Lottie and Avery lay under a blanket, Avery flat out asleep beside Lottie. They were watching a film, but obviously the events of the school day and her lack of sleep caught up with Avery.
As if on cue, Erin and Jay walked through the door, followed by Hailey and Kim. Lottie assumed it was their "game night" again. Erin was about to say Hi to Lottie, when she saw Avery fast asleep next to her. She smiled instead, putting her bags down on the counter.
"Don't bother whispering, she's flat out and we all know Avery could sleep through a tsunami." Lottie laughed, sitting up.
Erin laughed and came over to Lottie kissing her on the top of the head. "How you been today sweetheart?" Erin said.
"I've been fine felt a bit sick at times but that passed." Lottie said, hugging Erin.
"I'm so proud of you kiddo. I know it's hard but you'll get through it, hell knows I did." Erin said to Lottie.
Everyone came over and sat down on the sofa, whiskey at hand. Hailey came and sat next to Lottie. Erin had sometimes gotten Hailey to go round and check on Lottie when she was at the apartment, just making sure she was alright during the day. She put her arm around the other blonde, and squeezed her shoulder gently.
"How you been holding up Lotts?" Hailey said quietly, as Kim, Erin and Jay buzzed around, getting games and drinks out. Erin had told Hailey about Lottie's situation, she trusted her to keep it to herself, and Lottie trusted her too.
Lottie shrugged. "Feeling sick quiet a lot, but that's to be expected." Lottie said. "So...team blondie again?"
Hailey smiled, dimples popping. "Hell yes girl. Something tells me you're going to be VERY good at this game."
Kim learnt her lesson from last time, and decided to bring 'Cards against humanity' round this time, deciding everyone was old enough to understand the dark humour. As if on cue, Avery stirred and sat up sleepily.
"Good morning sunshine." Erin joked, laughing at how grumpy her daughter was.
"Nice of you to join us." Hailey said, trying to stifle a laugh herself.
Avery just rolled her eyes, she walked over to Erin's armchair and sat in the small space beside her Mom. Kim started the game, she teamed with Jay, Hailey and Lottie made Team Blondie, Erin and Avery made Team Lindsay. Avery was hoarding the doritos to herself, giving everyone else death stares if they asked for one. Nobody came between Avery and food...Erin knew that more than anyone.
Twenty minutes in to the game, and Team Blondie was winning, Team Lindsay was in second and Kim + Jay were in last. Jay was not best pleased at the prospect of losing twice in a row.
"I hate this game." Jay said.
"Awh Jay is a sour loser AGAIN." Avery laughed, fist bumping her Mom. "What's wrong Jay Jay? Can't handle it twice?"
Jay ran over, scooping Avery up in to his arms and tipping her upside down. It was their special thing they did, even though Avery was a fully grown teenager, she weighed second to nothing and always loved playing around with Jay. He threw Avery back at Erin. "Watch out Little Lindsay...I'm out to get you." Jay smirked.
Avery arched an eyebrow. "Is that so?"
Erin cut them off by asking if anyone wanted more drinks, knowing that Avery and Jay would go on all night. She'd planned to ask Avery about Jay moving in full time once everyone went. She got the impression they'd get on just fine.
The evening dragged by, and this time Avery didn't fall asleep on the sofa. Hailey and Kim left, Hailey giving Lottie her number in case she needed anything.
Lottie went off to have a shower, so Erin and Jay got Avery to sit down with them. "So Aves...how would you feel about Jay moving in full time?" Erin said nervously, this conversation could go one of two ways.
Avery practically jumped out of her seat with excitement and wrapped her arms around Jay. "YES YES YES!" She squealed, jumping on to Jay's lap. "At long last, I've been waiting on this for YEARS NOW."
Erin laughed, with relief and amusement. "Right then, cmon kiddo, bed time please. Lotts is just showering, she'll be out in a bit."
Avery rolled her eyes. "Mom I'm sixteen, not six. Don't 'bedtime' me." Avery said. Erin pulled Avery in to a hug, and theatrically started kissing her head, Avery squirming with embarrassment.
"But you'll always be MY baby girl." Erin said, as Avery eventually gave in and hugged her Mom back.
"You're so cheesy Momma." Avery laughed, pulling away.
"I'll come see you in about 30, 'kay?" Erin said, Avery nodded and headed back to her bedroom.
Avery walked in to her bedroom and changed in to her pajamas. The events of the day caught up on her, so she decided to get in to bed straight away, not wanting to wait for Lottie to get out the shower. As soon as her head hit the pillow she fell asleep.
Lottie stepped out the shower, her skin bright pink. She liked the way the boiling water burnt her skin slightly. Her phone buzzed, so she picked it up and her heart fell the the floor when she saw who it was from.
Her...ex...ish...boyfriend.
We've got new stuff in, you need to get your skinny ass over here so we can test it. If you don't you know what happens. See you tomorrow.
Lottie felt sick. She knew that he could hurt the people around her if she didn't...but she'd worked so hard to get clean. Sighing, she decided it was best to just go...surely it wouldn't be that bad.
She got changed in to her pajamas and headed to Avery's room, see how Avery was flat out asleep, starfishing across the bed. She slipping under the covers as quickly as possible so she didn't disturb Avery.
Her efforts were futile, and Avery stirred next to her. Lottie pulled her best friend in to her arms, finding comfort in having someone next to her. "Night A.
"Night...L.." Avery mumbled, before returning to softly snore again.
