Chapter 22
"Joe!"
Frank was taken completely off guard. His face white as paper, he just stared at his brother.
"Ehm… Glad to see you too, Frank, but would you please be so kind to get up?" Joe asked, a teasing twinkle in his eyes.
"Yes, of course" Still shocked, Frank helped Joe up. He used one moment to try waking up, and when he couldn't, he decided to act if it wasn't a dream, but reality. Still, he wasn't too sure. "Joe, what?! You here? You are in coma and no one know if you will ever wake up again. You are not here. Okay?"
Joe couldn't help but laugh. "Sorry Frank. Hospitals are boring. I escaped. It looks like prisons are boring as well?"
"Ehm, yes." Silence. Frank was so shocked, he felt his head spinning. Forcing himself to think, he suddenly remembered something "Joe! You can't be here! You are sick!"
"No, I am not" Joe answered quickly.
"Yes, you are"
"No, I am not"
"Yes, you are, and besides, this is really childish" Frank confirmed.
"Yes, I agree, but I am not sick. And besides, we have no time to care anyway. Callie could be in danger."
"What?" Frank exclaimed, feeling the weight on his shoulders increase dramatically "How do you know?"
"No time to explain. I fear she have been kidnapped. If not, she is down here with us. We need to find her." Frank nodded, when he remembered the red car that had made him go down here in the first way. Pulling a deep breath, he turned to face Joe "Vanessa too."
"What?" Joe answered quizzically.
"Vanessa is here too. The same goes for her: She is kidnapped or down here with us. We need to find them."
Not wanting to waste more time, Joe just nodded. Frank could see his face turn deadly white, though. There was no way he could make Joe go back to the hospital when he knew his girlfriend could be in danger. But was it safe just to let it go? Didn't he need help?
Remembering how stubborn Joe could be, he decided to follow. Perhaps Vanessa and Callie were in a deadly situation where every minute mattered? He couldn't risk their lives.
Quickly, the two brothers went deeper down in the catacomb. It was hundredth of small shafts, but Frank and Joe decided to follow the biggest one. Both of them were anxious about what could have happened to their girlfriends. Perhaps if they hadn't worried so much about them, they would have asked each other how they arrived and found out there was nothing to worry about. Things didn't really work out that way, though.
Suddenly, Joe stopped. When he didn't move, Frank asked, slightly annoyed "Are you gonna move or should we as well camp here?"
"I smell… something." Joe answered seriously, not caring about Frank's sarcasm.
"Okay, good for you. I smell something too, if you wanna know. Dirt, rottenness… Wait, you are right!" Frank suddenly felt a strange smell. He couldn't place it, but he knew he had smelled it before. Somehow, he just knew it promised bad.
"Let's check it out!" Before Frank managed to utter a word, Joe was swallowed by the dark. He tried to scream at him to get back, but received no answer. Sighing inwardly, Frank followed. They needed to keep together in case something happened.
Suddenly, he heard a scream.
"Joe!" Frank started running, afraid something dreadful had happened. After a few meters in complete darkness, he saw a light further ahead. The contour of a man stood sharply contrasted to the dazzling light.
"Joe!" Frank repeated, when the room itself caught his attention. His face getting white, he understood why Joe had yelled. They had gone straight into the lion's den.

"Mr. Chuck?" The voice asking was deep and brutal.
"Yes Random?"
"How much the clock?" The man called Random looked at Mr. Chuck with eyes full of excitement. The answer came shortly after "10 am. That means we have to hurry. We have one hour to load, and one hour on the drive. We have to be there 12."
Random and the three other men following nodded. They were walking in a narrow catacomb, heading for "The Big One". That was the place where all the drug was stored. Tonight, they were going to deliver ten boxes to different addresses.
After about 400 meters, the smell of drug hit them. Changing direction, Mr. Chuck suddenly stopped. "Wait!" His voice was imperiously. "I think I hear something!"
All five men standing completely still, not a noise could be heard in the dark catacomb. Finally breaking the silence, Mr. Chuck said "Suppose I was wrong. Let's start!"
Walking the last few meters, they soon were standing in "The Big One". A dazzling white light lit up the whole room. Every box of drug was placed neatly in long rows. The boxes were big because the criminals filled them up with old cloths in case anyone should get on the thought to inspect them. A truck was placed in the corner of the big cave. Mr. Chuck and his aides started placing the boxes in the big vehicle.
After working a few minutes in silence, one of the other men started speaking "Mr. Chuck? Ehm… I just wondered, you know, this revenge. The Hardy's. What did they do to you?"
Mr. Chuck grunted. "You wanna know what they did to me? I don't like talking about it, but... Okay, as you wish. I will tell you."
"As you perhaps know, I was released from prison six months ago. I had been in prison ten years before that. And it was Fenton that locked me up."
"When I was 18, I was a part of our "family-business". We sold drugs, just like us. No need to say it was illegal. Anyway: It didn't go too well. We had some customers, but not many. Then, one day, an anonymous person told us he wanted 30 boxes. We were really existed, because that meant a big boost for our "company".
"We agreed that I should accept the payment, while the rest of my family placed the boxes in the man's house. To make it safer for us all, our customer and I met in a park. When I showed up, police cars and this rat named Fenton Hardy waited for me. It was a trap. They sent me directly to prison."
"What made the whole thig a lot more fatal, was they didn't know about my family. When I didn't arrive, they waited for me about an hour. When someone showed up, it wasn't me, but one of the rival gangs. They… they were all killed. And they died believing I went away with the money – and told our enemies where to find them."
"The guilt was unbearable. Ten years of my life has been nothing but misery. I hate Fenton. I hate him more than I love my own life. I hate his sons. I hate Frank…"
"They got away from me this time, but I won't give up. Never, ever. I am going to chase them until I find them. I am going to kill them. All of them. Without mercy. Never anymore mercy…"
Mr. Chuck stared out in nothing, his crimson eyes burning. So absorbed in his own thoughts he didn't even notice, he dumped down on one of the boxes. What he most certainly didn't know, was that inside that box, where the two he wanted so much to kill.
Frank and Joe Hardy.
