Chapter 29

As the days passed, Bella would asked questions about things she thought about regarding the elven race, magic, or Alfheim. She had so much information swirling around in her head, she wasn't always able to keep up with it all.

Bella and Edward would often take walks in the forest near the back of her old house to help clear her mind. They would discuss anything and everything and when she a question came to mind he would try his best to explain it to her. And when he couldn't answer, they'd return to the bunker and ask Carlisle.

"So, when Charlie was sick," Bella asked one day while they were walking in the forest, hand in hand. "I heard Carlisle saying something."

"Vanir, ich bitte dich, hör auf mit diesem Leiden." Edward stated, recalling what he and Carlisle had both prayed.

"What does it mean?"

"It was a prayer to Vanir, asking, begging that he stop the madness and the infection. That he intervene and send a cure."

"Couldn't you or Carlisle do that?" Bella wondered.

"Neither of us have that kind of power." He responded, shaking his head. "To heal a country, let alone the world. It takes a Being of incredible size and strength. Carlisle is a healer and healers need to touch those they are performing magic on."

"It's not black and white is it?"

"No, just as things on Earth are not in black and white. Magic deals in shades of grey too."

Bella sighed. "Thank you for trying to fix him. I know you both did all you could."

Edward squeezed her hand, acknowledging her thanks.

"What is your specialty?" Bella asked curiously.

Edward read her face carefully before he continued. He could only find genuine curiously so he explained his magic to her.

"I am very adapt at talking with nature. I can heal, I know the spells, but it takes work and practice. Carlisle, it comes naturally to him, just as conversing with nature comes naturally to me."

"What you mean, conversing with nature?"

In response, Edward stopped walking and placed his hand on a tree. For a few moments there was nothing but after a moment Bella saw something sprout. It grew until it formed a bulbous head on the end. Edward waved his hand across the bulb and a white daisy sprung out.

Bella gasped and reached out to gently stroke the flower than had suddenly appeared.

Edward plucked it off the tree and placed it behind her ear with a soft smile.

"Just like breathing." Bella whispered under her breath, starting to understand what Carlisle meant when he explained it earlier. It seemed so easy for Edward to manipulate the tree. As if it took nothing at all.

"That was amazing." Bella spoke reverently once she'd gained her composure.

Edward smiled and shrugged. "It's a simple spell." He responded humbly.

The two began walking again and came upon an open, grassy field.

"Close your eyes." Edward asked coming to stand in front of Bella. Without hesitating she closed her eyes. Edward took her hands and lead her into the middle of the field. She felt him come to stand behind her a moment later, placing his hands on her shoulders.

"Open." He whispered into her ear.

Bella's eyes fluttered open and were met with a magic sight. Thousands of pink, white, yellow, and red flowers had sprung up around them. It was incredible. For as far as she could see there was a thick blanket of delicate blooms.

"Would you like a different view?" Edward asked.

Bella nodded, wondering if maybe they were going to climb a tree.

Instead, Edward turned Bella and placed his hands on her waist, grasping it firmly.

"Put your hands around my neck." He instructed. "And hold on tightly."

Bella followed his order, still curious as to what he was going to do when suddenly she felt weightless. The ground, she realized, was getting further and further away from them. Edward had levitated them up into their air without moving a muscle.

"How are you doing this?" Bella asked incredulously. Her tone filled with wonder and awe.

"We work with the fabric of the cosmos. I ask it to move or lift me or something else and it obeys. It's like it reads my mind and bends to my will."

Slowly, Edward moved them across the field so that they could take in the view below. The wind blew a gentle breeze and Bella could smell the fragrant flowers below. He moved them higher and higher until they were well above the tree line. She stared in awe at the view. Unable to comprehend how this was even happening.

"How else can you make the cosmos bend?" She asked as they twirled around.

"You can speak it, use your hands to manipulate it, or write it down. Carlisle uses his hands and speaks spells mostly in his craft. But he writes things down too."

"How is that different to saying as spell?"

"Always so curious." Edward responded with a chuckle. "Are you ready to head back so I can answer your question?"

Bella nodded hesitantly. "What will happen to the flowers when we leave?"

"They'll disappear. I'll stop the spell."

"Will they die?" Bella asked sadly.

Edward shook his head. "They will just cease to exist. As if I was never here. Return back to the form they were once in."

"But I thought magic was irreversible once it had been spoken?"

"It depends on the spell. What I did was a simple manipulation spell, the result wasn't intended to be permanent. I could make it permanent if I wanted to." He explained.

Bella thought hard for a moment.

"Shades of grey, remember?" Edward reminded her as their feet touched the ground.

Bella looked up at him and then stood high on her tippy toes. Edward bent his neck slowly to meet hers and then touched their lips together. They kissed for a moment, loosing themselves to the feel of each other.

"Are you impressed?" Edward asked cheekily after a moment when they had both settled down.

"No one will ever be able to top it." Bella responded simply.

Taking her hand with a smirk, Edward lead them back to the bunker to where his father was waiting.
