Series 2, Episode 28 ~ House of Impasse

They were ready to take on the pendulums.

Each of them had crossed their makeshift bridge with everyone jumping in rhythm 4 times, once even with the bench turned so, they only had the narrow underside to cross with to make it more realistic (Alfie wasn't too happy when Camilla suggested this idea).

"I can't get that..." Amber started to loudly but slowly beatbox the rhythm Alfie had been beatboxing all day as the Sibuna's watched Nina put the code into the fake door, "out of my head."

"That's a good thing, Amber," Nina reassured the girl as they all slipped past her and into Roberts secret study.

"You do realise there is an actual band called Pendulum?" Patricia told Camilla showing the girl her phone in excitement. Camilla was slightly glad she didn't sleep in the same room as Patricia as she looked down at the cover art of a metal band she had never heard of. When Patricia found a new band, she liked she blasted their music pretty much 24/7.

It was Fabian who brought the conversation between the Sibuna's too a halt with his question of, "Where's the bookcase?"

Almost as if he knew or for dramatic effect – in Anubis house everything was possible – the bookcase swung round to reveal Victor causing the Sibuna's to look at him with shock.

They had just been caught. Or so they thought.

After a few seconds the chime from Robert that Camilla, Nina and Fabian all heard rang out around the room. "to those who've trespassed where they do not belong. The beacon of light is your warning song," Camilla put her hand to her amulet of Isis that hung around her neck as she glanced to Fabian his eyes widening in realisation at his sister's actions. Because she now wore Isis's amulet the symbol of the protector, Victor was vulnerable and he wasn't shielded by the light which meant he now was blinded for 24 hours. "Your eyes shall not see. All shall be dark. Until Ra completes his blazing ark,"

Fabian turned to Nina and waved his hand across his eyes to indicate to her that Victor couldn't see. Nina nodded the passed the message around as silently as she could. Victor had started to move at this point causing the Sibuna's and him to pay an impossible game of blind man's buff, all of them as silently as they could trying to stop him from touching them. Until Fabian finally pulled Nina out of harm's way and pushed the button to cause the door into the cellar to open, Victor stumbling out.

The moment the door was free it was Camilla, who had hidden behind a lamp to avoid Victor's hands, that broke the silence, "That's going to be fun tomorrow."

Fabian smiled and looked out the peephole and gave the nod that it was all clear causing the rest of the Sibuna's to let out sighs of relief, Patricia holding her hand out to help Camilla climb over the desk and back to them. Neither girl sure of how she had managed to get so stuck in the corner.

It was kind of agreed that it was way too risky to do anything that night, they had to figure out what was going on with Victor and how the hell he'd found his way into the secret study. Camilla was acutely aware of Fabian's gaze as they reached the kitchen, but she was in the dark as the rest of the Sibuna's.

"It's fine! I'm fine! Please don't fuss," Victor spoke.

"Let me look at your eyes," Vera said, Camilla (on all fours) seeing the woman guide the man onto one of the living room couches from the kitchen door.

"I'm getting better,"

"You can see?"

"Not exactly..." Victor explained to the housemother, "but now instead of a big dark blur, I see a big light blur."

The Sibuna's all glanced into the living room to see Vera place something over Victor's face, "it's a cold compress, Victor," with that they started to sneak from the kitchen, Camilla keeping guard. The small girl's mouth turning into a frown as she heard Vera say, "there must be some sort of switch to turn it off,"

"Well there is nothing at the entrance..." before Camilla could hear anything more Fabian had grabbed her arm and they followed the other Sibuna's as they expertly navigated the stairs all of them making sure to jump over the 6th one – after their adventures last year it now had a slight creak to it.

They burst into the girl's bedroom all looking at one another with a mixture of shock and relief. "Oh it's so good to make noise again," Amber said as she shut the door.

"Oh but don't be afraid to not." Alfie chimed in, causing Camilla to elbow him causing a yelp. She loved Alfie but he was really pushing his luck with Amber. Yes, he wanted them to break up because she wasn't the idealised version he thought she was, but degrading her was not the answer and Camilla would not stand for it.

"How did Victor get in there?" Nina asked, not so subtly looking to Camilla who raised her hands innocently. She and Victor may be somewhat friends, but that didn't mean she knew what he did in his free time other than talking to stuffed birds and singing to plants.

"let's not panic yet," Fabian spoke suddenly as he saw Nina's look turn into one of accusation at Camilla's movement and the dark look that crossed his sister's face was one he knew no one wanted to be on the receiving end of.

Camilla said she didn't tell he believed her. Nothing else needed to be said.

"He's only seen the antechamber," Fabian explained as the Sibuna's turned to look at him.

"and he can't get through to the tunnel," Patricia smiled holding up her amulet. It had been her idea to take them with them, so Victor (and Vera Camilla now knew) couldn't get passed the light.

"These Amulets are not safe in our rooms," Fabian said as they all, bar Camilla, looked at the amulets they were now holding.

"then we'll hide them," Nina said as if that was simple, "in the one place he won't search..." with that she placed her Amulet around her neck missing Camilla's brief nose crinkle – she knew Victor if he was determined enough he'd find a way to get the amulets but it was Vera that worried her. "What do we do with the spare?"

"Give it to Cam?" Amber offered but Nina shook her head causing Camilla to frown and look at her shoes.

"Too risky," was all Nina said and Camilla wasn't alone in realising she was saying that because of her Camilla's bond with Victor – though only Fabian and Amber knew about the magic classes he taught.

"What about the dollhouse?" Fabian offered quietly as he looked over at his sister seeing the hurt look on her face as Nina refused to give her a chance at protecting the Amulet. The others nodded at his offer and Nina walked past Camilla to put it into the dollhouse's secret drawer.

"Now what?" Patricia asked them all. "we've still got to get across the beam,"

"we'll we can't go back tonight, it's way too risky," Fabian spoke up.

"We'll go first thing before everyone else gets up," Nina instructed, "let's all get some sleep."

"The morning really?" Camilla muttered as she turned to Amber, "I can't remember the last time I didn't have bags under my eyes. Morning trips with evening ones are going actually kill me,"

Late nights, Camilla could deal with, but the early start's not so much. Nina wasn't happy when Camilla forced them all to wait until she had made a flask of tea, but her argument (which was backed up from Fabian and Alfie) of the probably of her falling into the chasm was a lot lower if she had some caffeine in her system than none. Was Camilla a little bitter about Nina's lack of trust (a little) was she purposefully making tea to annoy her – (slightly) though she did think she'd probs fall of the beam even if she didn't have to worry about pendulums if she didn't have something to wake her up.

Of course, before they could do any of that however they had to deal with Alfie's weird spy movements as he rolled around the floor before doing some weird hand gesture to them all. They all turned to Camilla as Alfie did what looked like an interpretive dance for some kind of explanation, "Jerome's in the bathroom..." she told them all through a yawn. At that time, something clattered in the kitchen causing them all to dive for cover, Patricia and Camilla using the cellar door and Nina and Amber using the sarcophagus in the hallway.

"How'd you get in here?!" They heard Alfie hiss to whoever it was. "what are you doing creeping around? Its 6 am!"

"what are you doing creeping around?" Camilla recognised the voice and mouthed to the girls 'It's Poppy'.

"I won't ask if you don't?" once again Alfie resolved a situation easily and Camilla used that opportunity to sneak into the living room as Poppy ran up the hallway to Jerome's room. She had one thing on her mind. TEA.

The swings of the pendulums now they could all pick up on the rhythm weren't as reassuring a swish noise as Fabian had promised his sister they would be. The 6 Sibuna's all gulped not wanting to be the first to attempt to cross.

Fabian took a deep breath, "I'll go first, just to you all how straight forward it is." He said as if it was the easiest thing in the world.

With that, he took a deep breath and stepped onto the beam. With each pendulum, the Sibuna's couldn't help but gasp in worry. Around the middle, Fabian paused no one them knowing why.

"Come on Fabian, show us what you're made of," Camilla called to her brother in support.

"I'm not really made of much," Fabian honestly replied in a slightly higher pitch than normal but Camilla support helped him as he stepped forward again. All of them waiting with bated breath as he took his final step and was on the other side, all of them letting out cheers as he made it. Fabian panting slightly from the other side as his hands shot into the air in victory as he turned to face them all. The biggest smile Camilla had seen on his face in a while. "Come on Nina," he said holding his hand out to her.

Nina nodded before she took her place on the beam. There was more hope this time, though Amber and Camilla were clutching onto each other with worry the whole time Nina was crossing. As she reached the other side Fabian pulled her into a hug. Alfie and Patricia's crossings were as scary as the rest but with Camilla and Amber left they paused.

Amber didn't want to do it. "Come on Amber, you've got this!" Nina screamed words of encouragement to her friend. The blonde clutching Camilla's hand in fear.

"We'll go together," Camilla whispered to her friend. "You first and me right behind you."

Amber nodded before letting out a whimper as she stepped onto the beam. The moment she passed the first pendulum Camilla stepped onto the beam.

"Camilla! What are you doing?" Fabian screamed but Camilla didn't care, her focus was on getting Amber across. For once she put her life into her Deity's hands. She didn't even think when to step forward she did so when it felt right. Her complete attention was on Amber and whispering encouragement to the girl as they crossed.

Amber dove into Alfie's arms the moment she was across and Fabian then pulled Camilla into his a few seconds later, "you idiot!" he mumbled into her hair pulling her tight, Camilla hugging her brother back just as tight.

The moment Alfie let go of Amber she blonde turned to Camilla, "thank you," was all she said and Camilla grabbed her friends' hand and simply said.

"Girls united remember."

"Always," Amber agreed with a nod of her head.

"Okay guys, the exciting part..." Nina smiled at them all, "let's see what's down here."

"This should be interesting considering what we've seen so far," Fabian said causing smirks to appear on their faces.

The Sibuna's all turned to walk into the next chamber.

"As long as it doesn't involve bugs," Amber said her and Camilla were still clutching each other's hands.

"A giant rolling ball." Patricia offered.

"subterranean cannibals!" Alfie put on a spooky voice and mock eating at Patricia's neck causing her to laugh and push him away.

Just then they reached a wall. A dead end. All of them looking confused because the map defiantly didn't show a dead end on it.

Patricia started to push on the wall with a grunt, "it doesn't open!"

Fabian knocked on it putting his ear the wall.

"No, there's got to be something," Nina said causing them all to look around for anything to show them what to do. But there was nothing.

Of course, that meant that was on their minds for the remainder of the day, "No one guessed Dead End!" Alfie frustratedly said as they walked from PE through the halls of the school.

"It can't be right, it just can't be," Fabian muttered, not helping but saying what they were all thinking.

"It just doesn't make sense," Camilla added.

"none of this makes any sense." Amber agreed with Camilla.

"We must have missed something," Nina softly said to them all, "we need to look at the map." They nodded.

"Alfie..." Jerome hissed causing Alfie to stop as they all kept walking.

Eddie was by his locker as Camilla approached her's – him taking Mick's two lockers down from her and Amber's.

"Bonjour Jerk," Camilla greeted him as she opened her locker and stuffed her PE kit inside.

"Hola Nerd." Eddie grinned at her, which Camilla copied when she saw the smile. Neither of them were too sure the exact moment when they had started to call each other that but neither were too bothered by it. "I heard you were assigned to the new school blog," Camilla said conversationally, "a bit of a weak punishment for wormy chocolate."

"What can I say I can talk my way out of anything," Eddie said with a confident shrug.

"Whatever you say Jr," Camilla muttered to herself as she pulled out her copy of Much Ado About Nothing which she had tabbed like hell – it was one of her favourite Shakespeare plays and she was quite happy they were studying it in Drama.

"What?" Eddie asked sharply.

"What?" Camilla replied innocently.

"I thought you said something," Eddie said confused.

Camilla shook her head and closed her locker, "you must be hearing things, have fun with your meeting. Don't try to die to death with boredom."

"Bored while Yacker is there? I don't think that's possible." Eddie replied causing a wide grin to form on Camilla's face as she waved at him before leaving down the corridor. Since admitting unwillingly, he did have a crush on Patricia at the ball Eddie was always making small comments like that about her – only around Camilla who knew about his crush. The girl couldn't wait for the day the two got together because though annoying Eddie was practically made for the girl and Camilla knew he'd treat her right.

The four OG Sibuna's where sat in the circle looking down at the map of the tunnels in the girl's bedroom. "There's no dead end on here," Fabian pointed out, "they tunnel just goes straight through."

"There's been nothing from the dollhouse," Amber added with a sigh.

"We're missing something," Nina added, "something obvious."

"Uh Duh," Camilla grumbled slightly.

"Well it's late, and we can't think straight so we'll get some sleep and reconvene tomorrow," Fabian suggested getting nods from Amber and Camilla.

Camilla getting to her feet before holding out her hands to help pull Amber onto her's with a smile. Nina groaned and folded the map. "Don't worry Nim, we'll figure this out," Amber reassured her.

That night the worst thing that could off happened happened. The spirit visited Nina again, and after Camilla's last display it was safe to say she was pissed off. Camilla woke up with a start as Amber let out a gasp and pulled back her duvet. Camilla didn't need to do more than sit up from her bed to know what had happened.

They were all cursed now. All their lives now rested in them finding that Mask.
