Hyperfall rubbed his head where it had been damaged as he walked into the med bay. Things had been going somewhat smoothly until now and then trouble just seemed to crop up all at once. First there was the overprotective programming that had made him react in an embarrassingly possessive manner toward Cascade in front of the med bay crew and now there was trouble with the others in his group. Pivot was fine. He always found something to do to keep himself occupied and Data often worked with him when he wasn't with Perceptor. FireSky had taken to hanging out with the other flyers and Chaosbreaker had met a kindred spark in Crossblades, who was also obsessed with his arsenal and subspace collection. UV was the most relaxed of the group and could usually be found in the rec room chatting with whoever was in there. Sunburn and Charger were either sparring or practicing their shooting accuracy. They occasionally got into brawls and would end up in the brig, but it wasn't a normal thing like the twins. After the first few times it happened, he had advised them to avoid certain mechs. It had definitely helped reduce the problem. It was Mercury that was causing problems now. While he was intelligent enough to not detonate or try explosives on the ship, he had started hanging out in Wheeljack's lab. Mercury had supplied Wheeljack with a few too many new ideas that had Hyperfall fearing that they were likely to blow up the whole ship sooner or later. When Mercury missed another team meeting, Hyperfall had gone to the lab personally to get him, but his entrance had again been ill timed and the resulting explosion had hit him as well as Mercury and Wheeljack. Right now Wheeljack was half carrying Mercury behind him as he entered the med bay.
Ratchet looked up as they walked in. "Wheeljack," he snarled. "If you're going to blow yourself to the pit, then fine, but don't drag others in."
First Aid helped Mercury to a nearby berth while Hyperfall settled on another. Wheeljack instead of sitting on a berth walked over to where Jolt was recharging with Cascade. When he reached the foot of the berth, Jolt came online immediately automatically pulling Cascade closer, but his weapons stayed offline when he recognized Wheeljack.
"How's she doing?" asked Wheeljack softly.
"We put Groove back in his frame so the stress on her systems has lessened," said Jolt. "She'll make a full recovery after we return Smokescreen."
"Tell her when she comes online that I have time to start making her over armor," said Wheeljack. He walked over to the next berth and sat on it while he waited for one of the medics to be free.
Ratchet glanced at Hyperfall after he finished fixing the damage to his head. "Well, I guess removing that coding worked," said Ratchet. "Otherwise I'm sure you'd be attacking Jolt right about now."
Hyperfall ducked his head in embarrassment while Mercury and Wheeljack laughed at him.
Cascade came online to see she was still pressed against Jolt's chest. He had his arm draped over her protectively and she tilted her head up to see that he was awake. He gave her a small smile. "We're about ready," he said. He shifted into a sitting position bringing her with him. Ratchet was across the room finishing the last of the repairs on Smokescreen.
When Ratchet waved them over, Jolt helped Cascade onto the berth that held Smokescreen's frame. However, her automatic scan stopped her from opening the carrying chamber. Ratchet reached to help her, but she recoiled. Her optics quickly scanned the other mechs in the med bay. Only Mercury was in there at the moment, but it was better to be safe than sorry. "I can't," said Cascade moving off toward the end of the berth and nearly falling off. Jolt was there immediately to save her from hitting the floor.
"What do you mean you can't?" asked Ratchet in confusion.
"My systems jammed," said Cascade placing a hand over her chest.
At Ratchet's urging, Jolt placed her gently on the nearby berth. Ratchet started to scan her immediately. Cascade quickly sent a private comm to Mercury, which had him rolling off his berth and to his feet immediately. She then sent a private comm to both Ratchet and Jolt explaining what was actually wrong. Mercury quickly moved to Smokescreen's berth as Ratchet returned to the frame as well. It took about ten minutes, but between the two of them they were able to successfully remove a small device from Smokescreen.
Cascade was far ahead of them. She'd already sent a private comm to both Prowl and Jazz and they reassured her they were looking into the situation. When she had scanned Smokescreen earlier, she had picked up the presence of a disrupter. It was a device that would fry the electrical systems of any bot rendering them temporarily unable to move. If it was implanted correctly, it could cause the bot's spark to go out.
After the removal and repair, Ratchet scanned Smokescreen's frame for any other anomalies. Finding none, he gestured for Jolt to bring Cascade back over again. Her scans revealed that everything was fine now and she transferred Smokescreen's spark back where it belonged. The relief to her systems was immediate and she sent her thanks to all the mechs in the room. Jolt transferred her over to another berth and had her drink some energon.
"I thought I'd be done recharging," said Cascade venting as she slid down to lie on the berth again.
Jolt took the empty cube from her. "Your systems need to readjust," he said comfortingly.
Just then the doors to the med bay opened and Prowl walked in. He walked over to Cascade and the rest of the mechs gathered around.
"Did you get him?" asked Cascade.
"We caught a mech by the name of Lightcoil going into the med bay when no one else was in here," said Prowl. "It's 90% likely that he was the one that implanted the disrupter. He's currently in the brig undergoing interrogation. We will find out if he held animosity toward Smokescreen or if he is a Decepticon spy. Inferno and Red Alert are tracking his prior movements to make sure there are no more surprises." Prowl promptly turned to Ratchet and Ratchet handed him the disrupter that they'd removed. "How is Smokescreen?" asked Prowl turning to the berth that held his frame.
"Coming online as we speak," said Ratchet shooing Mercury back to his berth.
Cascade didn't hear anymore of the conversation because she was already out. Jolt climbed back onto the berth with her as a precaution. After all the effort she had put in, he wanted her recovery to be as smooth as possible.
