Hi! I'm back already. I just want to thank you all for the support I got on the last chapter. I have the rest of this story planned out and next to me and I've had a lot of fun writing, so I hopefully will be committing to this again. I think you all might be a little excited about the next couple chapters, I know I am. :) Thank you so much for sticking with this.
Peter took a deep breath before causally sitting next to Tony on the couch. "Hey Tony…"
"What did you do?" The older man immediately turned to him with his eyebrows raised.
"What?"
He sighs. "You have that look on your face you get when you've done something wrong."
Peter mocks feeling hurt. "Name one example."
"When Dum-E sprayed my whole lab with the fire extinguisher." Tony tells him instantly.
"Uh… name another one."
"When you and Dum-E blew up the coffee pot."
"Okay anyway…" He trails off before glancing down at the rug. "Now I'm nervous."
"Why would you be nervous?" Tony gives him a confused look.
"I have a question, but I don't know how you'll respond."
"Now I'm the one who's nervous." He chuckles. "Just go for it, kid."
"How long have you and Pepper been dating?" Peter blurts out. That wasn't the question he really wanted to ask, but once he starts the conversation, he has to finish it.
"About 7 years, with some breaks in between. Oh, wow, it has really been that long. Why do you ask?"
"Are you guys ever going to get married?" He finally asks Tony, looking up at him.
Tony falters, seeming confused. "That is a pretty big question, you're right. I'm not sure. Do you want us to?"
"I wouldn't be opposed to it, but I'm only asking because I'm curious." That was the truth. He was just curious. His mentor had put his entire life on hold to take care of Peter and he wanted to make sure he wasn't getting in the way of stuff from his old life. Like his relationship with Pepper. "I just remember when I first moved in with May and Ben, they had all these big plans. They wanted to move to the west coast and visit Italy and do so many things, but when they took me in, those plans got derailed. I just… want to make sure that doesn't happen to you too."
"Oh, Peter. I'm sure you are better than any plans they could've possibly made. And you aren't messing up anything for me. I'm more than happy with how my life is right now. Seriously."
"I- okay." He chose, for once, to not argue when Tony says he's not a burden.
"Okay then." He leaned back against the couch and folded his arms across his chest. "Do you think I should?"
"Propose?"
"Yeah."
"Do you think you should?"
"I don't know. Do you think she'll say yes?" Tony asks him with a small smirk.
"She's been dating you for 7 years so probably. I don't know her super well though." Peter shrugged before leaning back on the couch as well.
"In all honesty kid, I've been thinking about it. I just didn't want this to feel like too much for you."
He sat forward wide eyed. "Are you kidding? I love weddings! And I love you guys so it's perfect!"
"You love weddings? How many have you been to?" Tony challenged.
"I used to watch Say Yes to the Dress with May and sometimes I still do when it's on TLC, and I'm not sorry about it."
That made Tony laugh. "Okay. Can I show you something if you promise to keep it a secret?"
"Yes?" Peter told him.
Tony stood, so Peter did as well, and they both headed to the lab. There, Tony opened a top drawer in one of his desks and pulled out a small black box.
"Here." He passed it to Peter.
He opened it slowly and was shocked to find a small ring inside. It was double banded with small diamonds around each one and one bigger diamond in the center. It was fancy and expensive looking, but not overboard or too large, which he thinks Pepper will appreciate.
Peter gasps. "Tony! How long have you had that?"
"Since right before the whole accords fiasco."
He finds that hard to believe. "No way!"
"Yeah." Tony shrugs.
"So are you going to do it?" Peter sighs, slowly closes the box, and passes it back to Tony who cautiously puts it back in the drawer. "Sorry, I don't mean to push you into this if it's not something you want."
"Trust me, Pete. It's something I want. Are you sure it's something you're okay with?"
"Definitely."
"Okay then let's make a plan."
That night, everything was good to go. They had a table out on the balcony set up for a nice dinner, the weather was nice, and their food was cooked perfectly. Tony was dressed up nice, as was Peter, and they both stood by the door and waited for Pepper anxiously. After a few minutes, she came up in the elevator.
"Okay is everything good? Are we ready?" Tony asked anxiously.
"Yeah it's all good, go sit down." Peter assured him, pushing the older man towards his girlfriend.
"Hello, Ms. Potts." He greeted her, leading her outside.
"Hello, Mr. Stark. What's all this about?"
"What? I can't do something good for my amazing girlfriend?" He smiles at her before they take their seats across from each other.
"Not usually, no. But this is very nice, thank you."
Peter took that as his cue to head outside. He offered to be their waiter of sorts and bring out food and drinks.
"Hello, can I interest you in some champagne?" He told them with a dazzling smile.
"Peter! You look so cute!" Pepper gushed.
"Shh, Pepper. I'm on duty." He whispered to her before pouring them a drink. "I'll be back with your food in a moment."
"Ooh what are we having?" She asks Tony, excited.
"It's a surprise."
Peter returns a moment later carrying two plates. Thanks to his powers, he didn't have to worry about dropping them.
"I love steak and potatoes." Pepper smiled softly when she saw what it was.
"I know. They're homemade." Tony takes the plates from Peter and playfully shoos him away. "Last time I made you a meal I-"
Pepper's eyes widen, "was dying! Oh my God, Tony, are you dying?"
"Do you think I would set you up a nice dinner and have Peter help if I was going to tell you I was dying?" He gives her a look.
"I suppose not." She relents.
"Yeah. So anyway, the last time I made you dinner I had something important to tell you. There's something else important we need to discuss that is hopefully better than me dying." He stands and walks over to Pepper, taking her hands as she stands to face him. "Virginia Pepper Potts, you are the most beautiful, brilliant, badass person I've ever met."
"Oh my God." Her eyes widen as she realizes what is happening.
"I love you more than any other person in the entire world and I want to spend the rest of my life with you." He gets down on one knee.
"Oh, Tony."
He pulls out the box from his suit pocket and opens it up. "Will you marry me?"
"Yes!" She squeals.
He grabs her by the waist and pulls her into a passionate kiss before sliding the ring onto her finger. She hugs him tightly and they are both in tears. A few seconds later, a mop of brown hair pokes out onto the balcony.
"Did she say yes?" Peter asks excitedly.
"Yes, yes! Of course I said yes!" Pepper squeals.
Peter practically jumps for joy. "Congratulations! You guys are getting married!"
"C'mere kid." Tony pulls him over and hugs both his kid and his fiancé. "Let's go get ice cream and celebrate."
"Okay! I'd never say no to ice cream." Peter chirps.
"But what about dinner?" Pepper laughs.
"Stick it in the fridge?" Tony asks.
They head down into the garage and climb into a sleek black Audi, one of Tony's favorite cars.
"Where are we going?" Pepper asks, leaning her head against Tony's shoulder.
"Baskin Robbins?" He offers.
"Sounds good."
"I want gold medal ribbon ice cream so badly I could cry." Peter says from the backseat. "What are you guys getting?"
"I'm not sure, I'll see when I get there." Pepper answers.
Tony thinks for a second before saying, "Something with lots of chocolate for sure."
"Of course." Pepper laughs.
"Waffle cones?" Tony offers.
"Duh." Peter immediately responds.
Peter runs ahead of Pepper and Tony into the ice cream shop as they hold hands and stroll behind him. He immediately walks up to the ice cream display and looks at all the different flavors. Soon after, Tony and Pepper join him. After many different testers, they've finally settled on their flavors, so Tony heads up to the counter.
"Can I get a two scoop gold medal ribbon in a dipped waffle cone, a two scoop German chocolate chip in a dipped waffle cone, and a two scoop lemon custard in a cake cone?" He asks the teenage girl behind the counter.
"Sure, that'll be $16.06."
"Here you go." He hands her his credit card.
When she passes back the card, she sees who is standing in front of her and her eyes widen. "Hey, aren't you Tony Stark."
"Yep." He smiles at her before leaving a generous tip and disappearing through the door.
"That kid was so shook." Peter giggles.
"I know, it was really funny." Tony agrees.
"Hey you two, be nice." Pepper scolds before countering, "Peter still gets starstruck."
"I do not!"
"Thor." Tony says and Peter's face immediately turns bright red, much to the boy's embarrassment and his guardians' amusement. "See! You're blushing!"
"That's because it's Thor." He defends.
When they walk back into the penthouse, their laughs falter. In front of them, nervously sitting on their couch, is a familiar super soldier with a shiny metal arm.
"Hey Tony… I'm back from Wakanda. Can we talk?"
