10:14 am. (14 minutes since game commencement.)
"The hell happened to you?" Meredith says.
Ruth glares at her, her eye swollen shut from when Dio hit her with a water bottle. Already it's begun to bruise, deep purple hue taking up half her face. "Shut it!" Ruth hisses, "When I find that overweight porker I'm going to rip his head off with my bare hands!"
"We also need to find out who killed Ringo," Silver says.
"It's not like we can find who did it now," Sal replies, "we should just drop it."
"Of course, the person who announced that they are against killing would say that," Ruth says, "why are you even one of us?"
"He's still a career," Meredith says.
"And we need the numbers," Silver adds.
"I bet it was the girl from 10," Halle says, "she probably is the only one of the tributes who is strong enough to kill Ringo."
"Anyone know which direction she went?" Silver asks.
"That way," Halle answers, pointing towards a tunnel off to where the water falls from one of the holes in the roof.
"We should make inventory of our supplies then head off," Ruth says.
10:29 am.
Jacob pants as he squirms through the increasingly narrowing passages of the cave. Digging into the hard rock and grunting as he drags his body, feeling the rocks scrape and bruise his body. Every few seconds, he stops, listening. The cave pitch black and he left the bloodbath without a flashlight.
There is no noise. As quiet as the launch rooms were. Not even a gust of wind to help him determine if he is moving towards another cavern with light.
Jacob pants as he yanks himself forward again, not being able to see, feeling the ground beneath him suddenly vanish he falls. He screams as he grabs the walls but to no avail.
SPLASH!
Jacob feels the freezing cold water around him. He claws at the water, kicks for the surface at least he thinks it is the surface, everything is dark. So dark and so quiet. Luckily, he feels his face breach the water and he take in a deep breathe.
It takes a while to find the edge of the water where Jacob can pull himself up but eventually, he does. He sits on the damp rocks, catching his breathe.
Well, Jacob thinks, at least I found water.
11:43 am.
Dio shines his flashlight. Each tunnel seems to lead to more, then those tunnels to more. Already he doesn't know how to get back to the cornucopia.
What time is it? Dio tries to slow his breathing. Has a day gone by? No the deaths haven't been announced.
Something is for sure…Something is in the arena with him. He can hear it every few minutes…Or hours…Or seconds. The sound of the rocks shifting. Something moving. But every time Dio shines his light all he sees is the rocks. The constant pale grey and brown surface.
"Viscosity?" Dio calls out. His voice echoing through the many passages. The first while he was so afraid to make a sound with how eerily silent the arena is, but the noise bounces off the walls. Someone could be talking right next to him and it'd be near impossible to narrow down where it's coming from.
"Viscosity, where are you?" Dio says.
No answer.
Just shifting. Something moving. Dio shines his light but sees nothing.
12:21 pm.
Nevon positions himself in a dent within the walls of the cave. Large enough to lay comfortably in and hide if necessary but not big enough to be out of sight.
He digs through the first aid kit that he was lucky enough to have in his bag, finding more gauze and wrapping his thigh. No matter how long he seems to apply pressure or how many pads and gauze he places on, it never seems to stop. The thick red liquid oozing down his leg and dripping along the rocky surface.
All he has to do is stay alive long enough after the deaths of the day are announced. That's when sponsors can begin to send gifts. He might not have a line up of Capitol citizens waiting to give their money for him but there has to be enough for a proper suture kit or maybe some fancy Capitol ointment that would stop the bleeding.
Nevon opens his bottle of water and chugs half the contents. It's a dangerous move but as he was moving through the cave, he could hear water and feel the dampness on the rocks, it shouldn't be too hard to locate water. After, he finishes a bar. If he wanted to survive another few hours, he'd have to get his blood sugar up.
He removes the belt from his waist and wraps it around his upper thigh. Giving himself a countdown before he yanks on the belt.
Instantly, pain shoots up his body and he bite down to stop himself from screaming. He pulls the belt tighter and tighter until he can't pull on it anymore. He loops the belt once more around his thigh and takes a deep breathe.
That earned himself another protein bar. Nevon begins to eat when he hears something. Nevon snatches his flashlight with one hand, grabs the backpack with the other, and gets ready to sprint when he sees it.
The girl from District 8.
She doesn't move. She only stares at him.
There is no way Nevon will be able to outrun her with his leg torn open. He might get a few meters, who knows, in the maze of tunnels that might be enough to lose her. But what if its not? He decides his best bet is to fight. She holds no weapons and he has his spear…His spear…
Nevon's eyes the spear that lays just outside of the small hole, He forgot to bring the spear inside with him. Then again, he never intended to stay here too long, he planned to wrap up his leg and get back to moving. A short stop, if his leg had just stopped bleeding.
Nevon slowly inches his hand closer and closer and—
"AAAA!" Calico screams as she charges at Nevon.
Nevon lunges forward, grabbing the spear.
Calico is too close. She has a rock in her hands. A rock she smashes into Nevon's kneecap. There is the audible sound of bone cracking followed by Nevon's screams.
Calico slams the rock into Nevon's head, sending it flying back.
"AAA!" Calico screams as she hits Nevon in the chest with the rock.
CRK!
She hits him in the head, sending blood shooting out of his nose and mouth.
BOOM!
Calico grabs the bag from Nevon's hand, the flashlight, and the spear before she walks off.
3:45 pm.
"Omg, ew!" Leaf squeals as she sees a large beetle crawl up the walls, vanishing into a small crevasse. "This place is disgusting. Why couldn't it have been a something simple like woods or a field?"
Leaf looks around. She stands in a small oval area that branches off into two tunnels. She notices water running down one side of the wall, slipping between the cracks in the ground.
"Well, guess this place is as good as any," she mumbles before slumping down to open her bag.
She finds it relatively bare of items. A flashlight with four battery packs, glow sticks, rope, a water bottle, some jerkey and crackers, and an apple.
"Ugh, that's it!?" Leaf tosses the bag on the ground.
I better have some generous sponsors.
4:56 pm.
Apollo feels the cool walls of the tunnel, his eyes wide but unable to see a single thing. He tried to hold his hands in front of his face but all there was was darkness. Silent, eerie, darkness.
Maybe I shouldn't have fled, Apollo thinks as he feels his way through, Maybe I should've just gone in for a light or two and then ran for it.
He continued to move forward when his foot catches on a rock. Apollo stumbles forward, reaching his hands out to grab something but there is nothing to help. He crashes against the ground.
"Shit!" Apollo mutters.
"Hello?" A female voice asks from the dark.
Apollo instantly recoils, shuffling backwards until he feels his back press into the wall. He racks his brain to match a face to the voice but already the pitch and tone of it is vanishing from his memory.
"Apollo?" The voice says again.
Apollo thinks. Young…Innocent…"Genovia!?"
"Apollo!" Genovia says from the dark.
"Genovia…I thought you were dead!" Apollo can already feel the tears welling in his eyes, "I heard you scream at the cornucopia."
"I got out," Genovia says.
"I got out too!" Wade says from the dark, "Casida is with us too!"
"We were trying to find you and Osiris…Have you seen him?" Genovia asks.
"No…I can't see anything. I could've walked right by him and not know it," Apollo answers.
"We have lights," Wade says.
"Come towards us, you will see!" Genovia says.
Apollo shifts for a moment, stretching his hand out in front of him as he makes his way forward. "You're still here?" Apollo shouts.
"We are…" Genovia answers.
Apollo continues to move forward…Is he seeing things or can he actually see his fingers. Yes! There his fingers, stretched out. Light! Apollo can see the light! He moves faster. "Genovia?" He can't help but smile at the sight of the light. "I'm so happy to find you!"
"AAAA!"
BOOM!
Instead of the faces in the sky, a robotic female voice echoes through the cave, announcing those who have died.
Ringo Gavana, District 2 male.
Genovia Parker, District 6 female.
Apollo Shuttle, District 6 male.
Wade Farbreeze, District 8 male.
Chryss Dust, District 9 male.
Filbert Fowler, District 11 male.
Casida Dalie Munroe, District 12 female.
Nevon Dystra, District 12 male.
So, most of you submitted tributes whose weaknesses are swimming and climbing and all I can say is, this was not the arena for that.
So a total of 8 tributes gone after the first day.
