Chapter 24

Along the way to the Underground Tunnel, Dillon manages to catch a Meowth he trains into a Persian while Aurora catches a Growlithe, and Granite gets a female Nidoran. Surprisingly, the tunnel was pretty empty, except for 2 or 3 trainers. There were no wild pokemon. Some girl wanted to trade a male Nidoran for a female one, but none of the travelers have a male Nidoran. Since it is now really late, the group has set up camp as soon as they got out of the Underground Tunnel.

"We're not far from Cerulean City now." Granite points out as he walks back from his pokenav call. Dillon nods in his sleeping bag.

"I'm so excited! I know Pachirisu and Venus will get me that Cascade Badge!" Aurora exclaims.

"She's not that easy to beat." Dillon says matter-of-factly.

"I know! But let me be confident, okay?" She says to the teenage boy. He groans and rolls over to sleep. As usual, Pika and Pachirisu cuddle with Aurora in her sleeping bag.

The next morning, thanks to Granite's pokenav, the group wakes up at 8AM. Granite makes them a quick meal while Dillon and Aurora pack up. They start heading towards Cerulean City at 10AM. With every hour, Dillon feels himself getting more and more nervous. "Was this a mistake?" He thinks to himself.

Before Dillon can continue with his self-doubt, he gets tackled to the ground. Pika flies off his shoulders but lands gracefully on the ground to see his trainer engaged in a heated fist fight.

"Fuck you, Dillon!" the auburn haired teen screams as he throws another punch. Dillon manages to block the punch and deliver one to the angry teen's jaw. Aurora, Granite, and Pachirisu watch the two brawl for a few moments before Aurora breaks out of her confused trance.

"We have to help!" She exclaims and rushes forward only to be held back by Granite.

"I'm bigger and stronger. And I know them both...kinda." he adds. "You make sure Pika doesn't kill Kaz." and with that, Granite runs over to the boys.

"Who's Kaz?" Aurora thinks to herself but then notices Pika sparking his cheeks. "No, Pika! You'll hurt Granite and Dillon!" She is relieved to see the electric mouse's cheeks stop sparking as he glares at the boy attacking his trainer. Aurora picks up Pika into her arms.

Kaz's POV

I had just beaten Aunt Misty yesterday with Tank and Gloom. It was nice staying with them rather than at the crowded Pokemon Center. Amy loves my pokemon. She's gonna be just like her dad someday. As I am thinking about how much fun I had with my aunt and cousin these past few days, I notice a group of trainers up ahead. It'd be awesome to battle them for some money and battle experience! When I get closer to the group, a young man and a teenage girl seem too deep in conversation to notice me, but then I see a teenage boy walking slowly behind them. He looks familiar…

Wait. That Pikachu. It has the notches on its tail...like the one dad had… My attention snaps back to the boy as we walk closer together, and my suspicions are confirmed when I see those diamond earrings. Anger overcomes me as I tackle him into a fight. "Fuck you, Dillon!" I yell.

If Granite hadn't stopped us, I doubt we would've stopped fighting until one of us was unconscious or dead. Granite is holding me back while a blue haired girl is holding Dillon back.

"Kaz! Calm down!" Granite yells at me. Fuck no!

"That asshole stole from my family! He stole from my dad! You're no better than Team Rocket!" I yell at Dillon. He glares back at me.

"Ima beat your ass, Oak!" He tries to free himself from the girl, but she is surprisingly strong.

"Dillon, stop!" she shouts, and he...stops? Whatever. Fuck him.

"You're in a gang and you steal pokemon! You might as well be a part of Team Rocket. Maybe then, your dad will give you attention!" yeah. I know. Low blow, but I'm pissed, and I can tell that it really irked him. He manages to slip past the girl as I break free from Granite and we start throwing punches again.

20 Minutes Later - No POV

Pika and Pachirisu had to thundershock the boys in order to get them to stop fighting. They had managed to calm down enough to sit far apart from each other and catch their breath. Kaz has a bloody nose and is currently holding tissue to it. It also seems like he will be having a black eye soon. Dillon has a busted lip and eyebrow, but he is currently holding tissue to his lip while glaring at his attacker.

Granite looks at Aurora, "Can you go to that river over there and fill this bottle up with water? We gotta clean them up." He asks her. She agrees and takes the bottle with Pachirisu. Once she is out of earshot, Granite glares at the two boys. "What are you guys doing?!" he snaps. The boys continue glaring at each other and Granite glaces back at Aurora to see she is still busy. "You better speak now before she comes back." he warns.

"Why do I care what she knows? She can learn all about how her traveling partner is a fucking thief!" Kaz yells. Luckily, Aurora and Pachirisu are far enough away to not hear it.

Granite shoots a look at Dillon. "Your secret. Not mine." he tells the quiet teen. Kaz give Granite a confused look. Dillon sighs.

"Fine." He continues glaring at Kaz. "She doesn't know who I am, and I plan to tell her on my own terms."

At this, Kaz smirks and laughs. "And why would I keep that secret for you? Now I've got to tell her!"

Dillon glares daggers at the teen and clenches his fists. Fortunately, Granite speaks up, "Kaz. That's not very nice, and I know you're not that type of person. Please don't."

"Oh. Like how I thought my own cousin wouldn't steal from family?!" snaps Kaz while glaring intensely at said cousin.

Dillon looks over at Aurora and sees her stand up from the river, like she's done filling up the water bottle. He knows he doesn't have much time left, so he turns his attention back to Kaz and takes a deep breath. "Look. I was borrowing Pika and then I was gonna return him after I caught enough pokemon!"

"All thieves say they're just borrowing things when they get caught." Kaz responds.

"I'll apologize to your dad after I apologize to my mom, okay? Just don't let Aurora find out who I am!" Dillon pleads. Kaz gives his cousin a final glare before looking down.

"Fine. You will apologize to my dad, and I will keep your secret." Kaz spits out the words. He then looks back up at Dillon right when Aurora walks back to the group. "But I want a pokemon battle."
