July 8

Our time here has been incredibly relaxing. It's going to be so hard to go back to normal life after living in such a paradise.

I'm sitting outside on the beach writing. Inuyasha and I wanted to watch the sunset after dinner. We've actually done this a few times since we've been here. Seeing the sky turn orange and the sunset over the ocean is one of the most beautiful sights I've ever laid eyes on.

A few feet away from us are tiny turtle tracks. I'm so glad we managed to help them get into the water safely this afternoon.

A few hours ago we were building a sandcastle (This one actually turned out quite impressive, I might add. We made sure to build this one far away from the tide). Inuyasha noticed the turtles first when he was going to find some shells to decorate the castle with.

"Hey Kagome, come look at this!"

I ran over to him and there was a nest of baby sea turtles that had just hatched. "Ooh, they're so cute!" I exclaimed.

"They're so tiny," Inuyasha said with fascination.

The turtles started crawling out of their nest. "I think now is the time where they make their way back to the ocean," I said.

Inuyasha looked over at the ocean that was quite a distance away and the birds hovering above flying in circles. "I don't like the look of those birds. Are you sure these little guys are going to make it."

I realized he was right and I became worried. The baby turtles were so cute. It would be devastating if they didn't make it to the ocean. "We have to make sure they get there safely."

So we stayed there, down on our knees, watching the baby turtles make their way slowly across the beach. One of them, we named him Moshi, kept straying from the rest of the group and we had to keep grabbing him and putting him back before he went too far.

"Geez, they're taking forever!" Inuyasha said after a while. We'd been sitting there watching them for a long time and they'd only gotten halfway across the beach.

"Well, they're just little guys. You can't expect them to be very fast."

"I wonder what they do when they get to the ocean."

"I guess they swim around and make new friends and grow up."

Inuyasha looked back up at the birds circling overhead. "I don't know how they make it like this."

"I agree, it's a very treacherous journey. At least this group will all make it there with us watching."

We looked back at the group of turtles making progress across the beach.

"Hey, honey…where's Moshi?"

I counted the turtles and sure enough one was missing. "Oh no! Moshi!"

We looked around and found that Moshi had stayed quite far in the few seconds we had looked away.

"Oh sure, he can move that fast on his own but with everyone else it takes a million years," Inuyasha said.

One of the birds had noticed Moshi had separated as well and nose-dived down to get him.

"Oh no, you don't!" Inuyasha said running over to save him. He gave the bird the old iron reaver soul stealer then grabbed Moshi and returned him to his friends.

"Moshi, you're never going to make it if you keep running off like that," I said.

"I like him," Inuyasha said. "He's got a mind of his own and he's got guts. He's going to be a great turtle once he gets to the ocean."

It took a long time but the turtles finally made it to the ocean.

"Goodbye, little ones!" I said as the waves came in and swept them away. "Do you think they're going to be okay?"

"They're made for this, I think they'll be fine," Inuyasha said confidently. "Plus they've got Moshi to protect them."

And so that's the story of how, instead of spending one afternoon of our honeymoon making love, we sat on our knees and watched baby turtles crawl across the beach.

The sun has finally set and now that moonlight is shining over the water. Inuyasha is giving me "I want you" eyes. I guess it's time to make up for this afternoon's lack of physical fun.
