Chapter 19: Captivity

"But how is this possible?" I asked, staring at Ouranos's dying body. "We're in the air, and primordials are invincible in their domains! Ouranos shouldn't have been able to die!"

Mom answered, "Percy, that trident had the power of Chaos in it," pointing at my pendant (I was too tired to keep it in trident form). "Ouranos stood no chance."

"But this can't be the end, can it? Chaos told me I would need to sacrifice something for the knowledge about the trident, and I didn't really sacrifice anything. Besides, the prophecies are still incomplete. No one was lost, you didn't reveal any causes, nor was there any general… " Then I realized what I had failed to recognize at first.

"Of course," Leo said sadly. "Ouranos was just a general, wasn't he? He was the one who died in his own domain. There are more challenges to come."

"But if Ouranos, one of the strongest primordials, was just a general, who could their leader be?" Thalia asked.

"Perhaps it would be someone older and wiser than Ouranos ever was?" A deep voice proclaimed from the back of the room.

I turned around and immediately recognized the imposing figure: Oceanus.

"But you're not older than Ouranos!" Thalia said. "You're his son!"

"Yes, of course. But it is actually my father's elder brother Pontus of whom I speak," Oceanus replied immediately with a smirk. "He, unlike your friend Percy's father Poseidon, is the true lord of the sea. And I think I'll be enough to take you to his domain. You think you can create a hurricane, son of Poseidon? This is what you call a true storm." He concentrated, and immediately the sound of thunder started. High-intensity winds began, and rain started pouring all over the room. Lightning flashed at random intervals. He pointed toward one of the windows, and a lightning bolt hit it, blasting it to pieces. He concentrated again, and the winds started pushing us toward the window he had just broken. We were flown out the window, and he followed, controlling the winds so that he could fly effortlessly and control where we went. I recognized the city below us. There was a huge bay and ships, islands and sailboats, and the Golden Gate Bridge sticking up out of the fog: San Francisco. We were going to the North Pacific Ocean.

"You have brought the demigods, Oceanus?" Pontus said. We were enclosed within a huge bubble of air that stretched for several miles.

"Of course. But there is bad news, my lord. Ouranos is dead," Oceanus responded.

"My messengers have already told me this. I wasn't expecting it, but our plan is still in motion, right?"

Oceanus nodded.

"This is sad news, but it will not change our cause." Pontus replied. "Put the demigods in cells. Separate ones."

Oceanus motioned servants to follow Pontus's directions. We were dragged along and placed in separate stone cells. I tugged and tried slicing with Nico's sword, which I still had. It had no effect, as the bars were probably enchanted not to open. But luckily, Oceanus hadn't realized that I had killed Ouranos using a trident, because it had already turned back into a pendant. Once the servants left, I turned the pendant back into a trident and tried sawing at the bars. Immediately, it cut through. However, I knew that Oceanus and Pontus would immediately know that I had escaped due to my heritage as a son of the sea. They would sense me in a matter of seconds. Even Nico, Thalia, and Leo could probably be sensed. This left only one option…
