I'm really sorry guys. Never mind writers block, a busy schedule, and the complete lack of motivation, I should have posted another chapter by now! I'm really good Procrastinating apparently.
On another note, this will be the FINAL chapter in this story. Don't worry though, as there will be SEQUEL posted as soon as possible! That's right! The announcement you are all very patiently waited for.
Thank you so much once again for all the love and support, and now, it's time for shoutouts!
SyrupWriter- Haha! Happy you could catch some 'zzzzzzz' XD
HttydBellatrxxx- Don't worry, I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way XD
KinglyRoom56393- Welp, you never know what will happen next in my weird array of story ideas... It was a funny, random thought I had which I just had to include.
DANIELA123- I just love that you describe him as a Demi-God haha XD
PipDaddy- Thank you for the compliments! :D
Just a little note to say things in the sequel may be done differently. I have decided to proof-read my worry (finally) so I can uplevel, fix errors and add more details. I also may write the story in advance, so I will therefore have consistent days to post, rather than my current higglety-piggelty schedule XD I'm not quite sure, but I'll see how it goes!
Enjoy the final chapter guys!! *Throws you virtual popcorn*
Everything was agony, although Hiccup had to admit the dull ache he was feeling now was an improvement from the sharp pains which he had felt before he fell unconscious. Groaning, he gently lifted the blanket up and glanced at is stomach. The wound was now free from blood and stitched up like crazy. Steadying his arms and using what little strength he had, he attempted to sit up, and yelped, biting back a shout as he slid back down into his pillow, in agony once again. He squeezed his eyes tight shut, as most do to dull their body's protests, but opened them abruptly after due to the fact that all he could see was his recollection of the horror his once peaceful village had faced in the past few days- Tuffnut slumped against the back of Drago's cage; the gleaming Gronckle-iron sword being raised up High above Drago's head, glittering in the sun as it pointed to Valhalla, before it swung down and sank deep into Hiccup's stomach; the horrible dizzy sensation making him feel like he was a spinning top, followed by his vision being impaired by painful black dots, which were experienced before he fell unconscious; Drago cackling in triumph and sick happiness; the blood-curdling screams emitting from his loved ones as they flew towards him; the relapse as he relived it all just at the same time everyone figured out that the magical tear shed by his loving dragon's healing powers were only temporary; the rubble which was his villagers houses and most sacred parts of Berk, which Hiccup had sworn to protect; the dead villagers, who stared up at him with blank eyes and pained expressions, their body's covered in ash and blood...
Hiccup didn't realise what a state he had got himself into until he broke from his thought to face the present once again, and could feel his heart pounding hard against his chest like a beater on a drum. Is this what it's going to be like from now on? He thought, wincing as he did so. The world-shattering image that this would happen everyday, perhaps for the rest of his life, terrified the young chief. Remembering all the goriness. The agony. The guilt that he wasn't fully there for his people. And now they are dead. Dead, dead, dead, dead, dead...
Suddenly, a large bang threw his mind off-course, as his head shot towards the door, complaining as it did so, and a certain Nightfury bolted in and began to lick his owner with sticky, clear saliva.
Maybe it will be okay after all, he thought, as he tossed and turned, attempting to endure as little pain as possible during his fight to avoid the dragon's tongue. It's just going to take time.
...
Astrid was leaping up the stairs, three at a time as she fought to see Hiccup. Toothless had bounded past her quite early on, and as she climbed the thin, wooden staircase. She felt as if it was lasting an eternity, when in reality, it took a mere few seconds.
"Hiccup!" She yelled, when she finally pushed through the doorframe, closely followed by Valka, Fishlegs. Snotlout and the twins attempted to join them in the reunion, but was their attempts to push through the doorway all at once failed, they stared into the room as they wriggled and wiggled to escape the rather embarrassing situation they had gotten themselves into.
The Vikings stared as Hiccup twisted to get away from the slobber coating his ripped, bloody clothes.
"T-t-t-t-toothless!" He stammered, obviously too weak to speak properly. "You k-k-know that doesn't w-wash out!"
Everyone burst into laughter, and that's when they finally knew, that everything was going to be okay.
...
"Okay, we are going to take this nice and slow" Fishlegs said, as he slid his right arm through Hiccup's, Astrid doing the same on the left.
It had been two months since Drago had attacked, and the village was slowly but surely returning to normal. The huts were almost fully rebuilt, and the Great Hall was making great progress. The rubble had been moved, and the ash had cleared completely, leaving a shockingly blue sky for a place that hails nine months of the year.
The only difference was, that their chief was mainly bed-bound. Hiccup was desperate to get up and moving again, and it was on that day that the others, and Gothi, finally caved.
"And push," Hiccup used his little strength, along with the pull from the others to lift himself to his feet. Well, foot and prosthetic. He stretched his neck slightly as Valka stood behind him, arms outstretched, ready to catch him if he were to fall backwards.
The group stumbled halfway to the door, when Hiccup unlinked his arms from theirs.
"Hiccup-" Astrid began, but the chief cut her off.
"I'll be fine. Right bud?" Toothless was standing right beside him, and let out a reassuring grunt in reply, as Hiccup scratched the underside of his chin. "Let's do this," He whispered, and the pair set off, surprisingly steadily, towards the door.
After only a few stumbles, they reached the entrywayin one piece, much to Hiccup's delight. He flung the large oak door open in triumph, and there, stood the entire village, cheering as he looked out.
He was in shock, as he stared into the crowd, when Astrid came over and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"We may have told a few people you were trying this today," Astrid said happily, as she turned to face him. Hiccup laughed, then grabbed her waist gently and pulled her into a kiss. A few villagers whistled, and the pair laughed when they saw Gobber covering the younger Vikings' eyes.
The chief stepped out of the hut door for the first time in months, and felt a sense of pride as he did so. He'd done it. Finally.
"Chief Hiccup," An old man came up to them and bowed. Astrid bent down slightly, and gasped as she caught a glimpse of who was standing before her, drawing her axe in defence, Toothless growling in agreement.
"Mildew! You have ten seconds to get out of here or I will-"
"No," Hiccup placed a hand on her arm, pulling her back, shocking her. "He's a friend now."
"Are you sure about this?"
"Yes," Astrid placed her axe back in it's sheath, but continued to look suspiciously at Mildew.
"I just wanted to thank you for saving my life," Mildew said, and Fungus, his sheep, let out a 'baa' beside him. "Without you, I wouldn't be standing here today."
"Anytime," Hiccup said plainly. He was not one underfed percent sure yet either that he could put his full trust in the man either. "Now!" He bellowed outwards towards the crowd, who fell silent, and Mildew took the hint to step backwards into the group closest to the door once again. "Who fancies a feast!" The loud cheer Which emitted from the crowd signified a clear 'yes', and everyone began chatting with one another.
The rest of the dragon riders walked over and made a tight semi-circle around their chief.
"We did it," He said, and they walked down the steps, exchanging happy conversation as they made their way to the new Great Hall.
I was right, Hiccup thought, as he followed the others down the steps, lagging behind slightly. Everything is going to be alright.
...
"Hurry up, you useless pieces of dirt!!"
It was the dead of night, and men were lugging large boxes of spears, dragon-root arrows, axes, and swords, before loading them clumsily onto the vast ship in front of them.
It was unlike anything ever seen before- Dragon-proof metal created the base, which was as covered by an extra layer of wood. Chains and winches covered the deck, surrounded by launchers, bolas and cannons. The men on board were extremely heavily armed, and almost strutted around the deck sluggishly, if that's even possible, due to the sheer weight of it all.
"What exactly is the plan?" A man asked sheepishly, before scurrying backwards and returning to their post.
"The plan is already in place!" Someone bellowed, using a loud, slightly hoarse voice. "We just need to wait for it to take shape." He snarled. "We sail to Berk! And there, he will fall! Finally, the great dragon master will be no more, and everything shall be ours!" Loud whoops and hoots came from the crowd of hunters, and Drago stood, one foot up on the bow of the ship, the same sword which he had used to stab Hiccup resting ferociously on his shoulder.
"You will lose, Hiccup Haddock III. You will lose, and everything shall be mine."
I really hope you enjoyed the final chapter, and I hope to see you at 'Saving Me' in Hopefully a week's time! Thank you so much for everything- to all my readers, followers, reviewers and critiques. Have a brilliant day. Until then, this is goodbye!
