RWBY X Radiant Descendants part 24
I own only my characters and RD, everything else belongs to Rooster Teeth!
Cheers roared, clapping filled the air, thrill and excitement went throughout the Colosseum. The ever anticipated festival was about to commence, and the duo pair had arrived just in time to see team RUWBY in action thanks to the flight ability from one of them.
"Wow, I didn't expect this many people to show up. It looks like nearly every seat is taken." Ken said in awe, though his attention was soon caught on the fight below.
"Why do you think they need so many guards here idiot? You can try and find a seat somewhere, I'll take a spot of my own and be on the lookout." He scoffed as he walked off.
"Jeez you don't have to be so down about it." He smiled and shook his head before he went down several rows, finding a few empty seats. "Thank goodness there are some free ones still."
"Ho-ho! It seems we have another astonishing bout ahead of us, wouldn't you agree professor?" Port's voice echoed from atop, a separated part from the rest of the area within the Colosseum, gaining the boy's attention.
"Doctor." Oobleck stated in a bland tone. "And yes Peter, I think it's safe to say this match may be one of the closest we've seen in a four-on-four round of the tournament!"
"For those of you just joining us, welcome to the Vital Festival Tournament! Broadcast live from the Amity Colosseum! If this is your first time watching, allow us to break down the rules."
"The tournament is broken into three distinctive rounds, teams, doubles, and singles. Age and school year are irrelevant. In this tournament the only attribute that is being tested is, skill." Oobleck stated with a grin as he pushed back his glasses.
"Correct. The winners of this battle will elect two of their members to represent them in the doubles round, followed by the winner of that round choosing one member to advance again. The remaining combatants will then fight their way to the final bracket in the hope of achieving victory for their kingdom!" Professor Port stated with vigor.
"And yes Peter, these certainly are spectacular spectacles, on which to spectate on and I don't think anyone around the world can disagree with me on that."
"Ahhh, and why would they? Now, let us get back to the match of team RUWBY of Beacon and team ABRN of Haven."
Ken turned back to fight below, grinning and cheering on his teammates. "I know they can do this, I believe in them!"
In the arena below, Blake and Reese were dueling against each other, kicking the hoverboard back and forth between each other. The faunus soon gained the upper hand, releasing a string of attacks to push the girl back. She then sliced the board in half, which to her surprise, worked as dual pistols for Reese, who unfortunately landed harshly and causing her to lay down from the momentary pain.
Yang meanwhile traded blows with Arslan, both seemingly even with their attacks connecting and leading up to a clash of their fists, shattering the rocks around the two. The force of the impact was enough to send both melee fighters back a certain distance, but not enough to halt them from going at each other right after. With a grin on her face, Arslan managed to wrap her thread from one of the daggers she pulled out from her sleeve around Yang, binding her to allow a clean kick to the blonde warrior's stomach.
"Ngh!" She quickly recovered from the hit, gaining her footing rather easily over the ice terrain she was launched onto. She smirked just in time to block a right fist from her opponent, slightly surprising the leader of ABRN. "That hit was good, but you gotta hit better than that!" Yang brought Arslan's arm towards her, causing the girl to be yanked in her direction, allowing for the blonde huntress in training to connect her right fist and fire a charged shot from Ember Celica to launch her back.
She turned around when she noticed another member of team ABRN tried to fire at her from behind, but was immediately frozen in place by none other than Ruby Rose who had used an Ice Enhanced bullet cartridge. "Got your back sis!"
"Oh yeah? Who's got yours?" Bolin asked from behind, twirling his staff with a grin. To immediately answer his question, a black glyph formed beside him and Weiss rushed towards him, kicking the boy through it.
"My BFF!" Ruby stated with a large grin.
"No." Weiss replied coldly with a deadpanned look before running off.
"Yesss." Ruby giggled before following in her direction.
The young Schnee dashed over a glyph she formed, getting a fast hit over Bolin. Grunting from the hit, the boy narrowed his eyes and got onto his feet, twirling his staff over his head to counter another hit from her. Seeing that he was holding his stance, Weiss formed a glyph behind herself to give Ruby a heightened jump boost.
With a battle cry, the young Rose began to spin in midair, bringing down her weight along with Crescent Rose onto the boy's staff, causing the ground beneath him to partially shatter from the impact force. Feeling slightly annoyed that he didn't budge, she fired a shot from her weapon to push her back and temporarily have him lose his balance and footing.
Bolin groaned as he got back onto his feet, spotting something past the two girls that ignited an idea in his mind. With a small grin, the boy dashed towards the pair, immediately ducking under an ice shard attack from the Schnee and flipping over horizontal scythe attack.
"Whaaat?" The young leader frowned, looking over to Weiss.
Bolis smashed off a heated rock piece from the terrain, turning over to one of his teammates that was nearby. "Reese, heads up!" He then tossed the fractured piece over to her, to which the girl caught with a grin of her own. She turned back to Blake, slamming the piece into her hoverboard which changed it's color to a dim red one, indicating it was temporarily infused with fire, surprising the young faunus.
Reese gave her a small wink before she hovered over to Nadir, melting the ice that had held him in place for some time.
Ken was genuinely surprised at seeing how both teams were interacting with one another, seeing how they would try and back up their teammate. "While Team ABRN is struggling a bit against them, they are doing well somewhat as a team and utilizing the terrain to an advantage. Still, seeing how the others fight so far, it kinda reminds me of how my comrades and I chained our attacks together and backed each other up..Hm, that gives me an idea actually.." The boy smiled at the thought that began to brew in his head.
Reese rushed with her board back towards Blake, bringing her weight onto it as she pushed it against her. Seeing what the emerald haired girl was planning on doing, Blake used her semblance to move out of the way, surprising Reese into coming onto an ice pillar directly in front of her and shattering through it. The Belladonna smiled as she was appreciating the extra training she had done over the break.
Frowning that she hadn't gotten her target, Reese began to chase after her once again, but was unaware that her opponent already had a plan set just for her. Blake launched Gambel Shroud onto a more distance ice block, using it to move her across with relative ease ahead of the girl into baiting her to follow. She then quickly set a perfect clone of herself near the edge of the ring and moved in front of a large ice pillar next to the clone.
Confident that the faunus was unaware of her, Reese smirked as she went in for her surprise attack, only to quickly realize that Blake had vanished upon her fire board attack, and a very recognizable weapon moved right in front of her. As soon as Gambel Shroud pierced through the ice chunk she faced, she yanked as far back as she could, having Reese crash into it and lose her hoverboard. Not one to miss her chance, Blake brought her weapon back and kicked the girl right in her stomach, launching her out of the arena.
"Ooooh, double whammy! Reese Chloris is eliminated by ring out and aura level!" Port shouted.
"Ohh, she really should have worn a helmet!" Oobleck replied with a grin.
Having one less teammate around slightly annoyed the leader of ABRN. She was using her daggers to move around the terrain to back up her remaining team members with Yang in hot pursuit, firing her shots backwards to give her momentum.
Nadir and Bolis on the other hand were struggling against the IceFlower pair, being crashed together by a gravity glyph. Weiss kept going with more of them, repeatedly crashing the two against each other before creating an Ice based glyph, encasing the two boys in a large boulder of ice that began to roll its way away from the center of the arena.
Arslan rolled her eyes and sighed, noticing just how badly the two were doing without help. She quickly went ahead of the boulder, taking her monk like stance and having it come close to her. Once it was, she brought enough force onto her extended palm to completely shatter it, releasing her teammates from their icy prison.
Weiss watched in surprise, but quickly came to her senses as this was the perfect moment to win the match. "Yang!" She called out to her, brushing her rapier across the icy terrain and forming a slide. "Now!"
The blonde nodded, firing from Ember Celica in the same way, sliding across it as Blake caught up to her, tossing her weapon towards Yang to grab onto. She then brought all the strength she could to lunge her partner off the slide at the same time she jumped off the ground and towards Ruby. The young leader grinned and pushed against Crescent Rose as hard as she could to push off Blake and in turn, bring Yang over her shoulder to collide against Team ABRN, using her full force to knock all three members out of the arena.
"Yes!" She cheered as the buzzard rang over the stadium, looking back to her teammates who were all cheering as well.
"And with that, Team RUWBY is victorious!" Port called out, gaining massive cheering from the people in the seats.
Ken couldn't help but have a large grin on his face. His teammates did really well and were able to move onto the Doubles Round. "That really was something to watch. Guess I should head on down and congratulate them." The boy got out of his seat and went down the steps, waving at the four. "Hey! Great job out there!"
The girls turned to his voice, waving back with smiles of their own. "We did iiiiitttt!" Ruby cheered ever so loudly.
"Aww yeah, can't wait to see who we're up against later!" Yang grinned as she cracked her knuckles.
"Hmph, well I suppose we'll call it a job well done." Weiss said with the roll of her eyes.
"Mhm." Blake nodded in agreement.
The swordsman jumped down in front of the first row of seats to make it faster reaching the four. "You were all really great out there, I'm impressed!"
"Aww it was nothing heheh." Ruby blushed from the compliment.
"Almost thought you weren't gonna make it and see us." Yang snickered as she wrapped an arm around his neck, making light jabs at his stomach.
"Sorry, I was out in town getting some weapons for Nega."
"Nega? You mean he's here in the stadium too?" Weiss asked in surprise.
"Yeah, he's up there somewhere acting as a special guard to make sure nothing goes wrong. Though I don't think he's going to come down here and congratulate you all."
"Man he's such a downer, but I guess I get it. He's gotta do his job and all." Yang shrugged. "Anyway, I'm hungry after that fight so let's go get something to eat!"
"I'm not hungry myself, but I'll gladly come along." Ken chuckled.
"Fooooood…" Ruby groaned at the mention of it, her stomach rumbling.
"Very well, since we did so well, I suppose eating something now isn't quite a bad idea." Weiss added.
"I don't mind eating right now." Blake nodded.
"Then that settles it! Alright everyone, let's get outta here and grab some food!" The golden warrior pumped her fist in the air. The other team members nodded and proceeded to leave, with Ken staying behind for a few more seconds, gazing at the top row of the stadium. "…..I really hope nothing happens here... I'm counting on you Nega."
The boy watched the five make their leave from his position. "Hmph...they're not bad I guess. These other matches better be as 'entertaining', otherwise I'll be bored out of my damn mind while I have to stay here and act as an extra watch." He closed his eyes briefly, sighing. "I know we won't have to wait much longer before that damn demon decides to show up."
Shortly after parting from the stadium, the five made it to the Fare Grounds where many stands were available to obtain food from. Ruby continued to complain about the rumble in her stomach, much to Weiss' disliking. "Uggghhh…is anyone else starviiiiing?"
"I'm pretty sure all of you are Ruby." The young swordsman replied. "Oh and I was going to ask this later, but I guess now is fine too. Who should we have represent us in the Doubles Round?"
The four girls glanced at each other after hearing his question, wondering the same thing. "Well we obviously need the strongest choice right? I should be one of the two going in." Yang grinned.
"Ugh, you brute." The Schnee sighed. "Though I suppose it would be a good idea for you to move on."
"I have no objections." Blake added, trusting her partner.
"Whaaaa? You're all voting for Yaaaang?" Ruby pouted. "Fiiiine, she can go, but who will be the second person?"
At that, Yang turned to Ken with a confident smile. "I think he should go, after all he didn't get to fight with us so it's fair game if he gets to now."
"Huh? Are you sure you want me to fight with you?" He asked in surprise.
"Of course, what you got a problem with that?"
He shook his head. "Not at all, I'll be looking forward to seeing how well we fight together against whoever we get paired up against. To be honest...seeing you all fight in sync like that, made me remember how my comrades and I did the same."
"Oh…" She said softly, knowing that had brought down his mood a little. "H-hey, don't sweat it Ken, I bet that we'll find a way for you to see them again! We can start after the Vytal Festival is over, right girls?"
The three nodded, gaining a faint smile from the boy. "My sis is right Ken, we'll help you out! We're gonna beat up that Aster guy too!"
"I really hope it doesn't come down to that, but if it does...I think you'll be ready to hold your own against him, as a team. Sorry for kind of ruining the moment, you all were hungry right? We can talk about this later, first you need to fill up on something!"
"Yeah, you're right Ken, sorry about that." Yang smiled sincerely, resting her hand over his shoulder. "C'mon, I know just the place where we can get a good fill on food." She pointed ahead as she lead the team, though the rest were unaware that Weiss had fallen just a but behind due to being upset at her father calling her.
"Hey, might be hard to eat without this." A voice called from behind the five, having them look back to see Emerald holding a wallet between her fingers. At this, the poor leader frantically checked around her pockets, unable to believe that her wallet had fallen out.
Seeing how she was reacting, Emerald giggled as she handed back the wallet. "Good to see you Ruby."
"Oh, thanks Emerald! Ugh, guess I dropped it...girl pockets are the worst."
Yang approached the two with a grin, patting Ruby's shoulder in comfort. "What's up Em?"
"Oh, just left the stadium after watching your amazing fight. You guys were awesome!"
"Oh stop it asdfghjkl..." Ruby blushed from the compliment to her team on how well they did.
"I heard your team progressed to the next round too." Blake said as she, Weiss and Ken caught up to the sisters.
"You know, it feels like we never see our own teammates." Weiss added.
"How did they do in the fight?"
"Hmm...I'd say really well." She moved her arms behind her back, smiling.
"That's great! Hey, why don't we go get some victory food together?" Ruby asked.
"Oh...gosh, that's so nice of you, but...my teammates are all kind of... introverted." She worded out as she turned to her partner, Mercury, to which the five turned to look at. Seeing someone smelling the inside of boots definitely seemed strange to most.
'Wait a minute, that's the guy who gave up on our sparring match...' Ken thought as he crossed his arms. 'If they really are moving on to the Doubles and possibly Singles Round, I should prepare just in case if we bump into them.'
"So yeah, looks like Merc and I are gonna be moving out to the Doubles Round, what about you guys?" Emerald asked the team, knocking the swordsman train of thought away.
"We decided that Yang and Ken should go for us." Blake turned to her partner, gesturing to her and the emerald-eyed warrior.
"Yeah, we're gonna kick some butt!" Yang said enthusiastically.
"I'll admit, I'm looking forward to whoever we end up fighting against. I don't often get a chance to test a lot of my skills against other people." Ken clenched his left fist, forming a faint but confidant smile.
Emerald chuckled at the two, nodding. "Well, if Mercury and I see you down the line don't think we'll go easy on ya."
"Wouldn't have it any other way."
"He owes me an actual fight after he backed out from getting a few hits back in the classroom." Ken said loud enough for the silver haired boy to hear. "If we do fight against each other, you better not give up again."
"Alright, well we're gonna go catch some more fights." Emerald said, waving to them before walking away.
"Have fun!" Ruby waved back as the five went in a different direction from the two.
Once they were certain that the group was out of their sight when they looked back briefly, Mercury glanced at her with a smirk. "So, how are the new "friends"?"
"I hate them." She replied with a cold tone, immediately dropping her fake smile.
"Orders are orders." He shrugged.
"I just...how can they be SO happy ALL the time?"
"Tsk, from the looks of it at least that kid's gonna be a problem. Who else is going to be with him?"
"The bimbo." She rolled her eyes.
"Alright, at least now we know who we're working with."
The five students made their way over to one of the food stands to fill up after the fight, with the exception of the swordsman who politely declined again saying that he hungry. Yang rolled her eyes and had him stay next to her anyway so he wouldn't wander off with curiosity. "I'll have a bowl of the regular please." She said with a grin.
"Oooh.." Her younger sister glanced over to the large bowl Yang was served. "I'll have the same please!" She smiled wide as the same sized bowl of noodles was served to her.
"Do you have anything with low salt-" Weiss was going to say but was interrupted by the same bowl, surprising her with a small gasp. "Umm..."
Ken had to hold back a laugh at her reaction. He could tell Weiss wanted to watch her figure, but it couldn't be helped this time.
Blake however, gave the old man a simple nod with a smirk on her face. Within seconds he went into the shop and came back with a large bowl, holding numerous amounts of fish. The four turned to her realizing it made sense given who Blake was, she just couldn't win against fish.
Weiss rolled her eyes and took out her credit card, smiling.
"Aww Weiss, what's the occasion?" Yang asked as she glanced at her.
"Consider it as thanks for how hard we've all had to work and making it to the Doubles Round."
"I would be the ones treating you all to this for everything." Ken smiled. "Though I guess I can't since I used the Lien I had to buy Nega a few weapons before we went to go watch your match." He did have just a spare amount of it, but he wasn't certain if 500 Lien would cover for the food.
At the mere mention of weapons, Ruby turned to the boy with a large grin, fully interested in knowing what they were. "Really!? What weapons were they!? How do they work!? Are they also a gun!?"
"Whoa, whoa easy there Ruby! I can only answer a question at a time." He laughed. "The weapons we got for him were a sword that can fire bullets if needed, a bow with a set of arrows, and a scythe. I have the first two weapons with me so he wouldn't have to carry all of it himself at the moment."
Just as he finished talking, the credit card was tossed back to the spot right in front of Weiss, surprising them.
"What!? How could my card be declined!?" She looked at the register in shock. " was barely into my monthly allowance…"
He could see the disappointment in Yang's face, and a bit of anger coming from Ruby which was a bit surprising since he would rarely ever see her get angry about something. Meanwhile Blake...yeah she knew that her fish would be taken away, to which it immediately was.
"Noo…." She laid her head down in sadness.
Ken's senses told the boy that several people were approaching him, faint traces of aura he was familiar with. He turned around and smiled at the approaching Team JNPR. "Oh, hey! Nice seeing you all drop by."
"Likewise." Pyrrha smiled in amusement. "We heard of the small... dilemma here. Maybe I can be of help?"
"Pyrrha!" Ruby shouted in glee.
He chuckled a bit at the sudden outburst from their leader.
"Aww, you don't have to." Yang stated with a small wave of her hand.
"But she could!" Blake said from across with a frown. She really wanted her fish.
"Well, I think you've all earned it after that battle." The redhead champion rolled her eyes, never losing her smile.
"Mind if we join you?" Jaune asked as they sat on the other side.
"Not at all Jaune, the more the merrier right?" The swordsman said. "I'm not hungry, but they sure are. Thanks again for coming to our aid Pyrrha."
"It was my pleasure." She handed her credit card to the old man after ordering four bowls of noodles. Blake was thanking her several times once her bowl of fish was returned to her, and both teams began to go into town on their food, with the exception of Pyrrha and Ren who ate at a more modest pace.
'This really does remind me of them.' Ken thought to himself. 'I have to be on alert as much as I can...The churning in my stomach for not telling the others hurts, but I know I just can't tell them yet. We'll stop them both, we have to. Though, why do I have this weird feeling...that even I'm being kept in the dark about something...'
Fortunately after he shrugged off those thoughts, he noticed that everyone had finished eating. Were they really that hungry or did he simply think too hard without noticing?
"Are you sure it was wise to have eaten before a fight?" Ren asked his team members.
"Of course, it will give us energy." Pyrrha nodded, but along with everyone, was surprised by the sudden loud burp caused by Nora.
Jaune on the other hand, groaned from having to have eaten so much, and decided to lay his head down. "If I barf I'm blaming you..."
"Oh! Aim it at the enemy!" Nora smirked.
"Nora, that's disgusting, but if you do feel the urge."
"Got it."
Ken shuddered at the thought of seeing that happen. It wasn't a good idea to do honestly, but he could see some form of merit to doing something like that.
"Well, we should be off." Nikos told her teammates as she rose from the stool.
"So, you guys think you're ready?" Ruby asked with a curious look on her face.
"Of course! We got a world renowned fighter on our team, what's practically a ninja, I can bench five of me! Jaune who's totally so much better now! We've trained for a long time and our weapons are awesome! Glynda barely yells at us anymore too!" Nora practically rambled praise about their team.
"True, Jaune has become a better swordsman thanks to Pyrrha and me giving him a lot of lessons on his stance, his footwork, how to block and react to incoming or fast attacks and things like that." Ken nodded, patting the team leader on his shoulder. "I know you're all going to do a great job in your match and I can't wait to see how hard the lessons will pay off."
The blonde swordsman groaned and slowly raised a thumbs up to him, earning several laughs.
She had to agree to his statements as well. She knew he was an excellent leader and was more than happy to see that over time, his skills were growing better and better with both of their help.
"So yeah, we're feeling pretty good." Ren added with a nod.
Shortly after, an intercom was turned on with the announcement of Team JNPR needing to report to the Colosseum for their match to begin.
"Well, it looks like this is it." Pyrrha smiled as the rest of her team nodded in agreement, pulling away from stand.
"Heh, good luck out there. I know you all can win this." Ken stood up and grinned, giving the team a thumbs up. The four waved back to them as they walked to the battle grounds. He turned back to his teammates and crossed his arms. "So, what do you all want to do now that you're full?"
"I think we should go cheer them on, seems fair." Yang suggested as she got up.
"Yeah! I want to see how they do!" Ruby chimed in as she pumped her fist in the air.
"I suppose we could." Blake nodded, turning to Weiss who agreed.
"Well, Pyrrha DID pay for our meal so we should return that kindness in turn." She sighed.
"Then it's settled. Let's go after them and cheer them on."
Once they entered the stadium and took their seats, the young swordsman placed two fingers beside his left ear as he turned to look towards the top rows. 'Any sign of him while we were gone?'
'Tsk, no nothing yet, that damn thing knows how to hide like a rat. It doesn't help with all these people here that I can't easily pinpoint any mana since it's snuffed out by all this aura.'
'Yeah, my senses don't pick up on anything other than that so either that demon can hide his mana presence like Aster, or it isn't being around knowing that we would be.' Ken sighed.
'That damn thing is smart, and if it was causing any trouble outside in Vale there would have been some kind of ruckus with how these people react. It's taunting us, waiting... waiting for the right moment to catch us off guard and strike. Tsk, I hate this.'
'I do too, but we have to be on guard for as long as we can. Even if he's playing the waiting game, so is Aster, and we have to be ready for them. Worst comes to worst, they'll both come at us at the same time. Remember on what we agreed to do after this.'
'Yeah yeah, training me on unlocking that magic stuff. The sooner it's done, the better. Abyss out.'
The boy nodded and lowered his hand as he turned back to the fight that would soon begin. While he wasn't showing it, he was afraid. Afraid of what would happen once they made themselves known to him again. He wasn't going to give them another chance to escape the next time, nor would Nega. The next time they met, he would end things, he had to.
Hey everyone, I know it's been a very, very long time since I last updated this story. So much has happened since then, and a lot has caused me to stray from this story, and one of the most recent reasons was of course, the quarantine. After so many attempts to come back to this, after talking to some of my friends, I finally got my inspiration back. That's right, I AM coming back and I WILL finish this story. So many things I wanted to write down kept playing in my mind over and over again, and so it's time to finally get them out.
The next chapter starts the fight with Team JNPR, but many twists and turns will also come starting it. I always had a main goal for writing this merge of worlds, and I will stick to that goal. Though I think I should leave it up to all of you to wonder just what kinds of twists will make their way in nyehehehe.
