The events of Avatar: The Last Airbender from a different perspective, that of a firebender who accompanies Prince Zuko and General Iroh on their initial quest to capture the Avatar. I intend to have the first story align with the events of the first book, and the second with the second book, etc, and a potential LoK sequel. Rated T for violence and mature content.

Hello, folks. I just read through the entirety of this fan fiction in order for the first time since writing it, possibly for the first time April 25th, it will be 5 years since the last update. A whole lot has changed in 5 years; I graduated high school, went to college, got a job, etc. I am a very different person now, and my writing style has changed quite a bit, amongst other things. But I still enjoy creative writing, and I still quite like the A:TLA universe.

I never really expected to update this again, or even read it. For a while, I was ashamed of it, both because of the general social stigma against fanfic as a whole and because it was unfinished, and never reached (what I considered to be) a satisfying conclusion. Writer's block, then finals, then apathy set in, and I never touched it again, as many FF writers do. That said, it holds up, kinda. The writing isn't great and the structure is choppy, but the story is fun. It seems there are at least a couple people who agree, based on the comments and the traffic data.

There are a few story decisions I regret; the narrator's grandson b-plot/framing device is a bit clunky, and I think Solus learned to bend lightning too easily. The latter I am considering retconning, so if you have an opinion on that let me know via comments or pm.

But, I digress. The point of this is to state this: I am working on proper new chapters for this story. I've been feeling rather creative lately, and between that and rewatching A:TLA I decided to re-read this and finish it once and for all. I don't intend to post this update until I have a rough draft for the first chapter at the very least, so you can expect that soon. I intend to follow the same plot as best I can, but I neglected to do any sort of planning/plot outlines when I first wrote this so it will likely be different than it otherwise would be. That said, I remember nothing of what I planned for the narrator/side plot (with Korra). I may drop it, or slightly adapt it. I had planned a sequel fanfic that would take place fully during TLoK, which I started and never finished on a different account in October 2015. I would like to finish it at some point as well, but considering how long it has taken me to return to this story I do not expect that to happen any time soon. Regardless, if you're looking for something to read between now and the next chapter releasing, you may enjoy that.
