Alex's P.O.V

~The Next Day~

I walked into Stefan's room to see Rebekah trying to zip up her dress. "Want help?" I asked her. She looked at me through the mirror, and I smiled at her. I walked up behind her and zipped up the rest of her dress.

"Embarrassing truth? This is my first high school dance." Rebekah said.

"Really?" I asked. "I thought you would have gone to a million of these."

"I never really had time for high school before. Nik and I were always running from Mikael." Rebekah turned around. "Anyway - I didn't want to leave anything to chance. Have you heard any more from him?" She asked me.

"No, but I'm sure that when he does return he'll do it with flair," I told her.

"And you guys are all set with your plan?" She asked me.

"Yes." I was about to tell her what it was so that she wouldn't be in the dark, but she stopped me.

"Don't tell me." She said quickly. "I don't want to know, I just - I want to go to the dance and leave the rest to Mikael." I nodded at her, and she turned around to look at herself in the mirror.

"I know it must be hard to betray your brother like that. I don't think I could ever do that if we're Damon or Stefan." I said to her. "So thank you for helping us get Klaus back into town."

"Just be careful, Alex," Rebekah told me. "You're the bait. I've been running for a thousand years for a reason. Keep in mind that Mikael doesn't care if you come out alive or not. Mikael is not a good person, and he definitely can't be trusted. No one in my family can." I was going to say something, but I remand quiet. It must be hard not being able to trust your own family. I looked back at Rebekah, and she had tears in her eyes.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"I've spent my whole life loving and hating my brother with equal measure. I never thought that I'd be the one to help drive a stake through his heart." I looked at her with sympathy. "No tears -" She laughed sadly. "I don't want to ruin my makeup. How do I look?" She asked me.

"You look amazing!" I told her and pulled Elena's locket out of my pocket. "But you're missing one thing." Rebekah saw what I had in my hand.

"My mother's necklace," Rebekah said, and I smiled. I walked up and helped her put it on.

"I saw it in the house and knew that you should have it back," I told her and held onto my locket. "Cause if I ever lost this I would want someone to return it to me." Rebekah smiled at me.

"Thank you." She said, and we smiled at each other.

~Later at Night at the Lockwood Mansion~

I walked in with Stefan and looked around the Lockwood Mansion. I was wearing a grey dress and constantly looking around in case Klaus walked up behind me. "So the school got burned down and flooded, and now the party's here?" I asked Stefan.

"That's what Caroline said," Stefan answered.

He gave me an emotionless smile before leading me into the Lockwood Mansion. Millions of teenagers dancing and drinking soon surrounded us. Stefan spotted Elena talking to Caroline and abandoned me in the middle of the room. I walked out to the back of the mansion to see a rock band playing and an ocean of teenagers dancing, screaming and jumping to the music playing. I sighed and decided to stay where I did not want to be surrounded by drunk teenagers.

"What do you think?" I jumped a bit when I heard someone's voice behind me.

I turned around to see Klaus looking at me with a smile. The hybrid was wearing a black and white suit. He looked me up and down, and I felt the heat rise to my face. Wait no...you can't have feelings for him. He seemed to notice my reaction and his smile turned into a smug smirk.

"You look exquisite," Klaus said.

"Thank you," I said more quietly than I had wished.

"Do you care to dance?" Klaus asked as he walked closer to me. He held his hands behind his back.

"Sadly, I'll have to pass," I said to him. "I don't feel like being around drunk teenagers right now." Klaus was a few inches away from me and about to say something before a voice behind him spoke.

"Quite the Homecoming," Stefan said. Klaus turned, and I saw my little brother standing behind him. How long has he been here?

"I've been planning my father's funeral for a thousand years. Granted, in no version of it were any of these people invited, but you get the idea." Klaus said to him.

"So, what now? Stop running?" Stefan asked him.

"Hm- now I reunite my family," Klaus said.

"You mean the people you cart around in caskets?" I asked him, and he turned to me.

"None of that matters anymore. Mikael is gone. Bygones will be bygones." He sees Rebekah talking to the Homecoming Queen, Cara. "Seems the Homecoming Queen won't be alive for much longer now that my sister has found her," Klaus commented.

"Now, would you like me to take you to your father?" Stefan asked him.

"Well, it wouldn't be a party without the guest of honor, would it? Bring him to me." Klaus said.

"All right. Perhaps there's something in it for me...? My freedom from your compulsion?" Stefan offered.

"Oh, you want your freedom. Well, once Mikael is dead and his weapon destroyed, you'll have your freedom. It'll be my pleasure to give it back." Klaus said, and Stefan nodded then walked away from Klaus and me. No, don't leave me with him.

"And then there were two," Klaus said. "So who was following you?"

"What?" I asked Klaus, completely taken back by the question.

"The day you called me. You told me to stop sending babysitters after you when I didn't." Klaus explained.

"Oh, it was nothing." I had completely forgotten about that.

"Doesn't seem like nothing," Klaus said.

"Well, it was," I said to him and looked around. A silence fell between us, and he didn't seem to be bothered by it. "Why are you still here?"

"Because I enjoy your presence," Klaus said and watched me curiously. "Why are you so quiet? This isn't like you at all."

"I'm not quiet. I just have nothing to talk about," I answered.

"No, you're afraid of something," Klaus stated

"I'm afraid-"

"Do not lie to me, little wolf," Klaus said, cutting me off, and brushed his hand on my cheek, tucking a piece of hair behind my ear. "You're afraid."

"I'm fine," I said and stepped away from him. "Excuse me, but I need to find Damon."

With that, I walked back into the mansion and looked around for anyone I knew. I walked back outside, actually looking for Damon now when a hand was wrapped around my mouth and sped me to the front door. I struggled and looked up to see one of Klaus's hybrids. Mikael walked in front of me and gave me a stern look.

"Be quiet, girl, and play along. Or you might not come out of this alive." Mikael said, and I heard footsteps walk towards us. "It's showtime." Mikeal walked to the front of the house, where the doors were wide open. The hybrid held me in place, and I realized Mikael had compelled him. "Hello, Niklaus, " Mikael said. I couldn't see Klaus, but I could imagine the fear he felt.

"Hello, Mikael. Why don't you come in? Oh, that's right. I forgot you can't." Klaus said.

"Or you can come outside if you want, " Mikael said as if there was no tension between the two.

"Or I could watch my hybrids tear you limb from limb," Klaus said. I watched as a group of Klaus's hybrids showed up in the front yard behind Mikael.

"They can't kill me," Mikael told him, quietly.

"True. But it'll make a hell of a party game. All I have to do is rub these two fingers together, and they'll pounce." Klaus said.

"The big bad wolf. You haven't changed. Still hiding behind your playthings like a coward." Mikael spat. "You only forget. They may be sired by you, but they are still part vampire. And they can be compelled by me." Mikael said, and the hybrid threw me into Mikael's arms. "Come out and face me, Niklaus." Mikael held a steak to my heart. "Or she dies." Klaus looked at me in Mikael's arms with fear. He hoped Mikael wouldn't notice his false bravado like I did.

"Go ahead." I froze. What? "Kill her," Klaus said. I started to struggle against Mikael, knowing he didn't give a damn about my life. Knowing he would end it in a heartbeat if it hurt Klaus in any way.

"No, Klaus, " I begged as the fear for my well being, began to grow. But Klaus didn't look at me; he just kept his eyes on his father. "He'll do it. He'll kill me." I spotted Damon and Caroline behind Klaus with wolfsbane grenades in their hands. Please, let this work.

"You must truly be heartless." Mikael taunted him. "This is a woman you've been obsessed with since the 1920's and you're willing to let her die instead of facing me!" I closed my eyes as Mikael yelled. "If she dies, no one on this earth will ever love you."

' No one could ever love a mistake like you, ' I heard my father's voice say in my head.

"I don't need her." Klaus said, but it was drowned out by a voice telling me ' You mean nothing. ' "I just need to be rid of you. " ' I will finally be rid of you .'

"To what end, Niklaus?" Mikael asked. "So you can live forever, with no one at your side?" Mikael raised his voice. "Nobody cares about you other than her, boy!" ' No one will notice you are gone and my sons will soon forget they ever had a sister. ' "What do you have other than those whose loyalty you forced?" Mikael asked him. "No one." He answered and then lowered his voice. "No one."

"I'm calling your bluff, father." Please don't. The tears slowly started to form in his eyes, and he seemed afraid - afraid I would die. Afraid of his father. He looked as if he didn't want to let me go and I could tell he was fighting himself on running forward and pushing Mikael away from me. "Kill her," Klaus said.

"Come outside and face me, you little coward. And I won't have to." Mikael challenged as a tear fell down Klaus' face, and his body shook with rage.

"My whole life you've underestimated me. If you kill her, you lose your leverage. So go ahead. Go on. Kill her." Klaus said his voice was getting louder and louder. "Come on, old man. Kill her." I shook my head violently. "Kill her!" Klaus screamed, and Mikael chuckled.

"Your impulse, Niklaus," Mikael said calmly. "It has and will forever be the one thing that keeps you from truly being great." Mikael then plugged the stake into my chest, missing my heart by a couple of inches, and dropped my body to the floor as I landed on my back.

My world was black, there was a pain in my chest, or maybe it was in my head - I wasn't sure. I opened my eyes and looked at my chest to see the stake still there. I turned my head and saw Mikael's burning body, with the white oak stake in his chest. I saw Klaus say something to Stefan and then watched as my little brother sped away. I coughed and saw Klaus sped over to me.

"Kl-Klaus," I coughed, and he grabbed the stake, pulling it out of my chest. He threw it on the other side of the porch.

"You're ok, love." He said as he brought me to his chest, helping me sit up. "You're ok." He placed his head on top of mine.

We stayed like that until I looked at Damon, who seemed relieved that I was ok and angry that I would let Klaus hold me in such a way. Soon, I pushed myself away from Klaus as I stood up. He stood up with me, and I turned to see Mikael dead, burnt corpse. I looked at Damon again and then glanced at Klaus. The events started to replay in my mind, and I remember Klaus saying he didn't need me, telling Mikael to kill me… I began to laugh slightly, and I saw the confusion on their faces. I wiped underneath my eyes to feel little-wet drops. I laughed louder, though my laughter was full of fear.

"Alex..." Klaus went to place a hand on my shoulder, and I shrugged it off as I turned to him. I looked at his face. I missed him, there was no denying that, but now there was also this sense of betrayal in my gut. And the betrayal soon felt like anger as my laughter turned into sarcasm. I turned to Damon with rage in my eyes and my voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Was this your plan all along?!" I asked him. "To put my life in the line of danger to have an advantage over Klaus! All to protect precious Elena's life!" I could tell by the way my brother looked at me, that he was trying to come up with an answer, but had nothing. I felt Klaus's hand on my shoulder again, and I pushed it off of me.

"And you!" I yelled as I turned to him. "You're no better. 'Go ahead and kill her,' 'I don't need her,' 'She means nothing." But if I mean nothing to you then why do you keep saying that you want me by your side." I paused for a moment pretending to think. "Oh, that's right! Because to you, I'm nothing but a whore who loves every bit of attention you give me. Something you can throw away when your family issues come into the light because if anything was proven today, it's that my family issues are nothing compared to yours ."

Both men stood silent. Klaus looked at me both hurt by my words and angry that I brought up previous fights. Damon, well he just looked like he was still looking for an answer to prove that everything I told him was wrong. But both of them played a part in me almost dying, and both of them betrayed me for letting Mikeal go through with it. I let out a scoff and sped away.
