Chapter twenty

"So how have you been feeling?" the doctor asked to Gabby as he finished filling the report for her medical file.

"I've been good. Resting a lot as you asked" Gabby answered with a smile.

"Am glad to hear that, and I am glad to see that you've been taking care of yourself and being healthy" the doctor said, checking some of her results. "You've been eating well, and drinking enough which is exactly what I wanted, and I am glad to say that your kidney function is back to normal! But it doesn't mean you can go back to your bad habits, and even more now that you want to add a baby to your family." He finished earning a nod from gabby.

The young woman was aware that a pregnancy was a delicate thing, and she needed to be absolutely healthy. She had lost a baby once, and she would never put anything on the line ever again, she would never lose another baby, she couldn't, and if she did it could kill her… And she needed to be healthy for herself, for her future baby, but also for her two boys at home.

Being a mother has always been her dream, and she became one, she became Louie's mother, and she would never put this in danger, and she was aware that a baby would be changing the dynamic of their family, but she needed to stay healthy, for the pregnancy to go okay, and for their baby to be healthy as well.

"Does that mean we can start trying for a baby?" she asked with a smile, really hoping for a positive answer.

"Well I don't see any reasons why you couldn't start trying and get pregnant in the near future. And obviously your medical file will be given to you OB/GYN to make sure we can control your kidney function, because with pregnancy everything can change pretty quickly, and become dangerous for you but also for your child, but yes, you can definitely get pregnant" Gabby's doctor replied getting from Gabby a huge smile, so excited for this news.

"And... what about work?" she asked then.

"You can go back! Just keep taking it easy for a bit"

"For sure! Thank you doctor, I appreciate everything you did for me!" Gabby exclaimed so happy! She couldn't wait to get back to work and announce it to her husband.

Gabby stood in front of the firehouse, just looking at the building, her hands in her pocket, feeling the cold March wind hit her face. She smiled seeing Brett and Kidd talking on the apparatus floor near the Ambulance.

It had been a while since the last time Gabby had been here, with everything going on with Deering and then with her health problem, she hadn't been here in a month or so, and she couldn't wait to actually get back.

She couldn't wait to get back, and just finally work again, with her friend and her husband. Who showed up on the apparatus floor as well, followed by Severide.

Gabby smiled when her eyes met Matt's blue ones. He looked surprised to see her just standing there, and ran to her.

"Hey baby!" he exclaimed with the biggest smile on his face. He got to her put a hand to her shoulder, bringing her closer to him, and kissing her lips lovingly. "What are you doing here? How long have you been standing there?" he asked after pulling away, keeping a smile on his face, really happy to see his beautiful wife here.

" I thought I would come by after my doctor appointment, just to see you and everybody, get out of the house for a while, Louie is with my mom " The woman said pulling Matt in another tender kiss, making the man smile in their kiss, surprised by her sudden need of tenderness.

"How did that go? The doctor's appointment?" he asked then, pulling his hand over her shoulders and rubbing them smoothly.

"Good, am cleared for work, my kidney function is back to normal... And I got the all clear" she replied with a small smirk, earning a gasp from her favorite man.

"All clear? For... all activities? » he whispered with a twinkle in his eyes.

"Hum hum" she answered back, as Matt smirked as well, ready to say something but was quickly interrupted by Severide.

"Hey Gabby, it's good to see you out of your pjs! » Severide teased, getting a roll of eyes from the brunette and a chuckle from Casey.

"Hey! Do not expose me okay?! I've been staying home for my health!" she said defending herself.

"You know I love your pjs, Kelly is just jealous, cause he wished he could have some as well" Matt joked back with a smirk. Gabby rolled her eyes, done with the two men who were making fun of her.

"Go to hell both of you!" Gabby said pushing against both their chests, walking toward the firehouse.

"Baby! We are just joking around!" Matt yelled back laughing as he ran after her followed by a laughing Kelly. He smacked her butt gaining a death glare from his girl. But she smiled anyways. "Am glad you came" Matt said then kissing her forehead, before opening the door for her to come in.

They walked in the common room as everybody greeted Gabby, so happy to see her. "How are you doing Gabby?" Herrmann asked taking the young lady in his arms and squeezing her tightly.

"I... I am very good, thanks Herrmann" She answered awkwardly trying not to get strangled by her friend.

"And how is your boy?" Herrmann asked pulling away a huge smile on his face.

"Which one?" she teased as Matt was standing a few feet away from them, making a coffee for himself and Gabby.

"Not the lieutenant, he has already been talking about you all morning long. He hasn't been here for even five hours and he is already bothering us!" Herrmann joked, as Casey glared at him, earning a laugh from Gabriela.

"You were asking for news Herrmann! And I just wanted you all to know how she was doing!" Matt shot back defending himself.

"Telling us that she's been walking butt naked in your house wasn't really something we needed to know!" Herrmann said out loud, making Gabby looked at her husband surprised by his statement.

"I didn't say that!" Matt shot back offended.

"What you should have said is that you're the one walking around butt naked!" Gabby played along with Herrmann as the older man smirked while Matt just shook his head, definitely ready to make his wife pay for that.

"She is lying!" Matt exclaimed pointing at his girl who smirked at him.

"Anyways! Our little man is doing very well, I'll bring him to the firehouse, he's been asking for it for a while" Gabby said changing the subject.

"It's great Dawson, you're such a great mother! You're doing so well, you deserve to be happy" Herrmann said patting her back gently, going back to sit next to Mouch on the couch.

"Thanks Herrmann" Gabby said looking at the man walking away.

She walked to the fridge, taking a yogurt, really hungry as she had not taken a breakfast this morning because of the blood work the doctor needed.

Matt walked to her, running his hands in her back and finally put his arms around her waist, resting his hands over her stomach. "Hungry are we?" He whispered in her ears, kissing the spot just under her ear.

"Definitely hungry yeah" she mumbled back, taking the yogurt and turning in Matt's arms, closing the fridge door with her feet. Matt smiled and pulled her in a tender kiss. "Matt baby, we are at work remember..." Gabby whispered at her husband.

"You're not working baby, you're just my wife" Matt whispered back kissing her lips once more, this time with a lot more want and need.

"Oh okay lover boy, let's keep this... PDA under control" Gabby said putting a finger on Matt's lips, and pulling back a bit more. "I do love you but there are a few people that do not need to see this" She said gently, looking down at the bulge forming in his pants.

"Are we talking about me kissing you?" He teased with a grin, his eyes full of sassiness.

"We are talking about what's happening in your pants!" She shot back, making her husband blush. He shifted on his feet, knowing he needed to be professional but also really happy to have his wife healthy and here with him.

"Okay I guess I'll just go in my office, get some paperwork done... Being away for so long implies lots of paperwork..." he mumbled, earning a sympathetic look from his girl.

"Get back to work baby" Gabby replied gently, running a hand in his back before letting him go.

Gabby walked to the table with her yogurt, sitting with Stella and Sylvie. "You know Dawson am so glad you're finally back, that means I can go back on truck with the boys" Stella said so happy to see Gabby, and glad that she was able to come back at the firehouse and get back to the ambulance with Brett.

"Am happy to come back, it's been too long" Gabby exclaimed taking some of her desert.

"How is Casey about you coming back?" Brett asked.

"Well I mean he knows am coming back, so I assume he is okay with it... Did he say something?" Dawson asked surprised.

Stella looked at Sylvie with a glare, preventing her friend from saying anything not wanting to get involved.

"What?!" Gabby asked again, not missing that her friends seemed off. "Girls? Come on what did he say?"

Brett cleared her throat, and rolled her eyes "He didn't say much, but he seems pretty worried about you, he looks like he'd like to keep you safe at home" Brett finally said earning a sigh from the brown woman.

"Overprotective husband once again" she mumbled, aware that Matt was worried about her, and even more since her health issues.

"He wants to make sure you stay healthy and-" Brett was quickly cut off by Gabby.

"He wants to make sure I get home every night... and I think he's been pretty worried ever since my little trip to the hospital, I think he's just overreacting" Gabby explained playing with her spoon, a smile on her face.

"What's that smile for?" Stella asked with a smirk.

"I just think it's really sweet of him to be so worried, and I kind of like the fact that he mentioned it to you guys"

"That guy loves you a lot" Stella said winking. "But, we got to go out, a girls night! Before you get back on shift next week what do you think?" Stella suggested, getting an excited nod from Brett.

"Oh I don't know girls..." Gabby responded.

"Come on Dawson! Just one night!" Brett insisted.

"Hey, I have a kid now, I can't just leave him to go out and drink" Gabby exclaimed.

"And this is why you got a very handsome husband, who is a very capable father and can take care of your boy for the night" Stella pushed, knowing Gabby didn't have much of an excuse now.

"I am a mother, it's my job to be home when my baby is going to bed, and I know Matt can deal with Louie, but-"

"But you can go out. Gabby, you're a super mom, and one hell of an amazing wife, you take such a good care of your boys, but you also deserve to take some time to yourself" Stella said, aware that it wasn't easy for Gabby to just leave Louie to go out and have fun, but she also knew her friend needed some time to have fun.

"I'll talk to Casey" she answered giving up. Both Brett and Kidd squealed excited. They were interrupted by the bell calling everybody to a fire. The girls quickly stood up and ran to the rig as Gabby yelled for them to be careful.

After the call, the team got back at the firehouse. Matt walked in the common room, surprised not to see his wife. He took a bottle of water and went to find her in his quarter.

He smiled when he saw her in his office, her back was to him, looking at some pictures that were standing on the wall.

Matt walked to the office, staying in the doorframe, and gently knocking on the office wall, his eyes focused on the woman he loved. "This office is for lieutenant only" he said, making Gabby to turned around and face her husband.

"Hey! You're back" she said gently, giving him a loving smile. "And I thought I was allowed here" she mumbled earning a grin from Matt.

"You're always welcome here baby" Matt said walking in and reducing the distance between them.

"How was the call?" Gabby asked then, pulling her hands around Matt's neck.

"Just fine, simple fire" Matt explained quickly, planting a small kiss to her lips. "I love you" he whispered then, cupping Gabby's face in his hands, admiring her beautiful eyes he loved so much.

"I love you too my love" Gabby answered. She gently pulled away, taking his hand and walking to the bed, sitting. "There is something we need to talk about baby" she said gently.

Matt smiled and nodded "of course, tell me" he whispered running a hand in Gabby's back.

"Are you worried about me going back to work?" She asked, seeing Matt's smile drop a bit.

"I know I should have said something, instead of you hearing it from your friends... It's just... With everything that happened, and your health issues, and us wanting to start for a baby... it's been pretty... stressful for me... and I would never ask you not to work, but I also want you to get home to Louie and I every night, and I feel like this job can be so dangerous... But I know it's not my decision to make... I just worry a bit" he finished hoping that Gabby wasn't mad or upset, that she would understand why he didn't say anything, but also because he knew he couldn't control everything she does.

"I understand your worries babe, and I appreciate your concern, but am not pregnant yet, the doctor gave me the all clear to get back to work, and am being careful, you don't need to worry about me" the woman said caressing Matt's cheek.

"You know I always worry about you" Matt said reminding both Gabby and himself about a fight they had a few years back when Gabby wanted to become a firefighter, which thinking back to it was a pretty dumb fight.

"I worry about you too, every time you come to shift I worry, but I also know that you'll always do everything you can to come back to me... I know that you could get hurt, or... worse... but-"

She was cut off by Matt who took her hands in his, squeezing them tightly "I'll always do everything I can to come back to you and Louie, and I'll always do what is right for my family, I promise you" he said gently giving her the most genuine smile. "And you know what? Once we have this baby on the way, I'll have three very good reasons to come home every night" he finished, earning a grin from his wife.

"It's going to be so great" she whispered leaning to kiss her lover. "God it feels so good" she said after pulling back so happy to have her Matt for herself.

"I can't wait to start trying" he whispered earning a grin from his wife.

"You and me both" she said back, "Oh the girls want me to go out with them one night this week, can you please help me, I want to stay home" She continued pleading with her puppy eyes.

"Babe, you don't want to go out? Have a night off? You're going to have some fun, that would be nice after the long time you've spent at home" Matt suggested knowing Gabby didn't really want to go out but he was ready to insist a little for her to enjoy some time for herself and her friends.

"It looks like you want to throw me out of the house" she mumbled seeing the light nod coming from her husband.

"I am! You need to have fun, and if you worry about Louie, remember that I am more than capable to take care of him!" Matt replied.

Gabby thought about it for a minute, just looking at Matt's face as he raised his eyebrows. "Fine you win, I'll go out…" She mumbled. Matt nodded excited for her answers.

"You're going to have fun sweetie. Just keep a night for me before going back to work!" he asked with a huge smirk.

"What do you have in mind?" she asked curious.

"Romantic night after we put Louie to bed" he suggested looking forward to spend some time with his beautiful woman.

"Oh I am looking forward to that!" she said before the bell went off calling all teams to another fire.

Matt made a face, disappointed he had to leave "Real never waits" he said kissing Gabby's cheek gently.

Gabby smiled remembering his quotes, she nodded before saying "Be careful baby" as Matt ran out of the office leaving her alone once again.

Matt walked in the dark apartment after shift. He wasn't surprised to see that neither Gabby or Louie were awake yet. His night had been pretty busy, and after another big fire, Boden had decided to send his people home, which was definitely welcomed.

Matt was glad he could come home sooner, this way he would have an entire day with his two favorites people. The man put his bag on the floor, and walked in direction of the master bedroom, gently pushing the door opened. His eyes fell on the most beautiful woman, still asleep in bed, cuddled in between the pillows. He gently leaned down and kissed her forehead before going to the bathroom to take a shower.

A few minutes later, Gabby stirred out of her sleep, surprised to hear the shower running in the room next door. She gently stood up and walked to the bathroom.

She could hear Matt humming in the shower, and she knew he had no idea she was here right now. So gently she got undressed leaving her pjs and panties on the floor before opening the shower's door.

Matt heard the door opened and turned around a smile appearing on his face, surprised to see his wife here and awake. "Good morning" he said gently, moving aside to give his girl some room in the shower.

"Hi handsome!" she replied smiling, giving Matt a gentle kiss.

"What are you doing here?" Matt asked, looking at his girl who got under the water letting her body relax.

"Just thought I could join you to start the day!" She explained running her hand over Matt's athletic chest and stomach.

"Am glad you join me" the blond man answered, really happy to be able to enjoy his girl.

"Wash my hair?" Gabby asked then. Matt nodded without hesitation and grabbed the shampoo. He applied some in his hand and started washing Gabby's curly hair.

It had been a while since the last time they had been intimate, and Matt had really taken to heart the fact that Gabby needed to slow down but now, he felt a bit relaxed knowing she was fine. And he was excited to get back to their "normal" intimacy, taking into consideration their son obviously. But right now, he knew Louie was asleep, and Gabby was in front of him, and to say he was willing to take her right now was an understatement, but he also wanted their love making to real be great, and not just a quickie.`

"You should let your hair curly more often" Matt said his hands still in her hair, trying not to think about any sexy time.

"You like it?" Gabby asked surprised. She rarely had curly hair, most of the time she strengthened them to be able to put it in a bun or ponytail to make it easier for work. But recently, she had been staying home, and not taking the best care of her look.

"Yes I do like it a lot, it's cute, I hope we'll have a baby with your curly hair" Matt said, putting a gentle kiss to Gabby's shoulder.

"And when are we trying for that amazing baby?" Gabby asked washing the shampoo off, Matt's eyes still focused on her beautiful body.

"Hopefully soon!" Matt said getting a smile from Gabby.

"And how about right now…" Gabby replied seductively, running her hands over Matt's body, and closing the distance between them, their body as close as possible. Matt smirked, and finally planted his lips to Gabby's in a languorous kiss.

"Isn't Louie going to make up?" Matt asked pulling away from her, knowing they might need to be a bit reasonable.

"Oh we've got some time" she answered back pushing him against the shower wall and getting down on her knees, the steam of the hot water making them disappear and enjoy some really needed alone time.
