The Next Day.
"Come on Janie, if you dont hurry we will be late!" Angela yelled down the hall.
"I'm coming Ma." Jane replied walking out of her bedroom in full uniform. Angela's breath catches on her throat.
"Oh, Jane. Leave it to you to make a stuffy police uniform look gorgeous."
Jane blushed at her mothers compliment. "Aw Ma come on."
Angela choked back her tears. "I'm sorry Janie but I'm so proud of you."
"Thanks Ma, just please hold off on the tears will ya?" Jane said with a grin. Just as she was about to say something else her phone rang it was Frost. "Hang on Ma its Frost." Jane says holding up her finger to her mother as she answered.
"Hey Frost what's up?"
"Hey Jane I'm sorry I'm running late. I'm trying to make it back as quickly as I can." He says with disappointment in his voice.
"Frost it's okay take your time. If you can't make it for the graduation atleast you will make it to the party."
She waited for him to reply she could hear him sigh deeply. "I'm sorry Janie I'll be there as soon as I can but if I can't make it to your graduation just know that I'm proud of you and congratulations." He said with a smile.
"Thanks Frost means alot we will see you soon." Jane replied a little bummed but she understood that things happen. They hung up after saying there goodbyes. Tommy, Angela and herself headed off to the graduation. She was disappointed that Frankie couldn't make it due to being on call but she knew he wanted to be there.
A few hours later the ceremony came to end. Handshakes and hugs were passed around and pictures taken. Angela had Maura on video just like she promised. The three of them piled back into the car and headed home for the party on the way they passed and accident. Jane looked at the scene as they passed.
"Ma stop the car." Jane said urgently.
"What Jane I can't just stop." Angela said confused.
"Ma stop the god damn car!" Jane yelled. Angela pulled off the road and watched as her daughter frantically exited and ran across traffic to the scene.
As they passed the accident Jane noticed one of the vehicles, it was Frost car. She ran across traffic not thinking as she came up closer to the scene she was mortified by what she seen.
There, smashed in with glass thrown everywhere was Frost car, turned into a twisted pile of metal. As her eyes were fixed on the sight before she didn't notice Frankie running towards her until he grabbed her.
"Janie you shouldn't be here you need to leave." Frankie said drastically trying to move his sister.
"Where is he?" Jane asked in almost a whisper.
"What?" Frankie asked trying to hear her over the commotion going on around them.
"Where is Frost Frankie? Please...please tell me he's okay?" She begged as she held onto the only thing grounding her at the moment.
Frankie swallowed thickly trying to force down the lump in his throat. But before he could answer her he noticed her eyes following something behind him. When he turned to see what it was she was seeing Jane broke away and ran.
She ran as fast and as hard as she could towards the two men who were about to load up a stretcher with a body bag into the back of a coroner's van.
"Wait!" She yelled at them. "Wait! Please!" Both men looked at the woman who was quickly approaching.
"Can I see him?" She begged with tear filled eyes. The men looked at one another not sure what to do.
"Is the person in there a black male, 29 years of age?"
One man cleared his throat before responding. "Yes ma'am." He could tell by the emotions on the officers face that she may have known the now deceased.
"Please, I need to see him." Jane begged again. At this moment Frankie had made it to her side.
"Janie, don't do this to yourself." He pleaded. Jane pulled away angrily.
"I have to Frankie, he was rushing because of me! I told him not to but he knew how much I wanted him to be here tonight. I have to do this!"
Frankie sighed he knew he wouldn't be able to stop her. Frost was her bestfriend he just hoped that he, himself along with everyone else who loved Jane could pull her back from the inevitable dark path she was about to head down. With one final breath he nodded at the man standing on the other side if the stretcher.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" He asked. Jane at this moment couldn't find any words, all she could do was nod a simple yes.
The man slowly unzipped the bag until Jane was able to see his face. Her breath caught in her throat as the tears came crashing down. Her legs buckled and she fell to her knees not being able to hold the weight of the situation any longer. Frankie dropped down next to her as the sobs intensified.
"Janie I'm so so sorry." Frankie did his best to hold his own emotions in check to console his sister. The two men gave them a few minutes of privacy before returning. Jane watched as they zipped the black bag closed and her bestfriend loaded into a corner's.
"Come on Janie, there is nothing else that can be done. Let's get you home." Frankie helped his sister to her feet and back to the waiting Angela and Tommy that had been informed by another officer of the situation. Angela wrapped her arms tightly around her daughter and held tighy.
"I'm so sorry Janie." She said her own tears falling. "Come on my sweet girl lets get you home."
The ride back to Jane's apartment was a silent one. No one said a word as their own thoughts kept them from speaking. Once inside Angela helped Jane to her room to change.
She didn't have the energy to fight her mother on this so she accepted the help. They came out a few minutes later. Jane made her way to the couch sitting down she stared at the wall blankly.
"Jane sweetie can I get you something to drink?" Angela offered kneeling next to her distraught daughter. Jane didn't answer, just shook her head no.
"Can I do anything for you?"
Jane looked up at her mother with such sadness that Angela thought for sure that the brokenness and sadness that radiated from Jane's eye's just permanently broke her own heart.
Jane tried to speak but her mouth failed her.
Tommy and Frankie looked at each other and spoke without words. They both knew the only person that would be able to help Jane the most was thousands of miles away.
"Janie." Frankie said touching her shoulder. "Do you want me to call Maura?"
Jane's head shot up she didn't want to bother her girlfriend but she needed her so desperately. "I-I'll call her." She said wiping away a few stray tears.
Frankie handed Jane her cell and moved away to give her privacy.
Maura was sitting in her kitchen eating lunch when her phone rang. She knew by the ringtone that it was Jane.
"Hey Officer Rizzoli." She said with a smile that was quickly wiped away when she heard Jane sniffle.
"M-Maura" Jane tried to say more but broke down. Frankie quickly picked up the phone and tried to comfort his sister at the same time.
"Maura, its Frankie."
"Frankie, what's going on is Jane okay?" Maura asked already pacing her kitchen.
Frankie sighed he nodded to his mother to come next to Jane so he could speak with Maura.
"Frankie! Whats going on? Please is Jane okay?"
"Jane is fine but...theres been an accident.. She need's you Maura how soon can you come home?" He asked.
Maura was already at her laptop booking the earliest flight back to Boston. "Frankie I will be there first thing in the morning please tell Jane I love her and I will be there as soon as I can."
"Will do Maur. Thank you."
With that they said goodbye.
"Janie, Maura is flying back she will be here first thing in the morning." Frankie said placing her phone on the coffee table.
Jane looked up at everyone. "You guys don't have to stay." She said wiping away more tears.
"Janie ain't none of us leaving your side." Tommy said stepping forward, placing his hand on Jane's shoulder.
As Jane looked to her mother a sudden thought hit her.
"Oh God, Frankie Frost mother. I have to call her I have to tell her what's happened." With that Jane reached for her phone.
"Janie, hey whoa calm down." Frankie said taking her hands in his own. "I've already called, they are on their way I told them we would be here. They should be here soon."
Jane took a deep breath before looking around the room. This was her family that had quickly became Frost family as well. She knew they were all hurting over the event's that took place tonight but they were all there for her she wanted them all to know how grateful she was that they were there and how much she loved them.
She swallowed hard before speaking.
Thank you, all of you. I know this is hard on all of you as well. I just want you all to know I love you." She said before curling up with her head on her mother's lap.
"We love you too Janie, sleep sweetie we will be here when you wake." Angela said softly letting her tears fall, only wiping them away to brush a few strands of dark her out of Jane's face. Her heart was breaking for her daughter, she would do anything to take her pain away.
Jane closed her eyes, her bestfriend was gone...that was the final thought in her mind before exhaustion took over and pulled her into a fit full sleep.
