Chapter Twenty-One

Jasper's thoughts are in italics

April 10, 2006 (4 PM)

Everyone but Bella, the wolves and the kids are out hunting. Edward is staying in the guest room for now. Anyone could see it was killing him to not be with Bella, but he isn't pushing…for now. He has found out quickly if Bella doesn't want someone around they won't be around.

The next day the kids had slipped and Bella had found out they had tricked her into getting Edward here. She was so mad she had pushed everyone away with her shield and ran. Edward had tried to go follow her, but SJ had stopped him by saying through tears "With her shield up you will never be able to find her. It hides her scent too." So, Edward stayed and kept the kids company and tried to help them keep their minds off their mom. It had worked a little, but as soon as she was home they had run to her crying begging for forgiveness.

Of course, Bella had forgiven them, even Alice and Jasper, but she was still unhappy. Bella and the kids had spent the rest of the day in Bella's room. Now the only time Bella came out was to hunt or make food for the kids.

Alice sighs. Jasper looks at her in question. "Just thinking about the last couple days. I am glad Edward is here, but I wish Bella wasn't so upset still."

Jasper walks over and hugs Alice. "I know. She isn't as upset as she was the first day. Just give her a few more days. She feels betrayed, by me especially."

This is all her fault. She thought she was helping and she only made it worse. "Please don't feel guilty, Alice. She will be okay." Jasper states as she hugs her tighter. It will all work out. It has too. We are all together now. We will be fine…I hope…

Meanwhile…

Victoria is pacing back and forth along the border of Canada and Washington.

I was so close! He was there, alone and weak! Then he just disappeared! How does that even work?! I knew it wasn't going to be good, so I went running to where I found that witch living with those brats.

Victoria growls loudly, scaring away the animals that were around her. Of course, there he was playing with those three things… At first I thought they were immortal children but they didn't smell right. I had seen an immortal child before the Volturi had found it. It had smelled just like a vampire and had no control at all. These things did have control but didn't smell like a vampire…but they didn't smell like food either…so what were they?

She was tempted to go to the Volturi and turn them in as immortal children but she was afraid to be touched by Aro and him see she wasn't sure if they actually were immortal children. She thought when she had found where Bella and Jasper had been they would be easy to whip out. But by the time she created the newborns, what a pain that had been, more were there. Her only choice was to run while the newborns she created were being killed.

No, turning those want-to-be-vampires into the Volturi was too easy of a way out for them. They needed to suffer. She had stuck around to watch them move around for a few days. Everyone seemed to be focused on Bella. It was weird, that isn't what Laurent had mentioned.

Victoria laughs evilly. Oh, the things people will tell you when their mate's life is in danger. She was shocked to learn how powerful this Cullen clan was. But they had also said Carlisle was the leader. Did Bella take over? That didn't seem right. Leaders don't give up their covens…

Oh, who cares. All I care about is if I hurt Bella somehow, I will hurt the rest of them. But I can't get to her as she is never without someone around her.

Victoria freezes. She gets an evil grin on her face. She knows exactly what she is going to do. She laughs as she takes off, heading for Forks. She knew she had to keep changing her mind in case Alice looked for her. So the whole way to Forks she thought about going to any place but Forks.

Now she had a plan and she was going to make them all pay!
