Long Live the Evil Triplet
Chapter 20
The Dark Side
Luis's heart nearly came up his throat when Della poked her head inside their room. Her eyes darted from each triplet, until she settled on Luis who stared back at her. Huey blinked, not totally as scared as Luis looked, just oblivious.
"M,Mom?" Huey asked.
Della pushed the door more wider and Luis's heart seemed to do a free fall from his throat to his stomach when he saw that she was holding Luis's rifle that he just now realized he had dropped when his Mom rammed him up the wall earlier.
"I thought I told you three to get to bed?" She hissed the last three words and gave Luis a death stare.
Huey looked from her to Luis then back again before slowly backing up himself and climbing the ladder to his top bunk. Luis slowly let go of Dewey who scrambled out from under him and jumped in his bed. Luis slowly stood up he and Della staring each other down, daring each other to come clean about their true intentions.
Luis glanced outside nervously then winced when he heard the gun click as their mother prompt it upward and leaned it against her shouder making Luis look back at her in alarm. Della snickered and waited.
Huey and Dewey watched both eyes widen.
Was Della actually threatening Luis with his own rifle?
This was totally out of character for their mother. Who was suppose to love them, not threaten them silently with a gun, just becuase they hadn't gone to bed yet.
Luis didn't seem at all surprised as he narrowed his eyes at Della.
"Lwellewyn, bed. NOW!" Della barked at him.
Luis didn't move.
"FIne. Then." Della said, she marched up to Luis who glared up at her, avoiding Huey and Dewey's stare. She grabbed a fist full of feathers on top of Luis's head and started dragging him out of the room.
Luis looked back helplessly at Huey and Dewey. Dewey didn't show any remorse for him, but Huey, he had a frightened look on his face.
"Maybe some time in solitary confidenment will teach you a lesson." Della told him as she made it to the door.
"W,Wait. Mom!" Huey said.
Della slowly turned to stare at him. Her eyes gleamed brightly. Huey swallowed hard.
Huey didn't know why, but something was wrong. He hated Luis, but something told him that even Luis didn't deserve what he feared might happen in 'solitary confidenment,' their mother wasn't herself.
She would never handle them like this, never threaten Luis, or even uttered the words 'solitary confidenment,' Huey knew Dewey was confused by those words the way his eyebrows arched up, but Huey knew what they meant, he had seen plenty of movies, read plenty of books to know not only do people go crazy in solitary confidement, but also...
Huey couldn't let their Mom do that to Luis. No matter how much he hated him. He was still their brother. He was still Louie.
"Lu -, Louie didn't mean it. H,He just had another nightmare. W,Wanted to sleep with me. He was just, just to embarrassed to say anything." Huey lied and winced. He had just lied for the second time that day, in the same hour.
Della scoffed, then looked down at Luis.
"Nightmares have a way of becoming real," She said finally, letting go of Luis who quickly scrambled towards the bunk beds. "Best to remember that, Lou-Lou." Della cooed at him.
Luis froze and looked back over at Della who's eyes blazed into his.
He got the message loud and clear as she swiftly left the room, slamming the door shut, and locking the door behind her.
Stay out of my way, or I'll become the nightmare.
"That was," Huey said, after a long moment of utter shocked silence, "disturbing. Even for our Mom. She seems, different. Do, Do you think she has the curse too? Luis?"
Luis didn't say anything as he stared out the window. He saw the wereducks slowly edging their way to the mansion. His mind raced as he thought of what to do.
"Luis!" Huey repeated again.
Luis blinked and looked over and up at Huey.
"I, I'm sorry." Luis said, finally.
Both Huey and Dewey stared at Luis. They had never heard him say sorry before in their life. It was weird, and so unlike him.
"Y,You just said -." Dewey stammered.
Luis looked at him blankly as he slowly brought out his cell phone and dialed a number. His stomach bubbled up with guilt as he did.
Protecting them wasn't enough.
Luis knew what he had to do, and he didn't like it. Louie was pratically screaming in his ears not to do it. Pleading with him. Crying for them.
"Hey, Webby." Luis said in a shaky voice into the phone after the second ring.
Dewey's face changed from shock to anger as he slowly climbed out of bed again. Luis backed up as Dewey made his way towards him. Huey quickly scrambled down off the bed again, this time, he was ready to restrain Dewey.
"Can you come in our room? I need a favor." Luis said into the phone.
Dewey stopped coming at him and stared.
"Yeah, it's happening now." Luis whispered. "No, they don't know, that's why I need you in here." He paused and looked sadly at both Huey and Dewey. "and Webbs, bring the kolepesh."
He then turned his phone off.
"Why does Webby have your kolepesh?" Dewey asked.
"What's happening?' Huey wanted to know.
Luis didn't answer as he went to the window and opened it. The cool night breeze felt good on his face. He looked up at the moon, always reminding him of his mother, the day she came home.
"They're coming in fast." Webby said, as she hopped down from the roof and swinging into the window. Luis glanced over at her. Her eyes were gray. Not black. She already turned into her alternate ego. "The one in the rear has it's eyes locked here."
"Yeah. I know." Luis said. "You were right, ya know." Luis said, glancing at her. Webby raised an eyebrow. "They wouldn't do it."
Webby smirked at him.
"Told you. They do actually care about you, about Louie." She told him. She glanced behind him at Dewey and Huey and beamed at them.
"Yeah, Louie." Luis muttered. He stared at Webby who's eyes were now gray, not the original black like they should be. Luis sighed before asking,
"Who are you, excatly?" Luis asked.
Dewey looked back and forth from them, totally confused.
Webby looked over at him, then glanced behind her at Dewey.
What was Luis talking about? This was Webby. Webby Vanderquack. His best friend. Why did Luis as Webby who she was?
Webby looked away from him and smiled at Luis.
"Asha, at your service." Webby replied.
Dewey blinked.
Asha?
Huey's heark sank.
No.
She didn't have the curse. Not Webby. She wasn't even family! But then he pushed that thought aside. Webby was family. She's knowns Scrooge longer then the rest of them put together. Why wouldn't the curse effect her?
"W,Webby?" Dewey finally let out a small squeak.
Webby looked back at him and smiled making Dewey's heart do a back flip. She came slowly over to him and put a hand on his cheek. It was warm and Dewey felt like he'd fall to his knees right there, lost in Webby's smoky gray eyes...
Gray?
No.
Webby's eyes were suppose to be black. Not Gray.
"Submit to me." Webby whispered in his ear.
Dewey did submit by grabbing her face and kissing her. Luis rolled his eyes but Huey saw something in them, he saw hurt, longing, and helplessness.
They pulled away and Webby snickered then pushed Dewey roughly away making him fall backwards onto the ground, in a daze.
"L,Luis." Huey whispered, edging close to him as Webby slowly turned to face him. "W,What just happened. W,Why is Webby looking at me like that?"
"The curse brings out side effects." Luis grumbled as Webby made her way slowly up to Huey. Her eyes never leaving his face. "Our's is the split personality. For her, and anyone not related to the McDuck clan, has something else. Something that's far worse..."
Webby grabbed Huey's face and leaned it close to him, and did the same thing she did to Dewey, said the same thing before she pulled away from him. She didn't push him roughly away from her like she had Dewey. Instead she ruffled the top of his head, in a sisterly manner.
"She has the powers of a fully grown siren." Luis whispered.
Huey and Dewey's eyes glazed over now under Webby's control who smirked at them.
"Could have told me." Luis said, a bit more loudly as Webby smiled at him.
"Just did, didn't I?" Webby shot back. "It'll make this a whole lot eaiser for them being under my control, Luis."
"That's not the problem." Luis replied. "The problem is, after all this is done, are you going to break that control?"
Webby just continued to smile. Her eyes shining brightly at him, and Luis swallowed hard. It was risky for her to do this, he knew, but it was the only way to get them to do anything. How Luis knew she had this power was on sheer dumb luck.
This was Webby's dark side. Her persona because of the curse, and Luis couldn't help but feel that feeling that's been so hard for him to keep. That he can't seem to hold, all because of Louie.
Luis knew if she had it her way, she'd done the same to Luis, but he was immuned to her siren power. His own split personality cancled out the side effect, and since the curse has yet to effect Huey and Dewey...
"To bad I can't do the same to you." Webby snickered at him. "You'd be so much fun to order around..."
"Just, Just focus on the task at hand, Asha." Luis snapped at her.
Webby sighed, disappointed before she leaped onto the edge of the window. Her eyes locked onto the wereduck in the back. Luis's kolpesh held out tightly in her hand at arms length.
Asha was the complete opposite. Demanding, controlling, and way more bold into doing things with out reason or logic. Webby would have thought things through first. But this wasn't Webby right now, right now, it was Asha.
"Huey," Webby barked suddenly.
Huey stood up straight, awaiting command.
"When I say, proclaim your right as the leader of the wereducks." She told him.
"Y,Yes. W,Webby.' Huey replied.
Dewey whimpered slightly. He wanted Webby to give him a command to. She was completly ignoring him for some reason.
Luis knew the reason.
He knew that deep down, Webby didn't want Asha to do anything or cause any harm to Dewey. Much like him and Louie, she and Webby were mentally talking to each other. Webby probably pleading with Asha not to send him into danger.
Luis only wished that Webby felt the same way about him.
