Chapter 22: THAT WEIRD GUY "It is so very challenging to be head gamemaker," I, Gustaf (also known as That Weird Guy), am a very excellent host to The Hunger Games! It's such an entertaining and important event. While the tributes battle with both weapons and wits, all of the districts are united in the games. I cannot describe the historical importance of this event. "I don't see what's so difficult about it," mutters my companion. I forget his name, but it's not important anyway. "When you have only half as many tributes," I declare, "Creating landscapes and challenges requires much more creativity and intelligence. I have made a very successful Hunger Games this year." I suppose the deaths can be harsh, but most are glorious and emotional. I personally have placed a bet that the District 5 girl will win. But, usually the winner has the most blood on their hands, so Mary stands a fighting chance. Enough talk of politics and bets. I shake my head, distracted too easily by my thoughtfulness and smarts. I stare at the map of the arena, admiring each cactus and uneven bit of land. The cornucopia was also quite beautiful, though nobody has complimented me on it yet. The games remind me of a virtual game we would play in District 1. I hosted The Hollow, and my career was successful until the company started breaking laws (I broke a few laws too, but they don't know that). Obviously I couldn't just side with Hollow Games. It was bad for my image. Luckily, being a head gamemaker was an excellent alternative. "We're down to the final three tributes," one of my employees calls out, popping the images of three young women on screen. "Mary, Luna, and Violet," I say aloud, my voice projecting into the arena, "May the odds be ever in their favor…"
