Thank you so much for those who have fav and follow the story. I hope I could hear you in the review section. Love you all!
Loki paused in his tracks when he saw Kaysa in her mother's quarters without the spell that hid her. The two looked at one another long and hard until Loki broke the silence.
"I am looking for the Queen." He said hesitantly. "Has she been gone long?" Kaysa nodded as she covered her face slightly. It was a gesture that caught Loki's attention, and he began walking around the room, trying to find the right angle. No matter how hard he tried to watch her, Kaysa always avoided him. Loki thought perhaps it was not time to be together yet. Perhaps Kaysa needed more time. He headed for the door to get out and that was when he realized it was closed. He tried to open it again by narrowing his eyes, seeing that it was useless. A few spirals were seen faintly. Loki smiled as he understood the situation. Someone had cast a spell on the lock, blocking it out. It was a complicated spell that he was only able to perform if his mother helped him. His mother. That was clearly her doing but what Loki could not understand was why. His mother knew nothing about him and Kaysa. He shook his head. At the time, he did not care about his mother's motive. "I'll wait here then." Loki sat a few feet away from her, staring at her with an amused look. He had to seize the opportunity.
Kaysa looked at Loki a bit uncomfortably as she felt his eyes pinned to her every move. She stood up, hoping to find an impasse to avoid. She walked around the room, noting every detail as she thought about whether or not she should continue to wait for the Queen. Her mind seemed to be distracted by a papyrus hanging on the wall. Kaysa stopped in front of it, folding her arms and watching it at length.
"It was a gift for my mother." Loki's voice echoed from the chair where Kaysa had left him. Kaysa did not respond as she continued to watch the tapestry. It depicted a burly man holding a young woman in his arms with a terrified face. "From my stay on Midgard." The voice sounded closer, but Kaysa continued to ignore it. "Hades and Persephone." He whispered in her ear. Kaysa was startled and took a step forward, moving slightly away from him. "They are Gods."
"I know who they are," Kaysa replied without looking at Loki. "He kidnapped her. He took her and tied her to him for life against her will." Loki laughed and Kaysa turned to him. "Does that amuse you?" Kaysa asked in surprise. "Nonsense. I do not know why I am surprised." Her voice showed the disappointment she felt. Of course, Loki found the story of Hades and Persephone amusing. "You're just like him." She said as she walked away from him, but Loki held her back in time.
"I laugh at your story." Loki did not look at her. "You all think the same thing. A cruel and selfish story. A story where the reserved character is the dark and evil being." Kaysa pondered Loki's words at length. "But you never think that maybe he really loved her. Maybe he just wanted to spend eternity with her."
"And that's reason to kidnap her?"
"No." Loki laughed softly. "Of course not. But what could he do? Just show up to her? Hello, I am Hades, king of the underworld." Loki imitated the God. "Would you have agreed to go with him, Kaysa? Would you have agreed to meet the said dark being?" Loki did not wait for Kaysa's answer. "No. Of course not. No one wants to be with such a monster."
"You're wrong. He was never the saint you describe." Kaysa responded with a dry tone. "Everyone describes him as dark and cruel. They couldn't all be wrong."
"I guess when you're pigeonholed into a role, you end up believing it." Kaysa bit her lip as she thought about his words. She understood that Loki was not just talking. He was opening up to her. She waited no longer and turned quickly to him, holding him by the sleeves of his robe. Kaysa did not dare touch him anymore for fear that the Queen would enter and discover them.
"You are not the person you have been led to believe you are." Kaysa avoided looking at him. "You're a completely different being and deep down you know it." Loki grabbed her by the waist, trying to pull her towards him. "Loki, no." Kaysa objected.
"Are you still angry?" Loki snarled, pushing harder and managing to move Kaysa from her position. Loki lowered his head, leaning against her forehead. "Kaysa, no"
"I'm not angry anymore." Kaysa sighed, closing her eyes and trying to control the instinct that commanded her to throw him on the bed and kiss him as she had never done before.
"Then why did you walk away from me?" His voice sounded like a lament. Kaysa paused for a few moments trying to catch the right words.
"I just needed to get some distance. I could not go on as before. It was not good for me. I needed to see everything from another perspective." Kaysa felt as she spoke, Loki's hands tightening around her waist. "But it's all right. These days I've managed to rearrange my ideas."
"Rearrange your ideas?" Loki's eyes were searching desperately for Kaysa.
"Yes. I have understood my place here. As much as I hate it, as much as I fight it, nothing is going to change the fact that I am a mere maid here." Kaysa slowly walked away from Loki, looking at him for the first time since they were speaking. His green robe highlighted the pallor of his face and his black hair combed backwards sharpened his expression. A harsh expression that hid a slight pain.
"You are a Queen. My Queen." Loki did not move from his place. He did not even change his expression.
"We both know I lost my crown months ago. And you don't have to say nice things to me to win me over. You know I'll always be there for you." Kaysa and Loki looked at each other. He could not believe Kaysa had given up after all. There was still a small chance of her getting it all back, he was sure, but if she did give up there was nothing to do and nothing to fight for. She was looking forward to getting out of there. She did not trust that she would be able to resist him any longer, and that was causing her anxiety. She noticed how her breathing became more and more agitated and how her eyesight began to blur. She tried to find a foothold. Loki ran towards her, holding her in his arms. "Get me out of here," Kaysa said weakly.
Kaira ran through the Queen's gardens. She quickly hid behind a tree where she waited for the laughter. She peered back and caught her breath. No one was following her, which missed her completely. She could swear that she had been hearing Thor's laughter behind her until a moment ago. Kaira stepped out of her hiding place and began to look around as she grabbed her skirt from her dress.
"Gotcha." A voice whispered as strong hands grabbed her in flight and spun her around. Kaira could not help but laugh as she held tightly to Thor's hands.
"Put me down!" Kaira laughed. Thor did not keep her waiting and put her down gently while he put a lock of hair behind her ear. Kaira looked at him amused as she waited to catch him completely off guard. "Caught!" Kaira shouted again as she pushed Thor away. He grabbed her by the wrists and the two of them ended up in a lavender garden, rolling over each other as they laughed. The calm came after a few moments. Kaira lay face up with Thor on her, leaning on his elbow. "Your eyes," Kaira said after a moment of silence, pulling her hair from her face. "They're the same colour as the sky." She muttered as she continued to caress his face.
Thor replied with a big smile. He liked the new relationship with Kaira. It felt like the first time they met. Thor's smile began to fade as he thought about what it would be like if Odin had never thought of attacking the dark elves. Perhaps then he and Kaira could be together, and even be planning their own wedding. Thor was surprised to think of it. He had not considered marrying Kaira until that moment, but he found himself excited by the simple idea of sharing his life with her. His attention returned to the elf under him. He saw the tenderness with which she looked at him. He saw how fond she was of him. Thor could no longer contain his desire for her. He leaned in slowly, worried about her reaction, but when he saw that she was not moving, Thor dared to continue. He brushed his lips gently, playing with her, making her the one who would seek him out. It was something he had seen Loki do many times at parties and he always managed to get them to pounce on him. Thor wanted Kaira to make the decision. He did not want to force her if she really had no interest in him. Luckily for him, Kaira did want to kiss him. She stood up slightly, wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him towards her. Thor was relieved savouring Kaira's lips as he had done that time before everything went wrong.
Ada watched in the distance as Thor pursued Kaira. It was not fair for her to see him go after her. Playing hide-and-seek had been her idea and even Kaira had refused to play. Ada kept watching them and saw Thor pull her down the hill.
"I hope you break something," Ada mumbled as she walked closer to the hill. For a moment, Thor and Kaira had disappeared from her sight. Kaira's voice helped her find them. Ada leaned forward, getting a better view of those two. She felt her face flush with rage as she saw Thor look at Kaira as if nothing else existed in the world, and was even more enraged as she pressed her lips against him. She rose in rage and returned to the palace hoping that the elf would disappear forever.
Unlike what she believed, the walk to the palace only served to increase her hatred and rage.
"You!" Ada called one of the palace maids. Her smell of cookies immediately flooded Ada. "Come to my room now." Biscuit looked at her in confusion, nodding slowly and following her at a safe distance. When they reached the room Ada made sure to close the door tightly. "Fill the bathtub. We need to keep a low profile in case someone comes in." Biscuit did not open her mouth and started to obey while thinking about the lady's strange attitude. Ada undressed and got into the bathtub. "We need to speed up our plan, Enoeva. I can't keep risking that stupid elf to meddle and ruin everything." Ada threw her head back and let the maid clean her up. "Odin must bring my wedding forward by any means necessary and only then can we act as we planned. We will get our revenge sooner than we thought." Ada confessed and waited for the maid to respond. "You are very quiet," Ada commented, but Enoeva did not answer. "Speak up!"
"Forgive me. I've been very distracted lately." She answered distractedly.
The maid left the room after hours preening Ada. Her hasty step was directed towards the royal and guest rooms. Her image began to unravel behind a green halo and the image of Kaysa appeared in its place, ready to knock on her sister's door in search of a possible explanation for Ada's behaviour and attitude. She had decided to hide under the image of Biscuit, who she now knew had another name, simply because she could get out without being afraid to meet Loki. They had been arguing about having a doctor examine her, but Kaysa had flatly refused. She could not risk them discovering who she was, as she was certain it would not be long before Odin heard of her presence. Loki had agreed to drop the matter on the condition that Kaysa took the day off and rest. Kaysa returned to reality, ready to call, but stopped when she heard the laughter that was silenced on the other side. Kaysa smiled. It had been a long time since she had heard her sister's laughter. She prepared to turn around when she saw a man approaching in his guard clothing. Kaysa soon recognized him as Viggo. The first thing she did was acquire her maidenly appearance and waited at the door until he was close enough to distract him with a chance encounter.
"Oh, pardon my lord!" exclaimed Kaysa as she dropped in on Viggo. "You come to see lady Kaira? I regret to inform you that she is indisposed. Breakfast must not have suited her." Viggo's disgusted face confirmed that she had chosen the perfect excuse.
"You're the girl from the other day," Viggo said as he took Kaysa's face in one hand and watched her closely. Kaysa feared he was suspecting something, but his words left her cold. "I'm very sorry about what happened to your face. You caught me at a bad time." Kaysa stared at him as she remembered that day and how Loki found her and cared for her. "It would be a shame if this beautiful face was disfigured," Viggo muttered as one hand approached Kaysa and groped her lightly. Kaysa stood motionless, holding on to her desire to strike the man's face.
"You must excuse me, I have work to do." Kaysa finally said at a moment when she could not take it anymore. She slowly walked away as she tried to visualize her breathing to relax.
Loki came into his room by dropping himself against the door. He had taken Kaysa to her room and left her there. Loki had insisted on calling the doctor to check on her, but Kaysa had rejected the idea entirely on the grounds that it was merely fatigue. Loki's eyes settled on the bundle that lay in the middle of her room, hidden by a sheet. He slowly rose to his feet and walked toward it, pulling the sheet away in one motion, revealing a white dress suspended in midair by magic. He began to walk around it as he thought of the spell he had been seeking for weeks. A quick knock on his door caught his attention.
"Come in," Loki said as he hid the dress again. Thor appeared in his room with a look of both joy and sadness. "Is something wrong?" he asked without much interest. The relationship between the brothers had been strained since the day Loki saw Kaysa locked in a cell because of Thor.
"I just" Thor began to say. "I just need my brother." He said sitting on his bed. His blue eyes noticed the bump in the middle of the room. "What is that?" he asked as he reached out to find out, but Loki was quicker.
"What do you want, Thor?"
"I want Kaira." He ended up confessing after a long silence, covering his face in his hands. "I love her, brother." Loki noticed the alcohol in Thor's breath. He was sure Thor had been drinking too much. Loki looked at him as he felt rage and pride grow within him. At last, his brother was going to experience what it was like to be rejected by a woman, even though the problem was that it was not him who had gotten that woman.
"I am sorry to tell you that her fate is tied to another." He answered vaguely as he turned to tidy up his table and spell books a little. "You can't come between them without Father or the fiancé himself killing you." Loki laughed.
"If you could hide us from prying eyes..."
"But I can't, Thor," Loki replied in frustration. "It takes great strength to maintain such a spell, and believe me, I have no interest in being consumed by you. Least of all being tied to you all night." Loki knew that Kaysa was able to hide her appearance through the strength of Frigga as well as his and hers, but he was weaker of late. It was something Loki knew would happen sooner or later.
"I can't even hide our faces." Thor lamented. Loki felt his words twitching but suddenly something clicked in his head.
"Surely not?" Thor had found the clue that would allow Loki to take Kaysa to the dance without endangering her life.
