Jean began to wake up, but when she did, she saw that she wasn't on Paul anymore. She looked around for him and didn't see him, but she did hear the shower going off.
"Paul?! You in the shower?!" Jean said.
"Yeah. I'll be out soon. Unless you're planning on stepping in here with me." Paul said.
"Not today." Jean said with a chuckle. Jean fell back on the bed. As much as she enjoyed last night, she felt like it wasn't enough. She wants to be there for Paul. She wants to be able to help him like the others do. As Jean stretched out on the bed, she noticed Paul's phone and saw he had a voicemail from Monica. Jean was a little curious. So she grabbed Paul's phone and unlocked it to hear the message. She figured she shouldn't have, but she wanted to hear what Monica had to say to him.
"Paul, call me back when you get this. I think I know what Balancer is planning. I went and talked to that guy you rescued and he also overheard those guys mention Grand Central Terminal. Based on what Librium stole, I think Balancer is planning to take White Streak out from there." Jean was shocked with what she heard, but she also saw this as an opportunity. She quickly gathered some clothes for her to change into them.
"Paul, I need to go!" Jean called out.
"Wait. I'm almost done in here." Paul said, but Jean ignored him and left without Paul knowing what's going on.
…..
Grand Central Terminal
Jean headed straight for Grand Central Terminal. She thought that this time, she could be of help to Paul. She really thinks there must be something she could do. Jean looked around through the crowd and was able to spot Monica just below the stairs.
"Monica!" Jean called out and got her attention.
"Jean?" Monica said as Jean came down to meet her. "What are you doing here?"
"Well…I heard your voicemail over Paul's phone." Jean said. "I'm sure Paul will be on his way soon, but I want to help."
"Jean, this could be dangerous." Monica said.
"You're one to talk. How many times have you put yourself in danger?" Jean said. She knew Jean had her there.
"Fine. Maybe your scientific brain could be of some help. I don't even know if I'm right about this." Monica said. "First thing we've got to do is keep our eyes open for Balancer." Both of them went deeper in the terminal and kept their eyes open for anything.
"So what makes you think Balancer will try to take White Streak out here?" Jean said.
"Well, it's only a theory." Monica said. "I went and talked to that guy Paul saved the other night. He overheard those guys mention Balancer's big plan and something about Grand Central Terminal. My guess is that since they wanted the financial records of White Streak, they're planning to take him out here and gain access to all the money White Streak possesses."
"But why here?" Jean asked.
"That's what we'll find out." Monica said. They walked over to the side and looked through the crowd, but saw no sign of him. "He might not be here yet, but that doesn't mean he won't be." Monica kept her eyes open, but her nose caught whiff of something else. "Do you smell something?"
"No." Jean said as grabbed her clothes and quickly smelled herself. Maybe leaving without a shower wasn't a good idea. "Quick question. What are we going to do when Balancer does show up?"
"Yes. What are you two going to do?" Both of them got scared as they turned around and was faced with Balancer himself. Monica and Jean got scared until Monica spotted security.
"Police! Police, help!" Monica called. The cop looked and spotted Balancer. He was about to step in, but the cop was shot by a Librium member. The people got scared as members of Librium showed up and started capturing people. Other officer members tried to stop them, but other members of Librium knocked them out. Monica and Jean tried to run for it, but Balancer got a hold of both of them.
"Hold on. You two are close to Spider-Man. You'll be of use to me." Balancer said as he dragged them across the room and tossed them in with a crowd of people they took captive. He tossed both of them in there and all were held hostage as Librium aimed their guns at them. "All you stay down, be quiet, and no one will get hurt." All of them did what he said as they all dropped to the floor.
"What are you doing?" Monica asked.
"I'm pretty sure he said to stay quiet." Jean said.
"You'll see soon enough. Get the bomb in place." Balancer said. People got scared as they saw one member of Librium carrying a bomb and placed it on a stand. "Now to get White Streak, Goldberg, and Master here." Balancer walked away and left his men to guard the hostages.
"All three of them?" Jean whispered.
"So he's planning to take all three out in one shot and have them blamed for what happens here." Monica whispered.
"How is he going to get them here? Why would those three care what happens to hostages?" Jean asked.
"I think we're really being used to keep maybe the police and Paul away." Monica said. Monica quietly reached for her phone and contacted Paul. Jean and Monica stayed close to keep the other cover.
"Hey, Monica. I'm almost at GCT." Paul said.
"You're a little late, Paul." Jean said.
"Jean? What are you doing there? What's going on?" Paul said.
"Balancer has taken hostages." Monica said. "He's got a bomb ready, but he's waiting to set it off for White Streak, Goldberg, and Master to show up."
"This must have been his plan all along." Paul said. "He took their territories piece by piece, armed himself with weapons to take them all out, and now this so he can take them out and take over whatever is theirs to have better control over the city. I'm on my way."
"Be careful, Paul." Jean said as she looked around and saw drones. "He brought drones. I think he's ready for when you show up."
"I'll sneak my way in. You two just stay where you are." Paul said and ended the call.
"No way I'm sitting on the side lines." Jean said as she looked around and saw a tablet that controlled the drones. "I'm going for it."
"Jean, wait!" Monica said, but Jean went for it anyway. She tried to make her way through without being seen. She was able to get close enough and grabbed the tablet.
"Hold it!" A member of Librium said as he aimed a gun at her. "Trying to be a hero. Not very smart. What are you doing?" Jean didn't answer and tried keeping the tablet hidden. "Answer me or else!"
"Wait!" Monica said as she spoke up and stood up. "You want the three crime lords here, right? I can help."
"How?" The Librium member asked.
"I'm a reporter." Monica said. "I get inside information. I know a thing or two about them. Just leave her alone and I can help." Monica was playing with fire here, but it seemed to have worked.
"Blondie, sit back down." The member said and Jean sat without the tablet being seen. He walked over to Monica and shoved her. "Walk." They took Monica away and Jean moved as fast as she could on the tablet. Monica was taken away from the people. She thought she was in trouble, but when no one was looking, the Librium member was pulled up and was webbed to the wall. Monica looked up and spotted Paul.
"Paul?" Monica said.
"They're coming. Come on." Paul said as he grabbed her and they both jumped over a railing just as other members showed up. "What's going on? What are you and Jean doing here?"
"I needed to see if my theory was true." Monica said. "Jean somehow heard the voicemail I left for you and came here because she wanted to help."
"Where is she now?" Paul asked.
"Back with those people. She's trying to do something about those drones." Monica said.
"Damn it." Paul said as he didn't want this to happen. "You stay hidden. I'm going to try and get Jean."
"Paul, no." Monica said as she grabbed his arm and stopped him. "If you get too close, they'll spot you and she, with all those people, could die. We need to distract them first so we can get these people out of here."
"What's this we? You're not doing anything, but stay out of their sight. I'll work on Librium." Paul said and went on ahead.
"That guy…." Monica said as she sometimes got frustrated with him. Jean kept her head down and did her best to work on the tablet. She felt her phone vibrate and pulled it out.
"Are you okay? I'm getting you out of here." Paul messaged and Jean messaged back.
"No. I got myself into this. I'm getting myself out. I almost have those drones taken care of. Get ready to make your move." Jean messaged. She continued to work on the tablet and got the drones deactivated. All of them dropped out of the air.
"What was that?"
"The drones shut off. Where's the tablet?" Jean moved quickly and slid the tablet away so she wouldn't be caught with it.
"Hey! I found some webs! Spider-Man is here somewhere."
"Keep your eyes open. He's slippery." All the members of Librium kept their guard up. Paul still had to do this quickly and quietly so the hostages won't be killed.
"I better go for the ones by the entrance so the people will be able to escape." Paul said as he climbed over to it. Paul shot a couple webs and pulled both of them into the air and had them stick to the wall. Paul wasn't the only one trying to cut them down. Monica made it to one of the higher grounds and was sneaking up on one of them. She used her bare hands and hit him in the head with her knocking him out.
"Self-defense classes, you've got to love them." Monica said. She looked down at the lower level and saw the Librium members looking around for Paul. "I need to find some way to distract them so Paul can take them out and the people can get out. He's not going to like this." Monica stood out and tried to get their attention. "Hey! Over here!" She called out and got their attention.
"Get her!" One of them said and Monica started running while all of them had their eyes on her. As for Paul, he started moving quickly and took them out one at a time.
"Monica!" Paul groaned as he hurried to try and save her. With all of them distracted, Monica was able to send a message to Jean.
"Try and do something about that bomb. Make it so it can't go off." Monica messaged.
"What do I look like? A bomb specialist?" Jean complained, but she went with it anyway. She hurried over to the bomb and saw four wires. "Okay. There are four wires intertwining. I think if I pull them out in the right order, I can shut this thing down. What's the right order?" Jean was doing her best to deactivate the bomb before it can even be used. Meanwhile, Monica was running for her life. She made her way down some stairs, but a couple members of Librium cut her off.
"Going somewhere?"
"Away from here." Monica said as she was about to head back up, but another one blocked her off.
"Big mistake, little girl." He was ready to shoot at her, but Paul saved her as he came behind one and knocked him out.
"Monica, down!" Paul said. Monica ducked as he shot a couple webs and hit both of them in the faces. Paul jumped all the way down the stairs and tackled both of them down. "I knew I should have gotten you out of here when I had the chance. Peter would never make a mistake like this."
"Do you really think now is the time for you to compare yourself with him? Jean's working on the bomb." Monica said.
"She's what?!" Paul said.
"She's smart. She might be able to. We need to shut that thing down before Balancer has a chance to use it." Monica said.
"Or she could accidently set it off. I need to do something now! You just stay out of sight!" Paul said.
"There he is!" A member of Librium said as they all spotted him.
"Bring it on!" Paul said as he just dived right into a fight. He looked around and saw there were less of them around. "All of you go! Run!" All the people got up and started running for their lives.
"Our hostages!"
"Forget them! Crush the spider!" Some of them started shooting at him. Monica hurried over to the exit and she was helping people escape.
"Hurry! Go! Go!" Monica said. She looked down the place and saw Jean was still at work with the bomb. "Jean! Forget the bomb! Just get out of here!"
"No! I can do this!" Jean called as she was still working on it. "I've got to shut this thing down before Balancer can use it!"
"Hey! No you don't!" One Librium member said as he was about to shoot at her, but Paul shot a web and pulled the gun out of his hand and knocked him across the face.
"Jean, I'll take care of it! You just get out of here!" Paul said.
"I can do this!" Jean said.
"Jean…" Paul reached for her, but one Librium member cut him off as he tried to attack him. He dodged him and kicked him back. One member tried to get back up and attacked him, but Paul jumped over and tried to lure them away from her.
"Stay calm. Don't panic." Jean said as she pulled one of the wires out. "So far, so good. Just need to keep calm." As she continued to work on the bomb, Paul was able to lure more of the members away from her.
"Why does this happen to me?" Paul said as he kicked one back. "Just how many of them are there?" One tried to attack, but Paul moved to the side and webbed his legs with him tripping. One charged right at him, but Paul moved out of the way. He webbed his back and used his momentum to have him crash into the wall. As Paul continued to fight off the members of Librium, Jean was almost done with the bomb.
"Almost got it." Jean said as she unplugged another wire. "Almost. Just two more, but do I pull both of them out?" Jean had to be careful or else she could accidently set the bomb off. She did her best to figure it out. "Here goes nothing." Jean decided to just go for it and pulled both of them out. She was expecting the worst, but she saw nothing happened. She looked and saw there was no power going through the bomb. "I did it. I did it! I actually shutdown a bomb!"
"It would appear so." Jean felt real proud of herself, but that turned to fear as Balancer walked up behind her. Paul continued to fight off the members of Librium. He shot a web at one and pulled down to have him fall down the stairs.
"AAWWW!"
"Jean!" Paul heard her scream and saw Balancer taking her away.
"Let go of me!" Jean said as she tried to get loose, but his hold on her was too strong.
"You're coming with me. You might be of use to me." Balancer said as he took her to one of the trains.
"No!" Paul said as he hurried to stop him, but a couple more members of Librium showed and got a hold of him. "Let go! Jean!" He called. If he doesn't do something, he'll lose Jean to Balancer.
