Part 20
Two years later
Caitlin snuggled closer to the man in bed with her. She smiled as she felt kisses on the back of her neck. She rolled over and smiled at her best friend of fifteen years and boyfriend of two.
"Bare, as much as I would love to spend the day in bed with you. We can't we both have classes." Said Caitlin
"I know. Besides we used the last of the condoms last night. Cait, I know you are on birth control. But I also know that you want to be double safe." Said Barry
"We had like four!"
"Do you even remember last night?"
"Oh my god! We did that four times!"
"Yeah. But you are the sexist woman I know."
"You are the sexiest man. You go start breakfast while I go shower."
Caitlin kissed Barry grabbed his discarded shirt pulled it on as she headed to the bathroom to shower. Barry watched her go with a big smile on his face. He then pulled on his boxers and headed to the kitchen of their apartment. It was only a half mile from the CCU campus. In fact most of the residents of the building were students. Barry started the coffee maker with the dark roast that Caitlin liked. While grabbing the eggs, cheese, ham, mushrooms, onion and green pepper to make omelets. He also pulled out the low fat vanilla creamer placing it on the counter by the coffee maker. Caitlin walked into the kitchen dressed in jeans and a CCU hoodie.
"Good you made coffee." Said Caitlin
"Remember when we were eight and snuck coffee behind my mom's back?"
"Of course it was the worst thing I had ever tasted. Which is ironic because we ate those rock hard brownies Iris made when we were thirteen."
"Yeah. But now we can't get through some of those all night study sessions without coffee."
"True. Barry, you realize that I am one semester away from completing my undergrad degree. I already got into medical school."
"I am just glad it is her at CCU."
"Me too."
"Cait, you know I am proud of you."
"I know."
"My genius girlfriend that is going to complete college in two and a half years."
"Well I did take summer classes and with my AP classes in high school I took care of like all of my general required classes as well as two of the ones for my degree."
"Yet you always made time for me and the rest of our friends."
"Barry, you are important to me. Of course I want to spend time with you. We like the same things. You don't care if we just stay home and watch Netflix as long as we are together."
"Cait, I love you. As long as you are with me I would be happy camping in a snow storm."
"That is never going to happen. I hate snow."
Barry started to laugh.
"What is so funny Mr. Allen?"
"That you hate snow when your last name is literally Snow."
"Well maybe one day my last name will no longer be Snow. Maybe one day it I will be the next Dr. Allen."
"I would love that. But we agreed that we were going to wait to even think about getting married until you have at least finished medical school."
"I know. I am so grateful that you want this for me. But it also gives you the chance to finish school and get a job."
"Yeah I know. I promise that when the time is right we will get married. My mom already has a gift to give you on our wedding day."
"Why did she already buy a wedding gift? You haven't even asked me to marry you yet."
"She didn't buy it. It's a neckless that has sort of become the official welcome to the Allen gift to the newest Allen woman. My mom was the fourth one to be given it. My great, great, great grandfather gave it to his bride on their wedding day. He saved for like three years to be able to buy it. She then gave it to her son's bride and so on."
"So when we have a son that gets married I will be expected to hand it down to his bride."
"Yeah."
"Well we won't want to disappoint your mom."
"True. She really loves you. She was so happy when we finally came to our senses and got together."
"I know. You should know the last e-mail I got from my mom had a link to a wedding website. I think that she is hinting that you should make an honest woman out of me as the old saying goes."
"We have been together only two years."
"But we have been building to this relationship for fifteen years."
"I know. But you want to finish medical school before we get married."
"We could go for a long engagement to get everyone off our backs."
"Well let's just think about it for now. Now I believe that you have a class to get to."
"So do you Mr. Allen."
"You are so right Miss Snow."
They cleaned up the kitchen grabbed their books and headed for campus. They kissed and headed their separate ways. Caitlin reach the lab her class was in only to find Alex locked in a lip lock with Kelly outside the door. Alex was in this lab with her. Caitlin smiled happy that her close friend had found someone to love.
"Um Alex you do know that class starts in like two minutes. Dr. Kline will mark you down if you aren't on time." Said Caitlin
Alex and Kelly broke apart said their goodbyes and Kelly headed for the library to work on a paper for one of her classes in psychology.
"Thanks Caitlin. Last thing I need is for Dr. Kline to mark me down again. That man hates me enough as it is." Said Alex
"I actually don't think he hates you. I think it's just that you and I piss him off because we are smarter then he is. He hates that having a couple of young women tell him he is wrong about anything."
"Maybe you are right. Let's go in before he marks us both down."
