Chapter 30: Mankind - Redefined

Inside of the lobby of the rundown hotel, Danse was talking with the gang.
Piper nodded and replied, "That was a amazing duel, Danse. Great deck."
Danse then replied, "Haylen helped find the cards and the cards she stole from the Brotherhood. It worked out a lot for us."
Rhys sighed and replied, "Again, I want to apologize for everything I did to bring you down, Danse."
Danse then replied, "You had the courage to stand up and swear back at that asshole, Rhys. You'll always be welcomed as a true friend."
Rhys nodded and he saw Nate and he replied, "I have something for you to have, Nate."
He went into his pants pocket and took 4 cards (Which were a Synchro and 3 other Effect monsters) and Rhys replied, "We found these cards and I was supposed to bargain them to you for Danse, but I decided to fuck it and keep them for myself. I heard about your deck and I thought you'd have more use of them."
Nate grabbed the cards and he nodded and replied, "This will be perfect for my main deck, Rhys. Thank you very much."
He slid them into his pocket and Mike then replied, "Glad you're okay, Danse. I wish you and your team the best."
Danse nodded and replied, "You three are decent people. Thank you for helping us stand up to those fools. I wish your group the best of luck. Come back at anytime."
The group turned around and left and Haylen looked at Rhys and replied, "Ready to make yourself at home, brother?"
Rhys only smiled as they headed towards the hotel area of the resort.

Back at the food court area of New Mallville, The gang was enjoying some breakfast after returning that night and heading right to bed. The citizens had been helping by keeping a eye on Dogmeat and Codsworth while Nate is gone.
Piper nodded and replied, "Great to finally be home again."
Nate nodded and replied, "That is true, Piper. You always miss the small stuff if your'e always away."
As they went back to eating, a Courser walked and it was another male and it began to speak, "Morning, chosen ones. I'm X4-18, a courser messenger for Father."
Nate then replied, "Okay. What does my son want?"
"He wants you to join a team meeting with the other heads of the Institute for a special announcement, sir."
Nate then replied, "Are my friends allowed to go?"
The courser nodded and replied, "Yes, sir. I was to make sure they came with us as well. You all ready?"
Piper sighed and replied, "We just got home as well. Ready, bae?"
Mike smiled and he nodded as he stood up and the courser replied, "Follow me outside. The guards don't want us relaying to the institute while inside of the city. Let's go now."
They all got up and left and Danny saw this from another table and he replied, "I wonder what that was about?"

A hour or so later, the gang was at a large table inside of a large duel arena-like room. The director heads were tere. Clayton Holdren of Bioscience, Allie Filmore the Chief Engineer, Madison Li the head of Advanced Systems, Dean Volkert the head Physician and Justin Ayo, Director of the Synth Retention Bureau. X6-88, X4-18 and 3 other Coursers were watching by Justin Ayo's side. Mike's parents were also invited to view the meeting and they were sitting near their son.
Father nodded and replied, "Morning, everyone. Please be seated."
Everyone did so and then Father resumed, "I've very proud of all of your hard work and everything we've done down here to make sure everything goes right. Each of the areas of our Institute have been getting better and better over time. I'm so proud of all each and every one of you. Now with my son here, It has been even better. Now for the announcement I'm speaking about right now that within the next month, I'm retiring from being Head Director of the Institute."
Gasps were heard from all over and Father replied, "I'm also here to ask something, Nate, will you come up here?"
He nodded as walked over to him and Father resumed, "I have to ask you this. Since you are my only blood family I have in this sad new world, I'd ask you something."
Nate then replied, "Go ahead, son."
"Thank you. I want to have a important duel with you and if you win, I'd give you the chance run the Institute or choose one of the department heads to run it for us after I decide to retire and If I win, I choose who I want and they must take the job. Can I ask you for a duel against your Wastelander deck later this evening?"
Nate then replied, "I'd he honored to do so."
"Excellent. You'll be allow to use your Special Cards if you want to, son. I won't hold it against you if do so."
He turned to his director heads and he replied, "All of you are to report to his arena and watch from the 2nd floor viewing are and and my son's friends can watch down here as well. I need to make sure my own deck is ready. With that said and done, this meeting is adjourned."
Everyone got to leave and Father looked at Nate and replied, "See you later for our duel, father."
Nate nodded as they all got up and left.

Back in a meeting room near the bottom floor, Nate was going over his deck with Piper and Mike nearby enjoying some sodas that were made in the Institute BioScience area. Allie Filmore allowed them to use and she would make sure they were not disturbed.
Nate nodded and replied, "With those cards Rhys gave us, my Wastlander deck is the best ever."
Piper sipped her soda and she sighed and replied, "best Root Beer I've ever had. They really know how to make the best things down here."
Mike then replied, "Wow a offer from your son, Nate. You have any idea what'll you going to do, buddy?"
"I really don't know who would be able to handle the Institute after he does retire, gang. This is going to the toughest choice I ever had to make in my life."
Piper then replied, "What ever you decide we'll be behind all of the way, buddy. You can do this."
Nate nodded as he went back to working on his deck.

Inside of his office in the Synth Retention office, Justin Ayo was nervous about what Father told everyone. X6-88 and X4-18 where there as well.
Ayo sighed and replied, "This is going to be good or it's going to be horrible decision."
X6-88 sighed and replied, "If he'd never discover this place at all, this wouldn't be a issue with him as well."
"I know. If he chooses himself or anyone but us, they'll pay for that foolish decision."
X6-88 and replied, "We can convince him to allow you to be the new leader."
"You will do nothing of the sort, X6. We'll all be in trouble if he found that out."
"Yes, sir.", X6-88 said with a sigh.
He and the other courser quickly left his office and Ayo then replied, "I would be able to run this place perfectly."

Later that evening in the arena, the heads and all other scientists not on duty were watching the duel from the top floor. the division leaders were there and both X6-88 and X4-18 were watching from the second floor. Piper and Mike were watching from a bench that was in the arena as well.
Father then replied, "I welcome to this very special duel This will decide the future of this beautiful Institute. If I win this duel against my own father, I will decide who I would want to become the other Instutute Head after I do retire and I plan on doing so by the end of the month. For now, let's have a duel."
Everyone (Except for the Coursers) clapped and Father replied, "Ready, dad?"
Nate nodded as he activated his duel disk and Father activated the duel vest that was used by Duel Academy professors and it lit up and his deck auto shuffled and then both drew 5 cards.
"Time to duel.", both announced.
(Father LP: 8000 / Nate LP: 8000)
Father then replied, "Make your move, dad."
Nate then replied, "I'll set a monster and call it a turn."
Father drew a card and replied, "I first play Foolish Burial."
He quickly discarded it and his deck reshuffled and he replied, "I now summon my Gozuki."
As he sat card down, the bull-headed zombie appeared (ATK: 1,700).
"I'll discard another card with it's effect."
He quickly did so and replied, "I'll attack."
The zombie rushed in and a Wastelander Spy appeared (DEF: 800) and was blown to shards as the zombie struck it down with the hammer.
"I'll set a card and that'll end my turn now."
Nate drew a card and replied, "I summon my Wastelander Crusader."
As he sat the card down, the Crusader appeared with his swords (ATK: 1,900).
"Crusader, attack."
He went and brought his sword, cutting Gozuki right the middle with his swords. The pieces shattered into dust (Father LP: 8000 - 7900).
"Your move, son."
Father drew a card and replied, "I'll set a monster and that'll end my turn now."
Nate drew a card and replied, "I summon my Warrior Dai Grepher."
As he sat the card down, the muscular Warrior appeared (ATK: 1,700).
"Attack."
He went and a grey colored ghost-like zombie appeared (DEF: 0) and Grepher slashed with his sword and then it dissolved into formless mist.
"That was strange. Attack my son directly."
Crusader ran in and Father quickly replied, "I activate my Gray Ghost's effect. Since I'm about to be attacked directly, it comes back to defend me."
The ghost appeared and Crusader struck it and it dissolved once more.
"Clever. I end my turn now."
Father drew a card and replied, "Now, I activate Haunted Shrine to revive my Crow Tengu from my graveyard."
As his trap flipped up a black crow-like zombie with somesort of ancient fan in its talons appeared (ATK: 1,400).
"Since I Special Summoned him from my graveyard, one of your cards is destroyed."
Wastelander Crusader burst into triangles.
"I now tribute to summon my Nine-Tailed Fox."
As the crow zombie faded away, a large orange fiery fox with nine-tailes (Duh) appeared with a small screech (ATK: 2,200) and Mike nodded and replied,"I see what kind of deck that Father is using."
Piper looked at him and replied, "Some kind of Zombie Rush deck, baby?"
"Sort off. It's a deck based on Yōkai creatures from Japanese folklore. They were actually demons, but they came into the game as Zombie monsters. Most of them have amazing abilites as well."
"Attack his Grepher."
The demon fox let a burst of flames from its mouth and muscular Warrior was incinerated and the charred sword fell to the ground and shattered into dust as it struck the ground (Nate LP: 8000 - 7500).
"Your turn now."
Nate drew a card and replied, "I'll set a monster and 1 card facedown and that'll end my turn now."
Father drew a card and replied, "My fox attacks."
The fox let out another burst of flames and a Wastelander Dog appeared on the card (DEF: 1,000) and the flames turned to smoke before they could strike him.
"Your move now, father."
Nate drew a card and replied, "I summon my Wastelander Soldier."
As he sat the card down, the wastelander with a green tattered coat and a rifle appeared (ATK: 1,800) and he aimed at the fiery fox (ATK: 2,200 - 1,000).
"Destroy his monster."
He aimed the rifle and fired two shots and they shot out and struck the fiery fox and it burst into a shower of fiery embers (Father LP: 7900 - 7100) and Father nodded and replied, "When Nine-Tailed Fox is destroyed, I get two Fox tokens."
Suddenly, two small fiery foxes appeared (DEF: 200 x2).
"I'll set a card and that'll end my turn now."
Father drew a card and replied, "I'll set a monster and that'll end my turn now."
Nate drew a card and replied, "I summon my Wastelander Enchanter."
As he sat the card down, another male wastelander appeared. He wore a red and white tattered blue vault-like suit and he had two large scars on both of his arms had a long white beard and held two daggers for weapons (ATK: 1,800).
"Crusader, go for the facedown monster."
He went and a fiery black crane-like zombie appeared on the card (DEF: 1,000) and he stabbed his daggers into it and shattered into black fiery embers and then Nate replied, "When it destroys a monster, I can banish any monster from your graveyard. Banish your Crow Tengu."
He quickly did so and then Soldier aimed his rifle and fired a shot and one of the tokens shattered to little bits.
"Your turn now."
Father drew a card and replied, "I summon my Ōmukade."
As he sat the card down, a demon-like centipede-like creature appeared. It had a yellow head and about 40 legs as well (ATK: 900).
"Next, I activate Haunted Shrine."
The trap flipped up and the fiery crane that he just destroyed appeared.
"When I Special Summon Onmaraki from my graveyard, I get to draw a card."
He did so and replied, "I now tune my Ōmukade with my Fox Token and Onmaraki."
The centipede glowed as it split into 2 white stars, which turned into green rings and the rings went through the Fox Token and the fiery crane, which turned into a total of 5 stars (*2 + *1 + *4 = *7).
"I Synchro Summon...Tsuchigumo."
As he sat the card down, a large brown spider with 4 yellow eyes appeared (ATK: 2,750).
"When I Synchro Summon my Tsuchigumo, I can discard any Zombie from my deck to the graveyard."
He quickly did so and reshuffled and replied, "I now use my Ōmukade's effect. Since I Synchro Summon using it, I can draw a card and if the card is a zombie, I can reveal it and draw again."
He drew another card and he flipped it around and was a monster called Beast of the Pharaoh and drew a new card and he replied, "I attack your Soldier."
The spider screeched and a a burst of white webs shot out and the web hit and began to burn through his clothing and started to burn his skin! The Soldier let out a weak groan of pain before he shattered into triangles (Nate LP: 7500 - 6550).
"Your turn now."
Nate drew a card and replied, "I summon my Wastelander Kid."
As he sat the card down, the younger wastelander appeared (ATK: 900).
"I tune my Kid with my Dog."
He smiled as he split into 2 white stars, which turned into green rings and the rings went through Wastelander Dog, which turned into 3 white stars (*2 + *3 = *5).
"I Synchro Summon...Wastelander Star Paladin Mdl X7W."
As he sat the card down, a robotic suit with a minigun for a weapon appeared (ATK: 1,200).
"I use his effect and I'll equip it to my Crusader."
Crusader walked to the suit and he went behind it and it opened up and he walked in and then the suit closed up (ATK: 1,800 - 3,000).
"The monster equips to a Wastelander monster and it gains 1,200 attack and defense. Destroy his monster."
The machine's gun began to whirl and then a burst of bullets and tore through the spider-like demon. It screeched before it exploded into pixels (Father LP: 7100 - 6850) and Nate replied, "When a Wastelander equipped with that Synchro destroys a monster in battle, you take damage equal to the ATK of the level of your monster times 100."
Father only sighed (Father LP: 6850 - 6150) and Nate then replied, "Banish your Synchro due to my Enchanter's effect."
Father did so and he replied, "When my monster is banished or destroyed in battle, I get 2 Spider Tokens."
Suddenly, two small tokens appeared (DEF: 500 x2).
Father drew a card and replied, "I activate Mystical Space Typhoon."
The storm shot and smashed into the power armor and Enchanter got out of the armor quickly before it exploded into broken metal (ATK: 3,000 - 1,800).
"I now use the effect of Kuzunoha. Since it's in my graveyard and I discarded it with my Synchro's effect. I can tribute a zombie to summon it from my graveyard."
As one of the tokens shattered, a large beaiutiful white furred wolf appeared and it had black eyes and it was growling (ATK: 2,000).
"When Summoned when this ability, I can return up to 5 zombies I have banished or in my graveyard to my deck and my monster gains 100 attack for each and one of your cards loses the same amount."
He took his Synchro, Ōmukade, his banished Gozuki, Omnaraki and his Nine-Tailed Fox and and shuffled them into the deck and the wolf glowed (ATK: 2,000 - 2,500) and Nate's warrior groaned (ATK: 1,800 - 1,300).
"Attack with Howl of the Night."
THe wolf howled and a wave of white energy shout and and struck the Wastelander, blowing him to little triangles (Nate LP: 6550 - 5350).
"Your turn now, dad."
Nate drew a card and replied, "I summon my Wastelander Ace."
As he sat the card down, the young Wastelander appeared with a switchblade knife in his pocket (ATK: 500) and then he knelt (DEF: 500).
"I'll set a card and call it a turn."
Father drew a card and replied, "I summon my Shuntendoji."
As he sat the card down, another demon-like creature with a jug full of booze appeared (ATK: 1,500).
"I'll attack with my Shutendoji first."
The zombie began glow and it opened its mouth and a burst of white flames shot out and Nate quickly replied, "I activate Scrap-Iron Scarecrow."
The metal scarecrow appeared and took the attack and then it went back to facedown and then the he pointed to his wolf and it howled and then the Wastelander shattered to pieces as the howling attack hit him and both drew 2 cards and he replied, "Your turn now."
Nate drew a card and replied, "I'll summon my Wastelander Captain."
As he sat the card down, the captain appeared (ATK: 1,600) and he checked the top card of his deck and he turned the card around and it was a Wastelander Sniper and he played and the sniper appeared (ATK: 1,900).
"I overlay my 2 Level 4 Wastelander monsters."
both Warrios turned into glowing white orbs and a portal opened up and they flew into it and then his Wastelander Scavenger appeared (ATK: 2,200) and then he replied, "Monster Reborn."
Suddenly, the battle armor reappeared (ATK: 1,200) and Scavenger equipped himself to it (ATK: 2,200 - 3,400) and then he removed a Xyz Material monster and a counter flew into his armor (ATK: 3,400 - 3,600) and then he replied, "I now attack your Kuzunoha."
The armored wastelander fired its minigun and the zombie was blasted into pixels as the attack hit it (Father LP: 6150 - 5050) and then he glowed (Father LP: 5050 - 4450) replied, "Your turn now."
Father drew a card and replied, "I'll switch my Shutendoji to defense and then I'll set a new monster and a card facedown and that'll end my turn now."
Nate drew a card and replied, "I summon my Gearfried The Iron Knight."
As he sat the card down, Gearfried appeared (ATK: 1,800 and he quickly discarded another card and the 2nd counter flew into the counter (ATK: 3,600 - 3,800).
"Gearfried, attack."
The iron knight went and swung his sword, besecting the zombie at the waist. The two pieves shattered to dust.
"Your turn, Scavenger."
He aimed and fired off his minigun and a Morphing Jar appeared on the card (DEF: 600) and was blasted to little bits as the bullets tore through it (Father LP: 4450 - 4250) and both discarded their current hands and both drew 5 cards and Nate replied, "I'll set a card and that'll call it a turn."
Father drew a card and replied, "I activate Twin Twisters."
He discarded a card and and two wind storms formed and shot out. The facedown Scrap-Iron Scarecrow card was torn apart and then the 2nd one slammed into the armor suit and it shattered to pieces once more (ATK: 3,800 - 2,600).
Father drew a card and replied, "I'll activate Book of Life."
The spell appeared.
"I'll summon my Crow Tengu and I'm banishing your Synchro."
The crow-like zombie appeared again (ATK: 1,400) and the Synchro's card appeared and faded away into dust and then the eyes of the crow glowed as the Xyz burst into triangles and then he drew 2 cards and then banished the next two facedown and then Father played another card and the well known Plaguespreader Zombie appeared (ATK: 400).
"I tune it with my Crow Tengu."
The bloated zombie glowed as it split into 2 white stars, which turned into green rings and the rings went through Crow Tengu, which turned into 4 white stars (*2 + *4 = *6).
"I Synchro Summon..Koromodako."
As he sat the card down, a huge octopus with many tentacles appeared (ATK: 2,400) and Piper then replied, "Wow."
Mike then replied, "I'm guessing most of these cards are Tuners, Synchros and effect monsters."
Father nodded and replied, "Correct, young man. They are no Xyz or Link monsters for the group right now. I use my Synchro's effect to banish 1 zombie to banish your Xyz."
He took his Shutendoji and banished it and then the Xyz vanished into dust as well and then Nate glowed (Nate LP: 5350 - 4850).
"Now I attack your Gearfried."
The creature shot its tentacles and wrapped around the knight and with one hard squeeze, the knight shattered, pieces of it's broken armor fell to the ground and each turned to dust as they hit the ground (Nate LP: 4850 - 4250).
"Your turn now."
Nate drew a card and replied, "I'll set a monster and a card facedown and that'll end my turn now."
Father drew a card and replied, "I use the effect of my Oboroguruma that is in my graveyard. I can banish another zombie to bring it back and I choose my Mezuki."
As the horse-headed demon appeared and faded away, a more disturbing and scary-looking monster appeared. It looked a large oxcart with a demonic-like face on the front of it (ATK: 1,500) and Piper sighed and replied, "That's a zombie?"
Mike nodded and replied, "With the rest of them being zombies, I guess so. The Yokai monsters should of been Fiends instead of zombies, but what can you do?"
"Since I Special Summoned it with its effect, It's attack and defense become 2300."
insane laughter was heard from the cart (ATK: 1,500 - 2,300).
"Now I'm equipping it with Soul Kanabō."
A large wooden club appeared on the top of it (ATK: 2,300 - 2,700).
"Now, it gains 400 attacks and a piercing ability. Attack his facedown monster."
The eyes glowed as two beams of evil dark light shot from the eyes and a Obnoxius Celtic Guardian appeared on the card (DEF: 1,200) and the the Warrior blocked the beams with his sword (Nate LP: 4250 - 2750).
"Clever save. Your turn now."
Nate drew a card and replied, "I summon my War Survivor."
As he sat the card down, the aged warrior appeared (ATK: 1,400) and he played another card and Mystical Space Typhoon appeared and the kanabo was blown into splinters (ATK: 2,700 - 2,300).
"I use my two Warriors to Xyz Summon my Zubaba General."
The two Warriors glowed as they turned into orbs and then they flew into the sky and then the mighty general appeared (ATK: 2,000).
"I remove 1 Xyz Material monster to equip him with my Wastelander Raider."
As he discarded the material monster, another card flew into the sword (ATK: 2,000 - 3,900).
"Now, destroy his Wagon."
The mighty Warrior rushed and brought his sword, cutting the haunted oxwagon in twain. Low moaning was heard before both halves shattered into pixels (Father LP: 4250 - 2650).
"Your turn now, son."
Father drew a card and replied, "I play Fiend's Sanctuary."
The beady token appeared.
"I tribute both of my monsters to summon my Red Ogre."
As the token and Synchro shattered to bits, a large red ogre appeared (ATK: 2,800) and Mike groaned and replied, "Tihs could be it for him, Piper. He has a return to hand kind of ability."
Father discarded a 2nd Crow Tengu and the Zubaba General began to to vanish and Nate quickly replied, "I activate my facedown Effect Wave."
The trap appeared.
"Now, All effects are negated."
The zombie glowed and so did the Xyz (ATK: 3,900 - 2,000).
"So be it. I attack your General."
He rushed in and slammed his club into him and he groaned and then exploded into shards (Nate LP: 2750 - 1950).
Nate drew a card and replied, "Now to summon my best card. I banish 3 different named Wastelander monsters who's levels equal 10 in order to summon my best Wastelander monster."
As he took his Ace, Field Soldier and Crusader and banished them, a new Wastelander appeared and both Piper and Mike gasped in shock. It was Nate wearing the blue vault suit and he held onto a rifle for a weapon (ATK: 4,000).
"This is the Wastelander Sole Survivor."
Mike then replied, "Damn, what a cool card."
Piper then replied, "It's Nate..in monster form."
"When he's Summoned, I can use one of three effects and the first to weak your Red Ogre."
The zombiw began to groan in pain (ATK: 2,800 - 800).
"Time to finish you off. Attack his Red Ogre and finish this duel."
He aimed his rifle and fired a a blast of bullets shot out and slammed into the huge zombie and he groaned and exploded into a shower of red dust (Father LP: 2650 - 0) and everyone was quiet as can be as the final blow was delivered.

- Select 1 monster your opponent controls; it loses 2000 ATK & DEF and it's effect is negated while it remains on the field.
- Destroy all Spell and Trap Cards your opponent controls (Cards cannot be activated in response to this card's effect.
- Draw 3 cards and then banish the top 3 cards of your deck facedown.
