Total Drama Valley Season 2, Episode 20: Trivial Revenge.

Chris had given the Final Three players the next day off before the semi-final challenge. Spike had decided to spend his time enjoying all the green food there was to be had at Chris's mansion.

"So good…." He drooled with a mouth full of tree stars. He had managed to mastermind the eliminations of several potential threats in the competition, and now he only had two more left.

CC

Spike: Who should I take with me to the finals? Petrie can be beaten easily. I think I'll focus on taking down Ruby in the next challenge.

Petrie and Ruby, on the other hand, had gone to Chris's gym to train themselves for any challenge that might lie ahead. Ruby was seeing how fast the decide Chris called a "treadmill" could go.

"I don't think I've even seen a fast biter run this fast," Ruby noted as she was going as quickly as he legs could take her.

The flyer was wanting to try an exercise he had seen some of the humans and a few dinos from 2009 try out.

"Me need to get stronger," Petrie grunted, trying to lift some waits. In each of his small hands, he was holding up one small weight which was labeled "1 LB".

CC

Petrie: The flyers of the future must be really tough! Me really started to sweat!

The last remaining member of the Girly Girls team and the last girl from the Goonie Boys team were trying to make themselves tougher. They knew Spike was likely going to play dirty, so they couldn't afford to let their guards down. "We must be our strongest, our strongest is what we must be," Ruby said to Petrie as she got off of the treadmill.

CC

Ruby: It would've been nice to still have Myra in the game. But at least she has a new dad now, that must be worth something.

The fast runner turned to look at the flyer who was trying to build up muscle. "How are you….holding up Petrie?" she asked, adjusting the speed to make things go fast.

"Me…..must make Spike pay," Petrie declared in a tone more serious then Ruby had ever heard from him.

CC

Petrie: Following Chef's advice has helped me get this far, me can't stop now.

As exhilarating as the workout was proving to be, Ruby eventually realized something. "We could get tired if we don't stop, not stopping will tire us out," she told her flying friend.

Petrie who after a long day's effort was able to move up to 2 lb weights immediately figured she had a point. "We do need rest before semi-finals," he nodded to Ruby.

A noise suddenly echoed around them. It was a laugh, a somewhat mean-spirited sounding one. They instantly knew who it was coming from.

"Spike, what do you want now?" Ruby asked as the spiketail stood at the door.

The player who had made an alliance with Chris casually ate tree stars as he looked at his competition. "It's funny to think you two have a chance at beating me," he grinned.

"We'll teach you," Petrie vowed.

Spike let out a hearty chuckle and gave them both a smirk. "I'd like to see you try," he encouraged darkly.

CC

Ruby: I think I liked Spike more when he couldn't talk.

With another bite of his favorite green foods, Spike walked away. Petrie and Ruby were left wondering if they would be able to beat him.

"Me hope the next challenge is something me can handle…" the flyer admitted.

The very next day, the Final Three had taken some preparative measures. They knew well by now that Chris enjoyed waking them up in loud, disrupting ways. Just for once, all of them wanted to have a complete good night's sleep. Petrie tried wrapping himself up in several more blankets than usual. Since 6 of the boys had been eliminated by this point, he had plenty to use.

Ruby, having the girls' trailer to herself, rounded up all the pillows she possibly could and made a little fort around her bed to try to muffle any sounds Chris might use to wake them. They thought their plan was foolproof.

They thought wrong.

"They thought they were being clever," Chris grinned, pulling out a remote control, "But I always have another surprise up my sleeve." He pressed a button, which suddenly caused both of the trailers to shake violently, waking Petrie, Ruby, and Spike up.

"W…w…what h..h…happening?!" Petrie shouted as he was bounced around.

CC

Petrie: Me thought we wouldn't have to deal with any earth shakes in the future!

Luckily for Ruby, her pillow fort managed to cushion her impact as she was shaken around the trailer. Spike was regretting having such a big snack the night before, this was making him sick.

CC

Spike: Not cool, Chris.

After 30 seconds of the trailers bouncing around, the shaking finally stopped. The Final Three exited their resting zones, shaken quite literally.

"Morning TDV Semi-Finalists," Chris chuckled with glee, "I trust I didn't wake you up?"

"Not funny," Ruby frowned.

Chris pointed towards his mansion. "I've prepared the penultimate challenge for you three inside. Please follow me."

The Final Three went along with the host, wondering just what was coming for them next.

…..

The three were led into a massive room. Inside was a big rock climbing wall, with lots of colored lights along the way up.

"We have to climb up rocks?" Petrie asked, "Wasn't that the first challenge we did last season?"

"You're correct," Chris nodded, "But there's a twist this time. First, you'll each be given harnesses that will allow each of you to climb up without needing another player. And it's not just a race to climb the wall."

"Then what's the other part?" Ruby wondered.

"It's also a trivia contest," the host of Total Drama Valley explained. "As you pass each flashing light you see along the rock wall, you will be asked a question about your fellow players and the past episodes of TDV. If you answer correctly you'll be allowed to continue on your path. Answer wrong, and you'll get knocked down and have to climb up again."

The semi-finals were going be a challenge both mental and physical. "Me hope me can remember a lot," Petrie stated.

CC

Ruby: Just sing the Remembering song, and I'll be all right.

"Now everyone, the interns will help you into your harnesses," Chris explained, "You have ten minutes to prepare." With that, the Final Three went to the ones customized for them.

Spike strolled over to the host. "So Chris," he asked, "You're gonna give me the answers to the questions, right?"

Much to Spike's surprise, Chris started to chuckle nervously. "Actually Spike, there's been a change in plans."

"What change in plans?" the spiketail frowned.

"Back at the wedding I got a call from the producers. They had known about our alliance this whole season, and while they were fine with it at first, they realized viewership would decrease if the whole season ended up being rigged."

"So….you mean…?" Spike gulped.

Chris gave him one of his usual self-satisfied smirks. "You're on your own now, dude. Good luck!"

CC

Spike: Ok….this is just a little setback. I'm still incredibly skilled on my own, you know.

The other two dinos were looking up at the wall. From the number of lights, they realized even a completely successful climb would involve a lot of questions being answered by them.

"Whatever happens, we gotta make sure Spike loses. That will teach him his lesson," Ruby told Petrie.

"You got it," Petrie nodded as the intern helped him into his climbing harness. The challenge was about to begin.

….

Spike, Ruby, and Petrie had gotten into the gear required for the challenge. Chris held out his airhorn.

"On the count of 3. 1…2…3….GO!" he declared, letting the airhorn blare.

The Final Three hopped onto the rocks. They had enough space that even a four-footer like Spike would be able to traverse them. The harness also took into account Petrie's flight, so it would prevent that while still allowing him to scale upwards.

Ruby was aiming to take the most direct path she could to the top. Because of that, she reached the first light.

"Trivia question!" Chris called, getting into a cherry picker so he could be on the same elevation as the climbing dinosaurs. "What is Chomper's favorite food?"

CC

Ruby: I know the answer to this, the answer to this is one I know, but I'm not sure Petrie will like hearing it….

"It's….flyers," the fast runner explained, making Petrie shiver.

"Correct, dudedette! You may continue," Chris declared. Ruby nodded and kept climbing.

CC

Petrie: Really, Chomper finds flyers to be the yummiest? Should me take that as a compliment?

While Ruby has an early lead, Spike and Petrie were more on an even pace as they climbed. Spike was the next one to reach a question light.

"Your question Spike," Chris said, navigating over towards him, "In Season 1 of Total Drama Valley, who was the first player eliminated?"

Spike had been on the team that lost the first challenge back in season 1, so he quickly thought over who had been on his team.

"That's easy, it was Hyp," he said.

"You got it," Chris affirmed. Each time one of the Final Three reached a question light, the harnesses would lock in place. This way, no one could continue up until an answer had been given.

The third of the semi-finalists didn't want to fall behind any further. Petrie scaled his way up to the first light on his path up the rock-climbing wall. "Give me a question," he panted.

"Alright Petrie," Chris began, looking over the cards he had the questions prepared on. "For your first question, what type of sharptooth nearly ate Guido successfully once?"

Petrie thought back. He remembered Guido had come close to being eaten one time, but he could barely remember what kind of carnivore it was. "Um….a belly dragger?" he guessed.

"Nope," Chris smirked, "The correct answer is, a bladeback. And for your penalty…."

Suddenly, Petrie's harness began shaking powerfully, making him lose his footing.

"Petrie!" Ruby called, hoped he wasn't hurt.

"Me ok," Petrie called.

CC

Ruby: That looked like a rough tumble.

The flyer did his best to resume climbing back up, now clearly in third place.

As the challenge went on, the TDV semi-finalists felt they had underestimated just how tall the rock-climbing wall was. This was mainly due to the fact that the way the edges were built meant they had to turn in different directions and couldn't simply go straight up and down.

"If I was afraid of heights, I'd be miserable right now," Spike muttered as he reached the next question.

"Funny you should say that, Spike," Chris said as he looked at the next card. "Your next question-what is Cera's greatest fear?"

While Spike had long been eliminated by that point in Season 1, he did recall watching the episode where the remaining players faced their fears.

"Lemme think…..it was high winds, isn't it?" he asked hopefully.

"Correctomundo," Chris complimented, letting him advance.

CC

Ruby: Oh no….I don't want Spike to get to the finale with me, but Petrie is really falling behind.

Meanwhile, Chef Hatchet had put the dinner food in the oven and now opted to sit and wait. But that quickly bored him.

"Might as well go watch and see what they are up to," the former army member shrugged as he went to the room where the challenge was happening in.

Petrie was trying his best to keep up. The second trivia question he was given (What was Rory's lucky charm?) he was able to answer correctly, but Ruby and Spike both had noticeable leads on him.

"You know what the best part about us making the finals will be, Ruby?" Spike called smugly.

"What's that?" Ruby sighed, rolling her eyes.

Spike gave a genuinely wicked grin. "It means Shorty will get to see you lose up close and personal!"

Even though the background music was only added to the show by the editors later after the filming, the room suddenly could not have become quieter than it did.

"You shouldn't have done that," Petrie called.

CC

Ruby: I wanted to teach Spike a lesson, a lesson is what Spike needs to be taught. But for what he just said? HE HAS TO PAY.

Petrie: Spike messed up there.

…..

Suddenly, with the fury of a thousand bright circles, Ruby began practically leaping up the rocks. "Give me the question!" she downright roared at Chris.

"Um, right," he replied nervously. "Name one of the gifts Tippy was given by her secret admirer."

"Heart-shaped rocks," Ruby replied bluntly, and she was given pass to keep climbing up.

CC

Spike: I always figured the Final Two will be me and Ruby, anyways. I just have to prepare my tactics.

When Chef came into the rock-climbing room, he was taken aback when he saw how Petrie was currently in last place.

"Are you really going to let it end like this?!" he shouted at the flyer, "You have to be tough!"

Hearing those words from his partial mentor, Petrie felt a newfound confidence emerge. He had worried that his training the previous day didn't help him, but now he new it was a matter of both mind and body.

"Me can do this!" Petrie declared with pride.

CC

Petrie: Me won't let Chef down, and me certainly won't let myself down!

The smallest of the semi-finalists began scaling the rocks at a pace faster than ever he thought possible. He was hoping to close the gap between him and Spike soon.

Spike stopped on a question light. "How many siblings does Petrie have?" Chris asked.

CC

Petrie: Ha! Even me lose track of that number!

"Um…..5?" Spike guessed. The suddenly shaking that knocked him down the wall quickly indicated that he was wrong. He was now practically right next to Petrie.

Ruby was ascending with a soldier's determination. She reached the last light before the top.

"This could be it," Chris told Ruby excitedly, "How many times did Shorty win individual invincibility?"

"Twice," Ruby replied bluntly, "One for the fear facing challenge and the other for the tree climbing challenge."

"You got it!" Chris congratulated, "You may proceed to the top."

Ruby smiled victoriously and made the last few steps to the top of the rock wall, where other interns waited to help her adjust the harness. "I made it!" she shouted loudly and with pride.

"Ruby has made it to the Final Two!" Chris announced, "But who will make it to the finale with her?"

…..

Spike and Petrie were now locked into an epic trivia answering/rock climbing race. Neither of the boys cut the other any slack here.

"I'll flatten you," Spike taunted the flyer.

"You won't win," growled Petrie.

The fast runner finalist watched from the deck at the top of the wall. It was a real claw biter, it was anyone's game. Even as they were about only one question light from the top, she wasn't sure what would happen.

But then….Spike managed to reach the light. "Ha! My moment of triumph," he smirked darkly at Petrie.

"This should be an easy one too, considering it's about something from just two days ago," Chris explained, "What is Myra's mother's name?"

Spike's face fell flat. "Wha?" he asked.

Even Petrie looked shocked. "We won that challenge," he called, "Weren't you paying any attention?"

CC

Spike: Winning was my main goal there, not all the small details. Cut me a break.

Chris's former alliance member was desperately trying to remember the answer. "You only got 10 more seconds to give me an answer, man," Chris reminded.

"Was it…..Sally?" Spike squeaked out.

There was silence. Nothing seemed to be happening. And then…..

"Nope," Chris laughed, as Spike's harness shook again and he descended down the wall. He turned to look at Petrie. "Seeing how you two were basically neck and neck, I'll let you answer the same queston."

Petrie thought back to the party. How fun it had been even if all the guests were sharpteeth who could easily have eaten him at any moment. He remembered how glad Myra was to have a new dad, and he remembered hearing what her mother's name was.

"Me think it is….Sara," Petrie announced.

Again, silence. Nothing. But this time….

"That's correct!" Chris cheered, letting Petrie advance a few more feet to reach the top of the rock-climbing wall.

CC

Chef: Petrie did me proud, I'll admit.

With a new powerful feeling of triumph, Petrie reached the top of the rock wall. Spike had been metaphorically and literally left hanging, and now he was defeated.

"Me…me made it!" Petrie laughed in sincere joy. As the interns helped him out of the harness, it only confirmed the joy inside him. He and Ruby had just taken down this season's antagonist!

"Petrie! Ruby! The Final Two!" Chris said, walking up some stairs to join them at the deck. They shook hands with the host.

The two remaining dinos smirked at each other. "So does this mean what I think it means?" Ruby asked Chris.

"It's precisely what you think it is," Chris affirmed.

….

Obviously there was no voting this time around. After being let down with the harness, Spike was led straight to the time machine.

"Aww man, I was hoping to enjoy the finalists' buffet like Ali and Chomper got last time," he complained.

"Let this be a lesson to you Spike, you can't go around messing with everyone," Petrie said wisely.

Since she had accomplished her goal, Ruby felt less mad. "You did put up a challenge there in that last game. I hope losing will make you less mean Spike, because I can't wait to play with you again."

Spike's disappointment at the whole ordeal eased when Ruby said that. "Thanks Ruby," he called back. "I just hope everyone back in our time isn't ticked at me."

Petrie shrugged his wings. "You'll just have to see," he figured, as Spike entered the time machine and was sent back to 65 Million BC.

With the Final Two before him, Chris addressed the audience. "It's been an epic season, full of danger, excitement, love, and betrayals. After many battles only Ruby and Petrie remain. Who will emerge victorious in the season finale? Stay tuned for both the final aftermath and later, the final challenge, here on Total…..Drama…..Valley!" he monologued to the viewers.

Petrie and Ruby stood still for several seconds, looking around. "Can we move now?" Petrie asked Chris.

"Yeah, sure," the host replied.
