"What the fuck happened out there!?" Shigaraki asked, his voice raised and tone furious. The League of Villains were all gathered for an emergency meeting, something that set a couple of them on edge. Eros, however, was completely unbothered.
"W-We ran is all! Those X-Fuckers were way too crazy for us!"
"Real monsters those bastards."
Shigaraki cast a glance to Twice, narrowing his eyes but saying nothing. His gaze went over the room slowly, his evil crimson eyes locking on Eros. "Answer me."
Eros looked to Shigaraki, for once weighing his options. Should he continue to play the fool and aid Shigaraki is some way or another, or should he make a move right now? Psylocke was still out there, meaning that his his power was still sealed, but even then, the X-Force was down to seven members. He wanted to keep whittling that number down.
"Why ask me?"
"Because you were there, dumbass."
The oddly smug grin on Shigaraki's face told Eros that he wasn't bluffing to get him to admit something completely unexpected. He legitimately did know that Eros arrived. Exactly how would he go about that? Matter of fact, how was Shigaraki so up to date with the actions of UA High and the burgeoning generation of Heroes?
Eros blinked, his rainbow orbs fixing onto the man. He knew that the Villain had an inside source, but the only way that he could have known was if Magne or Twice had let it slip, or if Shigaraki's informant was actually someone at the scene. Perhaps a student of Ketsubutsu, or even a teacher? His eyes narrowed slightly.
"I was there, yes. I struck down Azrael and Rakshasa. What of it?"
Shigaraki's hand shot out towards him.
Using his high speed movement technique, 'Highway Star', Eros was able to avoid the attack without effort, fully aware of what his current employer's Quirk was. He had to play this smart, but not that smart. Shigaraki turned to him, and his calloused and lanky hands reached up to his neck and started scratching, something that looked like a bad habit based on the raw flesh on his neck.
Eros continued to level his seven colored gaze on Shigaraki, his inscrutable face not revealing any of the feelings running through him at the moment. He inhaled, his shoulders weaving slightly as he continued to stare.
"Remember that I don't work for you, Devil. My power is to be used in service of the Lord and in the service of those I'm indebted to. The X-Force will die no matter how much you want to make use of them."
Shigaraki grit his teeth behind his thin, chapped lips as he glared at Eros, scratching the flesh on his neck raw. He seemed consistently agitated, but he simply turned and walked off, Eros' lips tilting in a frown.
"You really got to him. I'm almost impressed." Dabi quipped later on, a smirk tugging at his patchwork lips. Eros glanced to the flaming Frankenstein, an odd thought running through his mind. "We should head back to Ketsubutsu."
A black brow rose, and Dabi tilted his head, the action looking rather eerie given the length of Dabi's neck. "Why go back there? Did you leave your wallet on one of their bodies?" he asked jokingly, and Eros felt himself chuckle. He was glad that Dabi was growing more comfortable around him. He'd hate to have to put his life in the hands of someone that he couldn't trust, much less someone that didn't trust him.
"Shigaraki's informant is there. Someone on that battlefield or surrounding it saw us fighting and told him. I want to know who."
"And how do you plan on going about it? This is a weird game of chess you're playing." Dabi mused, finding the idea rather interesting himself. He was a Villain, but even he wanted to know who could be so cold and soulless to sell all of UA High out to the enemy. He always assumed that there would be one or two defective students and a bunch of failures, but someone attending a Hero Academy being a personal informant for Shigaraki? That was beyond the scope of his assumptions.
When the next morning dawned, Eros was alone on the Ketsubutsu campus, walking about in his oddly combative garb. He blended in a little bit better with the suited Heroes and Heroes in training, and he was able to disguise himself with another one of the weaker, more minor techniques he knew.
By using what he called 'Enter The Glade', Eros was able to shift the light around him to make himself appear different. He could do everything from shift his eye color to completely flip his appearance. All he had to do was change his hair color to a fuchsia color, and his eyes to an ashen gray, and he looked like a dead ringer for Raphael's older brother. He was looking for someone, and his disguise would make it far easier to look.
"What are you doing here?"
Eros turned to the sound of the voice, noticing that through the early morning crowd and bustling halls, Shoto Todoroki fell in line with him. Eros smiled, rather glad that the one person he didn't obscure his appearance for was able to find him.
"I'm looking for Midnight. Have you seen her?"
He watched the boy's eyes narrow and brow furrow. "What do you want with her?" he asked, and Eros tilted his head slightly. Did he just hear the sound of Mammon on his voice? That would be quite the peculiar thing to hear from someone as reserved as Shoto.
"Tomura Shigaraki was aware that I arrived and interfered yesterday. Now, both Twice and Magne were sworn to silence for fear of death. That means that Shigaraki's informant is here, with you."
The hybrid Quirk user narrowed his eyes, looking to the warrior. "You think that someone who saw the fight yesterday ran to Shigaraki and told him? Why would you care?" he asked, that same defensive tone in his voice.
Eros knew that he'd have to deal with this, because of who he allied himself with. He knew that he would be impossible to trust, a villain who was wanted for property destruction and the assault of a Pro. He wasn't going to claim innocence, and he planned on paying for his sins in one way or another. But, for now, he had to gain this two toned boy's trust.
"I am a man of the Lord, like my brethren. While I might owe Shigaraki for destroying my shackles, I owe Kyoka Jiro far more for her companionship. She's just like Jebediah, an Angel of Sound that comforts others with her charms. If Shigaraki's informant is someone from UA, that puts her in danger. I would see that rat ensnared."
He watched Todoroki's eyes and face move slightly, fidgeting about as he thought about and processed what he was saying. Eros could see that he was deep in thought, but Eros wasn't one to rush him to a conclusion. Instead, he decided to amuse himself by using another of his countless recon based techniques. This one was called 'Smooth Criminal', and it allowed him to filter the light in his eyes.
By adjusting the way his eyes processed light, he was able to see things that normally wouldn't be there, such as bacteria, fingerprints, microscopic organisms and the like. He could even filter the light in his eyes so finely that he was able to see down to the last proton in the world. He used it to glance about and learn, his findings always interesting in one way or another.
"Do you have an idea of who it might be?" he asked, and Eros smiled, nodding his head. "Of course. However, be it as I am a Villain under constant scrutiny and wanted by all sides, I'll keep it to myself. Just know that if someone disappears, it's because I held their Confession."
The morning and early afternoon passed by with little to no commotion, and Kyoka Jiro found herself incredibly bored. There wasn't even a purse snatcher on the streets, much less Eros, the X-Force or the League of Villains. It was a terribly dreary patrol, especially given that during this shift, she was stuck with Till. She'd made progress with Monoma, however slight, but the European man was like a sculpture.
"You shouldn't feel so negative in mien presence. I can feel it you know." Till quipped, snapping her out of her thoughts. She looked to him as she blinked, and found herself chuckling nervously with a hand on the back of her neck. "Sorry, you're just hard to talk to is all. We probably don't have much in common besides school and Eros."
Till looked to her with that oddly dead gaze. She understood that he was an undertaker, and that he spent more time around the dead and grieving than anything else, but he was a bore.
"We could talk about either, I don't mind. I'm sure that you're always willing to talk about your dreams." he mused, his stiff walk and rigid posture painful for the girl to watch. He was truly a militant young man, and his refined white uniform was almost without a crease or wrinkle. She didn't understand how he was able to live like that. He was something else.
"What about Eros? You said that he lost control back then, changing forms? Did his Quirk have a… power up, like you guys?" she asked, and Till tilted his head.
"Eros' Quirk allowed him to have multiple forms based on what he wanted to focus on, yes. For us, we have an elevated state of being that we call 'Vollstandig'. It means 'Whole', 'Complete', maybe even 'Perfect'. So when we say our 'Vollstandig Quirk', we simply mean our whole, complete, true power." he explained, and she nodded.
She assumed as much, as they gave their powers in this elevated state a longer, more grandiose name that reflected the increase in power. Kyoka briefly wondered if she could do something like that, or if someone like Todoroki could. Would it be similar to Endeavor, where they have a physical appearance change that compliments their power? Would her 'Vollstandig' be some kind of invisible sound armor or something? It intrigued her.
"And Eros was different?" she asked, and Till nodded, his eyes staring forward as he walked. "Eros believed in maximizing his Quirk depending on the circumstance. While we have one, singular 'Vollstandig', Eros possess five forms that he calls 'Kriegsform', or his 'War Forms'."
Kyoka looked to Till like he was insane. Five forms? What would the purpose of them even be? She could see maybe two, one for close range and long range combat, but what could he possibly need three more than that for? She couldn't believe it. "Five?"
He glanced to her. "Yes. He had many names for each, but to sum it up, he called them 'War Forms'. They were his 'Evolutions', as he called them, ways for him to be closer to the Lord. He even called one of his forms 'Adam', after the first man in the Bible." he mused, and Kyoka chuckled. It sounded rather silly, but it spoke volumes about who Eros used to be.
Elsewhere, Midoriya and Monoma were in a similar situation, bored out of their minds just wishing that someone would snag a purse or grab a baby or something. It was even worse because the two of them weren't known for getting along, mostly due to Monoma's hatred of Class 1-A.
However, the blonde seemed oddly relaxed today. Nothing Midoriya did triggered his hysterical fits of mocking laughter. There was no teasing or snickering. He was just… normal.
This kind of unsettled the freckle faced boy, who glanced to his partner sparingly as he wondered what was happening. Was this the opposite of Kaminari? Did some villain get to him and make him less emotional and impulsive? Was that even possible?
"Are you okay? You've been staring at me all day." Monoma finally asked, looking to Midoriya with a curious look on his features.
The boy whimpered in surprise, his face heating up as he opened his mouth to speak. What exactly did he say in response? 'Yes, I'm staring because you aren't making fun of me' sounded a little abrasive for him.
"You… you're just quiet is all. I was wondering if you were okay." he said, trying to sound like he was concerned for his friend, which he was. No matter how much Monoma might laugh at him or crack jokes at his expense, he still cared about the Copycat. He just liked people, and Monoma was no exception.
"Of course I am. What about you? I know I'm ravishing, but surely staring at me isn't the best use of your time."
Midoriya blinked at the comment, watching Monoma stare at him while posing flamboyantly with a hand over his face and his head tilted back, one of his large eyes peering at him from between his fingers. Was he being serious?
The boy with the inherited Quirk knew that he was off, but he doubted that the cause of his odd feeling of awkwardness was an attraction to his fellow schoolmate. Midoriya had to admit that Monoma was a handsome fellow, but for all of his lean build, neat hair and alluring smile he didn't really do it for him. Though, he wondered how he'd feel about Kyoka striking the same pose.
Emerald eyes blinked as he realized that he was thinking about Kyoka again. He found it odd that she'd infiltrated his thoughts, living rent free in his mind over the past few days. Ever since he had to talk to her about Eros confronting him, she'd been on his mind. He briefly wondered if this was yet another ability of Eros' mysterious Quirk, or Quirks.
"I-I think I'm fine. I don't think that it's anything to trouble yourself over, Monoma."
"Jiro is a member of our group, Deku. I'd beg to differ."
He looked to the blonde, who had an odd look on his face halfway between mocking and understanding. It was as if he was willing to understand Midoriya while also feeling smug and satisfied about knowing when Midoriya didn't really want anyone to.
"I-I just worry about her is all. A Villain does know everything about her. You know?" he said, trying to pass it off as general concern. However, he could see in Monoma's eyes that he wasn't very believable.
"It's fine, Midoriya. We're in high school. Everyone starts dating. I'm just surprised you haven't." he mused, and the freckled boy blinked at that. So these odd feelings he had were common, and his classmates and schoolmates had actually acted on them? Why hadn't he noticed?
"Really? I… I never noticed or thought about it like that." he mused, and Monoma chuckled as they turned a corner. His large eyes scanned the street, the glass windows in buildings and the alleyways he walked passed, searching for any sign of crime, his eyes finally passing back to his partner.
"You've never noticed how well Kendo and Tetsutetsu get along? Or Iida and Hatsume? Not even Kirishima and Ashido? And here I thought you were smart." he teased, and Midoriya took a second to think about it. All three pairs that he mentioned were rather close.
They always spent free time together, hung around each other during lunch and even preferred to train and do school work together. He just thought it was pairs of friends with good chemistry, but he didn't think it was that good. Then, another thought dawned on him. Training and spending time together, always hanging out and getting along, and even exchanging unique looks, well, for the most part.
"You mean like Raphael and Kacchan?"
Monoma blinked, pondering it and chuckling. "You got it. Although, that one is weird to me too. Bakugou and one of the foreign guys? My whole class is stumped on how that happened."
"You understand that I'm not supposed to be talking to you, right?" the woman asked, her eyes narrowed and her posture defensive as she sat across from the Villain at a small cafe, watching him sip some pungent smelling coffee beverage before casting seven colored eyes in her direction.
"I am aware of this, Madam Midnight. However, I simply wish to ask a couple of questions." he mused, and she looked to him with her arms folded over her chest, a frown across her features.
Eros tilted his head, the smell of his coffee on his nose as he inhaled. He took her silence as permission to continue speaking and ask her what he needed to. He understood her dilemma. She was a Hero, and taking him down and capturing him was what she should be doing, not entertaining his questions while they shared a drink in broad daylight.
"What happened to your students after the X-Force attack?"
The first question was straightforward, but she was a bit hesitant about answering it. Exactly what could he gain from such menial information? "We all went to the hospital. Ochako suffered a broken leg and the rest of my group suffered various injuries, as did I. We recovered Quickly thanks to the Quirks of the staff, but Ochako is still on bed rest for another day so her leg can finish healing. Why?"
He hummed, his eyes passing to his drink. It was pitch black, and he could see his reflection in it's murky depths. The sun was at his back, and it made him look like he had a halo almost. His lips tugged at the sides. He was reminded of happier times when he could use his full power and don his 'Kriegsform' whenever he so desired. Now, he could barely maintain the basic recon and physical enhancement techniques he'd learned before puberty.
He hummed to himself again. "Did you personally watch all of them? Or just Ochako because her injuries were most severe?" he asked, his tone relatively monotonous, Midnight's suspicions and paranoia becoming almost visible to him. He knew that she didn't trust him, but he just had a few more questions.
"I focused on those that were the most injured. Mineta and Tsuyu were relatively fine, so I paid them a little less attention, I admit. Why?" she asked, and he inhaled. He thought it was a bit odd that nobody was killed, and if the informant was someone on the battlefield, it would make sense to leave them alive.
"Just wondering. Now, forgive me for continuing to prod and poke, but what do you think of Yo Shindo?"
Eros found it odd how much attention the school was getting, and Yo seemed to be at the forefront of all of it. Being struck down by Eros, fighting off the X-Force, relaying details to the Pros. He was a busy student, and if he was the informant, it could truly explain most of the happenings. Although it didn't explain how he knew so much about UA. Unless he himself had a source.
Eros was agitated. If he had his full power, he could just figure it out far easier. But with the spike in his head, he had to rely on his glowing personality.
"He's a cute kid. Good student, hard worker. Why?" she asked, throwing the question at the end of every answer. He knew how this worked ahead of time. To get information, he had to give information. He inhaled, realizing that he had to have a bargaining chip, something that he could use to keep Midnight quiet about their conversation.
"I'll make you a deal. I'll tell you whatever you want to know, as long as you keep quiet about our meeting. Sound good to you?" he asked, and the woman's frown deepened. However, no matter how much her brow furrowed or her face turned down, she was still beautiful. Eros could see that she was truly blessed by the Lord, which is why he wanted to stay on her good side.
"And what makes you think I'll keep quiet?" she asked, a brow rose and her eyes narrowed angrily. He inhaled.
"I'm working against the League, Madam. I believe that one of your students, not Ochako of course, is the informant that Shigaraki spoke of. He was aware of this little… Vanguard field trip of yours, aware of the shifting waters at UA High, and even aware that I was there down to the room. This means that someone had to be aware of the goings on of the school and know who Kyoka Jiro was and where her room was. Does that not strike you as unusual?"
He watched emotions roil and twist across her features like choppy ocean waters, her mind going over all of the information and processing it. She had to admit that he had a point. The League of Villains knew too much. It was as if they were right there in the auditoriums and in the halls and dorms. As much as she never thought about it, and hated to admit it, the idea of a turncoat teacher or student made perfect sense giving the situation. How else would they know to attack while they were all gathered together?
"And why should I keep this between us? You are wanted for property damage and assault." she said, and he hummed.
"Consider me…. Undercover. I commit crime and gather info to stop them all and you get to keep… playing with your toy." he said, and she narrowed her eyes. What did that mean? She was the R Rated Hero, so she knew better than anyone what that last comment meant. Was he referring to one of her partners that she'd had over the years? Or was there something else?
She blinked when she realized what he was talking about. She narrowed her eyes. How exactly had he figured something like that out? She grit her teeth and leaned forward.
"You're trying to blackmail me?"
"Of course not. I'm merely letting you know that I'm not going to stop you. I can see that while the Law might not approve, your society and it's constructs mean nothing to the Lord God Almighty."
She couldn't argue with that odd viewpoint. It matched his brothers in arms, and she could tell that there wasn't a single lie or made up detail in anything he said. He was a peculiar villain, but Midnight couldn't deny that he was a 'Smooth Criminal'.
