Ego
Hello, everyone. This prompt was suggested by a guest. It's Evan-Ego- post series. Enjoy.
Ever since Evan was a boy, he wanted to go out on the rodeo circuit. When he graduated high school, he had his chance. He went out on the circuit and become one of the best. After three years, he came home and saw a rodeo in his hometown. Afterward, he talked with Sally and a few of his friends.
"So, Evan, how do you like being on the circuit? We hardly get to see you anymore." Joe asked.
"It's a lot of fun. I'm one of the best." Evan answered.
"Yeah, right. You say that, but are you really one of the best?" Sally questioned.
"People say I'm just as good at your dad."
"Let's put that to the test."
"Nah, I wouldn't want you getting hurt. Besides, we both know that I'm better."
"Then you won't have a problem proving it."
"It's your funeral."
"Let's go."
They went over to the bullpens and Sally got on the bull and prepared herself.
"Go!" Sally exclaimed. The gate opened and the bull ran out trying to get Sally off. Evan went to the next pen and got ready. Evan realized that Sally was better than he thought she was. She held on much longer than he ever thought she could. When Sally fell off, she ran to the fence and climbed over. "Try and bet me."
Evan got ready and then nodded. The gate opened and Evan rode the bull. He held out for a while, but eventually, the bull got the better of him and he fell off.
"Sorry, Evan. Sally wins by 5 seconds." Jill sighed.
"That's only the first. We still have to catch the calf." Evan answered. "I can bet her in no time."
"But if she wins, it'll be a tie. There are the only two we can do."
"Well, we'll go bull riding again."
Sally got on her horse and prepared herself. She nodded and she and the calf were let out. Within several seconds, Sally had the rope around the calf's neck and she was down on the ground tying it. Evan got Diablo ready and he watched Sally. Joe walked over and sighed.
"She was pretty quick." Joe warned.
"Oh, I can beat her." Evan answered. It was Evan's turn. He raced out after the calf but it took him five seconds longer than Sally to get the calf. When Evan had tied the calf, Joe and Jill shook their heads.
"She won again." Jill said.
"No way. I want a rematch."
"No chance, Evan. I won fair and square." Sally spat.
"Come on, just one more try." Evan stated.
"No. You better let up on that ego of yours. You're not the best at everything. If you hadn't let your ego get the better of you, maybe you would have won."
Sally walked away and Jill walked after her.
"She's right. You know, when you left, you said that you wouldn't let all of this get to your head. You did. You fueled your already too large ego." Joe rebuked. "No one wants to be friends with you anymore."
Joe walked away and Evan was left alone.
"When I first started out, I let the rodeo get to my head. I lost a lot of friends. Having an ego is ok, but it becomes a real problem when you let it get too big. I let it grow till I was so full of myself, I thought I could do no wrong. Everyone tried to tell me that I was letting my ego get to me, but I didn't listen. I wish I had. One day, I was bull riding. I was so full of myself that I didn't even realize what was happening in front of me. Next thing I knew, I was in the hospital with a broken leg, busted head, and a wounded ego. Don't let yourself go down that road. You could easily die from it." Coop explained. "You may be the next me, but that doesn't mean you need to do what I did. I suggest you go make things right."
Evan nodded and he went off after his friends. He found them at the park nearby sitting in the gazebo. Evan walked in and they all looked up at him.
"I came to apologize. I'm sorry, I let my ego get in the way. I knew better, but I sure didn't act like I did. Sally, you're right. I did let it all go to my head and I landed on my butt for it. If I hadn't let my ego get the better of me, maybe I could have won. Heck, maybe we could have had more fun. Forgive me?" Evan apologized.
"I forgive you." Sally answered.
"So do we." Joe replied. They hugged each other and then went out for ice cream. Evan learned that day that having an ego is ok, but don't feed it too much because it'll kick your butt.
We are all done with the Es. Now, we are onto the Fs. Keep sending in prompts for letters K-Z. Please remember to tell me what character or characters and when you want it set.
