"Okay look behind you but don't be too obvious." Jeanine muttered.

Evelyn span her head around like a scene from the Exorcist, "Where?"

"Oh for fuck sakes Evelyn."

"What?!"

"I told you not to be obvious!"

"Oh yeah..."

"Jeanine! Is that you?" a blonde haired woman with dark roots approached them.

"Nice one Evelyn."

Jeanine plastered a fake smile on her lips, "Margot! How lovely to see you..."

"Who's Margot?" Evelyn whispered.

"Someone I didn't want you to meet." Jeanine hissed back.

"How have you been?"

Margot was everything Jeanine hated about women. Her died blonde hair, unrealistically thick red lips and toothy smile were indication enough and Evelyn immediately knew that Jeanine would kill her when they got home. She looked her up and down and saw that she was wearing a garish pink dress with a Gucci belt. She wondered how this could be seen as stylish.

"I'm okay." Jeanine managed.

"Great and who is this?"

Jeanine subtly nudged Evelyn in front of her, "This is my wife, Evelyn."

"Lovely to meet you Evelyn." her voice was sickeningly sweet and she cast Evelyn a glare.

Jeanine looked at her watch, "Well umm work soon! I must be off!" she grabbed Evelyn's arm and pulled her after her.

"Who was that?" Evelyn asked when they were out of earshot.

"I didn't want to tell you because I know you get jealous and anxious but she sort of hit on me about a year ago."

"WHAT?!"

"Okay Evelyn, calm down. She wasn't even interested in an actual relationship."

"How do you know that?"

"She was asking me to have a threesome with her and her husband."

"What why...?"

"Spice the relationship up?" Jeanine shrugged.

"Why you? You don't even like men..."

"She knows someone from Chicago."

"What? Who?"

"Just someone I slept with... look it really doesn't matter."

Evelyn sighed, "Jeanine you really should have told me."

Jeanine took her hands, "I know, I'm really sorry."

"It's okay, just don't do it again."

A man brushed past them but stopped when he saw Jeanine out of the corner of his eye.

"Shit." Jeanine murmured.

"Jeanine, how are you?"

Jeanine nervously laughed, "Hahah I'm fine, lovely weather we are having right?"

"Is that?" Evelyn whispered.

Jeanine gulped and nodded.

"Jesus christ." Evelyn muttered.

"Margot is just down there." he pointed at his wife.

"Yeah we just spoke to her." Jeanine awkwardly nodded.

"Well you seem awkward enough so I am going to leave now." he waved and left.

"At least he can take a hint." said Jeanine.

"Damn." Evelyn watched him walk away.

"Oh nice Evelyn! Real nice!"

"No! Not like that!"

Jeanine crossed her arms, "Are you sure?"

"Well I mean he is attractive..."

Jeanine glared.

"But not as attractive as you."

"Yeah nice try."

"I meant 'damn' in how the hell did she get him."

"Fair point." Jeanine agreed.

"Come on, we have that lunch with Phil." Evelyn put her arm around Jeanine's shoulder and guided her away.

"Yes do tell me why we agreed to this."

"Because he is your friend."

"Hmmm."

They walked to the local sandwich bar and spotted Phil as soon as they walked through the door.

"Hey!" he waved.

"Here we go." Jeanine muttered.

They sat and ordered.

"There is something I want to tell you guys." Phil began.

"Don't tell me you are getting married." Jeanine joked.

"I am actually."

Jeanine's mouth opened and then closed again, no sound coming out.

Evelyn's face was frozen in shock.

"Wow thanks guys, you could try and act a little less surprised."

"You're- you're. Nah, no way." Jeanine shook her head.

"I am."

"I-" Evelyn was at a complete loss for words.

"And Jeanine," he turned to her, "I want you to be my best man... well woman."

Jeanine burst out laughing but Philip's face remained serious, "Wait, really?!"

"Yes... I know I may be difficult to put up with but you have taught me so much and well I don't really have anyone else. Will you do it?"

"Phil I... of course I will. I would have thought your traditional values would have got in the way of a female best man though."

He shrugged, "If I really followed my traditional values, I wouldn't be friends with a lesbian in the first place and I would be pretty miserable for it."

Jeanine smiled, "I don't know what to say..."

Evelyn remained frozen in shock.

"Can I hug you?" Phil asked, aware of Jeanine's hatred of physical affection or any affection at all in all fairness.

Jeanine thought for a moment before standing and wrapping her arms around him.

Evelyn finally spoke, "That's beautiful Phil."

"You have grown so much." Jeanine laughed lightly when she pulled away.

"Thank you for giving me a reason to. You might not believe this but I googled what things were like in Chicago for you and I immediately wanted to change my ways. I want it to be better for you here because it should be. You're great Jeanine."

Jeanine almost cried, "Thank you."

They ate and spoke about his future wife and upcoming wedding.

"Can you believe that?!" Jeanine asked when they got back to their apartment.

Evelyn shook her head, "Never in a million years would I have expected that."

"Me neither, I'm proud of him."

"Me too."

They sat down and Jeanine rested her head on Evelyn's shoulder.

"I can't believe someone is going to marry him." Jeanine laughed.

Evelyn laughed, "Me neither... has he ever even mentioned a girlfriend?"

"He has mentioned his 'lady friend' a few times but none of us ever thought that it was that serious."

"Well it's nice to have a surprise."

"I hate surprises."

"I know."

"... but this was a nice one."

Evelyn smiled, "Yeah I'm happy for him and for you."
