Failed

Molly looked at the parchment and felt tears welling up in her eyes. She had never failed a test before, and this was the O.W.L. practice exam! What if she failed the real one too? Then she wouldn't be able to take Charms at the N.E.W.T. level and then she would never be a Healer! What would she do? Molly started hyperventilating as she felt all her hopes and dreams crashing down around her ears.

"Molly? What's wrong?"

Arthur had appeared by her side, his hand hovering by her shoulder. When she looked up at him with glassy eyes, she could see concern twisting his features.

"I failed my Charms exam," she whispered, the words sounding even worse out loud.

"Oh," he replied, his eyebrows furrowing over his glasses. "Well that's alright, it's only a practice exam, not the real thing."

"It still counts towards our grade though!" she protested. "And what if I fail the real one? This test was supposed to be indicative of how we'd do on the O.W.L. if we took it today."

"Well then it's a good thing that you're not taking it today," Arthur said, a quick grin flitting across his lips before disappearing again. "Besides, you've been dealing with a lot, what with your mum being sick and all. It's understandable if you haven't been entirely focused on schoolwork."

Arthur looked away down the hall, one hand coming up to adjust his glasses nervously.

"I… I could always help you study if you want?" he offered, careful to look anywhere but directly at her.

"You would do that?" she asked, a little bit surprised by his offer. They had been friendly since their first year at Hogwarts, but never particularly close.

"Of course I would! I would do anything for you," Arthur answered, the second part so quiet that Molly thought she might have imagined it if it weren't for the blush spreading across his freckled cheeks.

Her heart squeezed tightly and warmth flooded her at the sweet words. Standing on her tip-toes, Molly pressed a quick kiss to his cheek, an adorable smile gracing his features at the action.

"Thank you."
