Author's Note: I was struggling to write this chapter for some reason so I apologise if it's kind of messy. I hope it's not though. I look forward to your reviews anyhow! If you have suggestions or anything, let me know! Keep safe!
It seems that Emiko was on point. Kusuo heard Kokomi and Chiyo practicing a speech in the restroom so they'd have an excuse to join them in their room. Well, he sucks at Uno so he'll just head to shore and just sleep on one of the beach chairs.
Disappointed in seeing no Saiki in the room, Kokomi decided to look for him just before Emiko finished her meeting.
Tired, and wanting to have a good nights rest, Emiko entered their room and saw that there was a bunch of guys in their room waiting for her and Teruhashi.
"Hiro-san!"
"You're here! Let's play truth or dare."
She didn't want to play truth or dare. "I'm a little tired, if you guys don't mind. I also happen to a class rep and I need to know where Chiyo and Kokomi are."
"Oh, they left. They went out but they haven't returned." Mera filled her in.
"Sorry, guys. Finding my friends is my priority. I need to know where they are as it's lights out soon." Emiko said apologetically as she left the room. "They must be in Kusuo's room. I hope they're not bothering him too much."
She knocked on the door of the boys only to be greeted by the unpleasant face of Takahashi and friends who seemed all too happy to see her. She wasn't going to pretend to like them to keep up with appearances.
"Oh, Takahashi. How was the peeping? I heard that it didn't go so well." She said with a smile.
Kaido was snickering behind him and Nendou was lost in what she meant. Takahashi's face turned red in embarrassment and tried to stutter out, well, anything.
"Mad respect for Nendou, huh?" She asked. "He has all that and he doesn't peep. Some people think he's the worst in the class but they're wrong. He's better than a lot of people and I know for a fact that he's better than you three. Why don't you learn how to respect your classmates?"
The pervy crew of three were so ashamed that they opted not to say anything. Chiyo admired her way with words as Kaido admired her confidence. Nendou was still lost.
She turned to Chiyo. "It's lights out soon. Where is Kokomi and where is Kusuo?"
"Kokomi went to look for Saiki because he wasn't here when we entered." Chiyo explained.
"Do you know where he is?" She asked Kaido who shook his head.
Emiko left the room and quickly searched for the two. She had a bad feeling. She went outside the hotel. Should she fly? It might be easier that way. She kicked herself off the ground to peer above the hotel when, well, the hotel disappeared. She was so scared that she was panicking wondering what might have happened. Would Kusuo do something like that? Or was it someone else entirely? What happened to all her friends? Were they safe? Was Kusuo safe? Why was this class trip full of disasters? She probably wasn't going to get answers in the air when she spotted two heads of pink and purple by the beach and landed there.
As she approached, she heard Reita yelling at Kusuo about bringing back the hotel and how high school girls are national treasures.
"What's going on?" She called as walked to them.
Reita looked happy to see her, so much in fact that he embraced her in a comprising way which ticked off both Saiki and Emiko. The girl was so concerned about Kusuo that she was about to embrace him. Everything happened in the span of a second: the psychic was relieved to see his friend and was about to allow an embrace when he realised that Emiko didn't know just how dangerous he was without his limiter so he held his hand out to stop her before he realised that it was a bad decision because as soon as his harm was held out, he sent a strong blast that Emiko, with her quick thinking, managed to absorb most of, but it knocked her out in process.
"Saiki! What did you do?" Reita asked quietly scared of what was happening.
The pink haired boy had never been so terrified of his powers before that moment as he stood there stunned seeing Emiko's limp form in Reita's arms.
'Feel her pulse, please.' He pleaded. Usually, he'd never allow someone like Reita to touch Emiko but her wellbeing was of utmost importance at the moment.
"It's beating... It's beating! I think she'll be okay." The two boys sighed in relief.
'This is bad. I'm dangerous without my limiter. The hotel is probably at sea and is of equal value of the ship we saw earlier. I'll transfer it back.'
Within a few seconds, the hotel returned to its original position. He asked Reita for his limiter but found that he didn't have it. He heard the thoughts of his friends in the hotel looking for Emiko and Kokomi. So it was Kokomi who had his limiter.
'I'm going to teleport to Teruhashi, in the meantime, please take care of Emiko. Nothing should happen to her, am I clear?' He said threateningly.
"Y-yes! Why do you have to be so scary?"
'I know you're attracted to her so keep your perverted thoughts and your hands to yourself.'
He used clairvoyance to search for Teruhashi. He saw that she was about to be attacked by a bear so he teleported immediately. It seemed like the blue haired beauty thought that she was dreaming and snuggled up to Saiki.
In Toritsuka's side of things, he was worried about Emiko. She was one of the few girls who didn't treat him like trash (which, let's get real, he was), though she often scolded him for his bad, disrespecting behaviour. Suddenly, Teruhashi and Emiko's roommates starting running to him being all worried about their whereabouts which made him so happy to think that he was finally popular. He later learned that Saiki used hypnosis to make him appear as Teruhashi. He had plans to use this to his advantage.
"We were worried about you guys! What happened to Emiko?" Yuuki cried.
"She, uh... Sh-she, fainted because there was a flasher. He, uh, flashed his privates and so Emiko was so shocked she fainted and hit her head."
"What? That's so unlike Emiko! Knowing her, she would have taught that guy a lesson." Tora said.
'Why is it that that is the excuse you came up with?' Kusuo asked from afar.
"Let's go back to the room! Let's all try to carry Emiko." Yuuki said worried for their friend.
"No, it's okay! I can do it." Reita said momentarily forgetting that he was supposed to be Kokomi. He picked Emiko up and lifted her. 'If only Emiko can see how manly I am right now.'
"Oh my! Kokomi! You're so strong!"
"What? Huh? Oh yeah! I am. Been working out so I can defend myself from perverts if need be."
"Like Toritsuka?" Rei asked.
"Wh-what? Hahaha Toritsuka? Isn't he a good guy?" He said offended.
"I don't think so. He always has strange magazines in his bag."
"ANYWAY! Let's head to the room." He said changing the subject.
Back to Kusuo's side of things, he, they were no longer in a forest but in a castle. Teruhashi wanted to make this moment more romantic with him, and was cornering him to say the thing she's been wanting him to say 'Oh.'
'To hell with that.' He transferred places with Toritsuka. It didn't take long before the said boy stuttered out an 'Oh' making Teruhashi extremely pleased with herself and sleepy that she was knocked out right after.
After putting everything back to the way they should have been, after returning Teruhashi to their room, he went to Emiko who was sleeping soundly. He squatted next to her and extended his hand to see if she had any injuries. There was only one. Her ribs were only just a bit fractured.
'I can't believe I did this to her.' A big surge of guilt went through him. He was going to heal it when he noticed that her injuries were healing by themselves at rate faster than he did for the world. Could this mean that her injuries earlier were a lot worse for her body to still be healing at this rate? There was a lot he didn't know about her and there was a lot she didn't even know about herself, it seems. He touched her arm and then healed her body so it wouldn't have to heal anymore. As soon as it did, her eyes fluttered open. She stared into the blank before her brain started to work. Her eyes landed on Kusuo who had his eyebrows furrowed waiting for a response that will let him know that she was okay. She paused and recalled all that happened and realised that Kusuo must have done a lot to get things back to normal.
'You okay? How are you feeling? I'm sorry for that blast earlier I didn't mean it.'
'I'm fine. I feel pretty recharged. You should sleep.'
'You sure you're okay?' He asked again.
'Yes. Now go to bed before you stay in our room long enough to be called a perv.'
'You know I was only worried.'
'Please don't feel guilty about it.'
'I'll try.'
'Goodnight, Kusuo. Sleep. You need it more than anyone.'
'Okay. Goodnight, Emiko.'
Kusuo then teleported to his house so that he may sleep well without any disturbances. He realised that he should have done that earlier instead of on the beach chair. Could Emiko hate him after this incident? If she did, would it be for the best? His lids closed before he could process another thought.
The next day was on odd one. Teruhashi couldn't look at Saiki without turning red because of her "dream." Toritsuka was over the moon for having been able to hold Hiro and Teruhashi and was able to "wrestle" with the girls and try to remove their clothes. Emiko tried talking to Kusuo but he wouldn't look her in the eye, and if it were possible, he was avoiding interaction with her which she found to be rather upsetting. When they entered the bus, he sat a seat farther away. In the plantation, he made sure that she wouldn't be able to talk to him.
"Kusuo! Look at this! I-"
"Emi-chan! Let's eat the pineapples!" Mera would interrupt and Kusuo would suddenly disappear from sight.
The same thing happened in the aquarium. She walked to Kusuo to say something when she when the tour guide would suddenly ask her if should would like to get a better closeup of the whale.
It finally came to the very much awaited Emerald beach. The boys changed quickly and went to see the girls leave the dressing room. One by one, the girls in their class came out and were all very beautiful. The group only turned into a crowd they realised that soon, it would be Teruhashi and Hiro who will make their appearance.
Emiko wasn't particularly pleased with the idea of being crowded when she left the dressing room as she didn't want people to view her like she was some sort of model, so she wrapped herself up in a bathrobe, wore shades, put her hair in a bun and hid it under a bucket hat. She sneakily hid behind another woman leaving the area and dashed to a farther side of the beach. She knew that they were waiting to see her, but she didn't have the confidence Kokomi had when it came to attention about her body. It's not like they won't see her later anyway. She just wanted a bit of peace and quiet for a while.
She lay on her beach towel under an umbrella with her bathrobe wide open to reveal her swimsuit which was a seafood green strapless one piece with mesh stripes at the midsection. She stared out into the sea. Why would Kusuo avoid her? Was it because she didn't keep her promise about making sure their group mates were in control? Was he guilty because he had sent her a blast that made her unconscious? Every time she tried to talk to him, something or someone would interrupt them so she couldn't get a word out. She knew it was his doing seeing as he's done that several times when they hung out.
She was thinking of rejoining her group when she saw someone struggling in the water. She at first thought that it was someone just swimming but saw that they were desperately trying to reach a swim ring that floated away. They probably couldn't scream for help because water was flooding into their lungs. Being the hero that she was, she discarded her bathrobe, shades and hat and ran like the wind and swam to the drowning person.
The students were confused when they saw that Emiko didn't come out of the dressing room.
"Where is she? Is she still there?"
"I really wanted to see her."
"Hey! Yumehara! Where is Hiro-san?"
"Huh? She left the dressing room earlier."
"Why didn't we see her?" A boy asked.
"I don't know."
'She probably didn't want to be seen.' Kusuo thought to himself. 'Very few people knew that Emiko was shy when it came to her body.'
He also knew that Emiko was bothered about the distance he kept from her earlier in the day. He was feeling guilty about what he had done the night before. He never intended to harm her but he did to the extent that he may have fractured many parts of her body that was healing in his absence. He knew that she'd tell him to forget about it and move on, but he simply couldn't do that yet. If he spoke to her, he'd feel guilty that she could easily forgive and forget what harm he allowed to befall her when he can't even forgive himself for it. When she was unconscious, he was terrified of himself that he never had never wished more than he did at the moment that he didn't have his powers. During their short time apart, he realised that their probability of ending up with each other in the future should be zero because that would significantly lower the chances of him harming her again. It's not like he thought they'd end up together anyway.
'I'm gonna die. And my mommy doesn't even know I'm here.' He heard a voice that seems to have resigned to their death. He was so wrapped in his thoughts that he didn't even notice. He quickly pinpointed the person who was drowning and realised that Emiko had beaten him to it.
Like a scene from a movie, and opposite of what Emiko would have wanted, she walked to the shore with a child in her arms and her body glistening with water making her appear like a sea goddess. Her classmates who were around the area watched her in awe as she walked out of the water holding a little boy who seemed close to being unconscious. She let the boy down and rubbed his back as he knelt and puked out sea water.
"Are you okay? Can you breathe properly now?" She asked the boy gently after he stopped puking. He replied by nodding and then started crying. She hugged him and whispered some consoling words. "Let's find your mom?" The boy nodded again and she carried him away from the crowd that formed around her.
"She's so cool." One of her classmates said.
"And hot. I mean, the kid was sad and all but did you see her body?"
"That girl is like a superhero." Yuuki said. The rest agreed.
"Who was that beautiful girl? Haven't seen her around here before." Two locals said.
"She'll make a great mother." Nendou said freaking everyone out because of his face.
Teruhashi, brimming with jealousy, made a choice to try and squash it down. Emiko was a lovely person and she did deserve the attention people gave her even if she didn't seem to want it.
Saiki stared after his friend agreeing with the collective thought regarding her beauty and kind soul which is why she didn't deserve his cold attitude.
A few minutes later, two guys started to hit on Kokomi making her very uncomfortable. Kaido and Yumehara started to defend her despite their harsh words. The two guys told Chiyo that she was just jealous because no one seemed to find her appealing making Kaido angry and throwing a punch at one of them. It didn't hurt at all, but Saiki made sure that it would so using his powers, he made sure that it ached so much they'd leave. This made Chiyo, bless her heart, fall in love with Kaido. Behind them, Emiko was standing witnessing the whole thing. She admired Kaido's courage and totally understood the face Chiyo made as she stared at him. Kaido was cute after all.
The rest of the beach day was spent with games and swimming. Emiko made no more effort to try and talk to Kusuo. She decided that she wouldn't let her time here be spoilt if her friend didn't want to talk to her. Sure, it hurt, but now isn't probably the time to talk.
Sunburnt and tired, the trip going back to the hotel was a quiet one where majority napped or spoke quietly. When they got back, they changed their clothes and had dinner. Some went to the arcade, some to the onsen and some hung out in their rooms. Emiko felt she reached her social quota for the day so she went out and looked out into the ocean. She didn't mean to seem dramatic but it appeared that way according to Kusuo who was now standing beside her.
'You look like you're in a scene in a music video.' He said hoping to lighten the mood a bit.
"And you look like the new guy who's coming to cheer me up after a bad breakup." She smiled sadly.
'I'm sorry for avoiding you today.'
"Ah. It feels better now that I know that for sure. Why were you ignoring me?"
'I freaked out.'
"That's so unlike you."
'Shut up. I'm trying to be apologetic.' He said with a frown.
"Still unlike you!" She exclaimed.
Kusuo was glad that she made the situation less awkward than he thought it would be. He was figuring out the different ways to apologise without it being so awkward. He wasn't used to offering people an apology. He also totally excluded the fact that she could lighten the mood easily.
'I should have told you the scale of how strong my powers are without my limiter, so when Teruhashi removed it, it was scary. I felt terrible when I accidentally blasted you. You have no idea how scary it was to see you unconscious. Then after, I checked up on you to see how you were, I noticed a few of your ribs were fractured. You might wanna know, that your body was healing at am extremely fast rate. So the fact that it was still healing after I've been gone for three hours made me aware that the damages I've done were big and I wasn't able to check on it right away. I didn't want to talk to you the next day because I was drowning in guilt.'
"I was healing...?" She trailed off "Kusuo, you should have known that I would have forgiven you right away. It was an accident. Also, it was partially my fault. I should have kept better watch on Kokomi like I said I would. I'm sorry."
Kusuo furrowed his brows. He was supposed to be apologising. 'I'm the one who's sorry. You couldn't have known Teruhashi would do that and you were in a meeting.'
"Forgiven! Gosh! Let's not make this more awkward than it has to be." She smiled. Her smile faltered when she remembered "My body healed fast? I wonder why."
'Maybe it's part of your powers.'
"I guess. But I'm glad we're talking again. I didn't know just how much valued your company until today."
'Eh. I was fine. You're always so noisy.'
"Hey!"
'I'm kidding. I kinda missed you too.'
Their time in Okinawa ended well as Kusuo saw just how much his friends valued him. He wanted to have this special coffee flavoured anmitsu and when it ran out, as it was a limited edition, Nendou got a bowl, for him and all of them put part of theirs into the bowl giving him the largest anmitsu of all.
In the plane going back, Kusuo was in good spirits and even more so when their trip ended with no more calamities. Though majority were sad the trip was over, they were happier to have built closer relationships with each other. Except maybe Nendou and Kaido who were still arguing about not getting enough sleep because of how noisy each other was.
Quickly walking away from all of that, Kusuo walked out of the airport with Emiko and saw their parents outside waiting for them. Kuniharu noticed that their children walking side by side and Kusuo smirking at something Emiko said.
'Could it be that this school trip has kindled their romance and now Kusuo has a wonderful girlfriend who can make him smile?' Kuniharu thought to himself.
'What about saying that you're happy your son is safe?' Kusuo replied to his thoughts making his father smile nervously.
'Is she your girlfriend now though?'
'Still no. Always no.'
'Aw. My son is pretty lame.'
Kusuo just rolled his eyes and embraced his mother that rushed to hug him.
'I can't wait to get home and sleep.' He thought.
Author's Note: This was a long chapter. I might edit it in the future if it bothers me. It hasn't so far.
Damn. I was able to speed through this series when I first watched it. Now that I'm writing something about it, I didn't realise how long it actually is. Wondering if I should deviate a bit from the series. What do you guys think?
