The relief on Kaoru's face calmed his remaining anger. He glanced at the shaken Megumi expectantly. At the way her eyes widened at the warmth of Kaoru as she fussed over them. She never asked, or judged, just accepted Megumi with the same ease she had done with Sano and him.
Later he wasn't really surprised when the woman sneaked out of the guestroom and, chancing upon him, she let out a bitter chuckle.
"Is she for real?" She asked.
Nodding at her, he buried his hands into his sleeves. "That she is."
"I need to find a fault." The opium maker sighed, her voice lacking malice.
"You will find many, that you will." Kenshin smiled. "But she still shines."
