I wanna dedicate this chapter to all my readers out there in quarantine. You guys stay safe and healthy out there.
From her vantage point overlooking the docks Blake let out a long sigh as she continued her lookout. It had been two hours since the sun went down and by then and nothing had happened. The dock workers had unloaded the last container with the Schnee logo on it and had all promptly retired for the evening. Though surprisingly the docks seemed completely deserted outside the odd night watch making his rounds.
Blake sensed before she heard Sun make his return from scouting, and as for Lukas, he'd been gone since they started their watch but he had at least promised not to miss any action.
"Did i miss the action yet?" Sun asked squatting down a few feet from her.
"Not really. They unloaded the dust an hour ago and now it's just sitting there." She said looking up at him.
Sun took a bit from one of the apples before offering the other one to Blake. "That's cool, stole you some food."
"Do you always break the law without a second thought?"
"Aren't you a wanted criminal?" He quipped. But the stare was enough to say she wasn't amused.
"Uh- sorry. So what's your history with that Lukas guy, Friend, acquaintance, lover?" He said, trying to change the subject. Blake shuddered at the insinuation.
"Oh god no. He was just someone the fang wanted to use to get into the wolf clan. As far as i know Lukas went along with it 'for the fun'. Don't let him fool you sun, Lukas is probably one of the most dangerous faunus in vale right now"
And at that moment Lukas had taken it upon himself to reintegrate with his pack mates. He came up a ladder on the side of the building and was holding a wrapped bundle over his shoulder.
"Well, speak of the devil right? Blake, I'm surprised, that's the nicest thing I've heard you say about me." He said, pulling himself up onto the roof and making his way over and sitting down between the two of them before he started unpacking the wrapped cloth. It contained eight fast food sandwiches and of course several cans of beer. Lukas scarfed down the first sandwich before cracking open a can with his teeth and downing it in one go much to Blake's disgust.
"You really think it's a good idea to be drinking at a time like this?" She said getting on her feet to look down on Lukas.
"I need a drink to go with my food, besides i fight better drunk anyways." said opening his next beer.
As if on Que the rush of air and the roar of jet engines interrupted them as over heard several bullheads came over the buildings and touched down in the middle of the docks.
"Where did those come from!?" Sun shouted to be heard over the noise. The three of them now prone and watching the developing situation.
"They were flying low, we wouldn't have heard them until they were on us." Lukas said.
The trio watched as one of the Bullheads landed and out of the cargo hold came figures whose black fatigues and white vests with red insignia marked them as White Fang.
"It's them."
"You knew didn't you?" Asked Sun
"I guess I did, I just didn't want to be right." Blake said, finally confessing her deeply held fear and suspicion.
"Let's hurry it up already!" Their attention was drawn back to the docks where Torchwick had just come out from the bullhead and was starting to yell orders at the Fang members. "We're not exactly the most inconspicuous thieves right now so if you animals would please hurry up that'd be appreciated."
"Somethings not right. The White Fang would never work with a human, especially one like that." Blake said rising to her feet and unsheathing her sword.
"Hey, what are you doing?" But no sooner had the words left his mouth then Blake was already off the side of the building. Lukas sprang to his feet and gave Sun a light smack on the back of the head before he was off after her.
"Isn't it obvious? Time to fight!"
"Get those tow cables attached and let's get out of here already." Roman said pacing around while watching the white fang go about it's work securing the dust for transport. But like always they were dragging their feet about it.
"I would like to get out of here before the sun comes up people. chop, chop please."
Suddenly there was a rush behind him and before he realized what was going on there was a blade against his throat.
"What the- oh for pete's sake."
"Don't move." Blake said putting the back edge of her sword right up to his neck.
Torchwick to his credit managed to keep his cool, his line of work wasn't for people who couldn't keep their heads. Now the White Fang had weapons trained on both of them. 'I swear if these idiots actually shoot me- I need to stall for time so i can get out of this.'
"Whoa, take it easy there little lady"
The Fang were coming in on all sides of her trying to find a good angle to not hit their boss. 'Thank god, they are smarter than they look'
In an attempt to buy some time Blake tore off her ribbon exposing her faunus ears and called out the White Fang. "Brothers of the white fang, why are you helping this scum?"
There were uncertain looks and a general hesitancy overcame the group
"Did you get the memo sweetie?" Asked Torchwick.
"What are you talking about?"
"The White Fang and I are going in on a joint business venture."
She pressed the sword tighter. "Tell me what it is, or i'll shut down your little operation."
Two more Bullheads passed over them. Finally Blake's concentration was taken away from her target, that was all Torchwick needed. He placed the end of his cane right behind him. And with Blake focused on the white fang she never saw it coming. Roman smiled before making his move.
"It's a bit more than a 'Little' operation."
The explosion echoed throughout the city. Luis and Azrael already heading to the docks stopped when they heard it.
"That came from the docks." Luis said, pointing To the rising smoke cloud in the distance.
"Looks like you were right. Let's get over there. You didn't bring your Jump-pack did you?" Asked Azrael looking over Luis
"I didn't think i'd need it." Said Luis, grimacing at his negligence.
"Lets just get moving then." And with that the two of them took off sprinting towards the docks.
Blake was ducking in and out of cover to avoid Torchwick's shots. The whining rounds exploded all around her kicking up debris. She fired off a few rounds in retaliation but then the white fang started opening fire as well and she was pinned down behind a crate.
Meanwhile Lukas and Sun were running along a line of containers and saw that Blake had put herself in a bind.
"I'll take care of the mooks, you get Mr bowler hat." Lukas said, drawing his pistol. Sun nodded jumping off to the right where Blake was now taking hit after hit from Torchwick. As Lukas neared the end of his run he picked his target, a bullhead was coming in to let off more White Fang in support of those already engaged. Lukas Thumbed the selector switch between the different modes on his gun.
'Normal'
'Charged'
'Over charged'
Lukas took aim as he ran, said a silent prayer, and lined up the target before he pulled the trigger. The pistol let out a high pitched whine and the glow went from calm blue, to bright green, to hellish red. A bright red ball of burning plasma streaked across the dock and struck the Bullhead in one of it's VTOL engines. The shot bored it's way deep in, melting anything it touched into slag. The aircraft shuddered as it fell away to the right as the pilot attempted to right the aircraft but it was to no avail and the bullhead went into the water with a loud splash.
Lukas holstered the steaming hot pistol and coming to the end of the containers leapt off and landed among the white fang; the sound of his laugh echoed off his surroundings as he charged into the fight.
The closest fang didn't have time to dodge the two swipes from Lukas' claw which left him open for a right hook to the jaw.
The next one he reached received a devastating kick to the groin which brought him to his knees, at which point Lukas punched him square in the face with an audible crunch as his fist broke his nose and he fell over with blood streaming out of his nose.
Now aware of what was happening, the others began to swarm Lukas and the fight descended into a violent brawl, which was incidentally his specialty. Lukas stomped toes, poked eyes, kicked groins, shins, and in one case someone's throat. Not to mention his electrified power claw and occasional shots from his pistol made short work of his assailants.
He caught the arm of one trying to strike him with a blade and in turn had his arm broken. He left the poor sod cradling his arm and screaming in pain.
Walking over the squirming man Lukas approached another group that had held back. He paused noticing their odd looks before he looked down to see his semblance was activated and was creating (at least to his eyes) a faint shimmering effect around his body, though he had been told that his body looks distorted and out of place, everyone always differed on what it looked like. It seemed as far as Lukas guessed that everyone saw something different, and the confusion always allowed him to take on large groups of attackers while taking minimal hits
"What exactly are you seeing right now?" He called over to the White Fang who were thoroughly confused now.
Lukas laughed. "Never mind; it doesn't matter." He then flexed his power claw gesturing to them "Now then, shall we continue?"
"He's mine!" Blake yelled as she ran past Sun and started an unrelenting attack on Roman. Blake used her Semblance to bounce off and around roman but surprisingly he was able to block almost everyone of her attacks.
'I won't lose. Not to scum like him.'
Without thinking Blake poured her anger and hatred into her blows.
'Damn them, Damn them all. They've finally sold out to the people we were fighting.'
But in her unthinking anger her blows became timed and predictable and with a series of swift strikes Torchwick sent her reeling back into Sun who was coming in to try and help. They both fell over each other and a victorious Torchwick stood over them to finish them.
Lukas was currently holding a fang member under his armpit. He was trying in vain to punch him but it was an awkward position and there was no force in them. Lukas looked over and he seeing the situation he gritted his teeth and cursed.
"Son of a- do i have to do everything myself?"
Lukas did a quick look, saw a fast solution and drew his recharged plasma pistol, sighted on a suspended Dust container. He took a split second to ask himself if the container was exactly over them, but he decided it didn't matter.
'If it is, they'll probably move.'
To his shock the container came down right between them.
"Damn." He said before he rendered his captive unconscious and moved off to see if he could help them.
Lukas leapt at Torchwick with his power claw going right for his chest. But he managed to beat aside the attack and struck Lukas across the face with his cane. Lukas took a step back and spat out a glob of bloody saliva before grinning.
"And here I was thinking no one would land a hit tonight." He said before going to torchwick again.
This time Lukas caught his cane in between the blades of his claws and tried to give a right hook but He caught that and held his fist in his hand. Lukas tried knee stomps but that was difficult considering he was trying the same thing while also dodging his.
Out of options and with all his limbs tied up Lukas quickly fell back on his last ditch weapon, one that had saved him in many similar circumstances. It was proof against everything from Orks, to Eldar.
Lukas drew back his head and with a audible, bony SMACK! He slammed his head into torchwick's as hard as he could. They came apart both holding their aching foreheads. Aura may have healed the damage, but to Lukas and Torchwick it still hurt like a bitch.
"Oh. I'll get you for that mutt." Torchwick growled as he tried to move forward.
"Hey!" A young shrill voice called out over the docks catching both of their attention as a small girl with an impossibly big war scythe stood on top of one of the warehouses. In fact there were two girls, or was Lukas seeing four?
Torchwick righted himself and called up to them. "Oh hi red, isn't it past your bedtime?"
Another girl came up beside 'red' but they were too far away to hear. Annoyed Torchwick took aim and let off a shot before Lukas could stop him.
Ruby was blown back by the impact of the explosive round Landing on her back. A bit dazed she saw Penny near the edge of the building looking down at the whole situation. Somehow she knew what was about to happen.
"Penny, wait stop!" She said, pulling herself up.
"Don't worry ruby, I'm combat ready!"
Out of her backpack came several suspended green blades that she flung at the nearest fang members as she jumped off the building. Lukas watched as her twirling blades scythed through her opponents. And with the dazzling spectacle, and a throbbing headache Lukas almost missed Torchwick bugging out.
"Hey!" He yelled after taking off after him. But he was forced to take cover as another bullhead had come in and was doing a strafing run on the docks forcing everyone to find cover. Lukas drew his plasma pistol only to see it was still charging. He swore and returned it to the holster and looked back again and saw the aircraft had circled back around for another run.
"Where the hell are they getting these?" He asked himself trying to think of the best way to stay alive while his gun recharged.
Looking around he saw the red haired girl was now using her swords to deflect incoming rounds before she shot back out of range. And what happened next left Lukas wondering just how drunk he was because he could swear this girl then shot a laser that sliced the incoming bullhead clean in half sending it crashing.
Now that he wasn't pinned down anymore Lukas continued his pursuit. He may have had a lead on Lukas but he was quickly gaining ground on him, or at least he was until a bullhead was sent scraping across the docks right in front of him and causing an avalanche of of shipping crates that he had the rush to avoid nearly getting squished numerous times in the process but by then the damage had been done and he watched from far off as torchwick scrambled aboard a waiting aircraft before shutting the door.
Angry Lukas let off three rapid shots from his pistol before it started to overheat. two of the rounds managed to hit, but the damage was superficial.
"Damnit!" He said kicking an unconscious White Fang to vent. He turned around and saw that the red head was helping Blake and Sun up while the red hooded girl was making her way over.
"Ruby?" Was all Blake got to say before Ruby had her in a tight hug.
"Blake! Oh we were all so worried about you. Are you alright, what happened?" She said letting go of her but keeping her hands on her shoulders.
"Um- Well i-" She stammered.
"You!" They all turned to see an infuriated Lukas come over and gave Penny a sharp shove before he continued. "What the hell is your problem? You nearly killed me with that stunt, and because of you that jackass in the bowler hat got away! In the future maybe try keeping your fights in your own lane." He said before suddenly turning to Blake. "And just what are you doing running off like that, What was that stunt you pulled? You had him right there and you let him get away that easily?"
Lukas stormed off in a huff leaving them all stunned. Ruby looked at Blake confused. "Um Blake, who was that?"
Blake let out a long sigh before she sat back down on the cement block and held her head in her hands. "It's a long story Ruby."
Lukas, searching through the ruins of the docks for anything useful. He was crawling over and under containers and searched the bodies of white fang not bothering or caring to see if they were alive or not. But he still kept coming up with nothing but then he saw movement near the buildings at the edge of the dock. As he approached he saw it was a White fang trying to make a get away.
"Hey you." Lukas called as he took up a jog. The man looked at him, recognized him and took off running for his life with Lukas in hot pursuit.
Officer Flowers surveyed the scene at the docks as officers and swat teams were rounding up white fang and confiscating weapons. It was unprecedented. Dozens of white fang rounded up and arrested, the wrecks of at least four bullheads, and scuba divers were investigating the ones that fell into the harbor. The docks themselves were a complete wreck. Flowers didn't even want to guess the thousands, maybe millions of lien in damages, he'd have to wait for the estimates on that.
He shut the laptop and set it in the passenger side of the car. He didn't even know where he should even start. The interviews with the student hunters found on the scene left more questions than answers.
For one there was the question of, why were they at the docks?
How did they know that the white fang was going to be there?
Why didn't they report it to the authorities?
And where were the two apparent missing ones that had apparently caused most of the damage? Flowers was familiar with Lukas, he'd been a thorn in the side of the department for years. But the other girl that was reported, a red head in a green outfit was nowhere to be seen.
He started walking over to where the kids were and began to address them.
"We've contacted the school. And your teachers are coming to get you. Now before you go i want to know if there is anything you've left out or may have forgotten."
None of them answered but meekly replied "No officer." Flowers sighed "Alright, they'll be here shortly. Don't move." He said walking away.
"Thanks for coming to help Ruby." Blake said, trying not to look at her. Ruby scooted closer and put her arm around her friend. "It's alright, i'm just happy you're safe." Blake finally looked Ruby in the eyes and asked. "How'd you even know where to find me?" She asked. The question had been gnawing at her for a while now and she for some reason wanted to know. Ruby laughed a little before answering.
"Huh, well we were just close enough to hear the shooting." She said
"I suppose that makes sense." Blake said. But Ruby's attention was pulled away when she saw her sister and Weiss making their way over to them. Getting to her feet Ruby moved to intercept them. She had found Blake again and she didn't want an argument with Weiss to drive her off again. But her thought out defense of Blake came out as incoherent ramble.
"Weiss wait she explained the whole thing to me you see she's not actually with the White fang-."
Weiss however didn't acknowledge her and instead stepped past her and stood before Blake. Ruby tried to move to intercede but Yang's hand on her arm stopped her. Looking at her sister in shock Yang smiled and put her finger to her lips.
"Watch." She whispered.
The other two girls stood facing each other. It was a quiet moment before Blake started. "Weiss, I just wanted you to know that I'm not with the White Fang any more. Back when i was-" Weiss raised her hand for silence.
"Do you have any idea how long we've been looking for you?" She asked. Blake didn't say anything Weiss continued. "Twelve hours. I've had twelve hours to think about this. And in that twelve hours I've decided that, I don't care."
Taken aback, Blake wasn't sure she heard what she heard. "You don't care?"
Weiss nodded. "You said it yourself you're not with them right?"
"N-no i haven't been since-" Weiss cut her off with. "I don't want to hear it. Just remember next time when something like THIS comes up." She said gesturing to the destroyed docks. "You come to your teammates first. And not someone else."
Blake had expected several reactions from her team, but this was what she had least considered. It was all so overwhelming to her and she rubbed a tear out of her eye. "Of course."
"Yes, Team RWBY is back together!" Ruby yelled, ruining the tenderness of the moment.
"Well i suppose i better call the boys and tell them we found our lost cat." Yang said, pulling out her scroll and dialing Azrael's number the line picked up. "Hey guys, just letting you know we found Blake. Come meet us at the docks."
Azrael's voice came back to her. "We'll meet you back at the school, we have some business to deal with."
"Wait. I thought our business was finding Blake?" She asked.
"And it was. You've found her, now Luis and I have other matters to attend to." He responded.
Yang conceded the point. "Alright i guess, we'll see at school." She said and hung up.
"What was that all about?" Asked Ruby, Yang shrugged. "No idea."
He could hear his pursuer gaining on him, he could smell his rank coming closer and closer, but worst of all he could see his grin in the dark with his faunus sight. He had chased him down alleys, across streets going every which way imaginable. He had quickly become disoriented and lost but he just kept running for all he was worth. He threw his gaze behind to see just how far he was behind him as he rounded a corner and without seeing slammed into something hard that sent him falling on his back. He looked up and to his horror saw two humans before him, both armed and most likely dangerous. He scrambled back as the one on the right raised his gun aiming for his head.
"Don't move." He said. leveling the over under barreled weapon on him.
"Looks like we got a Fang member by the looks of him." The other boy said drawing a holstered pistol.
"Indeed. Now you are going to stay put and answer some questions we got for you. Do you under-" The first one was cut off as his pursuer had now rounded the corner and came to a stop just a few feet away.
He eyed the other two and smiled."I believe you have my kill."
