When we get to the back of the arcade Ellie grabs a cart with boxes on it to move so we can get up to a window over the locked door. She starts to push it and when she's about halfway there the floor breaks and Ellie falls through.
"Ellie!" I yell and run to the hole. I'm about to jump down when Ellie yells up at me.
"Infected! Lia stay up there." I see runners run at Ellie and suddenly there's a big smoke of acid and I see a shambler down there with her. My eyes widen and I run back to the dead body we passed earlier and grab the shotgun off of the ground. I grab it and jump down even though Ellie told me not to. I pump the shotgun and shoot at the shambler to get it's attention, "Lia! I told you not to come down."
"I'm not letting you do this alone!" I yell back and have to dodge an acid bomb the shambler throws at me. Ellie takes out a runner before she also grabs her shotgun and shoots the shambler. She grabs one of her molotovs and throws it at the infected. I take another pump of the shotgun and shoot it. I'm about to do another one but it's out of ammo, "Shit." I mutter and run to cover. Ellie takes one more shot at the shambler and it falls down.
"Kay. Back to that damn Ferris wheel." Ellie says. I nod while looking at the shambler.
"Yeah and maybe stay clear of arcades for a little while."
Ellie chuckles, "Sounds good." We go over to the counter and raise the metal gate so we can jump over and find a way out. The back is filled with old shoes, toys and games. Ellie finds another card and we move through the kitchen and back room until we reach the top of the arcade again. We cross over a bridge with an old plane hanging next to us until we reach the entrance where we can move the pipe that is blocking the gate from opening. I jump down and start to open the gate while Ellie starts the motor of the boat. The gate stays open so I go over and jump into the boat, "almost there." Ellie sighs. The water is extremely rough now and I have to hold on tight to not fall out. The water splashes in mine and Ellie's eyes so everything is hard to see.
"Holy shit this is too much!" I yell at Ellie as we reach the ocean and come closer to the Ferris wheel. The waves are huge and I slide back on the boat every time we go over one. With the worst timing ever the boats engine stops after we go over a wave, "Are you fucking kidding me?" I mutter and help Ellie with the engine. We don't have much time as another giant wave comes down on us and I can feel myself get pushed off of the boat, "Oh fuck-" I hear Ellie say before I'm fully submerged into the icy ocean. The current takes me and I struggle to get up. I manage to break the surface and I look around for Ellie.
"Ellie! Ellie!" I hear coughing not too far away and Ellie's body pops up in the water.
"Lia!" Ellie yells and I force my way through the current to her, "Lia! Thank god. Come on we have to get out of this water!" Me and Ellie hook arms as we make our way through the strong current. It's not the easiest to swim with each other, but we don't want to loose one another in the waves. Another wave crashes into me and Ellie and we get submerged underwater again. Ellie struggles to hold onto me and I struggle with her. My lungs feel like they're about to collapse as I push my body as hard as I can through the current while trying to keep my hand latched onto Ellie's, "Oh god, oh god." Ellie breaths out as she finally pulls herself up onto the metal container. I grab onto it and pull my body up, grabbing onto Ellie's hand as we help each other onto more stable ground. We start to jog towards the Ferris wheel and look for any entrance into the aquarium. We pass through an old children's playground. Ellie tries opening a large door, but it doesn't open.
"I think I found a way! Follow me." I shout at Ellie and we go to a broken fence and crawl under it. We jump up onto some vents that boost us onto the roof. There we find a broken window where we can enter the aquarium. When my feet land on the ground I turn on my flashlight and follow Ellie. My body is shaking from the freezing cold weather we just witnessed. Ellie looks at me with concern.
"We'll end this soon, Li. Then we're gonna get you something to warm up." I shakily nod at her and try my best to control my shivers. We move throughout the dark hallways and past the blue tanks. I can only imagine how packed and beautiful this place could have been before. Some of the fish tanks still have fish in them and I stop to admire them for a second before I catch up with Ellie. She doesn't stop or look around, she only has eyes on looking for Abby. We jump into one of the broken tanks and slide through a hole in the wall into the back. Water covers the floor and there's still no sign of anyone being here.
"You think they're still here?" I ask Ellie.
"They have to be." Is all she says and we go through another hole in the wall to a new area. We walk through the makeshift river and the rocks are covered with overgrown life and planted environments. There's more underwater life here so it's cool how the old world used to recreate places we couldn't see. We reach so many locked doors we have to find another way.
"This way." Ellie says and she climbs up to an open vent above. I sigh, but still follow Ellie. Ellie grunts as the vent breaks and she falls down.
"Shit!" I jump backwards so the broken part only makes Ellie fall. We hear a dog bark and Ellie is attacked by the dog. I jump down quickly and stab the dog in the neck and throw him off of Ellie. I look at the dogs lifeless body before turning to Ellie.
"Thanks." She whispers and looks at the pooling blood, "I could have done that. I would have had him in a minute."
"I know, but my only priority is your safety." Ellie gives me a small smile and we follow the light. When we enter the room there's blood and surgery equipment.
"God. The fuck happened here?" Ellie mutters. I shrug and examine the medical tools.
"This had to be a big surgery. There's too much blood. Probably a bad injury or something."
"Or torture." Ellie says. I just look at her before we keep searching the aquarium. We reach a room with a dog bed and sleeping supplies. Ellie and I look around for any supplies or clues. I'm trying to open a back door when Ellie calls me over. When I get closer I see she's looking at some necklace.
"Look. Owen Moore. They're here."
I examine the necklace in my hand, "Well let's do this then." We get ready to leave the room, but I stop quickly to examine the beds, "There's about five beds, so I guess expect about five guys."
"Yeah, seems like it." Ellie replies and we leave the room. We start to approach a door with a crab on it when we hear voices on the other side. Ellie raises her hand to her lips and we slowly open the door with our guns ready.
"People don't come back from that island, Owen!" A female voice says.
"How many times has Abby risked her life for you?" The man, Owen, says.
"She chose this. I'm not fucking going there."
"Then don't!" Owen shouts at the girl with the pixie cut, "Go back."
"Fuck you, Owen..." The girl turns around so Ellie and I raise our guns at them. The girl stops in her tracks with a surprised look.
"Hands up." Ellie tells them and they slowly raise their hands, "Where's Abby?"
"You're that girl from Jackson." Owen tells Ellie.
"Tell me where she went."
"How do we know you won't kill us?" The girl with the pixie cut asks.
"You don't." I tell them and Ellie takes out the map, "Just talk then maybe we'll let you go."
"Bullshit." Owen tells me. Ellie walks over to the girl with the map in her hand.
"Point on the map where she is, then I'll ask him, and it better fucking match up." Ellie keeps her focus on the girl while I keep my aim on Owen.
"Okay-" The girl starts, but Owen cuts her off.
"What are you doing?"
"She's probably dead anyway!"
"Why?" I ask her. She looks at me but doesn't answer, "Why the fuck would she be dead?" I ask again. I look over at Ellie and she stays quiet. The sooner we get this over with the sooner we can go home. I turn to Owen and shoot him in the knee. He cries out in pain and the girl jumps from the shot, "Say it or the next one is in the other knee." The girl takes a step towards me but Ellie points her gun at her.
"Stay the fuck away from her!" The girl stops when she sees the gun, "We don't have time to ask why. Point to where she is." We're too focused on the girl that I don't see Owen come closer to me until he jumps on me, "Lia!" Ellie shouts, but the girl pulls out a knife and starts to fight Ellie. I take my gun and shoot Owen in the chest and he falls to the ground with a pool of blood forming around him. I turn to help Ellie but she's on the ground on top of the girl while she pulls her switchblade out of the girls neck.
"No, no, no." Ellie mutters and I walk closer to see Ellie open the jacket and a very visible baby bump is on the girl, "Oh fuck. Oh fuck." Ellie mutters and she crawls away from the body. I stay frozen unable to take my eyes off of the pregnant woman's dead body. She looks like she was ready to give birth anytime. Why the fuck was she here? I don't even notice the tears down my face or the new people in the room until I jump back after someone touched my shoulder. My eyes meet Jesse's concerned gaze.
"Lia.." Jesse says softly and I just shake my head and let another tear fall. My eyes go back down to the pregnant woman's dead body. I hear Tommy's voice saying that we have to go but I can't peel my eyes away from her dead body. Jesse grabs my arm and pulls me away from the scene so we can get out of here.
That ladies name was Mel and we just killed her at 9 months pregnant
