Chapter 19: Good Will Hunter
"Shane, watch out!" Zoey called out, seeing the Red Ranger run into the window of Storm Charges. "Ouch. Are you ok?"
Smiling, he just grabbed her arm and dragged her into the store.
"Check it out?" He held a magazine in his hands. "Big Air's having a contest for the best action video."
"Can I have my arm back?" Zoey said, looking pointed his hand.
"Oops." Letting go, Shane backed away from her, "Sorry. Don't kill."
"Maybe later."
"Let's see," Tori said, smirking as she took the magazine. "The best one-minute video will be played on national television during the next Action Games."
This time Dustin took the magazine to look at it.
"Oh, sweet," he said with a smile, "I'm so going to win."
"Uh," Shane asked, "don't you mean you're so going to come in second?"
"No dude," Dustin answered, "I mean, I'm going win it..."
He looked up at the others to see them all looking at him.
"Dustin, he was calling you out," Zoey told them Yellow Ranger before moving over to stand next to Tori.
"Oh. Right." He laughed nervously, "I knew that."
Jenna just smiled, still under Hunter's arm, "I don't know how any of you are going to win anything without a video camera."
"What about Dustin's?" Blake asked as he held back a laugh.
"If I remembered correctly," Tori said as she turned around to look at Dustin. "You tapped it to your helmet right before you crashed into that big old tree."
"Yeah," Dustin agreed with her. "but I got a really cool shot."
"Would that be the video of you freaking out going down a hill?" The Fire Ninja asked, smirking when he glared at her.
"Yeah," Blake said in disbelief before turning to Shane. "So, uh, Cam's got a camera."
"Oh!
Blake nodded his head in agreement. Dustin and Shane, getting the same idea, ran out of the store together, nearly knocking over a woman and her son. Zoey let out a sigh, sharing a look with Tori and Jenna, before shaking their heads. "We better go make sure they don't kill each other." Nodding, the girls walked out to follow the boys to Ninja Ops.
1-2-3-4-5
Following Tori and the guys into Ninja Ops, Zoey and Jenna stayed back, as they didn't really care about the contest.
As they tried to talk over each other, Cam turned from his desk with a frown.
"Cam, can I borrow your video camera?" Shane asked, when there was a break in the confusion.
"Dude," Dustin whined, "I called it in the car!"
"Dustin did, man. I heard it." Blake said, agreeing with the Earth Ninja, "After that, it's all mine."
"Get real," Tori scoffed.
Cam, amused, interrupted. "Hold it." He said, "Just wait a minute. No one's calling anything until I know what's up."
With a sigh, Shane handed him the magazine. "Check out page five." While Cam was reading the article, Jenna and Zoey leaned against the desk while the other four sat on the floor. Waiting for him to finish, Tori looked at the girls.
"How's your training coming along?"
"Pretty good. Our control is a lot better." Commented the Pink Ranger, nodding her head.
Agreeing, Jenna just shrugged, "Yeah, I mean, I haven't accidently caused anything I touch to turn into an icy pop in a week." She grinned, "So I'd say we're doing pretty good."
"Okay, I'll do it," Cam agreed, causing everyone to look at him. "But I have some conditions. One – nobody touches my camera but me. I saw the results of your last outing on When Good Riders Go Bad," he said, pointing to Dustin. "And two – everyone gets equal time on their video. I can't stand all of this begging." Seeing Dustin raised his hand, Cam nodded to him. "Dustin?"
"Can I go to the bathroom?"
"No way."
"You know," Zoey said, thoughtfully, "I too, have a video camera." Everyone looked at her as Jenna smirked. "Birthday present last year from a certain former Ranger, who shall remain nameless."
"Yeah, cause we know what would happen if anyone found out about that little blip in your life," Jenna commented, grinning mischievously, "And not just you getting in trouble."
"Yes, thank you for that." Shaking her head, the Fire Ninja continued, "What I was trying to say was, I can help film." She looked over at Cam, "Not separately. Too much drama. I was thinking two separate angles for more of an effect."
"Yeah, and I have an action camera that is supposed to be attached to helmets and survive crashes," Jenna said, looking at a sheepish Dustin, "I can take it on the water for up close shots of Tori."
"And I can follow behind on a skateboard and motocross bike and follow the guys around."
"Sounds like a plan." Cam agreed, turning back to his computer, as the others hi-fived each other. "I'll draw up a schedule for us to follow."
1-2-3-4-5
Everyone was at the skate ramp by the beach where Shane was filming his part of the video. They had already gotten some shots of him at the skate park, with Zoey following behind. Now they were aiming for more of a personal angle.
"Come on already," Tori mumbled, sitting on the rail next to Jenna.
Shane finished by sliding down the ramp on his knees. "That was great," Cam commented, as Zoey walked over from where she was filming, "I think we got some good shots."
"Yeah?" Shane questioned, "Better than what you got for Blake and Dustin?" Cam rolled his eyes as everyone moved over to them. "Okay, give me one more try, man. I know I can land the kick flip to front side rail slide."
"Shane," Zoey smirked, "We could be here for a week, and you wouldn't nail it." She continued, while examining her nails, "I, however, perfected that move two years ago."
"She had a really great teacher." Jenna said, coming up beside her, "but we don't talk about that. That was during one her gaps."
"Gaps?"
"When her and the Nomad were on a break and were seeing other people."
"Can we go now?" Tori huffed. "I've got to get in the water before the swell dies down."
"We haven't even been here long, man," Shane argued, "What about equal time?"
"We were just as the skate park," Zoey pointed a finger at him, "So, chill."
Before he could say anything else, their morphers went off.
"Saved by the bell," Cam muttered, everyone gathering around.
"Go for Shane."
"Kelzacks… in the city…" They could barely hear Cyber Cam over the static.
"Something's wrong with Cyber Cam," the genius said, "I'll check it out and call Hunter."
"We'll take the Kelzacks." Shane nodded to everyone and they too off for the city.
1-2-3-4-5
Arriving in the city, the rangers already in their Ninja gear saw only two Kelzaks standing by themselves. Zoey looked on in confusion, "Something's wrong with this picture."
"Two of them? That's it?" Dustin asked in disbelief, "I can handle this one by myself."
As they moved down the steps, four Kelzaks show up to join the other two. The four more appeared behind them. Before they knew, they were surrounded.
"I've never seen this many at one time," Jenna said, "What was that about being able to handle this on your own?"
"So, I was wrong," Dustin said as everyone got into fighting stances, "Sue me."
"Is it Kelzack migration season or what?" Zoey asked as even more appeared.
They all ran down the stairs before being caught in the middle of them.
"I don't know about you guys, but I'm feeling a little outnumbered," Shane stated.
"This day just keeps getting better."
"I think it's time to morph," Tori suggested.
"Word." Shane agreed, "Ready?"
"Ready," they all agreed.
"NINJA STORM!"
"FIRE STORM!"
"ICE STORM!"
"THUNDER STORM!"
"RANGER FORM, HA!"
Morphed, they divided to take on their own group of Kelzaks. Blake pulled out his Thunder Staff, the Wind Rangers their Ninja Swords, and Zoey and Jenna their glaives. The more they fought, the more Kelzacks showed up.
"What's the deal?" Dustin asked.
"What is this, Whack-a-Kelzack?" Zoey said, taking out another before two came up behind her, "You take one down, another just pops up."
"There's too many to count." Tori stated.
"Why would you want to?" Jenna asked her.
Zoey looked over at the Navy Ranger. "Where the hell is your Brother Blake?"
"I don't know," Blake answered.
Next thing they knew, two streaks of lightning shot out of the, taking out half the Kelzacks in one go.
"Whoa."
"That so wasn't Hunter." Zoey said, shaking her head. Looking over, they saw two blurs streak into view, taking out more Kelzacks.
When they stopped, the blurs were revealed to be two new Rangers. One Black. One White. Their uniforms identical to the Thunders, Dustin looked at Blake, "How come we didn't know about more Thunder Rangers?"
"Because they aren't Thunder Rangers, Dustin." Zoey said, noticing Blake shrug, "They wear the symbol of the Lightning Academy."
"What?!"
All of a sudden, the Kelzacks vanished into thin air.
"Where they go?" Shane asked as they all meet in the middle. "Guys?"
"I'm worked," Dustin told Shane.
"I never what to do that again," Jenna added.
"What's up with that?" Shane asked as they all had their visors down.
"As long as they're gone dude, don't ask any questions," Dustin answered told him.
"I agree with Dustin on this."
"Cam?" Blake asked, "did you call Hunter?"
"There's been a glitch in the communication system," Cam answered, "I couldn't give him the alert. There's something weird going on."
"No lie," Shane agreed. "Hey, thanks for the assist."
"No problem," The new Rangers walked over, lowering their own visors, "Glad we could help."
When Zoey looked at them, she de-morphed, "Raina! Andy!" Grinning, she walked over and hugged her friends as everyone followed suit and de-morphed. "I don't believe it. Welcome to the Ranger Family." Moving over so Jenna could take her turn, she looked at the others.
"Guys let me introduce to the newest Rangers. That's Raina Mariposa De Santos," she pointed to the White Ranger. She had on Black Ninja Training Gear with white lines and the symbol of the Lightning Academy on it. Then she pointed to the Black Ranger "And her partner in crime-fighting is Andrew Zachariah Park." He his suite was all black with gold accents.
"Anybody calls me Mariposa and I'll fry you."
Zoey just laughed. Turning, she looked at Andy, "Does your brother know you're here?"
Laughing, he shook his head, "Why would my brother need to know where I am? It's my parents we have to worry about. Our Sensei sent us here and created our cover story."
"Yeah," Raina continued, "We're taking part of a special martial arts program here. Problem was convincing our parents in the first place because of the attacks."
Jenna nodded to Zoey, "Yeah, they don't know."
"Nope."
"Know what?" The Lightning Ninjas demanded.
"Hey, I know." Tori said, raising her hand, "It was part of your Ranger lessons that you two are always spouting off. Adam Park was the second Black Ranger here on Earth."
Laughing, the two new Rangers looked at them incredulously, "You've got to be joking?" Andy just shook his head. "My brother? A Ranger?" He chuckled, "That's hilarious."
"Yeah, I mean, everyone knows the second Black Ranger was the Black Space Ranger, and he revealed his identity as Carlos Vallerte."
Clearing her throat, Jenna interjected, "Technically, Carlos is the third Black Ranger in the timeline, but he's a Space Ranger, not an Earth Ranger."
"Anymore."
"Right," She nodded at Zoey, "The first Mighty Morphin Black Ranger left, and his powers were passed on to a worthy candidate. That candidate was also the Black Ninjetti Ranger, the Green Zeo Ranger, and the first Green Turbo Ranger."
"Then he passed that power on the Carlos." Zoey nodded, "Then four of the five Turbo Rangers went on to become Space Rangers."
Looking at their friends, Andy and Raina looked shocked. "Wait, are you telling me that, Adam, my brother, was not only the second Black Ranger, but he was multiple rangers?"
"Yes, your brothers were rangers." Jenna said, pointing to both Lightning Ninjas.
"What?"
"He only has one brother," pausing, Raina looked at the girls, "Rocky?!"
"Yes."
"My head hurts."
"Don't worry. We'll give you the whole story later. We need to get Ninja Ops." Zoey explained, looking at Shane.
He agreed and everyone streaked away.
1-2-3-4-5
Once they arrived at Ninja Ops, Zoey and Jenna introduced the new rangers to Cam and Sensei. "It is an honor to meet you. We could always need more help."
The Lightning Rangers just started at Sensei, confused.
"During the initial attack on the Academy, Sensei's powers collided with Lothor's and he was turned into a guinea pig." Zoey said with a grin, patting them on the shoulders, "Don't worry. You'll get used to it."
"Why does your suit have gold on it if you're the Black Ranger?" Tori asked, curiously.
"They didn't want to do all black, so they added the gold accents to differentiate between us." Andy replied, looking at everyone, "Those are some sick moves."
Tori was standing with Cam going over her video trying to figure out which moves would be best.
"Big Air's having a video contest." Jenna pointed out, "Best moves get their vid featured during the next action games."
"I don't know. Something's missing," Tori told her friends, "it's like I've seen it all before."
"That's what you always look like," Cam told her.
Jenna giggled as Sensei flipped onto the desk looking at them.
"I trust that since your spending time on this project that the operating system as returned to normal?" Sensei asked.
"It's all clear Dad," Cam answered.
"I just have this feeling that the judge wants something totally out there," Tori them, just as the alarm went off.
"That's totally out there," Cam stated.
"Agreed."
"Whoa," Tori said, "we better get out there."
"I'll call the others," Cam called out as the five Rangers left.
1-2-3-4-5
When they got there, Blake and Hunter had just been thrown to the ground. When they went to attack him, the monster shot out he shot out 7 bolts of energy sending them flying back. Just as they got up, he vanished.
"What?"
"Hey, where did he..."
"He just vanished," Tori stated.
"What's up with that?" Dustin asked while everyone got up.
"So weird."
"Let me know when you guys figure it out," Hunter told them, "I, uh, gotta be some here."
"Ok," Dustin agreed.
1-2-3-4-5
"I think we should consider a career in cinematography," Cam commented looking at Zoey and Jenna. They stood in front of the mainframe in Ninja Ops looking at the footage they shot. The others, minus Hunter, stood behind them watching the tape.
"I don't know, dude," Dustin sighed, "The video's just not blowing me away."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," Blake agreed, "But check out this cool power slide."
"Well, at least you got one killer shot," Dustin pointed out.
"Yeah, but it takes more than one killer shot to make a video." The Navy Ranger commented.
"Maybe we should head back out there," Dustin suggested, "You three up for it?" He went to pat Cam's shoulder, but his hand went right through it.
Zoey and Jenna just grinned as the others stared in shock. "Sorry guys. I had some real work to do." Cam said, coming up behind them. "Now, what were you saying?"
About an hour later, the friends from Angel Grove came out of the kitchen to see Dustin, Blake and Tori were sitting around the table thinking about their tapes with frowns on their faces.
"Who died?" Raina asked, looking at her friends. The Fire and Ice Ninjas had just finished telling them about their ranger history, much to their surprise, and had fixed themselves smoothie bowls for a snack.
"Well, considering they're holding their tapes, I'm gonna take a guess and say that I'm fixing to get insulted." Zoey said, eating a mixed berry acai smoothie.
"Wait…" Tori started, but Shane came to sit beside them.
"So, how'd your tapes turn out?" When they just stared at him, he nodded, "About as good as mine?"
"I think all my best moves are in the first ten seconds." Tori groaned.
"Mine too," Blake threw his tape down, "The rest is just tired."
Cam got up and walked over to stand between Zoey and Jenna. "Let me get this straight. After all the hard work from yours truly," he pointed from himself to the girls on either side of him, "and no one's happy?"
"We're not saying it's your fault." Dustin said in defense, "I mean, we just didn't think it'd be so hard to make a rockin' video."
Sensei jumped onto the table, "Rangers, this is not new territory. Have you not learned by now the value of working as one?"
"Dad, may I?" Sensei nodded, "You guys ever hear of the term editing?" The Samurai asked, earning smiles and laughs from his fellow rangers.
Just shaking her head, Zoey went to take another bit from her bowl when the computer beeped. Running over to the mainframe, Cam tapped a few keys and brought up an image.
"Now what?" Shane asked, seeing Marah and Kapri arguing.
"They've got Lothor's PAM," Tori pointed out, as the monster from before re-appeared.
"What's a PAM?" Andy whispered to Jenna. She just her head, "I'll explain later."
"Dude, that's is freaky!" Dustin said.
"Get the bikes and we'll meet you there," Cam said, pointing to the new rangers.
"Bikes?" Raina asked with a grin, "As in, motorbikes?"
"Yes. If you want one, we'll have to see about getting it built later." Zoey nodded and everyone took off.
1-2-3-4-5
"DJ Drummer is back on the air, baby!" the monster yelled from the top of the quarry.
"You've just been cancelled!" Cam said as he and the Lightning Rangers jumped into view. "Cyber Morpher! Power Up!"
"Bring it!" The monster challenged.
"Big mouth," The White Ranger said, looking at her companion, "Shall we?"
"We shall."
"Scorpion Sais!"
"Monarch Blades!"
The three rangers attacked, landing a few blows before he blew them back into the Thunder Rangers.
"We've got you."
"Crimson Blaster!" Hunter commanded, firing at the monster.
"Navy Antlers!" Blake shouted, jumping forward. He grabbed him around the waist, lifted him into the air and over his shoulder.
"Let's up the ante," Andy said, looking at his friend, and nodded.
"Lightning Staff! Katana Mode!" They hit a few buttons, and their staffs turned into traditional Katana Swords.
"Where's the beat?" Drummer said, the three of them.
"Right here!", Hunter said, "Thunder Staff!"
"Black Lightning!"
"White Lightning!"
"Full Power!"
Electricity rippled through their weapons and the three rangers slashed them down on the monster, making him double over in pain.
"Argh! Kelzacks!"
They turned in surprise as the red and black foot soldiers charged them. Zoey, Jenna, and the Wind Rangers arrived on their Tsunami Cycles, chasing them off.
"Alright, guys!" Hunter shouted.
"Always happy to help!" Shane saluted as the Thunders dealt with the monster, leaving the others to handle the Kelzacks.
"Thunder Blaster!"
"FIRE!"
The ball of energy collided with the monster, causing him to explode. They others all cheered at their victory.
"Now that wasn't so hard, was it?" Cam asked.
Everyone was laughing until a scroll of empowerment appeared in the sky.
"Awe, man!" Zoey groaned, "One battle. Can we not do this for one battle."
"I hate it when they grow big," Jenna patted her friend on the shoulder.
"We'll just go back to Ninja Ops. Wouldn't want to get squished." Andy waved bye as the Lightning Rangers Ninja Streaked away.
"Let's go guys!" Shane called, as everyone got in their Zords.
The Rangers jumped up in their Zords when they showed up, combining their Zords into the four Megazords.
"Storm Megazord!"
"Thunder Megazord!"
"Fox Zord! Warrior Mode!"
"Artic Wolf Zord! Warrior Mode!"
"This is DJ Drummer, coming at you live," the radio-bot said, "so sit back and enjoy the hits."
The Thunder Megazord attacked, but the DJ was able to knock them back.
"Hunter, Blake!" Jenna called.
Both Zoey and Jenna used their glaives and blocked the monsters next attack on Hunter and Blake.
"You guys alright?" Zoey asked.
"Yeah, thanks," Hunter answered.
DJ Drummer attacked the four Zords, before Cam came in for the save.
"Let's put some sting into his sing," Cam told them as he uploaded a power disk.
Hunter held it up looking at it.
"You got it Cam," Hunter told him, "Power Disk Locked and Dropped!"
"That should help," Cam told them.
"It's time to turn down that Radio," Blake said.
"Right there with you, little bro," Hunter agreed.
The Thunder Megazord was quick to attack the DJ Drummer.
"You can't stop the beat," DJ Drummer told them.
Both Blake and Hunter lifted the monster up in the air and destroyed him.
1-2-3-4-5
Everyone sat in the back room watching the Action Games while Hunter worked on a Motocross bike talking to Charlie.
"Dude, it's on!" Dustin called.
Hunter and Charlie came in to join them on the couch. Hunter picked Jenna up sat down in her spot before placing her in his lap. Individually, Dustin, Hunter, Blake, and Zoey showed up on the screen riding and doing tricks on their Motocross bikes. Then it switched to Shane and Zoey skateboarding, then moved to Raina and Zoey rollerblading like pros, and finally to Tori, Jenna, and Zoey surfing. It switched back to the Motocross track, skatepark, beach, and back to the track. It ended with pictures of evereyone before the announcer came back on.
"Once again that was the winning video from the kids in Blue Bay Harbor."
They all cheered when it was over.
"That was great guys!" Charlie said, excited, "You looked awesome!" He saw his mom come in, "See you later, Hunter. Congratulations guys."
After he left, Raina held up a hand, "Hold up," she said, looking confused, "Where did you get the footage of us? We did shoot anything with you."
"Oh, that's easy," Zoey said, smirking, "Tommy has video archives of every one of us doing various sports and activities. He has a special folder set aside for siblings. Jenna and I have our own folders, but any of Zordon's Twelve that have siblings are featured in there." Looking at them, she folder her arms. "I pulled them off, with his permission, so we could finish the video. You're part of the team now. That's all that matters."
"Ok." Andy nodded, "First, what's Zordon's Twelve?"
"That refers to every Ranger chosen by Zordon himself. Your brothers are included in that."
"Understood," he looked at her, "Now, second question. Why were you in every scene?"
"Actually, I have no clue." Shrugging, she looked at Cam, "I didn't film anything. Where did all of that come from?"
"Same place you got Raina and Andy's." Jenna grinned, "Tommy. Like you said, we're a team. We should all be in it. Cam's the one who made the decision to use all of yours."
"What?" The genius said, when everyone looked at him, "Nobody else was doing any of the tricks she was pulling off. And it didn't matter what she was doing them in. I made the video, so I made the decision."
"Whatever, dude. We killed it," Dustin told them.
"We do have to give Zoey, Jenna and Cam some of the credit," Tori told them.
"Thank you," Cam thanked.
"Yes, thank you," Zoey clapped sarcastically, "I feel so much better knowing we wouldn't have won if you guys had made your own video."
"Yeah, but the Moto stuff was the sickest, no?" Blake asked.
"Oh, yeah," Hunter agreed as he fist dumped with his Brother.
"Huh, Dude?" Shane asked, "did you see the skating?"
"Nothing we haven't seen before," Blake told him.
It wasn't long till the boys started to argue over their favorite part and which one was better.
"Hey, Raina." Jenna asked, looking at the White Ranger.
"Sup?"
"How did you two get your morphers if the academy hasn't fallen?"
Everyone stopped. "The Lightning Academy is still standing? How?" Shane asked.
"Look, guys," Jenna held up a hand, "remember when we talked about how, the Winter Academy could be attacked, but it wouldn't, do to the polarity? Lothor's goons wouldn't have any powers, whatsoever." Everyone nodded.
"It's different for the Lightning Academy. It's not a matter of not being able to, as he's not stupid enough to do so." Zoey leaned back, "You see, their academy, it's in Angel Grove. And it's located in the Temple of Power."
"Wait," Blake held up a hand, "I thought that place was a myth."
"Absolutely real. It's located in the Desert of Despair." Andy said, nodding.
"Who would want to put a temple in a place called the Desert of Despair?"
"It's for protection. Trust us, that place is a stronghold. He'd never get in." Zoey smirked.
"So, about my question…" Jenna said, trailing off.
"Ok, so we're still not really sure why we were chosen. Only that it had to do with the weapons. I'm the only one in the entire academy trained on Butterfly Swords. And the Sais are typically a female weapon." Raina answered, looking at Andy, "But he fell in love with Michelangelo and decided he wanted to be just like him."
She waited until everyone had stopped laughing. "Sensei Raiku said that the morphers had to be used by someone who had mastery over those weapons." She paused, "He also brought up our control over the lightning. That was confusing. Made my head hurt."
"Many students train at the academy. Not everyone graduates. You have to have a certain temperament to control lightning." Andy picked up the story, "We both have anger issues, so it made it easy for us to control it."
"No wonder you're so good, Hunter," Zoey looked at the blonde, "explains the whole tall, dark and brooding thing that you can't seem to shake." She said, making everyone laugh again.
"Sensei gave us our morphers two months ago." Everyone looked at Raina with shocked expressions, "But we weren't allowed to leave yet. The morphers had some function problems and we had to get it worked out so we could transfer out here. Our parents think we're at some special school for martial arts." She stopped, "Ok, technically not a lie, but still. You can thank our brothers for that one. Actually, now that I think about it, Tommy and Jason probably had more sway with our parents than our brothers." She paused, "Anyways, while we were working on the parents, they were attempting to fix the morphers."
"Trust us," Andrew finished, "We were as unhappy about this as you are. If we could have gotten those morphers fixed sooner, we would have been here from the beginning."
"You're here now," Zoey said, "That's all that matters."
Everyone nodded their heads in agreement. Now, they were a team of 10. And more powerful than ever. Bring it on Lothor.
I owe thanks to Lewamus Prime 202 for his help in creating Andrew Park. It was his idea, and we worked out the details together. I decided I wanted there to be two lightning rangers, and what better way that with another female. Hope you enjoy the new OCs and don't forget to vote!
