The 20th chapter! I am going to do something special every 10 chapters. I will give some inside information about writing this book at the end note. Also, I will put a Cavelader's allegiance
Chapter 20
Dandelionstream whirled around, wanting to fight the foxes. But Silver had stopped her, confining her to her cave. Angel had been instructed to tell a Fighter if she left her mini-cave. But Dandelionstream had a few tricks of her own. She had found that her cave had a tunnel that led to the spot that the healers had stored their herbs.
Dandelionstream took a few for Angel.
When she got back, Dandelionstream played the part of a hungry mother. "Get some fresh-kill for me, will you, darling?"
Angel had instructed a Healer to give Dandelionstream some fish, and Angel a mouse. When she wasn't looking, Dandelionstream stuffed some poppyseeds in the mouse. She felt bad about tricking Angel into eating poppy seeds. After all, she was no older and Peachpaw. But it had to be done. Her kits were fine.
When Angel was asleep, Dandelionstream raced out of the main cave. four full-grown foxes were battling cats all around the clearing. Dandelionstream helped Mud, Moon, and Bracken fight the largest fox, with Rose and Eagle coming to help. The fox was soon wounded badly enough that it ran away.
Dandelionstream realized that Fern was crouched, frozen, as one of the foxes ran toward her.
She must be having flashbacks. She realized.
Fern's POV
Death. Blood. Fire. Fear-scent. Fox. Rain, screaming in pain. Wool, Dragging herself away. Feather, dying at Falcon's claws. Leafless, dying at Falcon's claws. Silver, saving Fern. A raven.
The fox attack was too much. The flash-backs were uncontrollable. Death. Blood. Fox. Rain, screaming. Wool-
"Get back!" The desperate cry brought her attention back to the present. Fern realized that a fox was closing in on her. Fern hissed at the fox before crumpling to the ground. Leafless, Feather, Wool, Rain, all dead.
"Fern, get up!"
Fern realized that that was Dandelionstream, the undersized visitor. Dandelionstream began clawing at the fox's muzzle. Fern recovered from her shock and raked her claws across his flank. The fox shrieked and ran away. That was the last.
Fern felt something. Something she hadn't felt for a long time.
Respect. Sure, she respected Minty as her leader, and Silver as her head healer. But Fern had never really respected anyone as themselves, only their title. But Fern realized she respected Dandelionstream as a cat. It was a big realization.
"Thank you," Fern said sincerely.
Dandelionstream looked surprised. Then she suddenly let out a gasp of pain, crumpling to the ground. Fern rushed over, alarmed. The healers were already out and treating wounds.
"Silver!" Fern cried. "Come help!"
Silver rushed over. Dandelionsteam was groaning in pain. Silver let out a hiss, but it was tinged with concern.
"I told her not to fight!" Silver exclaimed. "Not when she is expecting kits!"
Fern blinked in surprise. She saved me when she was expecting kits? Why? I was so mean…
Dandelionstream's POV
Dandelionstream woke up in the healer's cave with Silver's stern gaze staring down at her.
"You exerted and exhausted yourself." Silver said crisply. "Rest, and no fighting foxes."
Dandelionstream nodded, going to her mini-cave. Angel was still asleep when she got back, and Dandelionstream dragged her to her mini-cave. After that, she rested for a while, feeling comfortable. She was very comfortable, with her nest nice and toasty. With her belly full, and with her kits sturring in her belly.
I wish Oatclaw was here to enjoy it with me.
The thought was out before Dandelionstream could stop it.
Stupid! He's not your mate anymore!
But as the night deepened, she couldn't help wishing he was with her

CELEBRATION TIME! BEHIND THE SCENES! When creating Oatclaw, I wanted him to be exactly like Oakheart. But I think I made him more like Peeta from the Hunger Games. Or Thunder from warriors. Or Alderheart.
