This is late. I have two jobs and school starts this week. I had some personal crap going on this week.

Anyways enjoy!

"Dante we should talk about this before Vergil comes home with Rachel." Patty said as she sat at the desk and watched him shoot shots on the pool table. He had been ignoring the issue since it happened upstairs.

He was eerily silent again.

Patty found it unnerving.

Dante was trying to get his thoughts together. He had also drank three beers quickly when they had come downstairs.

"Dante." Patty called again and sighed in annoyance. "Dante!" She shouted.

"What?" He looked at her and a look passed in his eyes that she wasn't used to seeing, not at least directed at her.

"We need to talk about this." She said.

"I'm thinking." Dante said with a shrug and roll of his eyes.

"You better not be thinking about finding Rachel's stash of herbs and making me one of her brews." Patty snarled quietly.

He sighed and closed his eyes. Shoulders slumping. "You wouldn't even know." He opened his eyes and stared at her. "Rachel taught me everything she knows. I know I act dumb, but I know my shit."

She glared at him. "Don't you dare!"

"I know, but this life, my life…it's not safe." Dante said as he turned from her.

Patty stood up and walked to him. "You are so stubborn. Such an ass. Why did I even fall for a big dummy like you?" She huffed and wrapped her arms around his waist and pressed her cheek against back and held him. "Stupid. We'll be fine. You're not like your father. I'll take a test in a couple of weeks and then we'll know for sure."

"I was gone for six years with Vergil." Dante sighed and placed a hand on her head, "Devils just know…Vergil should've known back then but he didn't bother to check. It's this instantaneous feeling in my gut that tells me you are with child. This life isn't meant for children."

"Yeah…well, don't call out the elephant in the room. Your job, my job, is dangerous. I can stay in the office."

"Office is no place for a baby." He added. "Especially this one."

She let go of him and walked around him. She crossed her arms and stared up at him. "What, are we going to do, look for a little cottage too?"

Dante looked at her and then away and sighed. "No, I hate the country."

"You grew up in the countryside. Rachel told me things about your childhood you know. Nero and I were curious about you and Vergil." Patty said as an explanation as his lips turned down. "You just have bad memories. I think it's quite impressive that Vergil is willing and strong enough to go to the countryside."

"Are you trying to annoy me?" Dante asked and glared down at her. But his eyes weren't overly angry.

"Maybe we should just take things, one thing at a time." Patty smiled up at him hopefully. "Like our relationship."

"I've never had a relationship." Dante admitted.

Patty blinked at him. "What? You're fifty and you never had a relationship?"

"Everything was just about sex." Dante set down the pool cue and crossed his arms.

Patty then realized how much of a difference between them there was. For her, she had waited for him because she believed he was the only one she could ever love. Meanwhile, he had sex, sex, and more sex. "Oh." She said softly and looked at the floor.

"Did you ever have a relationship? Dates? Anything?" Dante asked, almost like he hoping for a lifeline.

Patty lifted her gaze and laughed nervously. "I tried to go on a couple of dates in junior high. Then at Lady's insistence tried online dating just to practice skills in confidence and flirting." She blushed. "Sure, I've read a lot of romance novels and watched shows but no real relationship. But you were the only one I wanted."

"Well…we suck." Dante huffed.

Patty sighed and her shoulders slumped. "Our only role models are Nero and Kyrie. They are the only normal couple."

"Rachel and Vergil don't count? Lady and Nico?" Dante asked with a teasing smile.

Patty laughed. "Rachel and Vergil spent decades apart. That can't be considered a normal relationship."

Dante snorted, "A half-demon and a half-eudaemon could never have a normal relationship."

Patty nodded. "And Lady and Nico…well we have to factor in Trish. That is definitely and truly not a normal relationship."

"The kid is our only hope." Dante sighed heavily and grabbed a cue ball and tossed it in his hand and caught it.

"But he and Kyrie have been together for a long time now. Their relationship is strong even when they had the miscarriage two …years…a…go." Patty slowed down her words at the end and winced as Dante's eyes widened at her.

"They had a miscarriage. How come neither one of them ever said anything?" Dante asked her with a growl.

"Well it was early on in the pregnancy, Rachel had been on a mission in France at the time, she was gone for a couple months with Lady, she felt awful as she helped Kyrie through the first pregnancy. Nero and Kyrie don't like to talk about it."

"But I'm his uncle!" Dante huffed.

"I don't think Vergil knows." Patty said quietly. "Nero's going to be pissed that you know."

"Well shit." Dante scratched the back of his head.

"You have to pretend you know nothing." Patty pointed her finger up at him.

"But they seem so happy." Dante huffed.

"It's because they work on their relationship. We should talk to Kyrie. She'll be more discreet and won't be patronizing to us." Patty said and Dante nodded.

"I definitely will not make you terminate a baby now. Nero would actually kill me." Dante said softly.

"We'll ask Kyrie how they manage Nero's lifestyle with their family life. One step at a time. Promise me, Dante, that'll you give us a shot." Patty cupped his face and leaned up and kissed him slowly.

He wrapped his arms around her. "I promise to do my best. If I act up, tell Rachel. She'll knock some sense into me without shoving a blade into my chest or firing a bullet into my head."

Patty laughed lightly. "You mean you don't want Lady to know? Or Nero?"

"Rachel knows me best. Trust her." Dante kissed the top of Patty's head. "Come on, I'm hungry. We'll grab a bite to eat."

"No way! I'm making food! We have to eat healthy and be good role models." Patty crossed her arms and walked to the kitchen.

"What?! We don't even know if there is a baby in there!" Dante complained as she disappeared.

"Are you really going to let me slave away in the kitchen and not join me?!" She shouted at him.

"Fuck." Was Dante's only response before he joined her in the kitchen.

Of course this will not be easy for Dante. I hope you enjoyed the story so far. Let me know what you think.

I plan to update in two weeks.
