Chapter 27: Night Out

Nessie's POV

Jacob Jr. continued to nurse and I was happy just to watch him. It brought me peace during this chaotic time in our lives. Oh boy had it been chaotic. After what had happened yesterday when I'd gone hunting nobody knew what to do. One thing was certain though. I wasn't going out alone again any time soon. Not even to hunt. I was more then happy to stay close to my family at all times now.

I was terrified to think of what could've happened if my parents hadn't gotten there in time. The thought of losing my baby was to terrifying to even think about. I didn't care if I died as long as my son lived. I'd gladly give my life to save his if I ever needed to. He was the most important right now. If he died there was no way I could live with myself.

His cries is what snapped me out of my thoughts. He'd finished nursing but now he was thirsty. I was about to go get some freshly donated blood when my dad came in with a bottle already filled.

"I heard what he was thinking and thought I'd help," he said.

"Is that animal blood?" I sniffed as I took the bottle from him. It certainly smelled like animal blood.

My father smiled. "It seems that Jacob Jr. here understood your entire conversation with your sister yesterday. Even though he prefers the human blood he wants to drink animal blood instead because he knows it will make you happy,"

"He what?"

"He understands a lot. He's developing faster mentally then he is physically," dad explained. I looked down at the baby in my arms. He was reaching toward the bottle desperately. As soon as I'd put the nipple in his mouth he started drinking the blood without hesitation.

"Thanks dad," I said.

"You're welcome," he said. "I'll be right outside if you need anything else,"

"Thanks dad," I said again.

Then it was just us two again. I started thinking about what my father had said. Was my son really developing faster mentally then he was physically? Since my dad could read minds that would give him a lot of insight into what is going on inside my son's head. He was right. I was sure of that. But what would that mean for his future? Nobody could know since there's never been a baby quite like him before.

I was so lost in my thoughts that I was startled when I heard the door open. "Sorry Ness I didn't mean to scare you," Jacob said as he strolled in.

"You almost gave me a heart attack," I joked.

"I'm sorry. I just wanted to see how you two are doing,"

"We are doing just fine Jacob. You don't have to keep apologizing. I told you I know you didn't mean to attack us,"

"It doesn't stop me from feeling terrible about the whole thing," he said.

"We're doing fine Jacob. I'm feeling way better. I heal fast, remember?"

"Good. Because I wanted to ask you something,"

"Okay. Ask away?"

"Do you want to go out to dinner with me tonight? As a family. The three of us. I don't think we've gotten any alone time at all and I thought it would be kind of nice. Just the three of us,"

"Jacob don't you think it's a little dangerous for us to be by ourselves right now?" I shuddered when I remembered yesterday.

"Seth will be close by in case anything goes wrong. So will your parents. They'll be right outside to warn us in case something happens. Which isn't likely since we will be in a place full of humans,"

I thought about that for a moment. We wouldn't be totally alone and unprotected. The idea of doing something normal and fun as a family was very appealing. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to give it a try,"

"Okay you win,"

He had a huge grin on his face. "Good because I already made reservations for us at Tony's at 8pm tonight,"

"You really do think of everything don't you Jacob?"

"I try,"

I almost regretted agreeing to this when Alice decided to play dress up with me to find "the perfect outfit" for tonight. Against her and aunt Rose I didn't have a chance. No matter how hard I protested and told them I was fully capable of dressing myself they were having none of it.

"I know how you feel honey," mom said when I'd complained to her. "Even after all these years she is still the same way with me,"

"That's because you both have no sense of fashion," Alice interjected. "Somebody has to make you two look presentable. I'm still not done with you Nessie,"

"Aww man," I groaned. She dragged me back into her room. After many hours of pure torture she was finally done with me. She'd done and redone my hair so many times I was begging to think my hair would just fall off.

"Wow Ness you look beautiful," Jake said when he finally saw me right before it was time to leave.

"Thanks," I blushed and looked down at the black dress that I'd been dressed in.

"Your parents and Seth are in the car behind us,"

Jacob sounded nervous and I was sure it had nothing to do with my parents or Seth. I didn't know what he was nervous about but it was cute. It was busy when we got there but thanks to Jacob making reservations for us the wait wasn't too long.

"I kind of feel bad for my parents and Seth. They're just sitting out there waiting for us,"

"Oh Seth is not going to just sit out there and wait for us. That guy has just as big of an appetite as I do. As for Edward and Bella? Well they don't mind,"

Jr. started giggling as looked at everything around him. "He's so happy,"

"Of course he is," Jake said as if it were completely obvious. "I've seen in his head how he views the world. Everything is still so new to him. It makes him very curious about the world around him. I think the simplest way to put it is that he just loves being alive. He's only been here a few days and he's just so happy to be here. Happy to be alive,"

I could feel it deep down inside of me that Jacob was right. One look at my son's smiling face told me that he was right. He was just happy to be alive. That made me happy. No matter what happened I was now even more determined to make sure that he stayed alive at all costs. He would survive all of these threats we were facing. I would make sure of that.

"Looks like Seth just found his soulmate," Jacob said excitedly.

"What?"

"See that girl over there?" I looked in the direction Jacob was and spotted Seth with a teenage girl I'd never seen beforem "They just met in the waiting area. Seth imprinted on her. Since her date stood her up they decided to have dinner together,"

"Good for him. He deserves someone,"

"Oh look there's our waiter,"

I looked back and was surprised to see him bringing to glasses and champagne bottle.

"Champagne? Are we celebrating something?"

"Let's toast," he said suddenly very very nervous.

"To what?"

"Happiness," he answered.

"Okay,"

Our glasses clanked together. I started drinking and it tasted very good. I'd never had alcohol before but I liked it. When I finished I could see Jacob fiddling with something in his hands. A small box. Then he did something that I did not expect at all. He got down on one knee.

I was suddenly breathless and my heart was beating very fast.

"Renesmee Cullen. No words can express what you mean to me. From the very first day I met you have helped turned me into a better man. You have brought so much love and happiness into my life. More then I would've ever imagined was possible. I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you do me the extraordinary honor of becoming my wife?"

Tears clouded my vision so much that I could barely see. "Yes!" I shouted with happiness. He placed a ring on my finger that I instantly recognized. I'd seen my mother wearing it. It was the wedding ring that my grandfather, Edward Masen Sr. had given to my grandmother Elizabeth Masen. Then my father gave it to my mother. Now it seemed that it was mine.

Cheers and claps erupted all around us. Even Jacob Jr. was smiling and clapping. I wondered if he even understood what happened.

Jacob hugged me tight. For a moment I could forget everything bad that was happening.
