RWBY: Keep Moving Forward
Chapter 21
The next day in class, Dean's scroll buzzed. Pulling it out, Dean saw a message from Junior.
There's someone you need to come talk to. It's important. -J
Confused, Dean closed his scroll and put it away.
A few hours later
Arriving at Junior's bar, Dean walked inside. Glancing around the room, Dean spotted Junior sitting at a booth. Walking over, he saw someone else was sitting across from him. A Faunus woman. "This the person you wanted me to see?" Dean asked.
The woman slowly looked back at Dean. She seemed familiar, but he couldn't quite place where he's seen her before.
"You're okay!" the woman said as she got up and pulled Dean into a hug.
"Agh, hey!" Dean pulled himself free. "What the hell? Junior, who is this?"
"She's your mom." Junior told him bluntly.
Glaring at Junior, Dean felt a massive urge to hit him. "The hell kinda joke is this?! My mom's dead!"
"Dean..." the woman said softly.
"Just look at her." Junior told Dean.
Shifting his gaze to the woman, he was about to yell at her when he realized it was, indeed, his mom. A lot more frail and skinny, but it was her.
"Mom..?" Dean said softly.
As Abi's eyes filled with tears, a million questions flooded Dean's mind. "How are you-? I thought you were- I heard the gunshots..!"
"I'll explain everything." Abi said as she sat down in the booth.
Sitting down across from her, Abi began to explain as Junior went to get her some food.
"The night we were attacked." Abi began. "When you and your sister ran upstairs, those Faunus hunters broke in though the front door. They shot your father. Then me." Abi told her son. "Your father died immediately. As I lay on the ground, bleeding out, one of them aimed their gun at my head. Before he pulled the trigger, another one of them stopped him. 'Don't waste the bullet. Let it die like the animal it is'." Abi repeated the words that were said to her. "When they ran out to chase after you and your sister, leaving me to die in the burning house, a piece of wood that was on fire landed next to my head. I used it to cauterize the gunshot wound."
"I...thought you died." Dean said again.
As the two fell silent, Abi asked a question. "Is...is your sister still..?"
"She's gone." Dean told her. "She helped me hide, then they hunted her down and killed her." he suddenly clenched his fists as Abi wiped her eyes. "But it's fine. I'm hunting down every single one of the bastards that tore our lives apart. They all have a debt that needs to be paid: blood for blood."
Abi looked towards her son. "Good."
