Here's the next chapter. Trying to Help: I added a little bit to the part about the furniture. The germ issue is taken care off in a way that works for both Max and Spence economically and disinfecting-wise. Thanks for your feedback. Hope you all enjoy this story! Please read AND review! Thanks!
Dr. Stuart suddenly broke into a big smile. "Kids, you're pregnant."
Max and Reid froze in disbelief.
"We're...We're what?" stammered Reid.
"I'm going to have a baby?" Max clarified.
Dr. Stuart chuckled. "Well that's another way of putting it."
The couple looked at each other for a moment before Max threw herself into her husband's arms, bursting into happy tears.
"I'm going to be a father!" exclaimed Reid, as tears ran down his face as well.
They stayed in that position, holding on to each other until the doctor cleared his throat. "Congratulations, you two."
Reid and Max broke out of their spell and wiped their eyes. Then Max turned her focus back to her doctor. "So how far along am I?"
"About eight weeks." she was informed.
Then Dr. Stuart proceeded to fill the expectant parents in on everything they needed to know.
About half an hour later, Max and Reid were discussing things on the way out to the car.
"So when should we tell people? I want to wait to tell my students but you're going to want to tell your old team and we should tell my family and your mom." Max mused.
"My mom probably already knows." Reid pointed out.
"Probably." Max agreed.
"But... let's go tell her anyway. We can tell your family at dinner tomorrow night." Reid decided.
Max nodded. "Good Idea. I want to tell them in person."
When they arrived at the nursing home, Diana immediately rushed over to the couple hugging them both tightly. "You two have made me the happiest woman on earth. I can't wait to be a grandma!"
Reid smirked and murmured to his wife, "See? I told you she'd know."
"You'll be a wonderful grandma, Diana. Our baby will be lucky to have you." Max assured the older woman.
"Thank you, sweetie, but I think I'll be the lucky one. I'll get to be a grandmother while I'm still in the condition to enjoy it." was the reply.
Reid and Max stayed for a little while before heading home. Reid called Garcia that night and asked if the team was on a case. They were, but Garcia promised to call him the moment they announced their return.
Reid turned to Max after hanging up. "I think I'll call Morgan tonight. He can't come tomorrow anyway and I don't want to wait to tell him till tomorrow night."
"Sounds good. Are we Skyping?" Max inquired.
Reid smirked. "Definitely. I want to see the look on his face when he finds out that the 'kid' is going to be a dad." Max giggled and got out her laptop.
"Hey Pretty Boy! Hi Max. How's it going?" Morgan spoke up when the connection was made.
"It's going great Morgan. In fact, it's better than great. Max and I have some news to share." Reid responded with a huge smile.
"Oh, man. Don't tell me my kid brother's gonna be a dad." Morgan shot back.
"Actually, that's exactly what I was going to tell you. How'd you guess?" Reid asked incredulously.
"Well you kinda gave it away there, bro. That grin says it all. And besides, the fact that you said that you AND Max had some news was a huge clue."
"Daddy! I wanna say hi to Uncle Spencer and Auntie Max!" a small voice spoke up.
"Aww. Hey Hank! How are you?" Max gushed.
"Hey buddy. Great to talk to you. I want to tell you something."
"What?" Hank inquired.
"Well, you are going to have a new little friend and god-brother to play with. Auntie Max and I are going to be a mommy and a daddy." Reid explained.
"You are?" the little boy replied in awe.
"That's right, sweetheart. In just a few months." Max informed him.
"That's awesome, you two. Savannah will be thrilled for you, too. She's at work right now but she'll be back in an hour."
"Tell her hi from us." Reid requested.
"Will do." Morgan promised. The friends talked for a bit more until Morgan had to sign off and get his son to bed. Reid was looking forward to telling the rest of his BAU family soon.
Garcia called the next morning to report that the team was on their way back. Reid and Max agreed to meet up at headquarters as soon as Max's last class was finished. They would head to her sister's place straight from there.
"So why did you want to be here when we got back?" Alvez questioned.
"And why did you get me and Krystal all the way over here?" put in Rossi.
"Well, I wanted to get you all together at once to share some news." Reid began.
"Well it must be major news for you to show up here and get Rossi back, too." Garcia observed.
"It is." Reid stated, pulling Max close before continuing, "Guys, Max and I went to the doctor yesterday because she hadn't been feeling well. The doctor ran some tests and made a discovery.
"Is everything ok?" Tara interrupted.
"It's nothing that won't clear up in about seven more months." Max informed the group.
It took a moment to make the connection but all of a sudden, Emily jumped up. "Oh my gosh! You're pregnant?!" Reid and Max nodded while grinning ear to ear. One by one, the team all came forward for hugs.
"I'm so happy for you, Spence! The boys will be so excited to have a new cousin to play with." JJ stated softly, before hugging Max.
"I can't wait to spoil this baby!" Garcia exclaimed.
"Um, Try not to overdo it, Penelope. We don't even know the gender yet." Reid tried to deter his friend.
"Ok. But a soon as you know a gender, I'm planning a baby shower to end all showers."
"Just go with it. It's best not to try too hard to stop her." Reid warned his wife.
"I've already figured that out." Max retorted. Soon it was time to leave for dinner. The couple hugged their friends and headed out.
Sammy was super excited about the new development. "I'm going to be a cousin? Cool! I'll take care of the baby sometimes. I'll teach it lots of stuff,t oo!"
"I'm counting on that, buddy." Max insisted.
"Congratulations, sis. I can't wait to be an aunt." Michelle told her sister, to which Eloise added, "Me either. I love him or her already."
"I'm going to have the cutest grandbaby on the planet." Max's father spoke up, hugging his daughter and son in-law.
"We can't wait for you all to meet our baby. You will be great with it." Reid assured the four.
After dinner and games with the family, Max and Reid returned to their house and called the rest of their friends.
A few days later, the couple was sitting on the couch discussing baby names. "Names are really important. They need to be special and unique to each child." Reid demanded.
"If we have a boy, I'd like the name Ronald in the name somehow. Rhonda was my mother's name. I want to carry on her legacy and my dad's name is Donald, so it fits for both." Max told her husband.
"I want to name a son after Gideon. He was the closest thing to a father I had for a long time. If it's a girl, I want to name it after my mother and JJ somehow. A boy I'd love to also name after Morgan if we can figure out how to combine the names." Reid responded.
Max shook her head with an amused smile. "Looks like we may have some things to work through with the naming. At least we still have several months to go."
"We'll figure it out when we need to." agreed Reid. They tabled the discussion for the time being and moved on to other things.
A couple of months later, It was time for the awaited appointment that would tell them the baby's gender. However, when the doctor did the ultrasound, Reid and Max got more information than they'd bargained for.
Doctor Stuart looked at the screen and then turned wide-eyed to his patient and her husband. "Um, ok you two. Get ready, because I'm about to give you the surprise of your lives."
So what could the surprise be? Is the baby ok? Tune in Wednesday to find out. Only one chapter left in this story. Thanks for reading. Catch ya later!
