Chapter 21: Not Invited
Time had past quickly. Breaks had come and past, in which she was invited to go to the Akashi household. While she had been there, his father had been polite, but didn't seem welcoming and his step mother was rude and condescending. Every chance the harpy got, she told Kagome how undeserving she was of her precious Seijuro. Kagome put up with it and avoided the woman at all costs. Reo always managed to find a way to kidnap her and Akashi. She enjoyed those times.
While school went on, she and Reo managed to find ways to slip past her guards and relax away from everyone. They happened to be in a park laying in the grass now.
"We have another break coming up," Reo pointed out.
"Don't remind me," she said in an exasperated tone. "Every break so far has been me being degraded and insulted by that harpy on a daily basis."
"Does Akashi know about it?" He looked at the passing clouds.
"He does, but there isn't much he can do about it." She shrugged her shoulders. "I hope I don't get invited to their house this time around."
"If you don't go, I'll stay here with you instead of going home."
"You should see your family," she argued.
"Last time I went home, my mother tried to set me up with some girl. She was snobby and mean every time we were alone. She'd act nice and sweet in front of her. I don't need someone like that in my life."
"Maybe you would be better off here." She smiled as they sat up. "You really are my best friend, Reo."
"And you are my best friend." He smiled at her, but the moment was ruined by Hiroshi showing up.
"Here you are, Kagome-sama." He gave a dirty look to Reo. "You know I am to be with you always."
"I just needed some space, Hiroshi. You and Himuri can be a bit overwhelming at times." She stood and brushed her back and butt off of anything that could have stuck to her. Reo was doing the same. "We were about to head back to campus anyways." She brushed past Hiroshi with Reo. They started to talk about school and practice.
~Elsewhere~
"Please my love. Can't we go somewhere without Seijuro's betrothed for once? Just the family?" She was hanging off her husband's arm.
"Alright," he said as he looked at her. "I have work I need to get done." She nodded and pranced off. He would have to call Seijuro to let him know that Kagome was invited this time around. He wasn't sure if it was a good thing or not.
~Back at Rakuzan~
He had received the call that Kagome was not invited for this break. He didn't want to leave her here by herself, but he also knew his step mother would have made break miserable for Kagome. He would see if Reo was staying behind. He trusted the older male with her. They were the best of friends and they seemed to talk about everything.
"Reo, Kagome isn't invited this break. My step mother wants me, her, and my father to go out of country this time."
"Have you told her yet?" Reo asked. He was lounging on Akashi's couch in his room.
"No, but I am sure she doesn't want to go either." He looked over to the older male.
"You are right. She doesn't want to go. Your step mother is toxic." His eyes connected with Akashi's. There were two people he liked as more than friends and sadly he couldn't be with either of them. He wasn't sure who he liked more, but he would also not come between the two of them. If anyone deserved happiness in his opinion, it was them. "I will keep her company while you are gone."
"Thank you, Reo." He turned back to his desk. He had homework he had to finish.
