Chapter Thirty-Five

Yuito: 4000 LP

Suito: 4000 LP

"So this is it?" Yuito asked, "the convergence everybody has been talking about?"

"Doesn't feel all that special, does it?" his father replied, "I, too, expected something more… overwhelming, if I'm honest."

"It's definitely pretty," Yuito said, eyeing the colorful walls surrounding them.

"You could say that. But if you don't mind, we don't have time to waste," Suito said, as he took a first card out of his hand, "I activate my Spell Card Kaleidoconundrum. It prevents me from Summoning monsters until the End Phase, except Ritual Monsters, but lets me add a Kaleidocorpus monster from my Deck to my hand."

His Duel Disk slipped out a card, which he then placed in his Pendulum Zone, alongside another card from his hand: "I Set the Pendulum Scale with Kaleidocorpus Pendulum Gate and Kaleidocorpus Boundless Edge!"

Two monsters rose up in light pillars on the edges of Suitos field, a colorful stained glass gate in one, and a twisted glass hexagon, with its edges continuously bending, in the other.

Kaleidocorpus Pendulum Gate: Scale 0

Kaleidocorpus Boundless Edge: Scale 9

"Is this really the right thing to do, dad?" Yuito interrupted his father, "I do understand the need for the convergence now, but..."

"But what?"

"Why make such a giant wish?" he asked, "a world without conflict, thats really big and really vague. Do you really know what would come of it?"

"A better world, that is certain. The Crosspoints give you what you ask for, in one way or another. We contemplated wishing for world peace, but that has even more loopholes," Suito explained, "a world without conflict is the safest wish we settled on to make the world a better place. Now, I activate the effect of Boundless Edge, which lets me add a Ritual Monster from my Deck to my hand while I have Pendulum Gate in my other Pendulum Zone."

Yuito wanted to object to what his father had said, but he just went on with his turn: "Pendulum Gate, swing my Pendulum of Destiny! From between the dimensions, beyond human understanding, descend, the fairest monster of them all! Ritual Pendulum Summon! Level 8, Yellow Cross – Angel!"

A ray of light emerged from the portal that had opened between the two pillars, forming into a monster with a conical body and two large wings, all made of various colors of stained glass. Right above its 'body' floated a crown with six gems sitting on top of it, each in the different colors of the Crosspoints, red, blue, yellow, green, purple, orange.

Yellow Cross – Angel: LIGHT / Fairy / Ritual / Effect / Level 8 / 2800 ATK / 2800 DEF

Suito: 4000 LP → 3000 LP

"Already?" Yuito glared at the monster floating behind his father. It was his Crosspoint-powered monster, and as such the strongest that his deck could muster.

"I'm sorry boy, but I'm not taking chances any more," Suito replied, "I Set two cards face-down and end my turn."

"Then I better start on a high note as well," Yuito said as he drew his card, "I Normal Summon my Stone Crypt Rune Sorcerer!" A blindfolded sorcerer in dirty robes appeared in front of Yuito. It held a staff in its hand which it used to draw faintly glowing runes on the ground around him.

Stone Crypt Rune Sorcerer: EARTH / Spellcaster / Effect / Level 4 / 1200 ATK / 1800 DEF

"When my Rune Sorcerer is Summoned, I can Special Summon any other Stone Crypt monster straight from my deck," he continued, "and I choose my Stone Crypt Librarian!" The runes surrounding his monster glowed with energy, before a second monster appeared right next to the first one, this one visibly older, dressed in a tattered robe and clutching a stone slab.

Stone Crypt Librarian: EARTH / Spellcaster / Effect / Level 4 / 1600 ATK / 1800 DEF

"When my Librarian is Summoned, I can add any Scribestone card from my deck to my hand!"

"In chain to your Summon," Suito intervened, as his face-down Quick-Play Spell flipped up, "I activate my face-down card Contract Refinement!"

"Why use that at this point?" Yuito asked confused, "it only returns your Angel back to your hand and lets you… oh."

Midway through this sentence, he remembered the effect of Angel and how much trouble that was for him.

"Exactly. I return my Yellow Cross – Angel back to my hand, only to immediately Summon it again from my hand." The glass figure disappeared from the field, only to moments later reappear in the exact same spot.

Yellow Cross – Angel: LIGHT / Fairy / Ritual / Effect / Level 8 / 2800 ATK / 2800 DEF

"When my Angel is Special Summoned," Suito continued, "it will banish all face-up monsters that aren't Ritual Monsters and gain 500 ATK for each."

Yuito gritted his teeth: "Before you do that, the effect of my Librarian still goes through. That means I can add my Damietta Scribestone from my Deck to my hand."

While he added that card to his hand, Suitos Ritual Monster spread its wings, emitting a rainbow hue that enveloped Yuitos monsters and caused them to disappear.

Yellow Cross – Angel: 2800 ATK → 3800 ATK

"Never underestimate me, my son."

"I see," Yuito continued, "but I still have some tricks of my own. I activate my Spell Card Scribestone Unearthing. Discarding one card, like my Damietta Scribestone, I can place one of my Stone Crypt monsters from my Deck in my Spell and Trap Zone. And I choose my Stone Crypt Force Sorcerer." A stone stele rose in front of Yuito, with the image of his monster embed on it.

"Next up I activate the effect of Damietta Scribestone in my Graveyard. I can banish it to immediately perform a Ritual Summon from my hand, using monsters from my field as tribute. And luckily, a card placed on the field through the effect of Scribestone Unearthing can be treated as the whole tribute for a Ritual Summon."

A second, larger stele rose up behind the other one, absorbing it into itself, as Yuito went on: "Same as with you, I'm done taking chances. Ritual Summon! Draw from the strength of the mysteries you unravel and bring about destruction! Level 8, Runecross End Wizard!"

The stele cracked from sheer energy and combusted, leaving behind a hooded wizard with a purple robe, glowing runes all over its bare arms and chest, eyes burning with purple flames. It held a staff with a purple jewel sitting on top, shaking and pulsating as if it was ready to combust at any time.

Runecross End Wizard: EARTH / Spellcaster / Ritual / Effect / Level 8 / 3000 ATK / 2500 DEF

"It comes down to our two Crosspoint-powered monsters father," Yuito said, the presence of his strongest monster restoring the confidence that was taken from him when his two other monsters were banished, "and unlike others, your Angel cannot banish this one."

"It is weaker than my Angel still," Suito appeared unfazed, "and I wish you the best of luck weathering away my monsters protection."

"I'm well aware of that. If it is destroyed you can just banish one monster from your Extra Deck instead, so it effectively has at least fifteen lives."

"You name it."

"Let's give it a try anyhow. I activate the effect of End Wizard. It will halve the ATK of all Special Summoned monsters you control and add the lost amount to itself." The vibrant crystal on the monsters staff started to glow and emit purple waves of energy, that seemed to take a bit of the radiance out of Yellow Cross – Angels glow.

Yellow Cross – Angel: 3800 ATK → 1900 ATK

Runecross End Wizard: 3000 ATK → 4900 ATK

"Looks like your monster is the least of my concerns. End Wizard, attack Angel and wipe out my fathers Life Points! Purple End Blast!"

The Wizard smashed its staff on the ground where it scattered in an enormous purple explosion.

Suito: 3000 LP → 6000 LP

Seeing the Life Point counter rise, Yuito first thought that it might be glitched. As the dust cleared, Angel was unscathed of the attack of course, while a rainbow hue protected his father from most of the blast.

"You see, I just activated my Trap Card Rainbow Life. It converts any damage I might've taken into Life Point gain instead," he explained, "All I had to do was to discard my Kaleidocorpus Moment Capture. And I also banish my Kaminari Attack from my Extra Deck, in order to ensure my Angels safety."

The jewel on the wizards staff regenerated, as it scoffed from not doing any damage.

"I'll have another shot at that, just you wait," Yuito said, before taking another card from his hand, "I place one card face-down and end my turn. But during my End Phase, I activate the effect my End Wizard inherited from my Force Sorcerer. Namely that I can destroy any one card you control. And I choose to get rid of Pendulum Gate." The wizard fired a blast of energy from it staff at the gate, however, it held firmly, showing no dent in the glass.

"Not a bad attempt, but nothing I'm immediately scared of, since I can just banish my Kaleidoconundrum from the Graveyard to avert its destruction," Suito replied, before he drew a card, "I suppose it my turn now?"

Runecross End Wizard: 4800 ATK → 3000 ATK

Yellow Cross – Angel: 1900 ATK → 3800 ATK

He examined the card he drew, before he went on: "Since I control a face-up Ritual Monster, I can Special Summon Kaleidocorpus Over Amalgam from my hand." The monster that appeared on Suitos field had no clear shape or resemblance and once you thought you pinned your eyes on something to recognize it, it slowly morphed into a different shape, leaving one constantly bewildered staring at it.

Kaleidocorpus Over Amalgam: LIGHT / Rock / Effect / Pendulum / Level 5 / 1900 ATK / 1900 DEF

"Now, Angel, do me the favor and wipe out End Wizard. Crosspoint Shatter!" The Angel unleashed a cascade of glass shards from its wings, but Yuito intervened when his face-down card flipped up.

"I activate my face-down Rising Blue! It will double the ATK of all face-up Ritual Monsters I control, even though it will reduce them to zero during the end of this turn."

Runecross End Wizard: 3000 ATK → 6000 ATK

A blue hue appeared around Yuitos monster, which easily fended off the other monsters attack, before striking back with a magic blast.

Suito: 6000 LP → 3800 LP

"Firstly," Suito said, "I banish Dark Balter the Terrible from my Extra Deck to prevent Angels destruction. Next up, I activate my Quick-Play Spell Card Diamond Cutter. When I take damage from battle and my monster isn't destroyed, I can use this card to destroy all Attack Position monster you control."

A large diamond emerged from the Spell Card, which soon broke into an uncountable amount of sharp pieces that pierced End Wizard.

"In chain," Yuito intervened, "I use the effect of Force Sorcerer through End Wizard, to once again try and destroy your Pendulum Gate!" With its last power reserves, the monster raised its staff and fired it at the gate, which this time shattered into a thousand tiny pieces.

"That's not very nice of you, do you know that?" Suito continued, "Over Amalgam, attack my son directly." The shifting thing fired several glass shards straight at Yuito.

Yuito: 4000 LP → 2100 LP

"As you just took damage, the last effect of my Angel will raise my Life Points by the same amount." His monster spread its wings, as tiny shards of glass rained down onto Suito.

Suito: 3800 LP → 5700 LP

He just wanted to continue his turn, as he heard a beeping sound from his arm.

"Damn," he cursed, as he looked at the timer on his watch, "its nearly sunrise. We're running out of time."

"But the convergence has already begun," Yuito replied confused, "does sunrise really matter that much?"

"Of course it does," Suito replied unnerved, "the convergence is only in effect for how long the cosmic and the natural energy are connected. If they're pulled apart before we make a wish, it could mean the end of the world as we know it."

"So you best continue your turn."

"Or you could surrender," Suito suggested, "I would have just enough time to make a wish."

"Wait what?" Yuito replied dumbfounded, "that'd work?"

"Of course it would," his father replied, "besides, at this point the Crosspoints are more than eager to unleash their energy, I doubt they would mind too much."

"Even if that's an option," he snapped, "why do I have to surrender? Surrender yourself and let me do the right thing!"

"Because you do not know what the right thing is," Suito said, "I'm sorry, but you have to trust me on this one."

"Trust you?" Yuito blurted out, "the latest memory I have of you that isn't from tonight is when you walked out of the door god knows how many years ago!"

"I already told you, I only did what's best for the world," Suito continued, "It's not time for you to do the same thing and surrender. It's by far the best choice we have."

"Well in that case," Yuito replied, "you best continue your turn. I won't surrender. We'll play this out all the way through."

Suito gritted his teeth as he went on: "You leave me no choice then, son. I hoped to spare you but I will not hesitate to strike you down if you let it come to that."

"I activate the effect of Over Amalgam! I can tribute my Angel in order to reset my Pendulum Gate to my Pendulum Zone!" The glass creature shattered into pieces, which then turned back into the glass gate that rose up in the second pillar next to Suito.

"Then I follow up with my Spell Card Kaleidochaos! By tributing my Over Amalgam, I can add four differently named Ritual Monsters from my Deck to my hand!"

"What?" Yuito asked dumbfounded, "you can straight up add four new monsters?"

"Of course, that comes with a hefty price," he went on, "I cannot draw cards or Summon anything besides Ritual Monsters for the next four of my turns."

"Not like we have time for that anyway," Yuito grunted.

"You got that right," Suito said, "now swing my Pendulum of Destiny! Radiant prism, encapsulate the sun itself and rain your fire on the entire land! Ritual Pendulum Summon! Level 8, Blue Cross – Butterfly!"

The first monster that emerged from the portal was a blue glass figurine that resembled the body of a butterfly. As it settled on the field, six wings made of fire spread from its back, in the colors blue, yellow, red, green, orange and purple. The figure itself gave of a faint blue glow.

Blue Cross – Butterfly: FIRE / Insect / Ritual / Effect / Level 8 / 3050 ATK / 0 DEF

"Fair lady of glass, parade onto the field and overwhelm the weakly minded with your strength! Ritual Pendulum Summon! Level 8, Red Cross – Maiden!"

Suiots second monster was a female glass figurine, like one from a music box. It wore a tutu in Crosspoint colours and while it pirouetted circles on the field its entire, red glowing body remained motionless.

Red Cross – Maiden: LIGHT / Psychic / Ritual / Effect / Level 8 / 3000 ATK / 3000 DEF

"Crystal warrior who hails from the skies, strike your foes with the wrath of a thunderstorm!" Suito continued chanting, "Ritual Pendulum Summon! Level 8, Orange Cross – Marksman!"

The third monster that emerged was a humanoid figure made from orange crystal. Once it rose from the ground and assumed an upward, stance it was struck by a lightning from above, after which it stood adorned with armor and a rifle in the six Crosspoint colors and started to radiate an orange glow.

Orange Cross – Marksman: LIGHT / Thunder / Ritual / Effect / Level 8 / 3500 ATK / 3300 DEF

"Bell from the heavens, sound your crystal clear chimes and herald doom for those who dare oppose you! Ritual Pendulum Summon! Level 7, Green Cross – Construct!"

Suitos fourth a last monster was a giant crystal bell with a female torso sitting on top of it, almost like it was a woman with a bellowing dress. As it sounded its bell, it formed a ring around itself, like a sound wave, that glowed in the six Crosspoint colors, contemplating the monsters own green glow.

Green Cross – Construct: WIND / Fairy / Ritual / Effect / Level 7 / 2300 ATK / 2000 DEF

Suito: 5700 LP → 1700 LP

"Tian, Hatsuko," Yuito exclaimed breathlessly as he watched the four monsters appear, "Keiji... and Officer Cole."

"Those are the names of the original holders of these Crosspoints," Suito explained, "I gave them free reign of their being by channeling them in blank cards and apparently the points took a liking to their previous appearances. But I'm not yet done."

He took another card from his hand and slotted it in his Duel Disk: "From my hand, I activate the card Kaleidocombustion! This Spell will destroy the Pendulum Gate for good, but not before unleashing my original Crosspoint back onto the field. Rise again, Yellow Cross – Angel!"

The gate above him opened one last time, allowing one last monster to pass through it, before it shattered into pieces. Suitos Angel settled in the middle of the other four monsters and spread its wings.

Yellow Cross – Angel: LIGHT / Fairy / Ritual / Effect / Level 8 / 2800 ATK / 2800 DEF

"Like I said," Suito continued, as his Yuito struggled to find his words, "I do not want it to come to this. But if you persist in making things difficult, I will bear down at you with all the might my five Crosspoints offer for me. You best make your next turn count."
