Mending A Broken Heart
Epilogue
Kagome felt a hand settle over hers to stop them from shaking.
"Calm down, love."Sesshomaru said gently. "You look beautiful." He was referring to her glamour spell that concealed her demonic features from the human world. She looked much like she has as a teenager, just more grown up. Sesshomaru had his own glamour spell as well. He was basically the same just without his pointed ears, fangs, tail, and strips.
"I just don't want to cause my mother to have a heart attack. She is expecting the letters that I have written to just show up one day or something like that. Not for me to show up a few days after I left for the past, looking so different and being a demon!" Kagome exclaimed at her husband. Sesshomaru just chuckled at her outburst. She was normally the picture of perfection in public as she had honed her skills and emotions over the centuries, but every once in a while, her emotions still got the better of her.
"Love, your mother will just be happy to see you. I fully expect to her to faint when she learned the amount of grandchildren she has between our children and our own grandchildren."
"Speaking of our children, I have been meaning to mention something to you, but we have both been so busy the last few days and having the glamour spells up." Kagome started and Sesshomaru raised a quizzical brow at her when she stopped speaking. "I am expecting another pup." She finally finished. Sesshomaru's eyes widened at her admission because he could normally sense her pregnancies from the very beginning.
"When did you figure it out?" Sesshomaru questioned.
"Two days ago." Kagome admitted. The night before that had been the last time they had been together.
"You naughty girl, you have known for two days and didn't tell me?" Sesshomaru teased.
"I couldn't believe it at first. Kira is almost 25. I just figured that my childbearing years were finally behind me." Kagome stated, wonder still in her voice. They had many children, but most were spaced out between 15 to 30 years apart. "I am over 500 years old now." Sesshomaru chuckled. He was happy about having another pup and he had some interesting news for his mate.
"Love, you are still in your prime. Your childbearing years are still countless. You could have another 20pups or more if we play our cards right." Kagome's eyes widened as she looked at her husband in shock. They already had 15 pups, not including the one she currently carried. Sesshomaru couldn't seem to keep his hands off her.
"But I don't want another 20 pups, you horny dog!" Kagome exclaimed in frustration. "I am still afraid to tell my mother how many children we do have. Hell, our grandchildren from the older ones already outnumber our total children!"
"Then we have some serious work to do." Sesshomaru replied seriously. "By my calculations, we need to have at least 10 more to just catch up to the current grandpups. You will have to decrease the number of years between pups."
"We agreed to do the spacing so we could enjoy our pups, remember? I believe we will just keep things the way they are. I believe we have earned the right to enjoy our grandchildren and not run ourselves into the ground by having a bunch more children of our own."
"You are right, my love. Besides, I think Kira will enjoy finally having a sister." Sesshomaru beamed at her as he laid a across her stomach. They had 14 boys and Kira had been their first daughter after so many boys. Kagome just grinned up at her mate. She had felt the pup's aura and knew as well that they were having another daughter.
"Its about time you give some girls, my lord. I love my boys, but daughters are nice too." Sesshomaru leaned in to nuzzle her neck.
"I will give you as many daughters as you wish, my love." Kagome started to groan under his ministrations, but she reluctantly pulled away when she felt the car slowly and realized they were pulling up to the shrine steps.
"Later." Kagome promised quietly as their driver opened the door.
The couple climbed the steps to the shrine hand in hand. It was quiet with the mid afternoon sun shining through the trees as the approached the house. Kagome wasn't surprised when her grandfather suddenly burst out of the house, shouting 'Demon!' With his charms in both hands.
"Grandpa, calm down! You are going to scare away our visitors." Amaya, Kagome's mother, was saying as she hurriedly followed him outside. Kagome felt tears sting her eyes as she saw them both after so long. For them, she had only been gone a few days, but for her, it had been much longer.
"Mama." Kagome said quietly, but Amaya heard it and turned to her. Her eyes widened at the sight before her. A woman who looked like her daughter stood before her.
"Kagome, get away from the demon!" Grandpa said, recognizing her at once, but he was more concerned about her safety at that moment. Sesshomaru just raised an eyebrow at his wife. Kagome sighed and put a slight barrier to stop her grandfather's approach until she could explain.
"Kagome, is it really you?" Amaya asked in wonder.
"Grandpa, please don't attack my husband." Kagome said gently before turning back to her mother. Her grandfather stopped with her barrier around him cause he really didn't have a choice, but he wasn't happy about it.
"Of course it is Kagome, Amaya. Who else would it be especially with these powers?" Her grandfather said a huff. Amaya ignored her father in law and just continued to stare at her daughter.
"But I watched you disappear into the well just a week ago. How it is possible that you are here now?"
"Well, there is a lot to be explained, but can I just hug you first?" Kagome asked. Amaya just held her arms out in answer. Kagome felt like a teenager again as she was enveloped in her mother's embrace. Amaya breathed in her daughter's scent as Kagome began to quietly sob into her shoulder. Finally, Kagome pulled back, wiping at her eyes. "I am sorry. I have just missed you for so long."
"Its perfectly all right, dear. We all have been missing you around here as well." Amaya smiled warmly. "I never dreamed I would see you again. I was thinking you would write the letters you spoke of and give to like Inuyasha for safekeeping until they could be given to me here in the future."
"Well, I do have the letters I promised, but I am delivering them personally." Kagome replied.
"Speaking of Inuyasha, where is the mutt?" Grandpa asked, still behind the barrier. "And can you let me go? I promise I won't attack unless it becomes necessary." Kagome just nodded and lowered the barrier. Grandpa joined their group, eyeing Sesshomaru nervously.
"To answer your question about Inuyasha, he is overseas at the moment, setting up some offices for a new branch of one of our companies." Kagome explained
"He is still alive then?" Amaya confirmed. "If Inuyasha is away, then who is this and why did you call him your husband?"
"Because I am her husband." Sesshomaru spoke up for the first time. He put an arm around Kagome's waist and she smiled lovingly up at him for a moment before settling at his side. "I am Lord Sesshomaru of the Western Lands and Kagome is my lady and mate."
"Its nice to meet you, my lord, but I am still confused. Did things not work out with Inuyasha, Kagome?"
"Mama, could we move inside? There is much to explain." Amaya nodded and moved towards the house.
They settled in the living room and Kagome began to explain what happened when she went back to the past with Inuyasha.
"Wow, my dear, I am so sorry you went through all of that." Amaya commented as Kagome ended her tale.
"It was a long time ago now, Mama, and I wouldn't change a thing. Eventually, Inuyasha found a lovely half demon lady to mate with and they have four young children that keep them busy."
"Just how old are you, Kagome?" Amaya asked, almost afraid of the answer.
"I am 518 years old. I have lived through the last five centuries as a demon." Kagone tried to explain gently.
"A demon? How are you a demon and still have your priestess powers?"
"You are Lord Sesshomaru true mate. I have heard the legends. Its extremely rare, but when a human or such mates with a powerful demon, they can take on the traits and lifespan of that demon." Grandpa explained.
"Yes, Grandpa, that is correct."
"Is this the same Sesshomaru that is also Inuyasha's older brother?" Amaya asked. Kagome nodded in confirmation. "You two do seem happy together. Welcome to the family, Sesshomaru."
"Thank you." Sesshomaru replied politely. "Your daughter and I been very happy together indeed. She is best thing I could have ever hoped for in a mate and more. I secretly thank my brother much for bringing her into my life, but don't let him know that. It would just go to his head." Amaya couldnt help but smile at her son in law's words.
"I am very glad to hear that. Thank you for taking such good care of our Kagome."
"It has been my pleasure." Sesshomaru said sweetly. Kagome blushed slightly at the heat in his gaze.
"We do have another motive in choosing this day to come here." Kagome chimed in to change the subject. "Sesshomaru and I will be celebrating our 500 anniversary this weekend. We thought it would a good time for you guys to meet everyone. We are hosting a house party for the weekend on our private island. Most of our children live there part time at least. But all will be there for our anniversary."
"Children? You have children?" Grandpa choked out. Amaya didn't seem quite as surprised as her father in law did at the idea of Kagome having children.
"Yes, Grandpa. In fact, you're are not just a great-grandfather, you are a great-great-grandfather. Sesshomaru and I also have many grandchildren and that number is growing all the time." Kagome explained. Amaya smiled at Grandpa's shock. The old man was left speechless.
"Just how many children and grandchildren do you have, Kagome?" Her mother asked. When her daughter hesitated, she continued. "I am assuming since you have been around for quite some time, it is quite a few?" Kagome nodded but still didn't speak. She looked at Sesshomaru for help.
"Mrs. Higurashi, what would your guess on our children count?"
"Umm, I don't know. Five hundred years is a long time. 40? 50?" Her face paled as she really thought about her daughter having that many children. At her having that many grandchildren!
"Mama, Sesshomaru and I currently have 17 pups. We have 14 boys and one girl, plus Rin and Shippo. We have 26 grandchildren at the moment. Only our seven oldest boys have mated and begun their own families." Kagome finally gave her mother the information. Amaya seemed to relax a little bit at knowing that it was not as much as she had guessed. "There is an average of 25 years between each of our children."
"Why such gaps?" Amaya asked
"So we wouldn't kill ourselves trying to raise many pups in a short time. Ultimately, it was Kagome's decision, but we have been able to enjoy each of our pup's upbringing and we share a very close relationship with each of them since we were able to devote most of our time to one at a time instead of several as we did when Rin and Shippo were younger with Daiki, our eldest." Sesshomaru said.
"Whatever happened to little Shippo? I remember you speaking of him so fondly, Kagome." Amaya askd.
"Shippo and Rin actually mated once they grew up. They live most of the time in London with their children. They have three. They will be at the house party this weekend as well." Kagome explained.
"I do have one more question for now. What did you mean when you said you currently have 17 children. Are you planning on having more?"
"Yes, actually, we found a couple days ago that we are expecting another pup, another girl." Kagame told her mother.
"Oh, congratulations, my darling daughter. I can't wait to meet her and all her siblings!" At the word 'siblings', Grandpa groaned.
"Grandpa, are you all right?" Kagome asked with concern.
"Yes. I am just still in shock. I have 45 grandchildren with you and Sota. It's a lot to process, child."
"And you thought your mother would be the one to worry about not taking it well." Sesshomaru chuckled. Amaya smiled as well.
Kagome and Sesshomaru stayed for the rest of the day visiting with her family. Her mother did indeed faint when she saw what her daughter's demon form looked like, but she thought that Kagome was beautiful.
The house party would be first of many such functions that Kagome's family would attend. Amaya enjoyed all of grandchildren and became close to all of them. Sota loved being an uncle to so many, once he got over the shock the most of his nephews and nieces were much older than him. Grandpa was always on his guard on the island, but he secretly loved all the history he was taught while there.
Slowly, though, as time went on, Kagome had to say goodbye to her grandfather, then her mother, and finally her brother. After Sota's death, Kagome and Sesshomaru settled down permanently on the private island and gave full control to their companies to their children.
They never did quite catch up to all the grandpups they acquired, but they did add several more of their own pups to the family before Kagome finally said she was done.
The Western lord and his lady spent several more centuries on their island, enjoying their children, grandchildren and more until they both slipped away peacefully one night together to join their families in heaven and continue to enjoy their eternity together.
The End
