Izuku was having a nice night's sleep, warmly cuddling with his girlfriend. No stress no nightmares no nothing, just blissful ignorant sleep.
Momo on the other hand was having a much more interesting night. She was in some black void standing in a line with 8 other people she had never seen before. Well one looked kind of familiar, it was vaguely shaped like Toshinori. She looked down realizing she didn't have a mouth only part of her head and her right hand had formed, the rest of her was this shapely black cloud. When she looked up one of the other people had approached her and were holding out his hand. The figure spoke 4 simple words before their hands touched. "So you're ... the ninth."
She awoke instantly to the sound of shattering glass and various things around her room were destroyed. When she looked down at her hands she saw this blackish looking substance pouring from her. To her right Izuku had jumped awake immediately taking a battle stance. "What's wrong Momo are we under attack?"
She looked down at her hand and the black like substance had disappeared. "I don't know Izu I think that was me. I just had a really weird dream." She looked around the now destroyed room. "I think One for All just spoke to me, there were eight other people and one of them looked a lot like Toshinori-san."
"Well that's fucking creepy Momo. We should definitely ask All Might about that, he's had the quirk for like 40 years so something similar has probably happened to him as well. You know One for All breaks every known law of quirks and it frankly annoys the shit out of me. Everytime I think i'm getting closer to figuring out the truth behind quirks yours just comes in and slaps me in the face for ever thinking I could do that. Now apparently it lets you talk to dead people. I'm going back to sleep we can worry about the room tomorrow." Izuku just threw his hands up in resignation to the fact he will never understand how One for All works.
Momo grabbed her boyfriend pulling him close. "Please let's just stay like this for a bit. Everything is moving so fast and we're being hunted by murderers, I have the power of the number 1 hero and now apparently the souls of the dead are in this quirk. I'm really scared Izuku."
Izuku didn't respond verbally he just started patting her head trying to calm his girlfriend down, he knew the stress was getting to her hell it was getting to him. They thankfully managed to fall asleep shortly after that outburst, they definitely weren't ready to face tomorrow but it's going to come all the same.
Izuku and Momo were waiting for All Might outside the 1-A dorms. It was time for Izuku to visit Tartarus since he wanted to make sure he got people their quirks before internships tomorrow. When Toshinori arrived he was surprised to see Young Momo as well, Young Izuku didn't mention her coming at all this time. "Oh will you be joining us Young Yaoyorozu?"
"I wasn't planning on it originally but we need to talk about you know what Toshinori. Something happened last night." Momo gave him a serious look.
"Very well but please wait until we reach the car to start speaking about that Young Yaoyorozu, are you both ready? Good then let us depart. Oh by the way it bears mention the police did not capture the league the places young Hagakure mentioned had long since been abandoned. It's what we had expected but it's disappointing to hear regardless." The skeleton of a man led them to the familiar junky station wagon that the number 1 drove. Once inside and seated he spoke again. "So what did you need to talk about young miss?"
"All Might has One for All ever shown you visions? I'm pretty sure it showed me all the previous users last night and I'm pretty sure the person who was the first talked to me." Momo looked at the man questioningly.
Toshinori sputtered. "Holy crap that's scary."
Momo paled she wasn't expecting that. "So you haven't?"
"No I have not Young Yaoyorozu although my master mentioned something similar once. The quirk has vestiges of the previous users left in it so to speak. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, just take it as a sign your control over the quirk is growing."
Izuku threw his hands up. "I give up, One for All doesn't make any sense. I'm just not going to bother anymore. Good lucky figuring out anything about that stupid quirk Momo."
Toshinori scratched his head. "I suppose some things in life are just that way Young Midoriya, anyway were here let's do what we came to do and leave quickly."
Back at the dorms Izuku was sitting at 14 quirks, which while uncomfortable made him really happy as it proved he could still raise his limit further. He opened up the group chat once he reached the dorms, it was around 7pm now and he was tired plus he wanted this headache to go away.
Group chat opened
Cinnamon Bun: Shinsou Iida and Koda please come to the common room I need to get rid of these quirks asap, my head is screaming.
Disney Princess: *Thumbs up emoji
Iida Tenya: I shall make my way there with haste Izuku.
Misdirection: i'll be there in a minute, im petting my cat right now
How is Koda silent even when it's over text. Izuku just dropped into the couch holding his head in his hands, thankfully it didn't take long for Tenya to arrive. Izuku held out his hand gesturing for the boy to take it, which he did. "It's called Air Step, it lets you run in the air but be careful the more you do it the more muscle fatigue sets in and I don't want you dropping out of the sky and hurting yourself so stick to the ground until you've got a good understanding of it."
"Of course Izuku I shall do my best to train with this quirk, I shall not disappoint you." Tenya saluted Izuku before turning.
As he left Koda and Shinsou arrived, Izuku went through the motions with both of them explaining the quirks and how they worked before walking off to bed, thankful that his migraine was gone. He collapsed quickly, he felt Momo join him later but he was too tired to even care.
The next morning it was finally time for the internships to begin so they both grabbed their hero cases and walked down the stairs to their first destination which was Hagakure's room. They knocked on arrival before giving her the news about the league having bailed before the police could catch them, the girl to her credit just shrugged and said. "Yeah that's about what I expected, he hasn't been around as long as he has for show. All for One is intelligent more so than anything else. Don't worry you two we'll get the bastard but go away first I was in the middle of a shower."
The door was unceremoniously shut in their face after the girl left Momo spoke first. "She's um abrasive. Anyway you still need to talk to Todoroki yes? I can meet you downstairs before we all take the buses to the train station together if you want?"
"Yeah that's fine with me, to be honest I'm just expecting Todoroki to ask for a quirk or something. That's all anyone asks me for anymore." Izuku threw his hands up in defeat.
"That's your fault dear and you know it." The girl gave him a very unconvincing smile.
"...Yeah ...I know but I'm still going to keep doing it. Anyway I'll see you downstairs." Izuku turned off and went for the icy haired boy's room in question.
Once he arrived at the room he realized he'd never been in it before but once it had opened in response to his knocking he saw just how Japanese the room was, like how do you even remodel a room on the 3rd floor this heavily?
"Good morning Midoriya, I'm assuming you're here to talk? We have some time before we must leave, I'll make tea please come in." Todoroki spoke as monotone as ever Izuku realized.
"Sure." Izuku walked into the room and took the glass handed to him before speaking again. "So what did you want to talk about Todoroki?"
"I wanted to ask you about the offer you made a while back, about being friends? I've been thinking about it for a long time and I've realized that I wasn't acting in a healthy manner before. Especially once I realized that in my efforts to shun my father that I had no one else in my life and well you've been really nice so I figured I should at least give it a shot." Todoroki was internally screaming, he'd never had a friend before is this how one acts? Should I even be asking like this? What if he says no?
His face however remained as neutral as ever. The boy in front of him just started laughing. "Todoroki you don't have to be so uptight I've at least thought of us as decent friends already. Hear I thought you were going to ask for another quirk or something. People have been seriously bugging me about getting fast tracked to the top of my list. They've even been giving me gifts and stuff, it's getting kinda creepy honestly. But to answer your question I'd gladly be your friend Todoroki. Welcome to the group we've got me, Momo, Tenya, Tsu, Uraraka, and Kirishima and also now you." Izuku struck his hand out for the other boy to take which he did after staring at it for a few seconds.
"Is there anything else you needed Todoroki, we're cutting it kind of close for our internships. Speaking of which who did you go with?" Izuku took a deep sip of his tea, it was Oolong and pretty good honestly.
"I decided to go with my father, he's the best choice if I wanted to learn more about my quirk plus he's been oddly... nice lately? It's been really weird he hasn't been pressuring me or anyone else in the house." Todoroki barely managed to dodge the projectile tea being spat into his face.
Recovering after spitting out his tea Izuku shouted. "WAIT WHAT?! Why him? Also sorry about the tea." He rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment.
"Like I said he's the best option to learn about my quirk and he is the number 2 after all. If I was able to look past the hatred of my quirk I can look past my hatred of him." Todoroki explained to the shocked boy in front of him.
"Well alright but if anything and I mean anything happens contact me or Nedzu. We're here for you I promise. But anyway let's get out of here, got your costume?" Izuku smiled at the boy before standing and walking to the door.
"Yeah I got it Midoriya and yes let us depart." Todoroki grabbed the case under his bed before joining Midoriya at the door.
Izuku saw his usual group plus Hagakure all standing together in the common room so he figured now was as good a time as any to introduce Todoroki to the group.
"Hey guys Todoroki's gonna be hanging out with us from now on. Is that cool with all of you?" Izuku knew it would be but asking was better than not asking.
"I'm fine with it but how the fuck did you convince Icy Hot to socially interact with people?" Hagakure asked with her new dialect, which Izuku was still really not used too.
"I mean we've kinda talked off and on for a while and I did help him with his quirk so I just it kinda just happened?" Izuku shrugged.
"I speak for all of us present in that saying we welcome you with open arms Todoroki. If you are a friend of Izuku's then you are a friend of mine." Iida bowed after speaking.
"Yeah I'm fine with that kero. We also kinda added Hagakure when you were gone. She said something about needing to get close to her future weapon or something." The frog girl tilted her head doing that motion where she puts her finger on her mouth, which Izuku found adorable honestly. It was kind of like when a puppy tilts their head at you.
"HEY! He doesn't need to know that!" The ghostly pale girl screamed at Tsu.
"I mean Momo would've probably just told him anyway Kero." The frog girl shrugged.
Momo just sighed, their friend group was rapidly expanding it seemed. "I mean she's not incorrect."
Kirishima smiled. "Well I'm fine with it, welcome bros and brosettes!"
Everyone then turned to the only person who had yet to speak only to notice that she was definitely not paying attention. "Uh earth to Chaco you in there?" Spoke the visible girl.
Uraraka shook her head bringing herself out of her thoughts. "Yeah that's fine sorry I was just thinking about some stuff." Her face visibly brightened but Izuku could easily tell it was faked. "Anyway guys it's time for our internships I'm so excited! Although my case is a lot heavier after I got that collapsible staff added but I guess I can just float it huh."
"You must be really excited if you forgot about your quirk Ochako kero."
He really needed to talk to her at some point but Izuku's just been so busy he hasn't had a chance too.
Thankfully all their introductions and the suddenly awkward situation were alleviated by their teacher arriving and basically ordering them out of the building and into the waiting bus.
"Remember all of you wearing your costumes before you reach your internship is strictly prohibited so I better not hear about any of you doing that. That said all of you better be on your best behaviour your representing U.A. and if you act like a fool it will look poorly on us. See you in a week." Aizawa dismissed them before walking off.
Izuku was about to take Momo's hand and walk off towards their train but he was stopped by Tenya. "Izuku I wish to thank you once more for saving my brother. I will be spending my internship in Hosu so I may have a chance to meet up with you two since you won't be very far away. I wish you both the best."
Izuku didn't like the look on Tenya's face for a second there. "Tenya, if something is bothering you, you can tell us you know that?"
Izuku faced his friend's face change rapidly to something much brighter. "Of course I would Izuku and you too Yaoyorozu. There is nothing wrong with myself. I merely have some planning to do once I arrive in Hosu but I do not need any help with that." The engine user turned and walked away after that.
Momo watched the figure of their friend slowly disappearing. "I don't like the looks of that Izu."
"Me neither Momo. Did you know the hero killer always kill four heroes before changing areas?" Izuku had been researching the man due to his rising popularity.
"What does that have to do with anything Izuku?" Momo stared at him puzzled.
"He's only killed in Hosu twice Momo. I want to think Tenya is smarter than that but I don't know... Should we tell someone?"
Momo's eyes widened in shock. "There's - there's no way Iida would do that." The girl wasn't sure whether or not she was trying to convince Izuku or herself.
"I'm going to send a text to All Might and Nedzu just in case. If something happened to him I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I did nothing." Izuku pulled out his phone before sending both the principal and All Might a quick text that simply read "Worried Iida is going after Stain, he was acting strangely and mentioned 'plans' in Hosu. I want to be wrong but there's just this gut feeling I'm having."
He got a response immediately from the principal. "I will monitor him on the cameras in Hosu, thank you for telling me about this Izuku."
All Might didn't respond so Izuku figured he must be busy.
"Well that's the best we can do. Let's go before we miss our train Momo." Izuku grabbed her by the hand before walking off. There were on the train headed to the Yamanishi Prefecture where the man named 'Gran Torino' lived when suddenly someone grabbed him and Momo by the shoulder.
"Oh my gosh it is you two! Your the two who got to the finals of the Sport's Festival. You got 1st and 2nd I'm such a big fan of yours would you give me an autograph?" At his shouting everyone in the train car suddenly noticed them and began cheering for them.
Izuku functionally shut down when people around him started complimenting them but Momo was the one to remain composed for once. "I thank you all for your words of encouragement and if you give us a pen and paper we would gladly sign any autographs." Momo smiled brightly as a small girl came up to her.
"Can I have one miss? I want to be a hero just like you when I grow up!" The girl in question was staring brightly at her.
"Of course dear, what's the name of little miss hero?" Momo began writing on the notebook the girl handed her. She signed it 'Deva the Black Thunderbolt. Thanks for all your support, she paused waiting for the girls name.
"Oh my name is Yui, thanks Ms. Deva" The girl squealed holding the notebook to her chest before running off.
Izuku stared in awe as his girlfriend completely changed her persona becoming much more business like, holding off the crowd with what looked like practiced ease. Once the crowd had finally dissipated. "Momo where did you learn how to do that? I figured you would be even worse than me at stuff like this."
"Jealous Izuku? And no it's nothing special I was just lectured and taught how to act in a public setting from a young age. Super rich parents and all that."
Oh right how did he forget he's basically dating a noble.
They arrived at the location in question only to find a beat up apartment complex with boarded up windows and several cracks in the wall.
Momo had never seen a such a poor house in her life, her parent's would probably get angry with her if they saw she was about to enter such a dilapidated building. "Are you sure this is the place Izuku? Why would a famous pro hero live in a house such as this?"
Izuku just shrugged. "No idea but this is definitely it." He looked at the note confirming the address before stepping up to the door and knocking.
After ten seconds had passed they shared a look before Momo hesitantly reached for the door before opening it. "It's Yaoyorozu and Midoriya. We're here for the internships. Is anyone here?" She called out to the room before noticing the body on the floor covered in blood. "AHHHHH HE'S DEAD!"
Izuku jumped into the room after hearing that preparing for a fight. He was even more startled when the body? Got back up screaming "I'm Alive!"
Momo just continued screaming while Izuku rushed over to the old man. "Sir are you okay? Do I need to get medical aid?"
The man in question used his cane to wobbly stand up. "To slip and fall while carrying sausage covered sausages how clumsy of me. Who are you?"
"Oh were the people you sent that internship request too." Izuku turned around to make sure his girlfriend was okay, which she had gained control of her breathing so that's kind of a win.
The man sat back down in the pile of ketchup. "Who?"
He took a glance back to Momo again whom he assumed was having the same thought based off of the look oh her face. I knew this guy was going to be old but he's basically gone senile. "Hey Momo watch it while I go call All Might."
He was stopped when the old man's demeanor rapidly changed. "You girl, fire off an attack with One for All at me. You All for One brat go sit in the kitchen we'll be talking in a bit."
"W-what?" Momo gulped at the sudden change.
"You heard me, throw a punch don't hold back." The man threw the costume case at her. "Get changed in the bathroom and come back here. I'm going to talk to him." He gestured at Izuku.
"Okay, I guess I'll be right back." Momo took the case and walked off.
"You, brat. You're probably wondering why I called you here." He held up his finger gesturing for him to remain silent. "I don't know what hogwash you used to win Toshinori over but if I even get a whiff that you aren't everything he told me you are I will not hesitate to put you down, do you understand? All for One killed my best friend and almost succeeded at killing Toshinori too. I will not risk another one appearing."
"Sir you seem to have the wrong opinion of me. I would never do anything like that, just because I can doesn't mean I will and quite frankly I'm getting tired of everyone around me say i'm a threat waiting to happen. I don't give a damn what you think. I am me, not All for One, not my quirk, do YOU understand?" Izuku was really getting tired of everyone getting on his case and to be honest he was this close to punting the elder man in front of him.
"Good, keep it that way. I'd hate to have to kill someone Toshinori likes so much, it would devastate the man. Anyway we will talk later I have to train Toshinori's successor, that move she used to beat you in the finals was something I thought I'd have to teach her myself in all honesty. Symbol of Peace my ass, can't even teach a child how to handle a quirk he's had for 30 odd years." He paused when Yaoyorozu entered the room. "Good, now like I said throw your best punch at me. I want to see how much of it you can control."
"Sir are you sure I don't want to hurt you." Momo thought the man looked like a strong breeze would knock him over.
Only for the man in question to suddenly start bouncing around the room at mach nine.
"Come at me, you Neophyte." The man was currently attached to the wall, it seems he has some kind of speed quirk. I should try and limit his movements but I don't think he wants me to use creation.
Izuku looked at the spectacle of the suddenly very agile man and decided it best to get himself as closest to the corner of the room as he could get before continuing to watch the two spar.
Momo charged up to 8% all over her body before preparing for Torino's approach. The man led with a feint before jumping up into the ceiling and then down kicking Momo in the head before bounding off back into the ceiling to prepare for another strike. That blow that hit her dropped her control of One for All so she needed to charge it up again but as she started charging it the man was already kicking her in the stomach.
Damn it he's so fast I need to predict where's going to come from him, she started watching the man's movements looking for a pattern she saw him land on the wall behind her before launching himself towards her back. Momo powered 8% in her arms and turned to make a grab at the man who simply jetted over her blow launching past her and then immediately back into her back pinning her to the floor.
"Alright that's enough. You've got some pretty decent control of One for All already we just need to work on your combat sense and your movements. Your incredibly stiff and you rely on your other quirk too much. We'll mainly be working on those things during your stay here." He removed himself from the girls back before changing his view to Izuku. "As for you boy I'm going to teach you how All for One fought, I battled the man on 9 separate occasions and he changed his fighting style nearly every time. How many quirks do you currently have and how do they work?"
Izuku gave the man a brief rundown of what he knew about his current 11 quirks.
"I see I noticed during the sports festival that one kid with the red hair, did you give him that quirk?" Torino asked the boy.
"Oh yes I did, why?" Izuku tilted his head.
"No nothing I was just curious. For you I think the main problem is you aren't getting quirks that compliment each other. All for One stacked his quirks, like you have one super strength quirk. What would happen if you get a second? A third? The man often did things like that, the quirk he used to murder Nana was some combination of like 5 separate quirks that he combined to fire off black lightning. Kind of similar to you girl but the lightning he fired caused plasma able to atomize stainless steel. Get what I'm saying kid? Anyway I'm going to go buy food, think about what I've said you two zygotes."
The two just watched the man leave the room. "So he's uh interesting. Did that kick to the face hurt?"
Momo was still rubbing the offending spot. "If this is his him when he's like 80 something I can't imagine how painful that would have hurt in his prime. No wonder All Might was terrified of him."
"But what he said makes sense I didn't think they'd ever stack so I never tried doing so. God my quirk is almost as infuriating as yours, everytime I think I'm starting to get a handle on how it works I'm shown just how versatile it is. I could try fusing different quirks like All for One did to create One for All, after all One for All is as strong as it is for a reason." Izuku once again lamented the fact there was no one around who could teach him about his quirk but Momo had the same issue so fairs fair I guess.
Momo meanwhile was pondering what Torino had said. "True she had next to no combat experience and she had been using guns for most of her fights. She needed some kind of physical fighting style because as of right now all she used One for All basically as a speed boost which was really selling the quirk short. Maybe she could ask Ojiro for some recommendations later on?"
Gran Torino smiled from his location outside those two caught on quick it seems.
