A few weeks passed and Sophia was out of the hospital and slowly recovering. JJ kept her home from school and the team went over frequently to visit. Emily decided to extend her stay in the states.

Since her secret was out, she avoided the team as much as possible and decided to lay low for the time being.

Exactly two weeks after the accident, Sophia started going back to school. When Sophia went back to her normal routine, Emily figured it was time for her to leave.

Prentiss knew it was a bad idea, but she didn't tell anyone she was leaving until the day before her flight. So, the night before her early morning flight, Emily went to speak with JJ and told her about going back to London.

"You're leaving?!" JJ asked.

"It's time," Emily told her.

The two were at JJ's house drinking and chatting.

"How can you not tell her?" JJ questioned.

"I will, when she's older. Right now, I think it's best if I go and let her have a normal life with you. JJ, I see the way she looks at you," Prentiss said.

"You can't just leave her again. Don't you think she's going to get angrier the longer you put off telling her?"

Emily just sighed and said,

"I just want to do what's best for her and I think staying with you is."

JJ nodded silently and took a sip of her drink. After a moment of silence JJ asked, "When you tell Sophia, how are you going to tell her about her father?"

Emily looked up from her mug and said seriously,

"She doesn't have one."

"Em," JJ said.

"A father is someone who is supposed to care for you, support you and love you, so no. Sophia doesn't have a father."

Prentiss hated talking about the Doyle situation and how she ended up getting Sophia.

"Biologically though, Sophia has a father. And that relationship-"

"JJ, there is not and never will be a relationship between my daughter and the man who got me pregnant. If she ever found out where she came from-"

Emily couldn't even finish her sentence. JJ felt bad for pushing her friend, but she believed Sophia deserved answers.

After taking a deep breath, Prentiss continued,

"I made her for nine months and she came out of me so she's mine, not Ian's!"

"Okay, Em. It's okay," JJ said putting her hand over her friend's.

Prentiss blinked a few times then closed her eyes for a few seconds.

After one last deep breath she abruptly got up and said,

"I need to go finish packing."

JJ let her go and decided to give the woman a break.

Once Prentiss was gone, JJ headed upstairs and went to check on Sophia. The child was fast asleep, unaware of the fact that her mother was abandoning her for the second time.

The next morning, Sophia got up and headed to school. JJ had a meeting with Henry's teacher that day, so she wouldn't be at the BAU when Sophia got there.

When Sophia got off the bus at the BAU she walked towards Garcia's lair and could hear Penelope and Morgan fighting. She was curious to hear what it was about, so she stood outside the door and listened carefully to what they were saying.

"Derek, you can't tell her," Penelope said to him.

"Penelope, she deserves to know the truth! Emily has been lying to her all her life and has let her down time after time! She's going back to London today and hasn't told her!" Morgan yelled back.

"She doesn't think she's ready yet. She's doing what's best for Sophia," Penelope said.

Right when the girl heard her name, she got even more interested.

"No, she's not. She's doing what she does best and she's running away from her problems. Sophia is one of the best kids I know and knowing that Emily screwed up her life more than once-"

"No, you don't get it. Emily is trying to protect Sophia-" Garcia tried to explain.

"Since when are you on her side?" Morgan asked.

"You should cut her some slack, she's been through a lot and-"

"No matter what she's been through, no excuse is good enough for abandoning your child," Derek said a little more calmly.

Sophia gasped.

Did she hear him correctly? Was he saying that Emily was somehow connected to her?

"A mother is supposed to protect and love her child unconditionally. She isn't supposed to drop her kid off at a park when it gets hard. That's not how parenting works," he added.

That silenced Penelope.

Sophia was on the verge of tears but held it in because she wasn't one hundred percent sure she was hearing it all correctly. Was Derek saying Emily was her biological mother? And if so, why has everyone been lying to her?

She stumbled backwards away from the door and needed to take a breath. She knew the one person she could get answers out of to confirm her theory.

Sophia quickly wiped her eyes dry and then ran towards Hotch's off, almost bumping into Reid on the way.

"Woah, watch out there," the genius joked. The child ignored him and continued on.

Sophia knocked on Aaron Hotchner's door and when he said come in, the first thing she asked was, "Where did Emily live before she worked for the BAU?"

"I think Chicago, Illinois, why?"

Instead of answering his question she asked,

"Is she the person who donated blood to me when I had my accident?"

The look Hotch gave her answered that question. Sophia had wide eyes and then turned around and tried running out. When she reached the door, Morgan was there with Penelope.

"Reid told us you darted to Hotch's office after hearing us fighting, what's going on?" Derek asked.

"Is it true?" Sophia asked and her eyes started to sting.

"Is what true?" Derek wanted to know.

"Don't," Sophia growled.

"Sophia-" Garcia tried to say and took a step forward.

"Is Emily my mom?" the girl wanted to know and looked at Derek.

Garcia quickly looked down and sighed. All eyes were on Morgan.

"What made you think that-" he started to ask.

"Is she?!" the kid demanded to know.

He nodded but said,

"Look, you weren't supposed to find out like this."

"Oh my God," Sophia whispered. She was absolutely shocked.

"Sophia," Garcia tried to put a hand on the child's arm. However, she flinched and pulled away really fast.

"Don't touch me," she snapped.

"Sweetheart-"

"No, you lied to me," she said. Then she looked around at everyone else and said, "You all lied to me."

"How could you?" she asked and her voice cracked.

No one knew what to say and there was a pause.

"I hate all of you," she told them and then pushed past Morgan and started running towards the elevator to leave. The agents of course followed her.

"Sophia," Derek called just as the elevator opened. Sophia looked back and when she turned back around, JJ was the one getting out and she was met with a red eyes puffy nosed child.

"What's wrong?" she asked seriously.

Sophia flung herself into JJ's arms and started sobbing.

The blonde was taken aback and asked,

"Honey, what happened?"

"I wanna go home," Sophia cried and dug her head further into JJ's chest.

The blonde looked up at her friends.

"She found out about Emily," Reid told her.

"What do you mean?" JJ wanted to know as she rubbed the child's.

Sophia pulled back and said,

"I hate her and I never want to see her again. She's a liar and-"

She couldn't finish her sentence because she broke down crying again and wrapped her arms around JJ.

JJ kissed the top of her head and then led her back into the elevator.

"Okay, we have a lot to talk about," she said and pressed the down button.

Sophia peeked out at the agents and saw how sad they looked and for a split second she felt bad for screaming at them.

Once they got in the car, JJ looked over to see Sophia gazing out the window with big tears rolling down her cheeks. She sniffled and closed her eyes as another tear slipped out. JJ reached over and held her hand the rest of the way home.

When they got home, Sophia went to her room and instantly got in bed. JJ joined her and as the child laid on her, she rubbed her back and let her cry until she couldn't cry anymore.

"Can I just ask, why aren't you mad at me for not telling you?"

"Because I know why you didn't tell me," the kid said quietly.

"Why is that?"

"Because you wanted to give Emily a chance to make things right."

"I really am sorry you found out like this."

"Me too," Sophia said and dug her head into JJ's side.

"Listen, Emily loved you-"

Sophia picked her head up and asked,

"Loved? As in past tense?"

"No, that's not what I meant. Of course she still loves you. She always will. It's just, at the time she was going through something that-" the blonde tried to explain.

"JJ just stop," Sophia told her.

"Stop making up excuses for her. She left me again," Sophia said and as she realized her mother was so close and left again she plopped back down on JJ.

"I hate Emily," the girl whispered.

"Shhhh. I know you don't mean it, it's okay," JJ said softly and rubbed her back.

Sophia just huffed and shook her head. After a moment of silence, Sophia asked softly,

"Why doesn't she want me?"

That sentence broke JJ's heart. It showed her the real reason why Sophia was upset. The brunette was sad because her own mother showed her that she didn't think she was good enough for her.

"Sophia she does want to be a part of your life," JJ said.

"Then why did she go back to London without telling me?" the child questioned.

"Because she didn't think you were ready."

"Ready for what?"

"Knowing the truth. She felt that you being here with me in a stable home was better than just her," the blonde explained.

"What did you say?"

"That's not important."

"JJ tell me."

"I told her that if she wanted to prove to you that she still cared, she should've talked to you before she left."

Sophia just nodded and didn't respond.

Then Jennifer heard her whisper,

"How could I have not known?"

"Sweetheart, no one told you-"

"But I looked just like her and according to everyone here, I acted like her too. When I first came to live with you, Penelope told me I reminded her of Emily all the time."

JJ's eyebrow raised.

"You do look just like her," the blonde commented.

"You have the same long brown hair and chocolate eyes," she added as she ran her fingers through the child's hair.

"You're both beautiful and smart. Both sassy yet classy and even when you do something wrong your heart is always in the right place and sweetheart, I know you might not think this now, but Emily was doing everything to protect you because she loves you."

Sophia's nose just wrinkled up and her little body started shaking and trembling with sadness as she finally let it all out.
