Interruption soon became a running joke in the young couple's relationship. It seemed like something was just dead set on them not having intimate moments with one another.
When they tried another hot bath again for instance, Rumi interrupted them by barging in with take-out.
Then ruined the mood further by laughing at Keigo's boxers, which Airi couldn't resist laughing either because until then she hadn't noticed the fact that he had Endeavor flame boxers.
The next time was ruined by a call for Hawks, and three more times after that.
Then Kyo interrupted when they barely walked in the door, neither knowing that Kyo was even home. They thought he was on a date, so they thought the flat would be empty.
Keigo flew her out of there fast when they realized that he was in fact on a date, just in the middle of her shared flat with Kyo.
So much for them using the flat for a date spot.
After that, Keigo became hopelessly frustrated. Airi felt bad because he's been getting it from both ends. From work and now home.
Airi pulled some strings, having Taiki work as a way between her and the commission. She requested a week off for Keigo from his hero duties.
The commission wouldn't budge on it until Deku stepped in for her.
Airi was so happy to have a friend like him.
Deku took Hawks' hero duties for the week, he told her it was fine as his own agency had been light on work recently. He also promised to enlist Shoto, since he knew she wouldn't be doing her training either.
Airi had different plans. In the form of a planned vacation for the overworked and frustrated bird man. Taiki really helped her come up with it when he told her Hawks had never taken a vacation in all the years since he opened his agency.
It was perfect. She could make it a romantic vacation for him. Plus, with the holidays around the corner, it could also work as an early gift for him. Even though she already bought a few things for him and hid them at her flat.
"Babe?" Airi shoved the tickets back into her duffel bag, kicking the bag back under the bed just as Keigo walked in. "Hey…" Keigo walked up and kissed her on the cheek, finally home from work for the day.
"How was work?" Airi asked, standing to hug him now that he's home.
"Frustrating." Keigo answered with a sigh ending his words, turning around to go change.
Yeah, he needs the vacation. Work can wait for Hawks to recharge his batteries for a little bit.
Getting Hawks on the vacation would be the fun part.
Airi enlisted Rumi and Kyo on the request that they could join. She only swore them to leave her and Keigo alone after they were all there. They agreed with giddy smiles.
Now, in the months since signing the contract with the commission, they've been paying her as well. Originally, she told Keigo she didn't need it, but he kept saving her checks from them until after they were together, and he handed them off to her.
He told her to take whatever they offered; it might help her out in the future. Airi reluctantly went along with it, not opposed to sticking it to the people who made a puppet of her handsome hero boyfriend.
So, she used their money to fund Keigo's much needed vacation.
Airi told Rumi to bring Keigo, and she and Kyo were going on ahead. Any means necessary, get him to where he needed to be.
Which was Mt. Fuji, across Japan from where they lived.
Airi didn't give her specific ideas, but she grew worried when her phone started going off consistently during the train ride with Kyo.
The fact that Rumi texted her telling her not to answer was worrisome, but she trusted Rumi.
Maybe trusting her with Keigo wasn't wise though…
"Thank you so much, Midoriya!" Airi thanked him as she video called him while Kyo slept in his seat next to her.
"You're welcome! Just enjoy yourselves, you could use the break! I'll be sure to let you know if we find anything about that villain for you, as well." Midoriya assured her with his usual big grin.
"I'll make sure to grab you, Uraraka and Shoto souvenirs too." Airi offered, hoping he would enjoy that.
Her hopes were answered when his face immediately lit up. "Thank you, Kubo-san!" Midoriya immediately thanked her, grinning wider if it were possible.
"Make sure he relaxes with you, Kubo-san! He should really enjoy Mt. Fuji, it's beautiful there!" Uraraka chimed, suddenly appearing behind Midoriya's shoulder.
After hanging up with them, she was surprised to see she had over twelve missed calls from her unofficial boyfriend.
Oh, why do they keep doing that? By this point, they're dating and that's that. No unofficial/official stuff. He's hers through and through, and she's his.
By the time they arrived at their hotel in Five Lakes, that twelve more than doubled. Airi finally had enough and called Rumi to see what she had done.
The call didn't last long as all she heard was wind rushing, assuming Hawks was flying with Mirko in tow.
Kyo snickered next to her as she rolled her eyes at whatever Rumi had done.
Doesn't seem like it's off to a good start for his vacation…
Airi and Kyo had gotten all settled in with time to order room service when Rumi called her back. "We're here!" Rumi shouted, breathless and sounding tired.
"What happened?"
"We flew the whole way." With that Rumi hung up.
Airi found out when her and Kyo walked down to Lake Kawaguchiko and was promptly encaged in the wings of her boyfriend what Rumi had done.
"Why would you tell him that?!" Airi questioned, almost as angry as Keigo was himself as he stood behind her with his chin on her shoulder.
"He wouldn't leave otherwise!" Rumi threw her hands in the air, looking like she'd seen better days from how disheveled she was from the flight.
Kyo was laughing nearby, on the ground in tears at what Rumi had done and the consequences she faced.
"Dove, you could have just asked me. I would have met you guys here." Keigo muttered against her shoulder, still refusing to let go of her after he was led to believe she needed his help all the way across the country.
"I'm sorry she did that, pretty bird." Airi apologized for Rumi's actions, reaching up to stroke a hand across his cheek.
"Can we go to the hotel now?" Rumi asked, still not apologizing herself.
Keigo wasn't happy when he first arrived, but Airi was happy to see he was enjoying himself now.
With the food from room service all gone, Keigo was stretched out on his stomach on their shared bed. Kyo took Rumi to go explore the area, leaving the two of them alone.
"Feeling good now?" Airi asked, kneeling next to him on the bed and massaging his wings that had to fly him all the way there.
"Very. Next time, just tell me we're going on a vacation, babe." Keigo answered, Airi laying down and kissing his shoulder.
"I'm sorry, Kei. But I'm happy to know you'll agree for next time." Airi whispered, immediately being met with his arm wrapping around her.
"So, what have you planned for us then?" Keigo asked, stretching his wings out with a satisfied groan.
"I haven't planned much of the trip. We have a week, so I wanted you to tell me what you want to do. It's your vacation, pretty bird." Airi reminded him, peppering his arm with kisses that earned his soft laughter.
"Anything I want?" Keigo asked, raising an eyebrow with a devious grin.
Airi knew that look.
Before she knew it, Keigo had her on her back, standing at the edge of the bed with his lips leaving a trail of kisses across her collarbone.
"Kei…" Airi whined softly as he took her hips into his hands and pulled her closer, biting gently on the soft skin of her collar and sucking.
"Are we safe? We're not going to be interrupted this time, right?" Keigo asked, leaning up and kissing her when she laughed at him.
"I think you're safe to finally let out all your frustration, pretty big bird." Airi purred, grabbing him by the collar of his shirt when he leaned back to smirk down at her.
"Finally." Keigo sighed, letting Airi have her chance at marking his own neck with love bites.
Airi had barely sat up to undo his belt when some divine being from above reminded them of their luck.
"Ai! Hawks!"
Keigo immediately deflated, dropping to his knees on the carpet with a frustrated groan.
Airi sighed, standing up to go yell at Kyo for having just interrupted them yet again.
Airi barely grabbed Kyo by the collar of his shirt before tossing him out of the suite, tossing the do not disturb sign on the door before locking it behind her.
Going back to the master suite where she left Keigo, she was surprised to find him gone. "Keigo?" Airi back tracked, looking through the whole suite, only to find the balcony door open.
Did he just take off without telling her?!
Airi didn't have to wait long, because he flew back in the balcony door a few minutes later. "Where did you go?" Airi asked, watching him drop off some bags in the living room.
"Let them back in if they want. Come on, I'm not getting interrupted again when all I want is to be alone with my girlfriend for a little bit." Keigo held his arms open for her to come to him so he could fly them.
Airi sighed, her own frustrations nearing their peak over how they couldn't be alone with everything going on around them.
Keigo dropped his arms to his side, sighing before walking over to the couch.
"Babe, I'm sorry. I just… I just wanted us to have a little us time. Every time we try, we get interrupted. It's frustrating." Keigo admitted, leaning his head back on the back of the couch.
Airi walked over and sat next to him, pulling her legs up under her as Keigo folded his wings out of her way. "Keigo, I've planned this trip with the intent of us having some alone time. Those two were supposed to leave us alone unless we went to find them. I'm sorry, I've been trying." Airi admitted, disappointed that even across the country they couldn't have their time.
Airi leaned into the man next to her when his arm wrapped around her. "Hey, don't feel down. You planned all of this; this is amazing. I'm so grateful and lucky to have you in my life." Keigo cooed, rubbing her thigh soothingly with his other hand.
"Kei, I don't… I don't want you to feel like I don't want to or- "
Keigo silenced her worries with a kiss.
"Trust me, dove, I know you want me." Keigo purred softly, nudging her nose with his own as her heart fluttered from his actions. "You brought us all the way to Mt. Fuji as proof that you want me. I just wanted show you at my trademark top speed." Keigo joked lightly, Airi giggling at his cheeky wink.
"Oh hush, you pervy bird." Airi swatted him playfully on the arm.
"Do you wanna go out, my love? We can try again another time. We've got a week here, let's enjoy ourselves." Keigo offered, standing up and pulling her to her feet with him.
"Alright, pretty bird. I like your idea." Airi agreed, so happy to have a man like him.
"Why're we climbing if we have two people who can fly us up the mountain?" Kyo asked, trudging at the back of the line with a miserable frown.
"Because the point is to climb, no cheating." Airi corrected Kyo's laziness, heading the pack with Keigo's hand on her hip as he walked beside her.
"Besides, it's our turn to pick since you and Rumi picked yesterday." Keigo reminded, flexing his wings and catching the two in the face nearly. Airi knew he was aiming for it, that cheeky bird.
"Wow you're really that mad about being blocked by Kyo that you're going to make us hike up a snowy volcano?" Rumi teased regardless, not caring that they were hiking. This was nothing for the Rabbit Hero.
"Not mad." Keigo said simply, but that only made Rumi laugh.
"Just go behind a tree, it wouldn't be your first time in public."
Airi pulled ahead, not caring for the conversation as she walked faster.
"Thanks, thanks for that Rumi." Airi was once more flanked by the man who sarcastically growled at the rabbit hero. "Ai?"
"I'm fine, pretty bird. I'm just ignoring it." Airi alerted him, flashing him a smile that dissipated his worries.
"How's about at the top of a mountain?" Keigo offered cheekily, dodging when Airi tried to swat his arm and instead swatting her with his wing.
"Oh, you cheeky chicken." Airi went running when those words left her lips, knowing his distaste for being called chicken would make him want to chase her down.
"Get back here!"
Neither Airi nor Keigo paid any mind to the third wheels that were slowly walking after them.
It was a nice day hiking up the mountain. Lots of laughter, whining from the lazy Kyo, and chatter. It was nice to get out and do something normal people do.
They didn't make it all the way up the mountain, instead making it about three quarters of the way before turning around because everyone was hungry and wanted to go have lunch instead of finish.
On their way back down though, they were having a nice chat about the hot springs down by their hotel when they heard a shout.
All four turned in time to see someone go tumbling down past them, rolling down the path towards the edge that dropped into a steeper cliff.
Other climbers shouted in fear for the man, but a flash of red stopped him just as he reached the edge.
Hawks picked the man up by the shoulders, moving up away from the cliff before flying him back towards a group of panicked hikers. "Hey, you okay there? Do you need help getting back down the mountain?" Hawks asked the man as he set him down in front of his friends.
"M-my leg… I-I think I twisted it."
"You'll be okay, here I'll help you get back down." Hawks picked him back up before turning to the three of them. "I'll catch up to you guys. Ready to go?" Hawks asked the man with his usual charismatic smile.
With that, he was flying off to take the man to medical attention, leaving the three friends for a while.
Rumi chuckled as they began walking again. "That man doesn't know the meaning of vacation." Rumi mused, Airi and Kyo laughing as well.
"Do you though? If you had a chance to save someone, you wouldn't hesitate." Kyo reminded her, which earned a playful shove from the Rabbit Hero.
Airi was left to her own thoughts as the two mocked and teased one another.
That's the first time in a while that she's seen Hawks perform a rescue. Her heart swelled with pride and adoration for the hero, over how he didn't miss a beat to save the person before they tumbled further down the mountain.
Keigo found them an hour later, landing next to them with his carefree smile back once more. "How's the civ?" Rumi asked, high-fiving Keigo for the rescue.
"He'll be fine. Just a twist, he'll be climbing again soon." Keigo said with a shrug, completely oblivious to his girlfriend who was walking right by his side squeezing his hand in her own.
Airi playfully bumped his hip, which earned her a bump back. "What a hero you are, pretty bird." Airi praised him quietly, stealing a kiss from him when he turned to her.
Keigo grinned widely at the praise and kiss, stealing one back before their hike back down continued.
When they got to the bottom, Rumi and Kyo were talking about restaurants to go to for dinner when Airi grabbed the big bird by a wing and started pulling him off.
"Woah, where are we going, lovebird?" Keigo asked, stumbling after her until she let go of the wing.
Airi lead him back in the direction of the hotel, and he took the hint before swooping her up in his arms and flying off. Leaving their two friends to go get food without them.
They didn't end up making it inside their hotel room, instead Keigo touched down on the roof of the hotel before laying her down. "Are you sure?" Keigo asked, obviously excited by the way his wings kept twitching and puffing up.
"Are you going to keep waiting, or show me how much I ruffle your feathers?" Airi asked, kissing the tip of his nose softly.
Keigo didn't need any more confirmation than that.
Airi pressed open mouthed kisses along Keigo's jaw and neck, the hero atop her humming in pleasure to her ministrations.
"I love you." Keigo reminded her for the umpteenth time today alone.
"I love you too." Airi reminded him back, kissing his nose again. She sighed as Keigo continued his own soothing touches, fingertips ghosting over her warm skin and massaging the spots that he marked up with his mouth.
"That was worth the wait." Keigo hummed, pushing himself up off her and leaning down to kiss her.
"Oh, yeah? Here I thought you'd wanna go again."
"Are you offering?"
Airi laughed at him, Keigo joining her as he nuzzled the column of her neck and started kissing her as well.
"Come on, don't want you catching a cold." Keigo said as he got to his knees, pulling her up with him.
Once redressed, Airi pulled out her phone to check the time. Only to find a few missed calls from the two they left closer to the mountain. "They tried calling us." Airi revealed, Keigo picking her up in his arms and stretching his wings out for take-off.
"Call them back from the room." Keigo advised before he lifted off, flying them down to their suite's balcony to get inside.
"Well, nice of you two to join us." Rumi greeted them as soon as they walked in, sitting in the living room with Kyo and a ton of room service. "You two have fun?"
Airi pulled the collar of her coat higher to hide her neck, while Keigo just grinned smugly beside her.
"In the future, tell us you're going off for couple time instead of disappearing." Kyo said before taking a big chug of his sake.
"Hey, at least they weren't interrupted this time! Good for you two!" Rumi congratulated them while clapping, both Airi and Keigo blushing at her congratulations.
Some friends they have there.
The rest of the night went calmly, the four hanging back in the suite after the day of hiking up the mountain. Eating lots of room service and playing some party games.
After midnight, Airi called it quits and slipped away to the bedroom. Closely followed by Keigo, who ignored the hoots and encouragement from their two friends before closing the door on them.
Changing into her pajamas, Airi laid down first. Keigo followed next, sliding in behind her and wrapping his arm around her like they always slept.
"Thank you, for all of this. It's nice to relax, after never having had a vacation before." Keigo murmured against her shoulder, rubbing the scruff of his chin against her bare skin.
"Says the Number Two that rescued someone just earlier today." Airi teased lightly, squeezing his hand that laid over her waist.
"Hero work never ends, babe. Besides, it got you and I to finally finish what we've been trying to start for almost two months." Keigo remarked cheekily, chuckling against her shoulder when she bumped her hips back into him.
"Okay, pretty bird. Let's see you go another few months without then." Airi warned teasingly, Keigo immediately pulling her tighter to him with a playful whine against her shoulder.
"That would be mean, though." Keigo pointed out, Airi rolling onto her back to look over at the man beside her. "You don't want to be mean to me, right?" Keigo asked, crawling over her and laying between her legs with a devious glint in his golden gaze.
Airi let him slip his arms under her, his chin coming to rest in the space between her ribs. The content sigh he let out at their cuddling made her forget the teasing, running her fingers through his permanently messy hair.
"Kei?"
"Hmm?"
"Can I ask you a… I know it's probably a stupid question, but can I ask?" Airi asked, genuinely unsure if she really wanted to know his answer.
Keigo opened his eyes, looking up at her before moving off her and spooning her again. "I'm all ears for you, dove." Keigo whispered against her shoulder soothingly.
"Was it fine for you? There wasn't anything amiss or… I don't know just- "
"Are you asking because of Rumi?" Why does he have to know her so well? "It was a lot better than anything I ever did with her, trust me, my love." Keigo promised, sitting up to look her in the eye. "With her, it was just sex. Our literal goal was just to finish. With you, it's not just that. It's making love to the woman I love. It's…" Keigo trailed off, rubbing his scruff in thought.
"About sharing a closer intimacy with one another?" Airi offered to him because that was what she wanted. She wanted to feel closer to Keigo, to show him she wanted all of him. Including that level of intimacy.
"Yes. I mean, I'll admit, I'm a horny guy every so often. As you've seen. But it's mainly because I want that emotional connection that comes with it. I want to be the one that makes you happy and feel good and I got to do that today. That's why I've been so frustrated too, because I felt like I wasn't satisfying you enough in the relationship." Keigo admitted, Airi sitting up as she didn't know he felt that way.
"Keigo, of course I'm satisfied with our relationship. I've been worried about you for the same reason. I felt like you might be missing certain things I hadn't provided. I wanted to feel close with you, closer than we've been till today, but I also just want you to be happy." Airi admitted in turn, Keigo cracking a half smile towards her.
"We're both gonna have to work a bit harder on communicating, aren't we?" Keigo asked jokingly, Airi laughing along with him before leaning her head on his shoulder.
"I love you, Keigo. I'm happy that we can communicate our needs with one another, and that we're both willing to step out of our comfort zones for each other." Airi mused with a happy smile up at him.
"I love you too, Dovie." Keigo returned, leaning down to kiss her gently.
They laid back in the bed, returning to their spooning position as Keigo kissed her shoulder tenderly, Airi doing the same to his arm under her head.
The next few days at Five Lakes near Mount Fuji went wonderfully. The four friends explored, relaxed and forgot for a little while about the hectic lives they lived back in Fukuoka.
For the first time in a while, they could forget the dangers they faced back home. They could laugh, explore and enjoy life like normal civilians. A first for the two heroes among them.
All good things come to an end though, because before they all knew it the vacation was coming to an end. Much to each of their chagrin.
"See you at home. I'll be flying above the whole way." Keigo promised, pressing a kiss to Airi's temple as he stretched his wings to fly.
"See you at home, fly safe." Airi returned his kiss before with a grin he took off into the air.
A vacation was nice, and all of them were sure it wouldn't be the last. They're leaving, but they're leaving with stronger bonds than they had before.
But for now, it's time to take those stronger bonds back home.
Vacations are the best, I wish I could go on one. I haven't had a vacation in a few years now, and it wasn't really a real vacation because I was waiting on friends most of the time. Hotel room vacations are boring T-T
But the friends vacation here was good. Wish I could visit Mt. Fuji after doing all the research for this chapter. It's very enticing. And look, their streak of bad luck with interruptions ended! Totally didn't just crop that part out to keep the story at it's T rating and have that set aside as a future bonus chapter. Now their relationship is even stronger, and they acknowledge that they need to remember to communicate their wants and needs with each other.
Are these two relationship goals or what?
So about that little bit about a bonus chapter. I wouldn't put it in this story, as I said I'm trying to keep this at it's T rating but I'm completely aware I'm skirting the literal line with that. I don't usually do this, but I want to see the demand for it. I can post it as a separate, mostly canon, single story. But to do that, I'm requesting reviews for opinion.
To get the bonus chapter/romance shot, I'm requesting ten reviews. I'll post it as soon as I get that, it's literally sitting waiting for use in my bonus chapters document. Probably needs a bit of editing, but regardless it's done.
My usual footnote is getting long, so I hope you all enjoyed this chapter! I've gotta get to work, see yall next chapter!
