Chapter 29
She just sat there thinking... thinking on why she had to pack everything, why they have to stay there for days if it's just a few hours drive from Washington, and why was he so nervous about being noticed... she felt something strange she could not explain and deep inside she perfectly knew that no-one will check on her... yes she knew it, because she felt he was not telling her the truth...
...but at the same time she also knew, it was only for her sake, that he just wants to protect her from something... something she decided she doesn't want to know about, because everything could be over in a minute... so she decided she won't ask questions, just leave everything on him... she trusted him more than her own self and somehow felt, she just has to let things go and enjoy every moment with him...
As she was thinking on this, a soft knocking sounded on the door...
"Sarah," whispered Pete from outside. "It's me."
"Oh, finally... come on in," she smiled, carefully locking the door after him. "Everything went well?"
"Yes, of course. I found a very good place for the car and... wow, I must say you smartly packed everything away," he remarked kindly.
"Yes, actually I'm pretty good in packing." she added sweetly, what made him smile.
"I can see it... and it seems you're not so nervous as before."
"Yes, I really like the atmosphere of this place. It somehow calms me down."
"I'm glad to hear that..." his eyes were shining, then looked at the packages in his hands. "Uhm, can we put these things away? Maybe there's enough room in the closet..."
"Yes... you can put them into the corner," she said as she opened the closet's door. "This box has just food in it?"
"Are you hungry?" he said quickly, before she would ask something awkward.
"Not anymore, there was too much excitement for today and actually... we should go to bed soon. It was a long and tiring day and it's almost dawn."
"Sure, I just quickly check my messages, okay?"
"Of course," she nodded and started to make the bedding for them. "... Is there any news?" she asked after a while.
"No... maybe tomorrow." he answered absentmindedly, still standing at the balcony door. It seemed he just wanted to stay there for a while.
"Pete..." she whispered as she stepped over to him. "Is everything okay?"
"Yes, of course." he changed to a smile, but she could still felt he was nervous.
"Everything will be alright," she whispered and stroked his arm.
"Hey, that's my line..." he drew her closer and kissed her head lovingly. "You're the best thing in my life, you know that?"
"Are you sure?" she chuckled. "Just because you are hiding in a sanatorium and my husband wants to kill you. It's not a typical fairy tale if I may say so."
"Actually... it is," he smiled. "We have everything... a queen, a knight, and an evil... you know that."
"Yes, indeed." she chuckled as she was thinking a bit. "But then... where's our happy ending?"
"Our happy ending? Uhm, I think it's in progress... I mean I really hope so."
"Me too," she whispered. "And what if I think I'm already happy?" she asked with a smile.
"Really?"
"Yes, because I can be with you and that's all I need..." he lost himself in her smiling eyes for a moment, then kissed her fondly... kissing with him was more relaxing than ever and she finally felt he started to calm down also. As they went to bed, he was laying on his back, while she snuggled into his arms as always. He intended to spend the night with thinking, but her closeness completely changed his plan. Usually in a situation like this, he could not sleep at all, but her warm body against his with her sweet natural smell completely relaxed him... and he slowly fell asleep.
Her presence was so calming that Sarah was the first one who woke up next morning. She carefully climbed out of bed, then not caring about anything, she took a long hot shower and after she dressed up on tiptoe, she started to make breakfast for him... The food box has many things in it, prepackaged croissants, ham, cheese and lots of other things. When she finished with the sandwiches she put the kettle on what she found in the room and made a coffee for him...
"Gosh, what time is it?" murmured Pete, trying to regain his senses.
"It really doesn't matter," she smiled. "The point is that you finally could sleep a bit. Did you sleep well?"
"Yes, actually I was so in need of this... gosh, you made coffee for me?" he sat up.
"Uh-huh... and a little breakfast."
"You're so sweet," he stroked her arm as he handed the coffee with a smile. "It looks delicious..."
"Not only looks delicious... but you have to take a shower first."
"A shower? I'm still hiding if you can remember..." he teased her.
"Yes of course I can, but if anyone would come, your hiding place would be also the bathroom, so why don't you take a shower if you're there, hm?" she smiled victoriously.
"I think I can't say anything to this logic..." he teased her, "Wait, maybe I can. What a strict place is this... But seriously do you really think I need a shower? I mean do I smell bad?" he smiled.
"Gosh, no..." she chuckled. "I just wanted to say that until we're here you do not have to live without the basic things, so you can take a quick shower... nothing will happen during that time I promise," she added kindly.
"Oh... so you just try to comfort me, right?" he stroked her face with a smile.
"Uh-huh, I do it well?"
"...There's no word for that." he nodded and kissed her lovingly.
Pete spent quite a long time in the bathroom, because he took his phone with himself. On that website where he kept in touch with his father and Phil, he found a message from his friend, that the special police department was already on its way to their estate... They needed quite a few hours to find some clues, but in the end they found what they were looking for... so he quickly left a message to his dad and felt a little relief when he saw that his father read it. He perfectly knew his father was smart enough for a situation like this, but he still feared for him...
"Bad news?" she asked as he stepped out from the bathroom.
"Uhm..."
"I saw that you took in your phone with you."
"Oh, nothing concrete," he tried to pull himself together in front of her. "I just checked a few things, but everything is okay."
"Fine," she nodded, decided it's better to leave it on him. "Was it good?... I mean the shower, you feel better?"
"Yes, you were totally right. It was refreshing for my tired muscles." he said gratefully as he quickly put on his clothes.
"And now, here's your breakfast." she said kindly, sitting down on the bed next to him.
"Thanks... I really think I deserve it." he teased her.
"Absolutely," she chuckled. "No!.. it's all yours." she protested as he wanted to give her one of the croissants.
"Sarah, you can't do this. You need breakfast too," he started when she cut in,
"Of course, don't worry." she chuckled. "My breakfast is here... See?" and she took out the giant Nutella jar from the box.
"Ah... okay!" he sighed with a smile, "Then in this case, I think I didn't say a word..."
OOOOOOOO
A little later not too far away...
Vibrant red and blue lights were flashing on the streets, as half a dozen bulletproof cars stopped on the family estate,
"It's the police! Open the door!" heard Martin as an officer shouted from outside...
To be continued...
