Sorry for not posting yesterday. We had a power outage the day before and it threw me off so much I only had about half of the chapter done. Thankfully we got a new wonderful fluff story from ScorplinginTraining and an excellent new chapter from Niamh
As soon as the door closed behind them Walter promptly got their cell phones out and turned them off. He sat a small burner phone on the coffee table in the living room part of the suite. Paige smiled but he could see the question in her eyes.
As he took the phone in the room off the hook he looked back at her. "I don't trust Toby to try and mess with us. So I gave this burner number to Cabe and Ralph for emergencies."
Paige grinned as she walked over and wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him.
Their time at the penthouse was relaxing for the most part. The day after their wedding Paige had gone out onto the balcony. Given that no other buildings had views of their particular area Paige began to remove her robe so she could try for an all over tan but she stopped as she heard a strange noise.
Paige looked around but didn't see anything so she cinched her robe back up and stood up and continued to look around when she saw Birdronie come flying around the corner of the building. "Walter," Paige exclaimed.
Walter heard her yell and ran out onto the balcony and saw the drone as it was flying away from their view. "Toby," Walter cursed. He ran back inside and grabbed up his cell phone and powered it back up. He pulled up the message app and sent a text to Happy. "Hey Happy, let Toby know we're docking his pay for March. We don't appreciate him using Birdronie to spy on us."
Paige walked in as he powered his phone back off. "What did you do?"
Walter smiled. "I sent Happy a message letting her know we're docking Toby's pay for March for that little stunt."
Paige grinned.
They pulled all the curtains shut and spent the rest of their time sequestered inside enjoying each other's company.
Wednesday morning after checking out they walked outside to find Cabe leaning against his SUV with a grin on his face. "Wait until you guys see Toby."
They smiled at each other and then at Cabe knowing Happy's propensity to throw something at Toby when she was mad.
Sure enough as they walked into the Garage they saw Toby on his couch with nice shiner. They found out that Sylvester wasn't too happy with him either, as an RF signal came up and over powered the signal from the remote control and sent Birdronie into a steep dive where it crashed into the street and what wasn't broken on impact was crushed under the wheels of a passing vehicle or three.
Walter spent the free time of the first couple of days back at the Garage calculating the remaining loft floor space that hadn't been converted into the apartment. He measured angles and drew up a floor plan for a new room. As he relaxed with Paige in bed that night he pulled over his sketchpad and showed her what he was working on.
There was just enough space to create a solarium for Paige if she really wanted to sunbathe without clothes for almost thirty minutes a day. Paige smiled at all the thought and work he put into it but declined. Part of the fun of the balcony was the fresh air. If she was going to tan inside she might as well get a personal tanning bed.
For Walter the next ten days past so fast but for Paige they dragged on as she was more than ready for Megan to finally come. Louise had taken over all the cleaning and cooking in the loft and Paige had her cleaning lady take over just cleaning the Garage. At first she wasn't too happy about it. She didn't mind making up some hours that way but she did it mainly because she didn't want to lose Paige's business altogether.
Two days before Megan's due date Paige woke up early experiencing cramps. She tried to get up without disturbing Walter but failed as one cramp hit as she slid her legs out of bed causing her to groan.
"Paige? Are you okay?" Walter looked over and saw her sitting on the side of the bed.
Paige looked back at him. "A little cramping is all. Go back to sleep."
Walter's eyes opened wide. "Cramping? Megan's due date is in two days. Should we get you to the car and to the hospital?"
Paige smiled, "We are no where close to that yet Walter. Forty eight hours is a lot of time for that." Paige stood up and walked around the bed and to the bathroom.
Walter knew he wasn't getting back to sleep at this point so he got up and went over to the walk in closet and pulled her go back out and doubled checked the contents and set it beside the door. He walked back and got out clothes for him and set them on her dressing table along with his shoes. He looked around for a moment. "Walter," Paige exclaimed.
Walter rushed into the bathroom. "Paige, what is it, what's wrong?"
Paige looked up at him. "I was wrong, my water just broke."
Walter smiled as he quickly helped her clean up a bit and he hurried out and got the sweatshirt and skirt she wanted. He helped her get dressed. She looked at the shoes and socks and shook her head. "Go get my sandals."
Walter ran back out and got them and put them on her before letting her hold on to him as they left the bathroom. He smiled as he looked up at her. "Your contractions have decreased quickly in intervals. You are right at six and a half minutes."
Paige glared. "I don't need a running score."
Walter grinned and helped her to sit down on the bed while he stepped over to the nursery and knocked on the door. He stepped down and knocked on Ralph's door and then walked back up to the nursery just as his Dad opened the door. "Paige is in labor Dad. I'll be taking her down to the car in a minute."
Sean's eyes shot open and he nodded before moving back over to the bed. "Louise, its time, Megan is coming."
Ralph opened his door and frowned and looked down the hall and saw the light on in his parents' room. He walked down the hall and saw Paige breathing rapidly. "Mom, are you okay?"
Paige looked up and nodded. "Megan is coming baby. You better get dressed." Paige told him.
Ralph turned and hurried back to his room.
Walter frowned. "You're down to five and a half minutes." Walter was sliding his socks on. He couldn't help it. His brilliant mind was fixated on Paige and her labor.
Paige nodded.
Walter slipped his shoes on and tied them. He stepped up and smiled as he helped Paige to stand after slinging her go bag on his shoulder.
As they moved out of their room Sean came out of the nursery and joined Walter and Paige and helped them as they moved to go down the ramp to the Garage floor. Louise came out next and hurried down the stairs.
Ralph came running out of his room and down the stairs as his parents reached the Garage door. "I called Cabe and let him know."
Walter looked back and smiled. "Thank you Ralph."
It was nearly five thirty when they arrived at the UCLA Birth Place maternity hospital. The staff was quiet, efficient while still being warm and welcoming. Cabe and Allie joined Sean, Louise and Ralph in the waiting room within minutes of their arrival. Cabe and Sean were both pacing a little when Happy and Toby arrived. Toby tried to pull his Dr's card but the staff had already been briefed by Walter and Paige and they politely but firmly directed him back to the waiting area.
A few minutes later Veronica rushed into the waiting area and was quickly ushered back to the room where Paige and Walter were.
Paige was so surprised to see her Mom. "Mom, what are you doing here?"
Veronica smiled as she sat on the other side of Paige and took over using a cooling rag on her face and neck. "I already missed my grandson being born. I wasn't about to miss my granddaughter. I made Cabe promise to call me when you went into labor at the wedding. I've been staying in local motels on the outskirts of the city ever since."
Paige looked into her eyes, "Not that I am not grateful but is that wise? What about the men who were looking for you? They might find out you are still alive."
Veronica looked over to Walter. "Not a lot of risk right now. Seems someone turned in evidence of a lot of their criminal activities. They're currently in jail without bail. They are facing a minimum of twenty years if convicted on all of the charges. I heard they had a plea deal that they'd have to serve at least twelve before being eligible for parole."
Paige looked from her Mom to Walter. "Walter, do you know something about this?"
Walter smiled. "I've been working on it for sometime. It had just started coming together when Collins kidnapped me."
Paige smiled after a contraction passed and reached up and hugged him tightly. "Thank you."
Walter smiled. "I'd do anything for you."
Florence and Sylvester showed up right at six as a nurse came out and got Louise and escorted her back to the room.
A couple of hours had passed when Walter came out to check on Ralph. He gave him several twenties to take everyone down to the cafeteria for breakfast. He gave Cabe a phone number and asked him to call Ralph out of school for the day before heading back.
As soon as he returned to the room Walter sat on the side of the bed and took Paige's hand and resumed guiding her through her breathing.
For Paige it had seemed like they'd been there for half the day and for Walter it had seemed only a few hours had passed since Paige woke up. For Cabe and Sean they were both quite sure it had been at least thirty. The carpet they both kept pacing over probably would have agreed with them if it had been capable of such thought.
Finally the door that separated the waiting room from the birthing rooms opened and a smiling Walter walked through carrying a small bundle held carefully in his arms while Louise walked beside him smiling down into the folds of that blanket.
Everyone scrambled to get up and move over to greet the new arrival. Walter looked up at his family as they gathered about in a half circle. "Guys, this is Paige Megan O'Brien."
Allie's heart melted instantly as did Cabe and Sean's. The others all smiled and nodded as they repeated her name. Ralph stepped up and smiled at his little sister. "Hey Megan, I'm Ralph, and I'm your big brother."
Megan yawned and then jerked as several flashes went off as they took pictures with their phones. Walter let Sean, Cabe and Allie hold her for a few minutes each before taking her back. "Sorry, but Mommy wanted her back as soon as possible."
Everyone smiled and nodded as Walter turned to go back through the doors. He looked back at Ralph. "Your Mom wants you to come back for a little bit too."
Ralph smiled and stepped up quickly to walk with Walter as Louise stepped up to Sean and they hugged tightly.
The second morning after Megan was born Walter had gone down to the cafeteria to get them some breakfast. Paige saw he'd left his laptop and she decided to check her email while Megan slept. As the laptop came up she found a document file open.
Paige began reading over it and smiling.
Walter walked in. "They only had scrambled eggs again." He swallowed as he saw she was on his laptop.
Paige looked over and nodded. "That's fine Walter. You want to tell me about this though?"
Walter slowly nodded as he stepped over and sat down beside her. "Well, as you know I've always had problems connecting with other people. Even other geniuses and there is no way to know if Megan will be a genius. So I started making a list of things that I like in order of preference. And then I began listing things that kids supposedly like on a developmental order and trying to work the things I like into a way to express them to her developmental order so I can hopefully connect better with her."
"Then I thought about Ralph and so I started a list of the things he really likes and working them into the mix so the three of us can connect and then I thought about your likes and listed them and started working them into it so the four of us can connect better as well. Then none of us will get left out. Of course as Megan matures she'll develop interests that don't match with the norm and we'll have to make additions to the list."
He saw tears in Paige's eyes. "Do you know how much I love you right now? The old Walter would never have even considered that. You have been so expressive and accepting of things. Even my friends are impressed with the changes. Remember when you listened to that lecture when we were supposed to be listening to my friend as she played her music? And then you wanted to try and correct her song title?"
Walter nodded. "Definitely wasn't one of my better moments."
Paige smiled.
Three days later Walter held the door as Paige slowly walked into the Garage carrying their little girl. They found a large banner stretched across the opening to the ramp welcoming little Paige Megan O'Brien home.
Megan jerked a bit and started crying as everyone started clapping. Katherine Cooper, Rusty, Simone, Nick and Ray joined team Scorpion for their homecoming. Paige smiled as Sylvester moved up quickly and assured her that he made everyone almost bathe in sanitizer.
Paige leaned in and kissed his cheek as she began bouncing Megan trying to comfort her from being startled by the noise they made.
Sean, Louise and Veronica all followed in behind them and Cabe and Allie entered shortly after.
Megan made the rounds as everyone took a few minutes to hold her and surprisingly even Sylvester held her. Happy looked at Walter. "I took a look at that baby crib you put together and I got one thing to say about your mechanical skills. They suck. I took it apart and put it together correctly. Of course it wasn't entirely your fault. Whoever wrote those directions didn't understand the original language or didn't understand how to translate it to English. Fortunately I'm an engineer and I know enough Portuguese to make it easy."
Walter smiled. "Thanks Happy. I appreciate that."
"We also got you a bassinet so you can keep Megan down here beside your desks during work hours." Florence gestured over besides Paige's desk.
Paige grinned. "That is so sweet Florence thank you."
Everyone else finally left after Paige retired to their bedroom with Megan. Walter took the time to prepare one of Paige's favorite snacks before joining her in their bedroom.
Greetings! Hoping this finds you all well! We're doing okay. Some weird weather for Indiana. Sweltering hot (normal) to really nice cool days (highly unusual).
Pamz - Thank you! It really was a quick switch that I was really confused with. I hadn't considered the car being a catalyst for it, maybe? He definitely was upset over that in later episodes as he kept saying Walter's new car was the company car. Of course at the end of Civil Wars even Cabe was against Walter trying to start a relationship with her which I thought was really odd too.
Scorpling - HAHA Dang, that would have been funny. Though after wearing the coconut bra I don't suppose a dress would have bothered him. lol
And here we are at the end of this "little" fix-it. Thank you guys for taking this journey with me!
