I Annabeth

She lays in bed, watching her cell phone glow and vibrate.

It's probably work, she thinks. Oh well.

Bianca walks in and picks up the phone. She takes it out of the room but Annabeth can hear her talking.

"... No, it's a really bad time for her. We just learned that her fiancé passed away... No, she probably won't be back for a while. Alright, thank you. Good bye."

Annabeth stares into empty space. She closes her eyes.

It's not right. He's gone and the world just moves on. Don't they know that he's gone and he's never coming home?

"Annabeth," Bianca's voice pulls her out of her reverie. She opens her eyes. "Sweetie, I made some breakfast. You need to eat, it's been nearly two days."

Annabeth closes her eyes and ignores the invitation.

"Well, you've got to eat and if you won't do it for me or yourself, then do it for the baby. And you know damn well that Percy would agree with me."

The baby... oh god. I'm pregnant, how the hell am I going to have a baby and raise it all alone!? She's right though, Percy would want me to be healthy and safe.

She opens her eyes. "Okay,"

They walk to the kitchen together. "I talked to mom and dad. They're both going to be here for you. Mom is flying in on Friday."

Annabeth nods and stares at the plate of scrambled eggs.

They're bland, and under normal circumstances she would have put salt and pepper on them; But today the blandness seems appropriate.

"I need to call Sally." She finishes her food and goes to make the call.

"Hi Annabeth! How are you?"

Oh no, she sounds so happy.

"Hi Sally, I have... I have some bad news."

Silence.

"It's Percy, he was working in Russia and—"

She didn't think it was possible to cry any more, but she chokes back a sob and sniffles.

This is going to be the worst news she's ever heard. She's going to hate me.

"— He died. I'm so sorry."

Annabeth hears the phone drop to the ground. Unwilling to hear Percy's mom cry, she hangs up the phone.
