After the Leg - 6
It was already nighttime. The camera showed the twinkling purple night skies before it panned down to see a rest stop beside a highway. By the way the camera was being positioned, it was actually someone's point of view. The cameraman opened the rest stop's door.
As the cameraman was walking inside the rest stop, they looked all around. It was mostly dim; only a few lights were working. The floors were mostly unsanitary, and some of the foam ceiling tiles were falling on it. Most of the fast-food joints and shops were closed down, with one exception being a run-down pizzeria.
The cameraman walked towards the pizzeria, before shaking something. Just then, what looked like a molotov cocktail was thrown into one of the pizzeria's ovens, before the whole place started catching on fire, and the cameraman started running out.
As it turns out, it was actually a movie, as the camera zoomed out to reveal the television in a hotel lobby. Watching the movie were the C-List Celebrities, the Unlikely Best Friends, the Pizza Sisters, and the Jocks.
"Geez…" Tyler winced, "Who knew that 'Roadside Killer' was that creepy!"
"True…" said Courtney, "The first time I saw it, I almost had a heart attack!"
"I was, like, in it!" Shannon told the group, "I was in the part where the killer threw a molotov in the RV!"
"We just saw that part, Shannon." Tracy reminded her, "And that girl did not look anything like you! That girl had red hair and had piercings on her nose!"
"Well actually, Trace…" Lorraine told her, "Shannon went through a phase when she was eighteen years old."
"You were eighteen when this thing was filmed?" Courtney asked with an eyebrow raised.
Shannon nodded, "And… do you guys promise not to tell this to anyone?"
"What?" asked Gwen.
"Do you really promise not to tell anyone this… secret?" Shannon asked the group with a gulp.
The group looked at each other confused, as they looked at the blonde C-Lister.
"We promise." said Oscar.
"Do you, like, really really promise?"
"Yes." said Oscar, "What is it?"
Shannon let out a sigh, "I… well," she felt her long blonde hair, "This isn't my natural hair color. It's still red."
The group looked at each other, confused. It didn't sound like a secret she felt embarrassed to tell them.
But Gwen let out a chuckle, "If you're telling us this secret, why are there cameras surrounding us?" She pointed to the 'fourth wall'.
Shannon looked over to see the 'fourth wall'. Her cheeks started rosing red, and she stood up from the couch the group sat on. "I'm, like, outta here!" she said in a panic, before storming off, with Narissa following her.
"That was weird…" said Oscar, "That didn't sound like a secret someone would feel embarrassed to talk about, right?"
Suddenly, Don came bombarding. He had a phone up on his ear, and he wore an angry expression on his face.
"Alright, alright!" he grumbled on the phone, "I'll watch it right now…"
As Don hung up on the caller on the other line, he picked up the TV remote and changed the channel, much to everyone's dismay.
"Dude!" Tyler complained, "We were watching that!"
"Yeah, how are we gonna know how the movie ends?" complained Lorraine.
Don leered to the group, "It ends with a police standoff and they kill the killer." he told them, like it was a sweep underneath the rug, "Sorry, but someone wants me to know what my opinion is on their new game show."
Tracy, disregarding that Don had spoiled the ending, gave him a look of confusion, "What new game show? Who is it?" she asked him.
Don groaned, before turning to Tyler, Gwen, and Courtney, "Does the name Chris McLean ring a bell?" When the Total Drama alumni nodded, he continued, "He keeps pressuring me to watch his new game show called 'Chris McLean's Extremely Totally Awesome Game of Pain'."
"Why would Chris make you do that?" asked Gwen, still remembering all the times Chris tried to make her and her friends' lives miserable on Total Drama.
"He's jealous because 'Total Drama got cancelled, and that I'm winning all the Gemmies instead of him'…" Don said in a voice that would mock Chris. "Found it…" He set the TV remote as it presented 'Chris McLean's Extremely Totally Awesome Game of Pain'.
On the TV, it had Chris McLean, who was dressed in a sparkling purple suit with a white shirt underneath, equally sparkling purple pants, and an equally sparkling purple top hat with a gold rim. He stood in front of seven people aged from their 4th grade years to early college years.
"Alright, everyone!" he said on the television, "Now all the contestants have to do in order to win the group trip to Quebec City, which comes with a five-star resort stay," There was a picture of a grand hotel that looked like a giant church/castle, before it cuts to a picture of a brown marble in front of a blue exposition screen, "is to find all the brown marbles," The television camera shows a mountainous pile of peanuts, "In this here peanut pile!"
One of the contestants on that show, a red-haired boy with a stubble on the bottom of his face, wearing a red hoodie with a blue line on the waist, denim jeans, and red shoes with caramel soles, raised his hand, "Yeah, Chris, I'm allergic to peanuts…"
"Too bad, Earl!" Chris yelled, before shoving a bag of peanuts onto the boy's podium, causing him to scream and run off, much to the dismay of the other six contestants.
"Oh, looks like he ran off!" Chris nonchalantly said, "So then I guess nobody's gonna get the trip to Quebec at all then!" He let out a laugh, as the other seven contestants started yelling at the host in anger. The studio audience started cheering as Chris started dancing to disco music. There were signs that pointed to the contestants saying, 'SORE LOSERS'.
Everyone seeing the show looked on in shock and disgust, "Man…" Courtney said with concern, "Ever since Total Drama got cancelled for the Ridonculous Race, he's been like that?"
"Unfortunately…" said Don, "He tried to do a lot of gigs for hosting, but they've gone to the same place they always went; the toilet…" Without another word, he and the rest of the group continued watching Chris' game show, even if they were not going to enjoy it…
Outside of the hotel all the teams were staying at, teams had done other activities out of leisure. The camera zoomed in on a bowling alley with a bowling pin/bowling ball sign overlooking the street.
Inside, there were the Student & Counselor, the Town Heroes, and the Brothers. They were taking turns playing bowling. Jose had just thrown his ball down one of the lanes and scored a…
STRIKE!
"Alright!" Jose exclaimed in victory, "That's another strike on the board!" He turned to Giulietta with a flirting smile on his face, "How d'you like that?"
Giulietta giggled, "I felt… you did a great job."
Alejandro paused the bowling round, before turning to the other teams. "I say, mi amigos…" he told them, "I think I need another drink. I'm feeling a little dry…"
"Me too." said Jose, "Me and my lesser brother will be right back. Try not to keep going without us!" He and Alejandro, who glared at his older brother, walked up and went to the bar, leaving the two other teams.
Remaining at their lane, Lewis looked over to Luke, "Y'know, Luke, I didn't know you felt some way…" he told him.
"What?" asked Luke, "You mean, like I had a sister who's in an abusive relationship with her fiance?" Lewis nodded, then Luke continued, "Yeah… I didn't want to talk about it much, mainly because I don't like getting sympathy cards from everyone… I just find it to be… y'know, uncomfortable."
"Well, yes, but Luke," Harvey told him, "You've got to understand that even when we're teams competing against each other to get to the finish line, we're here to give our support to each other, no matter what."
"And part of being in a competition is to feel motivated!" said Lewis, "Moral support is always what motivates people to partake in stuff, like this race."
Luke nodded, "I understand, but I just don't like talking about my stuff at home. It's stuff like that I feel uncomfortable talking about…"
"I understand, kid…" said Lewis, he and Harvey nodding.
"But, like with what Terrence was going through, though, I can't help but think if they might be like my sister and her fiance…" said Luke, "I just don't want people to have to deal with all the toxicness… I've never been in a relationship, and I don't think I plan on having one any time soon… 'cause I don't know how the girl or guy I'll have will act…"
Giulietta and Lewis put arms around the teen, "Understandable, kid…" said Lewis, "You take your time…"
Meanwhile, Alejandro and Jose were sitting at the bar, with Jose charming the waitress, who was already swooning over the hills…
"And one more lemon cola to that…" said Jose, "I'm in a… heated moment…"
"You're so adorable…" said the waitress, "They'll be out in a jiffy… All on me!" She turned around and went to make their drinks.
"So, Jose…" said Alejandro, "The plan…"
"Yes, yes, what is it?" asked Jose.
Alejandro let out a groan, "You know! We do something with Oscar so that he and Tyler can fall out, then we leave the Maple Scouts to the Bullies. We've gone over this earlier twice! I'm talking about when should we execute?"
"On my command, Al…" Jose said, his arms, "But I might save it for some other time… Maybe tomorrow… Maybe the day after… But when the time comes, you'll get the signal…"
Alejandro gave his brother a confused look, before he started remembering all the times he did back in Total Drama: World Tour, which gave him hope that he'll recognize and understand whatever signal Jose gives…
The camera cuts to a nearby bridge overlooking a freeway. The Jocks had walked across to do something else. They didn't want to watch Chris McLean's game show anymore, so they wanted to do something on their own time.
"Red car…" said Tyler, pointing out.
"Brown car…" said Oscar, pointing out.
The Young Farmers were walking by with a bag of hamburgers in their hands, when they noticed what they were doing.
"Gray car…" said Tyler.
"Green car…" said Oscar.
"Oooh, pink car!" said Tyler.
"Aha, minibus…" said Oscar.
"What are you doing?!" an annoyed Scott queried.
Tyler and Oscar turned to see the duo. "Oh, hey!" said Oscar, "This is just a random game me and Tyler are playing called, 'Spot the Car'! We just point out whatever cars we see, and… that's it."
"That's a lame game…" said Scott, shaking his head.
"No way, man!" argued Tyler, "It's just a way for us to pass time. I mean, we'd like to do jumping jacks or something, but... we've decided to save the energy for tomorrow." Tyler did a jumping jack, only for his left leg to hit the guardrail, causing Tyler to fall and nurse the injured leg, whimpering as he did so.
"Hey, a porsche!" Rodney pointed out.
Scott turned around, confused with his partner, "How the heck did you recognize that it was a porsche?!"
Rodney pointed out, where the camera showed a black retro porsche on the side of the road. A man was throwing a hissy fit. Through the revving cars making the dialogue he's making barely audible, it sounded like he was angry over his car not starting, before he started kicking his car. Everyone, even Tyler, who picked himself up, was watching the scene.
"Lucky guess…" said Rodney, "I've seen a porsche pass by me a few times a year, and I've noticed it looked identical…"
"Huh…" said Scott.
"But why is he angry?" Rodney questioned.
The driver was throwing himself on the car, yelling that it was a piece of useless junk.
"Doesn't look useless…" said Oscar, hearing his barely audible yelling.
Then the driver started yelling that he bought it off of a car dealership and that he knew better than to buy it from some 'wisecracking cheapskate'.
"Funny…" said Rodney, "Porsches aren't really cheap, at least back when they were made in the mid-1900's…"
"How do you know much about cars?" Scott asked him.
"My father used to tell me my mom was a car mechanic…" said Rodney, "Even afterwards, she still kept her mechanics book for me to remember her by…" He started to feel a little misty when he said that.
"Good to know…" said Scott, before he, along with everyone, saw the driver kicking the porsche until it tips to the side, before hitting the crash, making a…
*PFFFFFTTT*
"Aww not the whole thing!" Tyler yelled in anger.
"He just destroyed a perfectly good porsche!" agreed Rodney.
"He could've just called for roadside assistance…" said Scott, folding his arms, "I don't see why he had to tip it over…"
"It's everyone wanting to destroy stuff for insurance…" said Rodney.
"Yeah, it's gotta be like, expensive to rebuild that thing…"
"About $10 to 30,000 is what it might be…" Rodney pointed out, thinking to himself.
"I know, I-" Scott tried to say, before shaking his head, "What are we even doing here in the first place?!"
Rodney puzzled that question, before realizing something else, "Oh crap!" he said, "I gotta see where Courtney is!" He turned to his partner, "Come on! Don't want to keep her waiting!"
Scott shook his head again in frustration, before following his bigger partner, leaving the Jocks standing on the bridge.
"Huh. I didn't know Courtney was dating Rodney…" said Tyler, "Seems like an odd pair, right?" Oscar nodded with his partner.
Meanwhile, there were other teams that were lounging on the hotel's rooftop pool; the All-Star Hockey Players were pointing out the nearby hockey arena they play against Anaheim, the Punks were at the bar, the C-List Celebrities were lounging in their chairs forgetting what had happened earlier in the hotel lobby, and the Maple Scouts were showing other teams their camera and talking about their goal in the race.
"So, you two are going to try and photograph yourselves in ten different countries in order to be upgraded?" asked Elizabeth.
"Yeah." said Arnold, "But that doesn't mean we don't want to win the race! We believe there are lots to do in the race that even kids like us can do!" The younger Maple Scout placed the camera beside the bench.
"Sounds amazing!" exclaimed Olivia.
"Sounds boring…" snarked Lance.
"I don't think it's boring…" argued Seren, "It's a wicked goal, something that keeps you focused besides winning the race."
"You could try having a goal too, if you want." said Patrick. The Bullies just let out a scoff.
"If you're gonna do another picture, you better include us too!" said Sadie.
"Got it!" said Arnold, "We did one with Don, we can certainly do one with you two!"
The lifeguard went over to the teams. "Excuse me, guys." he said, "I'm afraid we're gonna close up the pool for now, so I just want to ask if you can pack up?"
"Aye, sure thing, sir!" said Patrick, before turning to the rest of the teams, "Anyways, we should get ready for tomorrow.
"Who knows who'll be the first one at the Chill Zone…" giggled Olivia, with Katherine giving away a short smile, shrugging.
"Yeah, I'm a little tired myself…" yawned Mitzy, turning to Seren, "You ready to pack it up, honey?" Seren nodded.
A minute or two later, most of the teams walked out, when Lance nudged Molly's side with his elbow, pointing the camera that the Maple Scouts had left. They had a malicious smirk on their faces.
The camera shows the camera, before Lance's hands were seen picking it up.
The next scene showed Don, the Unlikely Best Friends, and Pizza Sisters, whom they all had negative facial expressions, still watching Chris' game show.
Chris was leaning beside a short blond-haired boy with glasses wearing a red shirt, green khaki shorts, and black sandals, and a black girl with long black hair wearing a pink bedazzled shirt with denim overalls, black yoga pants, and cow leather boots.
"Now!" he said to the duo, "You two are to say the capitals of each country within one second! Starting with…" Chris presented them with a projection of the country, "Azerbaijan!"
Before they could answer, they were each hit by a mechanical boxing fist from their podiums, knocking them out.
"Too slow, little snails!" Chris laughed at them, with signs falling from the ceiling pointing out 'SNAILS', and then Chris started dancing to more disco music, all while the studio audience was cheering him on.
Suddenly, Don turned the TV off. "I've had enough of this…" he said.
Unbeknownst to them, the Bullies walked behind their couch, with Lance holding the Maple Scouts' camera.
Meanwhile, the Student & Counselor were walking with each other, having returned from the bowling alley. Luke wanted to say something to Giulietta. "Hey, Giuls?" he asked her, stopping several feet from a trash can.
"Hm?" Giulietta asked.
"I take it you have a worksheet you want me to finish?"
"Oh yes!" said Giulietta, "I actually have the questions of the overview of the first six places we've gone to; three questions for each place, to be exact. Feel free to start it if you like!"
As they were talking, the Bullies spotted the trash can.
"Sure." said Luke, "It's weird… I feel like I remember all these places… I tried not to, but…"
"Hey, I think you're starting to get the hang of learning." said Giulietta, "That's a good thing! You can start it tonight or tomorrow; your call!" She turned to the elevators, "I'll wait for you at our room, kay?" When Luke nodded, she strode off.
Luke sighed, nodding to himself that after refusing work, he would finally start to try it.
"Aww, how cute…" mocked Lance, "The slacker finally wants to find an education…"
Luke leered at the Bullies, "Watch it, man!" he fired back, "At least I want to try!"
"Well, there's always the saying, 'At first you don't succeed, GIVE UP!"' Lance laughed, with Molly laughing along with him.
Luke wanted to argue, but then he saw something in Lance's hands. "Hey, isn't that the Maple Scouts' camera?" he asked. He had recognized the camera when the Maple Scouts were showing him and Giulietta it back in Dakar.
The Bullies looked down at the camera they were holding, "Yeah, so?" asked Molly.
"What are you gonna do with it?" the student asked.
"What does it look like, dumbass?" Lance sinisterly stated, as he inched closer to the trash can.
But Luke carried on to their plan as he saw Lance moving closer, and he advanced towards the jerk jock. "Give it back!" he yelled.
Lance and Molly reacted accordingly and they blocked him from getting it back. "You ain't gonna do nothing to us, dude!" taunted Lance, "This is our time to shine, even if we have to screw with every team to get to the top!"
Molly shoved Luke to the ground as Lance tossed the camera away.
"What is wrong with you two?!" cried Luke.
"You stand in our way again," Molly stated, "You'll be seeing yourselves in a ditch!" She turned to Lance, "Let's get outta here."
"See ya later, sucka!" Lance taunted as he and Molly walked off.
A few seconds after they left, Luke stood up, glaring from what happened. But then he forgot about the camera. He turned to the trash can…
Only for a janitor to stop him, "Sorry kiddo, but if you have trash you need to toss, you're gonna have to wait til tomorrow…" He told him with a grumpy tone of voice. He grabbed the trash can and walked off with it.
"But wait!" Luke argued, "There's something in there, and I need it back!" But the janitor ignored him and continued on his way. Luke shook his head, frustrated about what was going on, and walked to the elevators.
"Arnold and Percy are gonna be so upset…" he said under his breath.
Unbeknownst to him, the camera was lying on the ground. It had barely missed the trash can when Lance threw it, and it was casually lying on the floor, exposed.
