Team RRWBY was looking in shock and confusion at their hyperactive history teacher standing in front of them in expedition gear.
Weiss was the first one to get out of her confusion and said "Professor Oobleck?"
Ignoring the confusion of his students, Oobleck took a quick look at his students and began to ramble on "Yes, I'm afraid those bags won't be necessary girls, seeing as you've opted to shadow a huntsman on what is now essentially a reconnaissance mission."
"I can assure you, we will not be establishing a single base of operations; rather we will be traversing several miles of hazardous wasteland and making camp in any defendable locations we may stumble upon."
"I packed all of our essentials myself, plotted our air course and readied the airship. And..." Said Doctor Oobleck as he zoomed towards Weiss and exclaimed "It's Doctor Oobleck. I didn't earn the PhD for fun, thank you very much!"
"Uh..." Was all that Weiss was able to mumble in shock.
"Now any questions?" asked Doctor Oobleck.
"I have one, who is the person standing near the airship?" asked Rock as he pointed towards the man standing next to the airship.
"Oh right him, this man is David Snake. One of the most proficient huntsman in all of remnant, and due to the Grimm activity in that area he will be joining us for this mission. Any other questions?" Doctor Oobleck asked, at the answer Rock could only look at the huntsman in confusion.
When he received no answer he said "Come now, children; according to my schedule we are already three minutes behind schedule!" After which he runs off to the airship.
"Well, alright then! Looks like we're going to save the world with Doctor Ooooobleck- okay yeah when you say it out loud it sounds worse." said Ruby as the realization set in for her.
Team JNPR, walks up to the team and having heard what Ruby had just said, Nora exclaims "Save the world? You're going on world-saving missions without is? I'm hurt... sad!"
Nora's stomach then rumbles and she adds "Maybe a little hungry? that last one's not your fault, though, Ren..."
The last part of her ramblings make Ren then around in a huff.
Jaune ignoring his teammate asks "Sounds exiting, where ya going?"
"Oh, just outside of the kingdom." said Ruby.
"Hey! So are we!" Exclaimed Nora in excitement.
"Ren and Nora wanted to shadow the sheriff of a nearby village." said Pyrrha.
"We set out tomorrow." said Ren.
"Then you can party with us tonight!" Exclaimed Neptune, as he and Sun approached the group and added "We're shadowing a crime specialist. All inner-city detective stuff, we get junior badges."
Neptune and Sun show off their badges, leaving Jaune awestruck, Sun then added "we normally go to the city with you guys, which means stuff's always exploding and junk, so we thought this might be a better way to check out the kingdom when it's, you know... normal."
"Well-" said Ruby, only to be interrupted by Doctor Oobleck.
"Four minutes, everyone!" He exclaims before zipping back to the airship.
"Well, uh... Wish us luck!" said Ruby. As Yang, Blake and Weiss made their way to the airship.
"Is Rock going to be ok?" asked Pyrrha.
"Yes, I don't know why he wouldn't be." said Ruby.
"He looks lost or confused." said Ren.
Ruby then looked over to Rock and saw that he looked like he had no idea where he was at the moment. She then snapped her fingers in front of him, snapping him out of his trance. She then asked "Are you alright?"
Having been snapped back into reality, Rock replied with "Yeah I'm fine, why do you ask?"
"You seemed a bit out of it." said Ruby.
"Maybe it's just some nerves. I'm fine now." said Rock.
"If you say so." said Ruby in an unconvinced tone. The two then made their way onto the airship as they waved goodbye to their friends.
Later
The airship had been flying for nearly an hour and the silence was deafening. To combat this Doctor Oobleck spoke up "What's wrong students, you seem surprise that I'm going to be leading this investigation."
"I guess I just never saw you as much of a fighter." Replied Yang.
"I admit I fancy myself more of an intellectual, but I can assure you, as a huntsman, I've had my fair share of tussles." said Doctor Oobleck.
"Like the mushroom?" asked Ruby in confusion.
"Those are truffles." said Blake.
"Like the sprout?" Asked Ruby in confusion.
"Those are Brussel." said Yang.
"Like the clam?" asked Ruby.
"Those are mussels." said Weiss.
"Like the thing you train in a gym?" asked Ruby.
"Those are muscles." said Rock.
"Ruby are you doing this on purpose?" asked Yang.
"Maybe!" said Ruby, as she put a smirk on her face.
Doctor Oobleck, ignoring Ruby's childishness, added "Besides, given my expertise in the field of history as well as my dabbling in the archaeological surveys, our dear headmaster saw fit to assign me to this particular... assignment."
"What does history have to do with this?" asked Weiss.
"Why, what a preposterous question, you silly girl! Why, history is the backbone of our very society! And the liver! Probably the kidneys, if I were to wager." Exclaimed Doctor Oobleck.
"And that means?" Asked Weiss in confusion.
"The southeast quadrant outside of Vale is home to wild forests and deep caves, but it is also the location to one of the kingdoms greatest failures!" exclaimed Doctor Oobleck.
"Mountain Glenn." said Ruby somberly.
"That's right! It was an expansion of Vale... but in the end it was overrun by Grimm and fenced off from the rest of the city." said Yang.
"Correct! And now it stand abandoned as a dark reminder." said Doctor Oobleck.
"And a likely place for a hideout." said Blake.
"Precisely." said Doctor Oobleck as he readjusts his glasses.
The flight to the southeast quadrant then continued on in silence, with each person doing their own thing. Ruby, getting tired of standing, decided to sit down next to Rock. Remembering their conversation from earlier, she asked "Rock, are you sure you're alright. You kind of shut down the moment we arrived at the airship."
Rock thought for a bit before replying "You know the huntsman who's joining us?"
"The one with the weird last name, and who is covered from head to toe with weapons?" asked Ruby, to which Rock nodded. After which she added "What about him?"
"I get the feeling that I've met him before." said Rock.
"What do you mean?" asked Ruby.
Rock hesitated with his answer, but then whispered in his reply "Promise me you won't tell this to anyone else."
"I promise, you can trust me." whispered Ruby.
"So for the last couple of weeks I've been having dreams about floating hands, a cliff, and light beams of death. Almost as if I came from a different world before being born here." whispered Rock.
"Ok, say that is true. Say that those dreams are memories of a past life. How is it possible that someone you've never met before in your life gives you the feeling of deja vu?" whispered Ruby.
"I don't know, I just... I just feel like I have met him before. I just don't know where or when." Whispered Rock.
"Maybe try to figure it out." whispered Ruby.
"I don't know how to, I mean I could ask him. Then again he doesn't seem very approachable." whispered Rock.
"I'm sure you'll figure it out." whispered Ruby, comforting Rock for a bit.
"You are taking this surprisingly well." whispered Rock.
"Rock, we live in a world where there are monsters around every corner, we train to beat those monsters in school, you are a sentient robot and one of our teammates is half cat. There isn't much that can surprise me anymore." whispered Ruby.
"Thanks Ruby, that does help." whispered Rock.
"You're welcome, try not to let it hinder our mission." said Ruby as she stood up and began to walk away.
"Don't worry I won't." said Rock, as he was left alone with his thoughts.
A while later the airship had arrived at it's destination, Yang, Weiss, Ruby, Blake and Doctor Oobleck had already gotten off the airship. Rock was about to follow them when he was stopped by a hand on his shoulder. He turned around and saw that the huntsman that was joining them had stopped him.
"Mr Snake, is something wrong?" asked Rock in confusion.
"Listen to me kid, and listen clearly cause I'm only going to say this once. When that teacher assigns teams for exploration in this godforsaken city, you come to me immediately. Understood?" Asked the gruff yet demanding voice of the huntsman.
"I understand, may I ask why?" asked Rock with a nervous tone in his voice.
"We have something to talk about." said the man as he made his way over to the airship. He then turned to Rock and added "You better get off the airship, you don't want to miss the introductions."
Rock nodded and followed the man off the airship. After a while they caught up with rest, once they did so Doctor Oobleck called out for attention.
"Students! You still may be in school training to be hunters and huntresses, but as of this moment, you first mission has begun! From this point forward you need to do exactly as I say! Do you understand?" he asked, making Team RRWBY nod in response. He then focused his attention on Ruby and exclaimed "Ruby! I thought I told you to leave all you bags back at school!"
"But, uh, you hadn't told us to listen to you ye. So I didn't." said Ruby.
"You're not wrong, very well then. Ruby; leave your bag here, we can pick it up upon our return." said Doctor Oobleck.
"But I, well uh-"Stammered Ruby, trying to find an excuse to keep her bag with her.
"Young lady, what in the world could you possibly have in that bag that could be so important to bring it with..." Exclaimed Doctor Oobleck, only to be stopped when Zwei popped his head out of Ruby's bag.
"Get back in the bag!" Whispered Ruby, only for Zwei bark in response.
"We're here to investigate an abandoned urban jungle teeming with death and hostility, and you brought... a dog?" asked Doctor Oobleck.
"I, uh..." stammered Ruby, but then Doctor Oobleck grabbed Zwei from the bag and began to spin around.
"Genius! Canines are historically known for their perceptive nose and heightened sense of sound, making them excellent companions for a hunt such as ours!" He exclaimed as he kept spinning around.
"I'm a genius!" Exclaimed Ruby in pride and excitement, causing Yang and Weiss to facepalm.
"Does that mean that Ruby can keep her dog here?" asked Rock.
"She can, I'm fairly certain that he'll be able to help us." said Doctor Oobleck.
"Well, if that's the case..." said Rock as he stood still for a bit, and then Rush, Tango and Beat were summoned.
"Excellent, more animals to help us out with this." said Doctor Oobleck.
"So what are your order, Doctor?" asked Blake.
"Ah yes, straight to the chase. I like it!" said Doctor Oobleck, as he lets go of Zwei who then joins the other animals. He then adds "As you've been informed, the southeast area has been marked as a recent hot spot for Grimm activity. Now, there are several possible explanations for this behavior, one of which being... Grimm."
"Uh, what?" asked Ruby in confusion.
"Grimm. A creature of Grimm approximately one hundred yards from us at this very moment." said Doctor Oobleck.
"What!" Exclaimed Yang as she and the rest of the team turns around to see a single Beowolf wandering around in the street.
They were about to activate their weapons to fight the Grimm, only to be stopped by Doctor Oobleck "Stop!"
"Huh?" asked Blake in confusion as she lowers her weapon.
"There are a number of reasons why Grimm will congregate in this particular area, the most likely of which will be their attraction to negativity. Sadness, envy, loneliness, hatred. All qualities that are likely held by our hiddem group harboring ill intent." said Doctor Oobleck.
"So what now?" asked Ruby.
"We wait, we track. If this specimen leads us to its pack, that pack may subsequently lead us to our prey." said Doctor Oobleck.
"How long do we wait?' asked Blake.
"It's uncertain. Hours, days, weeks. Why lone Grimm have been known to stay isolated from the pack for months." said Doctor Oobleck, he then saw that more Beowolves started following the first one. He then added "And there's the whole pack."
"What!" Exclaimed Weiss in shock, as she saw the group of Beowolves. Which then turned their focus on the group.
"And now they've seen us." said Doctor Oobleck.
"What!" Screamed Weiss.
"AND NOW THEY'VE SEEN US!" Doctor Oobleck yelled back.
"I take it tracking them is out of the question?" asked Ruby.
"An accurate assumption, yes." said Doctor Oobleck.
"What's then plan, then?" asked Yang.
"Do we fight them?" asked Rock as he turned his right hand into it's buster form.
"Yes, show me what you're capable of." said Doctor Oobleck.
Ruby takes out Crescent Rose, and aims it at the Grimm. "Cover you ears, Zwei!"
"Rush, Beat, Tango stay with Zwei." said Rock.
The corgi then covered it's ears, but was then scooped into the air by rush who had turned into his jet form. Zwei was now with Beat and Tango on a floating Rush looking at the fight against the Grimm.
The Beowolves charge at the group, Yang runs towards one of them and gets ready to fight the Grimm. The Beowolf tries to swipe at Yang, she manages to dodge the swipes and then finds an opening. Yang then unleashes a flurry of punches with her gauntlets. After which she uses the shotgun within her gauntlets to punch through the beowolf, causing it to turn to dust.
A group of Beowolves goes after Blake, and seem to get her cornered. Blake holds onto the hilt of her blade and waits for the right opportunity. One of the Beowolves swipes at her, only for it to hit a shadow clone. The real Blake then comes in and uses her blade to slice the group of Beowolves in half, turning them to dust.
Weiss is fighting against several Beowolves, and uses her rapier to swipe at the creatures of Grimm. Which knocks them backwards, which gives her the chance to use the ice dust in her rapier. The ice dust then creates ice pillars from the ground, which impales the Beowolves turning them to dust.
Ruby in the meantime is using her semblance to slice a dozen Beowolves to pieces at super speed. Another Beowolf tries to slice at her from behind, only to be sliced in half by using her quick reaction speed to swing her scythe before they could attack.
Three beowolves remained, and they were focusing attention on Rock. The others where about intervene, but were then stopped by Doctor Oobleck. They then saw that Rock was charging his buster, but was about to be put into a corner. One of the beowolves was about to slice at Rock, only for him to slide underneath the three beowolves. Who were then confused as to where their prey had gone, Rock then fired a charged shot which penetrated the three beowolves and after which they turned to dust.
"Heh, piece of cake!" Exclaimed Ruby.
"Do not celebrate yet, for I am certain this is the first bout of many. Shall we continue?" asked Doctor Oobleck.
"Come on, cut us some slack. We took out several dozen Grimm!" Exclaimed Ruby.
"Word of the wise kid, don't get cocky. Especially not in an area like this one." said Snake, to which Ruby nodded. The group then continued on in their hunt for the Grimm.
Later
A while later the group managed to take down another batch of Grimm, and Doctor Oobleck looked at the now tired Team RRWBY. "Excellent work students! unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any signs of criminal operation in this sector. Oh, well! Moving on!" Said Doctor Oobleck as they started to move towards another part of the city.
While they made their way over to a different area, the group fights of more Grimm. Yang then looks at Doctor Oobleck and asks "Hey, doc, you know I was actually looking forward to seeing a 'pro Huntsman' in action. Like, fighting, or at least, helping us fight."
Doctor Oobleck was looking at the ruins of the city and then replied "Ah, but I am in action! Scouring the ruins of this once great city for any signs of irregularity." He then turned to Yang and added "Not every mission is filled with daring and heroism. Sometimes it's just a heightened form of extermination! Remember this is a job, and you all signed up for it. I do hope you understand that."
Yang thought about it for a bit and then replied "Well, yeah... O-of course!" In an uncertain tone.
"Hmmm." Murmured Doctor Oobleck as he looked at Team RRWBY fighting against the Grimm.
A bit later Doctor Oobleck was able to catch up with Yang again, while she was fighting against more Grimm. He then said "Tell me, Yang. Why did you choose this line of work?"
"Huh?" asked Yang pausing for a bit, she then added in an uncomfortable tone "Well, to fight monsters and save-"
"No, that is what you do. I want to know why you do it. The honest reason as to why you want to be a huntress." said Doctor Oobleck, cutting off Yang's answer.
Yang thinks for a bit and then replies "The honest reason? I'm a thrill seeker, I want to travel around the world and get wrapped up in as many crazy adventures as I can. And if I help people along the way, then that's even better. It's a win-win you know?"
"Hmmm, I see." Said Doctor Oobleck.
A bit later Doctor Oobleck catches up with Weiss who had just impaled another beowolf with a giant icicle and says "And you, Miss Schnee? A girl born into fame and fortune such as yourself certainly doesn't need the extra work. So... why choose this over a cushy job in Atlas?"
"It's exactly as you said, I'm a Schnee. I have a legacy of honor to uphold. Once I realized I was capable of fighting, there was no longer a question of what I would do with my life. It was my duty." said Weiss.
"Interesting." said Doctor Oobleck as he nodded his head.
Later Doctor Oobleck catches up with Blake, who had just sliced a swarm of small Nevermores into pieces and then asks "And what about you, Blake? You seem to carry yourself with a sense of purpose."
"There's too much wrong in this world to just stand by and do nothing. Inequality, corruption... Someone has to stop it." replied Blake.
"Very well, how?" asked Doctor Oobleck.
"I, uh..." Blake was about to say, only to be stumped when she couldn't think of anything."
Doctor Oobleck then Hmmm'd to himself and then dashed away.
A bit later Doctor Oobleck caught up with Rock, who had just blasted through another beowolf with his buster.
"Rock, over the years I have heard about your exploits. I always wondered, what made you do that?" asked Doctor Oobleck.
"I don't know what your talking about." said Rock.
"I think you do, why do you fight?" asked Doctor Oobleck.
"Because it is the right thing to do, Dr Wily stole my dad's work and used it for evil. He tried to use my dad's work to take over Remnant, can you imagine how broken he looked when that happened?" asked Rock.
"I couldn't just not do something about it, my sense of justice was too strong to let him get away with it." said Rock.
"I see, but what is going to happen afterwards? What is going to happen to you after you finally reach your goal, do you keep fighting to save people from Grimm or do you become decommissioned?" asked Doctor Oobleck.
"I... I don't know." said Rock, becoming uncertain about his own goals.
"Think about what you want your future to be." said Doctor Oobleck as he dashed away, leaving Rock alone to think about what he had been asked.
Back at Beacon, Auto's lab
Auto was working in his lab, fixing a bazooka that needed fixing. But then his attention is taken away when he hears a knock on the door, he goes to the door and opens it. When he looks outside he sees that Team CFVY is standing outside.
"Can I help you four?" asked Auto.
"Yeah... Uhm, if you don't mind we would like-" Velvet tried to said, only to be interrupted by Coco.
"We would like to fix our weapons." said Coco.
"Isn't it a bit late for that?" asked Auto as he looked at his clipboard.
"Yeah, we had an appointment with you a couple of days ago. But our mission ran late." Said Fox.
"You did..." Said Auto as he saw Team CFVY on his clipboard "Oh right, you did. Come in."
Team CFVY then entered the lab, and placed their weapons on the table. Auto walked over to them and asked "You know how to work on your weapons right?"
"We do." said Yatsuhashi.
"Good, can I get you anything to drink?" asked Auto.
"No thanks, we're good." said Coco.
"Alright, I'll leave you to it." said Auto.
After that Auto and Team CFVY began to work on their weapons. After a while Velvet looked over to Auto working on his bazooka, she then made her way over to him and asked "Excuse me, can I ask. What is this?"
"This, is a bazooka. My bazooka, one that I use to help Rock take down the doctor's forces when he is in a bind." said Auto.
"May I?" asked Velvet as she grabbed her camera.
"Sure, what are you going to do with that?" asked Auto.
"This camera, with my semblance allows me to copy others weapons." said Velvet.
"Oh, so you're like Rock." said Auto.
"Not really, it is only temporary." said Velvet.
"Well in that case go ahead." said Auto.
"Thanks for your help." said Velvet, as she used her camera to take a picture of the weapon.
"You're welcome." said Auto.
Velvet then went back to her station and joined her team in improving and fixing their weapons. Auto and Team CFVY then continued working on their items in silence.
Later, back in the abandoned city
The team had been fighting off Grimm for a couple of hours and it was getting close to sunset. Ruby was walking through one of the abandoned buildings, being followed by Zwei who was enjoying the view sitting on Rush in his jet form.
She then bumps into Doctor Oobleck, who was taking notes on her performance. She walks up to him and asks "Sorry! Uh... Are we ready to keep going?"
"Nope! I believe that will have to do for today. It's going to be dark soon." said Doctor Oobleck as he threw his bag towards Yang, who catches it and puts it down on their campsite.
"You three, set up camp in this room. Oh, and please do make sure there are no more of those... creatures. Rock, you and Snake are going to be gathering firewood. Your leader and I are to going to secure the perimeter. Come, Ruby."
Doctor Oobleck and Ruby then walk away from the group, while Rock and Snake went towards a different direction to look for firewood. Zwei, Rush, Beat and Tango in the meantime stayed at the camp.
Doctor Oobleck and Ruby began to look around the perimeter, and after a while of securing the area Rubys gets stopped. "Huh, what's going on?" she asks, Ruby then looks on as she sees that her teacher is pointing towards a herd of giant elephant Grimm through an opening in a wall. "What are those things? They look awesome!" Ruby exclaimed in excitement.
"That my dear girl, is a Grimm." said Doctor Oobleck.
Ruby gets her scythe ready and exclaims "Let's kill it!"
"I'm afraid your sniper rifle will do nothing more than agitate a Grimm of that size." said Doctor Oobleck.
"But... what if it attacks us?" asked Ruby.
"Fret not Ruby, those Goliaths are not concerned with us. Ruby, not every Grimm is mindless, or rather not every Grimm is still mindless. You see, the Grimm you see before you are so powerful, so superior to the Grimm you fought, that they've undoubtedly lived hundreds of years, and in the time between killing humans and attacking our borders, they have done one important thing, they've learned. They've learned that when they attack our borders, they're likely to die, and what we lack in strength, we make up for in will, and that killing one human will only bring more." said Doctor Oobleck.
Ruby looks at the herd and sees that the Grimm had spotted them. She turns to her history teacher and asks "Then why are they still so close to the city? What are they doing?"
"Waiting." said Doctor Oobleck.
Ruby then looks on as the Grimm continue to move forward, not bothering to mess with the humans in the abandoned city. Doctor Oobleck then begins to walk away from the opening, Ruby then follows her teacher and says "Doctor Oobleck?"
"Hmmm?" Replied Doctor Oobleck.
"I was wondering..." said Ruby.
"Wondering why I've been interrogating your teammates all day?" asked Doctor Oobleck.
"Actually, I was wondering ... Why did you want to become a huntsman?" Asked Ruby.
"Look around and tell me what you see." said Doctor Oobleck.
Ruby looks around her surroundings and replies "Lots of old buildings, and uh, empty streets." said Ruby.
"I see lives that could have been saved. As a huntsman, it is my job to protect the people, and although I am capable of doing it with traditional weaponry, I believe I can make a much larger impact if I do it with my mind."
"As a teacher, I'm able to take knowledge, the most powerful weapon of them all, and place it in the hands of every students that passes through my classroom. I look at this wasteland, and I see lives that could have been saved, but I also seen an opportunity, an opportunity to study these ruins and learn from this tragedy, and therefore become stronger."
"I am a huntsman, Ruby, because there is nothing else in this world I would rather be." said Doctor Oobleck, after which he and Ruby continued on with their check around the perimeter.
With Rock and Snake
The two had made their way over to one of the abandoned buildings and had entered it, after a while they made their way over to a storage room and found several logs of wood. Rock was about to grab them and head out, when he got stopped by Snake.
"We're not leaving just yet." said Snake.
"Why is that?" asked Rock.
"Cause we're going to have a little chat, now tell me. Mega Man what do you remember?" asked Snake.
"Remember, about what?" asked Rock, feeling nervous as he knew that Snake was staring into his soul.
"Don't test my patience kid, you and the others were always really bad at lying." said Snake.
"Others?" asked Rock.
"Yeah, you and the other children and teens living in the mansion. Now tell me, what do remember?" asked Snake, beginning to lose his patience.
"Did that mansion you speak off, have floating hands in it?" asked Rock.
"You remember Master Hand and Crazy Hand!" Exclaimed Snake in surprise.
"Kind of, one of them has been visiting me in my dreams telling me to find the others. Then I get a dream where I'm on a cliff and then everyone dies from beams of light and that is the only thing I know about." said Rock.
Snake stayed silent for a bit, thinking about what Rock had told him. After a while he replied with "Rock, neither of us came from this world originally. We each came from different versions of a place called earth to fight in a tournament."
"What happened?" asked Rock.
"The event your described was known as the World of Light event, unfortunately after we took out the two beings responsible for it they exploded and we all died. I then woke up in Remnant, with memories of the old world and of my life here. I've been searching for the others ever since that moment, then a couple of months ago I felt a shift and suddenly Remnant changed. My version of Remnant merged with your version of Remnant, and now I'm living in a remnant in which you have been fighting Dr. Wily for years." Said Snake.
"That's weird... I lived a previous life, in a different world how is that even possible?" asked Rock.
"I know this must feel weird, but trust me you will understand this eventually." said Snake.
"I will?" asked Rock
"Yes, now we should get back to collecting wood." said Snake.
"But wait a minute, I felt something similar yesterday to what you felt months ago. A sudden shift, as if something changed that only I could feel." Said Rock.
"Then I guess other people who were a part of the tournament have now appeared in Remnant." said Snake.
"So what do we do now?" asked Rock.
"We keep this between us, at least until we know more and we can find a solution. Although it is good that your beginning to accept this. " said Snake "Now lets bring the wood back to camp."
Rock nodded and then began to help by grabbing the wood, the two were about to head out until Rock spoke up "Wait, what about all the stuff from your world. What happened to that?"
Snake turned to Rock and replied with "I honestly have no idea, it might just be lost forever and if you remember what my world was like maybe it's for the best that all that stuff got lost. Now let's bring the firewood to camp."
The two then left the abandoned house and made their way back to the camp.
Later at the campsite
Rock and Snake had returned from gathering fire wood, and had managed to get a fire started.
Snake then went off of to do his own thing, leaving Rock alone with Yang, Weiss and Blake.
"I can't believe we didn't find anything." said Yang.
"We've always been fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. I guess we can't always have luck on our side." said Blake.
"You're right, besides. It's only day one, who knows what we might find later this week." said Rock.
"That's not what I meant." said Weiss, changing the topic.
"Huh?" asked Blake.
"Earlier, about upholding the legacy. There're more to it than that." said Weiss.
"Yeah... No, me too. I mean... I don't know." Said Yang.
"I don't know either. I know what I want to do, but I figured I'd always take things one step at a time." said Blake.
"Same, he opened my eyes. I need to think more about what I want in the future." said Rock.
The four of them stare at the fire in silence, but that silence is broken when Doctor Oobleck comes dashing into the area followed by Ruby. He looks at the fire and exclaims "Ah, wonderful. A textbook campfire!"
"Fire!" exclaims Ruby as she rushes over to it and begins to warm herself with it "So warm."
"Very good! Eat your dinner and hurry to bed. We have a lot of ground to cover tomorrow and we'll need you to take turns keeping watch over our temporary abode. Any volunteers for first watch?" asked Doctor Oobleck.
"I'll do it." said Ruby.
"Excellent." said Doctor Oobleck, he then dashes off to a different room in the camp.
Ruby was about to head to a lookout point, when she got stopped by Yang who asked "Hey, did Oobleck asked you why you wanted to be a huntress? I mean... What did you tell him?"
"Hmm... No he didn't. Weird, oh well. Good night guys." said Ruby, Yang was disappointed by the answer. Ruby then made her way to a different room to keep watch over the area.
Back in the makeshift camp Yang, Weiss, Blake and Rock began to eat their dinner. After they finished their dinner each of them laid down on their sleeping mats. Yang, Blake and Rock each had trouble falling asleep for different reasons, while Weiss is able to sleep she twists and turns for a bit before being able to sleep completely.
Rock fell asleep after a while, with Rush, Beat and Tango falling asleep next to him.
Back with Ruby, Zwei had followed his master. She notices, pets her dog and looks out onto the abandoned city somberly.
"Don't worry. Things will be better tomorrow." said Ruby as she looks at the moon shining onto the city.
A/N: And there you have it, another chapter done and a few things have now been revealed. These things will be expanded upon in the future of this story. Anyways I'm happy to say that this story has passed 5000 views, which is a record I didn't think I would ever reach.
