First, I wish to apologize to any fans of this story that may have seen a Pokemon Fanfiction spring up on here. That was my shabby attempt at taking a break from this when all I needed was some video game time. Games I didn't have until I bought a new game system. Rest assured, I'm still invested in telling this story. So invested, that I'm going to let you all in on a minor secret.
Once chapter 25 wraps up, what comes next will be written movie. A movie I would have very well given this story if it were an animated product. In the end, this story will continue, but plans have changed. This story will end with a season 3(Being roughly Totally Spies Season 4), and I will continue this story from there in subsequent story's after. Hopefully, you'll all stick around and enjoy this surprisingly long chapter.
P.S: IrishKatana has posted a challenge AU called My Diana on his profile. It's a Danny Phantom/Martin Mystery crossover so take a look if you wish to try your hand at something similar to this.
Mountain Chalet: Morning…
The jet may have seemed normal, but upon making it to their destination, it had descended vertically into a large hole in the ground. This hole had opened in the middle of nowhere. Despite this, Danny and the girls had left the jet feeling rather rejuvenated.
The flight had been rather comfy, and none of them had any jet lag. Rather amazing considering the flight had been normal as opposed to the rather quick ones Jerry used to get them to certain mission locations.
"Even though we landed in the ground, things seem to be on the up and up." Clover was carefully scanning her surroundings. "I'm still not convinced this isn't some training mission."
"Keep us posted Clover." Danny stated casually. "Anyways, we're supposed to meet with a fellow agent who will take us to a resort run by WOOHP and the Center."
"Maybe it's the guy who's approaching us." Alex stated.
The group looked ahead and saw a guy that was roughly the same age as Danny's parents had been. He had short, dark hair, blue eyes, and the build of a runner. His attire consisted of beige pants with a dark belt, black long-sleeved shirt, and dark red vest.
"You must be Danny, Alex, Sam, and Clover." The guy stated.
Sam nodded. "That's right."
"It's my pleasure to welcome you four to the Mt. Chalet." The guy nodded. "My name is Reynaldo. Long standing solo agent of WOOHP. Currently, I am your driver, so if you will follow me, I will be glad to drive you over."
On the Road
The four spies had piled into a rather sleek looking snow van which was big enough to fit 10 people comfortably. Reynaldo now drove them up the mountain which was covered in snow, and that included the myriad of trees on either side of the road.
While the girls were dressed for the weather, Danny wore the attire Clover had picked out when they went shopping. To Clover's irritation, Danny had no problems with the cold even in his human form. In fact, he found it rather enjoyable.
When Reynaldo had questioned this, Danny waved it off saying he'd been in colder for longer. He could have worn something as a cover, but he really wanted to feel the cold. Danny had to internally question why the cold wasn't bothering him since that hadn't been the case before.
"Look out the windows guys." Alex stated. "This mountain is beautiful."
Reynaldo spoke back to them. "This mountain's beauty is one of the reasons M.O.M and Jerry spared no expense building a resort here."
"Personally, I'm looking forward to kicking back and relaxing." Danny stated.
"After everything that's happened over these past few months, you deserve a major vacay." Clover stated sincerely.
"Hey Danny, while we're here, the two of us should do something you want." Sam stated. "Do you have any ideas?"
Danny looked out the window. "Hm, I have an idea, but it's going to take a little research." He looked at Sam. "If we're going to do something I want, the two of us should do something you want. I'm up for anything."
Sam always liked how Danny thought of her these days. When she suggested they do something he liked, he would want her to come up with something she liked. While most times she shot down doing something she liked, considering these were things for Danny, this was a vacation.
"Wherever we went, I wanted to take some cool photos with my new digicam." Sam stated. "If you wanted, you could come with."
Danny nodded. "Sounds like a plan to me."
"What a shame." Alex stated. "I was going to ask if you two wanted to go hard core snowboarding."
"There's no reason we can't Alex." Danny shrugged. "After all, this is spring break."
"Eh, good point." Alex admitted. "What about you Clover?"
"Sorry Alex, but I'm on a mission to find the hottest guy at the resort." Clover stated.
Resorts
Reynaldo had dropped the four spies off around the resort area and gave them directions to the agencies' lodge since he figured the group would enjoy a nice walk. Almost as soon as he left, Clover zeroed in a tan snowboarder with long, blond hair.
"I think I just found my hottie." Clover stated before moving towards him.
The guy had stopped near a sign-up booth while being surrounded by people. "Yeah, my jumps are rad. Downhill race is all mine. I'm going to waste the competition."
"You could so beat him Alex." Sam stated.
Alex looked at her. "You think?"
"Being proud in one's skills isn't a bad thing, but I think he's taking it a bit too far with his bragging." Danny shrugged. "Usually, that's a sign of too much confidence which can be a bad thing for an athlete. I think Sam's spot on."
Clover had finally made it over to the guy. "Snowboarding is so much cooler than skiing. You can tell by the outfits. Think you could teach me how?"
The guy nodded. "Alright."
Suddenly, Clover heard the voice of the one person she didn't want to hear. "Todd, want a cup of my hot chocolate mochaccino mint supreme? It's imported."
Todd accepted. "Alright."
"Mandy!" Clover exclaimed. "What are you doing here?"
"The more important question is, what are you doing here?" Mandy questioned. "After all, I got here yesterday, and I had no knowledge you'd be spending your spring break here. If I had, I wouldn't have come."
"Alright, break it up you two." Danny had walked over. "It doesn't matter why any of us are here. You can both rest easy knowing there's no way we're in the same lodge."
"I would hope not freak." Many looked at Todd. "Come on, let's leave this loser and head back to our lodge."
Todd was confused but shrugged figuring this group had some beef. "Uh, alright."
They walked off and Clover was irritated as Sam and Alex joined them.
"Are you alright Clover?" Sam asked.
"I'm fine." Clover stated determined. "This ski bunny doesn't give up without a fight."
Danny's training kicked in as he got the feeling someone threw something at him, so he ducked causing a snowball to sail right over his head.
"Damn it, Fen-turd!" It was another, familiar voice. "You're not supposed to be good at anything."
Danny sighed and turned to find his bully approaching. "You're here to Dash?"
"Don't get the wrong idea." Dash stated. "I had no idea you'd be here." He then noticed the girls and smirked. "Maybe that's not such a bad thing."
"We've already told you to buzz off before Baxter." Clover spoke up. "Don't make us say it again."
"Also, don't think you can fight Danny." Alex stated. "Just like this isn't school for you, it isn't school for us. If you try to hurt him, we will defend him."
"Please, that's just an empty threat." Dash stated as he did not believe these girls could act on it. "That said, thanks for reminding me we aren't on school grounds." He wound up a punch. "Now I'll get pay back on you Fen-tina for how you've embarrassed me."
Danny prepared to dodge like he did that day. He almost did as Dash threw his punch only for Sam to grab the guy's arm and flip him into the snow. Alex and Clover were only a split second behind her in acting.
"Danny's not the only one who has trained Baxter." Sam stood over Dash. "Keep coming after Danny, and one of us will stop you every time."
Dash stood up seething. "Fenton."
"Consider yourself lucky we're not like you Dash." Danny shrugged. "From personal experience with you, you're getting off easy." He looked at the people who were starting to gather. "Now, you can either loose what dignity you have or walk away. It's your choice."
Dash noticed the gathered people, so he stormed off. "This isn't over."
"Still believe this is one of Jerry's test Clover?" Alex asked.
"I'm starting to believe it's not." Clover stated.
"Let's not let them ruin spring break." Danny waved those two off before walking away. "Come on, we'll head to our lodge and settle in."
On the Road
An ice cream truck was making its way up the mountain as an urgent news bulletin came over the radio. "We interrupt all programming to issue a statewide alert. There's been an escape from the state maximum security prison. Be advised. The escapees could be armed and dangerous."
Three male figures hidden in shadow were in the truck and the one in the passenger seat turned the radio off. "Now, what kind of entertainment is that? It's old news." He looked over at the other guys. "I think we can give them some new material put to music, right?"
The second figure just smirked as the truck kept going up the mountain. The third figure, who stood next to them, turned around to look in back. There lied two, unmoving, and human shaped lumps underneath gray tarps. There was most certainly a stench.
C.W Lodge
"You have got to be kidding me?" Danny thought.
The spies had arrived at a lodge which sat on some prime property. To top it off, this place was impressively big. It even had one of the key things Danny was looking for in the thing he wanted to do with Sam.
A bay window in the lobby which faced outward. The only problem to Danny was the lettering on the lodge which read C.W. Oh sure, that stood for The Center and WOOHP, but to the halfa it meant Clockwork.
"Are you okay Danny?" Sam asked concerned.
The girls knew where his reservations lied.
"I'll be fine." Danny stated sincerely. "I won't let some initials ruin spring break."
The spies entered the lodge which was filled with Center agents, obviously humans given where they were, and WHOOP agents. The group were almost immediately greeted by Martin and Java who was pushing a trolly loaded with the spies' luggage.
"There you four are." Martin stated happily. "It's great to see you again."
Danny smiled. "Martin, great to see you as well."
Sam approached Java. "Oh no, you don't have to do that for us."
Java gave her a big smile. "Java help."
"Don't worry about him." Martin smiled. "Java here is a big softy who likes to help."
"Are you sure we can trust him with our luggage?" Clover asked concerned.
"Your concerns are unfounded Clover." Martin waved it off. "Java may be strong, but he knows how to be gentle. Trust me, he'll have your things in your rooms in a jiffy. Speaking of which, we've got a whole floor, at the top, to ourselves."
"Good enough for me." Sam stated. "Let's go see our rooms girls."
Martin moved to stand in her way. "Whoa, I actually got to warn you three before you do that." He rubbed the back of his head. "See, my sister wasn't as enthusiastic about this trip as Java and me, so she locked herself in one of the rooms."
The girls looked at one another confused on how someone couldn't be for a vacation like this.
Danny voiced the question that was on their minds. "Why wouldn't she be for this?"
Martin knew he couldn't spell out the truth considering there were many agents around. "She saw that video of Phantom fighting Plasmius, and while that alone may not have put her in this mood, M.O.M told us what she could about beings stronger than that him."
"It makes sense." Clover stated. "She doesn't know Phantom, so it's not like she knows he will be ready to handle what may come."
"He just needs to train and there's no doubt in my mind he'll be able to beat anything that comes his way." Alex agreed.
Sam was a different story as she was looking at Danny who was in turn looking at the ceiling with a hard to read expression.
"I know, right?" Martin nodded. "I tried telling her when she brought it up to me, but she just wouldn't listen. Ever since then, we haven't been talking. I've tried to do what I normally would, but she's been ignoring me."
Danny put his hands in his pockets. "Having her hidden away won't do." He looked at Sam and Martin. "You two mind if I have a word with her?"
The halfa asked Sam because he had just started dating her. To be alone with a relatively unknown girl could raise questions, and he wanted to be honest with her. He'd asked Martin because that was his stepsister, and he didn't want to step out of line in their dynamic.
"I'm warning you man, Diana's been on edge since our talk." Martin stated. "I advise against it, but you won't hear me stopping you if you're intent on trying."
Sam appreciated Danny asking her, and since she did trust him, she would support him. "Of course." She looked to Martin. "Mind showing the girls and I around the lodge?"
Martin sighed before nodding. "Alright."
Clover and Alex looked at Danny concerned. They didn't think anything would come of this, but the way Martin talked made it sound like his sister wouldn't be the most inviting. They trusted Danny enough and knew what he was capable of to the point that they didn't voice this worry.
After the group left, Danny looked at the stairs and mentally prepared himself. "Thus far, this vacation isn't what I expected, but I'll make do with what I'm dealt."
Inside:Second Floor
Danny climbed to the top floor, but he didn't notice Java anywhere; however, the girl's luggage was in the rooms. He passed many open bedrooms before coming to a closed door which he assumed was Diana's.
He knocked and Diana spoke not a moment later. "Just go away already Martin!"
"I'm not your brother Diana." Danny stated. "I was that guy in a cage during the sisterhood mission, am an agent of WOOHP, and am Phantom. I've heard that you have certain emotions concerning the future, so I wish to talk with you about them."
For a few moments, there was silence before the door opened.
Diana was standing there looking at Danny. "I already knew you were an agent considering the aftermath, but there's no way you're Phantom. A person can't be dead and undead at the same time."
Danny raised an eyebrow. "Even if Diana and Sam share much in common, at least Sam was more open to the paranormal. Would she have been if I approached her as Danny without her having seen Phantom? Guess that doesn't matter."
To answer Diana, Danny transformed into Phantom right before her eyes. Diana was just as shocked now as she was whenever confronted by the paranormal. Danny used this chance to gently lead her back into the room and close the door for their chat.
"I am both Fenton and Phantom. Human and Ghost." Danny stated. "Most of all, I am the one in the best position to speak with you concerning your fears and worry. I am the best person because I have been in your position. In fact, I am in your position now."
Seeing Phantom in the same place as Fenton was hard to take in for Diana. Even though they looked alike, it didn't diminish how hard this was to accept. Phantom was a ghost, but now she knew he was also human like her, Martin, or anyone.
In her confusion, Diana could manage to ask one question. "W-What do you mean?"
"All my life, I feared for the safety of those I cared about. After I gained powers, those feelings never left. One day, I was confronted with my future in the most literal way. Everyone I cared for was gone, my ghost half had been torn out, and my human half was gone.
All that left was a being more powerful than I. I fought him trying to change the future, and even though I beat him, I now understand he was holding back; however, that is of minor importance. The fact is, I managed to capture him, but lost everyone I loved in the process.
My greatest fear had come true leaving me alone and broken. At that time, all I knew was that I couldn't become him. After failing to get those I cared for back, I went to one of the only family I had left. He took me in, and I gained new people to care for.
Family, friends, and someone I like a lot. Once again, I fear losing them only this time I know my future self is out there and something stronger than him waits beyond. I am no stranger to fears and worry; however, I have been living with them more these days."
Diana realized that this stranger was more human than she thought. By sharing his story with her, and framing it around fears and worry, he'd shown that he understood where she was now. This left her with, again, one question.
"You do… No, I am the one who can't understand." Diana stated. "You're Phantom. You're the one M.O.M and Jerry Fenton, your own uncle, are counting on as an ace against these bigger threats. Even though you feel what I'm feeling, you seem to be doing better. How?"
"As I said, after I lost everything, I was broken." Danny stated. "As you can see, I was able to put myself together again thanks to those around me. My strength always comes from those around me, and these days I'm stronger than I've ever been.
Beyond that, I can't give into my fear and worry. What's the point? Look, I'll be the first to admit that even with all the training in the world, we may not be ready for the future, but I'll give it my all. Until the day comes that I must face these threats, I'll live the best life I can."
Danny's words made Diana realize something. "You'll live the best life you can because the only other option is to shut down." She looked away from Phantom feeling ashamed in herself. "Like I've been in the process of doing."
"I've been there and beyond." Danny nodded. "I fear what will come and worry for those I care for; however, I will not let those emotions control me. I will enjoy the life I have while preparing to face what comes for the alternative is no option."
"Why have you told me any of this?" Diana asked.
Don't get her wrong. Diana was grateful for this talk, but she was only a little above a stranger to this boy. They hadn't even talked that day on the mountain other than the necessities of their search for 13's shadow.
"There are reasons I could give which are true in their own rights. I want to see the alliance between WOOHP and the Center flourish. Martin is my friend even through our time together has been brief. The real reason may very well be what my old friends called my hero complex."
"Your Hero Complex?" Diana questioned. "You strive to be the hero, huh?"
"There were times I never wanted my old friends involved in my ghost fighting. I wanted them to stay safe. Ultimately, they paid the price for my failure. Most may look at that situation and double down; however, I took something else from it.
If I had been more open to letting them fight, things might have been different. I know not how though my current situation may be a good indication. With my current friends and family, I find myself being open with who I am, and it seems to have resulted in the best outcomes."
Diana may not have been certain about talking to Danny, but now that she heard him out, she found he was quite the interesting individual. Even though he was half ghost, hearing him out humanified something paranormal in a way she wasn't familiar with.
Sure, there were human traits possessed by other paranormal entities. Even if she could sympathize with them, it was hard to humanize these entities considering they often attacked her. Hearing Danny out made her start to reconsider preconceived notions.
"All that said, I'm not here to force you out of your room." Danny walked to the door while transforming back. "It's your choice how you move forward."
Danny walked out of the room leaving Diana with much to think on.
With Martin and the Girls, Same Time…
Martin gave the girls a tour of the lodge, which was amazing with many rooms on various floors, a spa, and heated, indoor swimming area.
"That about covers the everything." Martin crossed his arms. "I even saw the kitchen before the chiefs threw me out. Place is massive and full of great smells."
"Wow, this place is a total dream. Not to mention there's a total dream boat just waiting for me out there." Clover stated. "I don't know about you girls, but I'm going to head out."
Before they could say anything, Clover was gone.
Alex looked from Sam to Martin before clearing her throat. "Martin, I was wondering if maybe you wanted to… if you have nothing better to do… would you possibly, maybe want to come snowboarding with me?"
"Oh man, you snowboard?" Martin questioned.
Alex nodded with a slight blush.
"Alright!" Martin smiled as he realized just how great Alex was. "Man, you're like the total package. Let's go!"
Alex looked to Sam hopefully. "Don't worry about me Alex." The red head nodded. "You and Martin have fun besides I want to wait for Danny."
"Thanks Sam!" Alex declared happily.
The moment they left; Danny came on down the stairs. "Hey Sam." Sam turned to him. "Did Martin already finish the tour? Also, where is everyone?"
Sam was relieved to see that Danny was in relatively normal spirits. "We finished a minute or two ago. Clover took off to find Todd, I think Java went out, and Martin went with Alex to snowboard. How did things go with Diana?"
"We'll see what happens." Danny shrugged. "Since it is just the two of us, maybe we can head out to find some great places for your pictures?"
"Really?" Sam asked.
"I don't see why not." Danny replied. "It's not like I had anything planned for this vacation. Even if I did, spending time with you would be better."
Ice Hockey Field
Clover came to the field where she saw Todd and his team finishing up a friendly game with another team. "Operation snag Todd. Take two." She skated out to him after the game. "Wow, snowboarding, hokey, and skating. Is there anything you can't do?"
"Yeah." Todd replied. "Lose."
"Well, I'm a pretty great skater myself." Clover stated.
She skated away from him only to end up on her butt. Todd immediately came over to help her, but he abandoned Clover the moment Mandy called out to him feigning trouble with her laces.
"Is this a cruel joke?" Clover questioned before the ice opened below her sending the blond spy into the icy water. "Help me! Somebody! Anybody!"
While Todd was busy with Mandy, Java had been walking by. The caveman also happened to recognize Clover as a friend considering what M.O.M had told him and due to her being part of the group that saved him. Being a caveman, he had some experience with the ice.
Java came right over and plucked her out. "Java help. Help friend."
Clover was surprised that someone had come to her aid. Sure, she could have just swum to the side, but at least someone cared enough to help her. Even though it was the caveman, could she fault him for where he came from?
She first sighed at Todd being enamored with Mandy before looking over at Java with a genuine smile. "Thanks for the save big guy."
Java gently put Clover down far from the hole. "Glad help."
The caveman gave her a thumbs up with a smile as Mandy skated by with Todd. "How nice, you finally found someone in your league Clover." She laughed obnoxiously. "Maybe your new boyfriend can teach you how to skate."
"He's just a friend Mandy!" Clover yelled after her angrily before noticing that Java was starting to shiver. "Come on big guy. I think the two of us could use some hot chocolate."
"Chocolate! Hot!" Java happily declared.
Devil's Peak Cablecar
Danny and Sam stood among many different people heading up the mountain. Thus far, the red head had been strangely quiet leaving the halfa to wonder what was going through her head. Usually, the good thing about being different was how they never ran out of things to talk about.
Sam blushed before clearing her throat. "So, the resort is pretty cool, right Danny?"
"Yeah, the resort seems cool." Danny raised an eyebrow. "Sam, are you feeling alright?"
"Who? Me." Sam giggled nervously. "I'm fine, why?"
"You're acting weird." Danny stated. "Has Clover been getting into your head lately?"
The cable car came to a stop at the top of the mountain and people filed out.
"Not exactly." Sam looked at the ground before taking a deep breath. "While I've dated others, this whole thing is new to me, and I thought I should try flirting like most couple around the school tend to."
The doors closed, but Danny could care less. "There's nothing saying we have to do what most would. Also, I like you the way you are. Don't feel like you're obligated to do anything. After all, you didn't expect anything of me, so why would I expect such things from you now?"
The cable car started back down the mountain.
"Danny." Sam smiled. "I guess I did let Clover influence me, indirectly, a bit."
"Be careful about that moving forward." Danny smiled. "I like Clover perfectly fine, but our little group only needs one of her."
"As much as I value Clover as a friend, I agree." Sam giggled. "One of her is enough."
Danny couldn't help but laugh with Sam. The pair soon stopped as they heard something squealing overhead.
"I'm not the only one hearing that, right?" Sam questioned.
Danny immediately transformed. "Sam, grab onto me now!"
Sam wrapped her arms around Danny who immediately phased them through the cable car, and floated in place, as it fell into the snow below.
"Are you alright?" Danny asked concerned.
"Don't worry, I'm good Danny." Sam assured. "Mind taking us lower to scope out the scene?"
At that moment, the cable car tumbled down the cliff before hitting the ground hard.
"I would have minded before that, but it should be safe now." Danny stated
He lowered them to the ground, and Sam noticed the cable where they landed. She picked it up allowing both spies to notice something about it.
"Whatever this was, it was no accident." Sam stated. "Someone or thing cut this."
"Who do we know that has a vendetta against you girls and I?" Danny asked.
Sam looked at him. "You think Tim Scam is behind this?"
"I don't want to rule it out." Danny transformed back. "That said, we should confer with the others."
Cable Car Station
Danny and Sam came on down the path only to notice an abundance of skiers and snowboarders. Among them, in the back, was Mandy.
"Way to go Sam and Danny." Mandy had noticed them. "Way to destroy the lift for everyone."
"Nice conspiracy theory Mandy." Danny stated flatly. "Two teenagers, from inside the cable car, somehow managed to cut a cable on the outside. That story would give the police a nice laugh. Why not share it with them instead of bugging us?"
"Guess we can add rude to your list of traits, huh freak?" Mandy questioned.
"Let's just leave her be Danny." Sam walked of. "We have more important things to worry about than her."
Danny merely followed.
Slopes
Alex was going downhill and out of control while Martin followed close behind trying to rescue her. Dash was currently climbing the hill since the cable care was broken. Unfortunately, the jock was currently in Alex's path. That said, he wasn't a jock for nothing.
Dash jumped clear to the left before standing. "Watch we're you're going!"
"I'm trying, but I can't control my board!" Alex shouted frantically.
Martin caught up and moved alongside her. "Alex, grab onto me!" She was heading straight for a tree. "Now and hold on tight!"
Alex wrapped her arms around Martin's torso, and he twisted his snowboard sideways to stop them. With the raven-haired spy holding onto him tightly enough, it resulted in her snowboard coming free from her feet and colliding with a tree snapping in half.
Martin sighed in relief before looking at Alex. "You okay?"
"Yeah, I think I'm fine." Alex nodded. "Thanks for the save Martin."
The pair realized Alex hadn't let go, so she immediately did just that while both teens blushed.
"No problem." Martin cleared his throat. "Any time."
"Yeah." Alex giggled nervously. "Uh, I think we should meet with the others."
Martin nodded quickly before the two of them took off.
C.W Resort
After their hot chocolate, Clover had received a call from Sam asking to meet her and Danny. This left the caveman alone, but it didn't particularly bother him. He decided to take another walk outside and find Martin. The moment he stepped outside; he heard music.
Java recognized this music. "Rock. Java… no… like."
A mesmerized expression overcame his features. The music stopped just as Diana came out of the resort for the first time since arriving. She had thought over her conversation with Danny and had to admit he was right. She had to live her life rather than be afraid of it.
Diana noticed Java. "Hey, what's up Java?" Java completely ignored her and ran over to a snow mobile driven by some guy in red pants, green sweater, and red hat. "Did Java make a new friend?" The guy drove off without paying Diana any mind. "I should tell Martin."
Somewhere in the Woods
After almost being run over by some crazy, snowboarding chick, Dash decided to walk through the woods to find a better slope. That may not have been the smartest of decisions considering he was currently lost.
"Man, I don't know how, but somehow this is all Fen-turd's fault." Dash declared. "Now where…"
Someone he didn't see had snuck up behind the jock and knocked him out before dragging him deep into the forest.
Normal Resort
Mandy was outside her resort with Todd. "Todd on a scale from 1 to 10, how kissable do you think I am?" Todd did not know how to answer that. "Well, I think you're a 10. Let's kiss."
"Alright." Todd agreed.
As they closed their eyes and went in for a kiss, someone snuck up behind him and stuck his head into a pile of snow.
The figure then covered Mandy's mouth. "Don't speak." Mandy began to struggle and scream into the guy's hand. "Save the romance for later Clover."
Once they were gone, Todd got out of the snow and frantically looked around. "I can't believe it. I'm totally freaking." He stood up and walked off in a random direction. "I-I got to tell somebody. Anybody."
Cross Country Trail
Danny, Sam, and Clover had thus far met at this trail and were waiting for Martin and Alex to show up. To pass the time, they were talking about what happened to them earlier.
"I mean, how often does ice crack in a perfect circle?" Clover questioned.
"About as often as a cable gets deliberately cut." Sam stated.
Alex and Martin joined them.
"Or a board getting totally shredded." Alex stated. "One minute, I'm heading towards a jump. The next, my board has a mind of its own."
"Alex was almost slammed into a tree at high speeds." Martin added. "I'm not a fan of whoever
or whatever did this."
"Huh, no paranormal explanation?" Danny asked.
"Just because I think a lot of things are paranormal, most things, it doesn't mean I can't be serious dude." Martin nodded. "Especially when someone I care for is put in danger."
Alex blushed at that.
"Well, alright then." Danny nodded. "I'm more convinced Tim Scam has something to do with this, but that's just a hunch. What we need is concrete evidence this is his doing beyond the accidents he had pulled last time."
Suddenly, Danny's wallet phone went off and he answered it to see Jerry. "What's up uncle?"
"Sorry to ruin your vacation spies, but I have received word that two of the girl's former enemies have broken out of jail." Two images of men appeared of screen. "Dr. Gelee and Sebastian Saga."
"You mean that guy we stopped from freezing over the world?" Sam questioned.
"Not to mention that guy who tried to use music to take out the governments?" Clover questioned.
"You mean those Dr, Gelee and Sebastian Saga?" Alex asked.
"The very same." Jerry stated. "Either one could be out for revenge much like Time Scam."
"Jeez, three possible suspects?" Martin questioned before nodding. "Well, count me in. There's no way I'm letting some Scam guy or those two hurt Alex and/or Danny." Clover and Sam cleared their throats causing Martin to sweat drop. "You two either. Yeah."
"Quite." Jerry stated. "Anyways, I will be air dropping in some gadgets, so keep your eyes open."
Once the packs dropped, Jerry ended the call, and the girls collected them. "There you are Martin!"
"Diana?" Martin turned. "Whoa, you actually came out of your room. Huh, I didn't think Danny could perform a miracle."
"Very funny." Diana walked over to the group. "Look, as I stepped out of the resort, I noticed Java. I tried to talk to him, but he ignored me before jumping onto some snowmobile with a guy in a green sweater. I think I also heard rock music before exiting the resort as well."
"Rock music?" Martin questioned. "Java can't stand the stuff. If it was playing, he'd have run the other way."
"Unless the music was hypnotic." Sam stated. "Girls, are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
"It has to be Sebastian's handy work." Alex stated. "What would he want with Java?"
"Who wouldn't want a caveman under their control?" Danny questioned. "I'm guessing it has to be for the muscle factor."
"Java is one of the physically strongest people I know." Martin stated. "Though, that may have come into question after meeting you Danny. Hm, something to think about later. What matters now is that we got to save him and put a stop to these creeps."
Before anyone could say anything more, Todd came stumbling down the trail still in a frazzled state. "Y-you… You're people. A girl… Mandy. She was kidnapped by some half frozen, creepy guy."
"Gelee's here to?" Clover questioned.
"Oh, it must be a supervillain team up!" Martin declared. "Probably how they got out of prison to. It's no paranormal activity, but a good villain team up is great comic material in my book."
"Martin!" Diana had crossed her arms. "In case you forgot, this means they both have Java."
"Oh, right." Martin rubbed his head bashfully. "Yeah."
Hideout: basement
Dash had woken up in a basement and saw something he wished he never had resulting in him huddling in the corner, with tear stained cheeks, farthest away from what lay at the other end of the room. It was the gray tarps those three figures had brought to the mountain.
The smell had been unbearable until he saw what was under them. Seeing what was under there allowed him to understand where Danny must have been mentally. Now, he couldn't just sympathize but empathize with the guy. The only difference was that he had no one to turn to.
"I can't believe there gone." Dash thought. "Who could have done this?"
Outside the Hideout
Sebastian had removed his hat and stared proudly at his latest acquisition. The caveman was wearing headphones connected to a disc player which continued to play a controlling ballad. This easily allowed the form rocker to equip Java with various, ghost hunting technology.
"The girls would have been dealt with easily if not for that ghost boy. So, how do you deal with such a problem? You listen to an insider's intel. With you, and his tech, the girls will meet their end." Sebastian thought happily.
The third figure from the truck stood nearby with his arms crossed. He had a muscular build with tan skin, blond hair, and dark brown eyes. His attire consisted of a pair of blue jeans, yellow short sleeved shirt, and a red vest with torn sleeves.
"The plan is going swimmingly." The guy smirked as he threw on a white cloak and gas mask that hid his face. "All that's left is to get Baxter out of here and get in contact with Reynaldo."
He walked around the cabin while retrieving a canister of knockout gas from a bush.
Inside: Main Room
Dr. Gelee sat across from Mandy playing a round of chess with her.
He stood as he made the finishing move. "Checkmate."
Gelee laughed which got on Mandy's nerve. "Settle down. It wasn't that exciting." She crossed her arms and turned away from him. "This is such a stupid game. No wonder you like it."
"Silence." Gelee slammed his hands on the board getting her attention. "I've waited a long time for this rematch Clover."
"Clover!" Mandy took offense. "That is the nastiest thing anyone has ever called me. "I'm not Clover you polar freak. I am Mandy."
This was news to Gelee. "The red outfit. I thought…"
Mandy stood and smugly crossed her arms. "Well think again and try not to strain your brain."
Gelee recovered. "Well, if you're not Clover, I think there's still a use for you my dear."
Mandy did not like the sound of that.
With the Spies and Investigators
After ditching Todd, Danny, Clover, Alex, Sam, Martin, and Diana had moved onto trying to find the villains. With little idea on where to look, the group was at an impasse. That is, until someone sent a huge ball of snow their way which broke to reveal a tape player.
"Okay, weird." Clover retrieved it.
She played it, and the group heard Mandy's voice. "Sam, Alex, and Clover this is Mandy. These Gelee and Sebastian guys say I'm history if you three losers don't save me. I would cry, but it's so cold that my tears would freeze. Plus, I don't want to run my mascara. Help me please."
"I think it's a set up." Sam stated. "Gelee and Sebastian want us to find Mandy."
"What they want is of importance to us why?" Clover asked.
"Look, I know Mandy's not our favorite person, but she doesn't deserve whatever they have in store for her." Sam stated.
"Not to mention, they do have Java." Martin stated. "Come on, we can't leave him hanging because you don't like this girl."
"Fine, but I'm doing this for the big lug, not Mandy." Clover stated.
Danny shrugged. "Works for me."
"Alright, how do we find them?" Alex questioned.
"We could track Mandy's yapping with our ultrasensitive earing communicators." Clover offered.
"That's a good idea." Sam stated.
Diana nodded. "It's a solid way to track them, and with a 6 to 2 advantage, including Phantom, I think we'd be fine." She looked to the mountain. "Come on, if we want the best reception, we need to get up high."
"What are we waiting for?" Danny transformed. "Let's move people!"
Hideout, Night…
The entire group eventually tracked Mandy to the hideout. Once Danny was invisible, the rest of the group opened the door to find said girl tied up in a chair.
"Sam, Alex, and random people." Mandy's face fell. "Clover."
"Hm, where's Java?" Martin asked.
Suddenly, as if to answer his question, the big guy came busting through a closed door and slammed into Danny. The specter deflector around the caveman's waist shocked the halfa briefly revealing him before the two took their fight outside.
With Mandy in the room, everyone knew better than to use Danny's name, but they were still worried. "Phantom!"
"Phantom?" Mandy questioned. "Who's that?"
Before anyone could answer, the rest of group found themselves frozen to the ground by their feet shocking them.
Martin moved to reach for his watch. "Don't worry because I got…"
Before he could finish, a beam shot out from an open doorway freezing over Martin's watch and making it ineffective for the time being.
"I'm afraid that's not going to work Martin Mystery." Gelee stated as he and Sebastian entered the room.
Sebastian added, "Our third member warned us you may be with the girls like that ghost boy we've heard rumors of in prison, so Gelee prepared a little something to stop you from ruining our plans."
Gelee moved behind the girls. "Speaking of which, we'll be taking these."
He removed the girl's bags.
"All of this just because you two were thrown in jail for doing something wrong?" Diana questioned. "There's no question in my book you were where you belong."
"Say what you will about us, but this has been a long time coming." Sebastian stated. "Since you and your brother choose to associate with these girls, like that ghost boy and caveman, you can perish with them. In that sense, the dead's opinion doesn't matter."
"We'll bid you adieu." Gelee retrieved a detonator from his pocket. "On our way out, I'll press this button to trigger an avalanche. A fitting end, wouldn't you agree Sebastian?"
"I'll take what I can get Gelee." Sebastian stated. "I'm not picky how they meet their end, or with who, as long as it comes."
"Well said." Gelee stated. "Let's leave them to it."
The two villains left the home with Gelee making good on his word and pressing a button.
Mandy freaked out. "This is it! We're all history!" Clover smacked her. "Ow! That hurt."
"Clover!" Sam shouted.
"What?" Clover asked as she took out some lipstick. "It was to calm her down."
"I'll say fair enough, but I don't think now is the time for lipstick!" Diana shouted.
"To any normal person, this is just lipstick." Clover whispered. "Actually, this is WOOHP's laser lipstick which I pocketed before Gelee bolted with the backpacks."
Clover set about freeing everyone.
Outside: Danny vs Java, Same Time…
Java had stopped the moment they were outside, but the momentum the caveman had used sent the ghost boy tumbling along the ground before coming to a stop.
"Uh, someone get the license plate of that truck." Danny stated before Java came over and picked him up which resulted in more shocks from the specter deflector. "Never mind. It decided to pick me up."
Java threw Danny into a nearby tree, and it was at this point that the halfa was done taking a beating. As Java charged at him again, the halfa phased threw the tree and floated into the air. At this point, he noticed a wire going from the caveman's ears to his pocket.
This gave Danny an idea. "Alright big guy, those villains clearly decked you out." Java turned and lept into the air forcing Danny to dodge to the right. "Even then, they've left an obvious weakness. I'll have you free in no time,"
It wasn't like Danny wasn't used to some level of pain given the fights he's been in. Some dollar store specter deflector should be no problem now that he knew what to expect. Danny landed on the ground and Java turned on him. That's when the avalanche started causing Danny to freeze.
"No." Danny looked passed Java and stared at the cabin in horror. "No. Not again. Not again." He thought he moved passed this, but that cabin, the avalanche, and all his friends inside were easily replaced with the Nasty Burger, the explosion, and his old friends and family. "No!"
Java had not remained idle as he ran over to Danny, picked him up by his leg, and began smashing the halfa into the ground repeatedly. Even though the halfa registered the pain, his mind was fixated on the approaching snow.
A marble sized, green ball appeared from a small portal, exactly like one of the ones made by Clockwork, and floated near him. "If you want to save them, you must let go."
The ball dissipated; however, the halfa only registered two words from that ball. Save them. Those words resonated with Danny causing him to, clear as day, see those he lost and those he had. There was still time to rescue them, and he would rescue them.
The halfa's eyes started to flicker from their glowing green to a crimson red. "I will not lose them!"
Green and red ectoplasm shot off of Danny overwhelming the specter deflector. It pushed passed it and into Java sending the caveman skidding along the ground. Danny got to his feet and blitzed forward as his eyes continued to flicker between the two colors.
"I don't have time for this." Danny declared wrathfully.
He shot his hand forward and nabbed the disc player from Java's pocket before crushing it. Without the music, the caveman would have collapsed unconscious, but in Danny's currently state, he didn't see this. The halfa jumped and decked Java in the face.
The punch was hard enough to knock the caveman out. Just as the halfa was about to rush into the cabin, everyone came rushing out. This brought Danny back to his senses. Since he couldn't apologize, at this time, he resolved to keep Java save.
With Gelee and Sebastian
The pair thought they'd gotten away only to come upon a WOOHP blockade consisting of many cars and agents headed by Jerry, Reynaldo, and Mario. Their blond haired, brown eyed accomplice. The pair immediately realized they'd been betrayed.
"Back up Gelee!" Sebastian shouted.
Mario smirked and retrieved a little remote from his vest before pressing a button on it. An isolated EMP he'd put on the vehicle not only shut down the snowmobile, but any gadgets, such as the ones they'd taken from the girls, down.
"Not happening villains." Mario stated as everything was coming together, and more cars pulled in behind them. "You're done."
"Wait, you can't do this." Sebastian stated. "W-We were set up by that guy right there." He pointed at Mario with his metal arm. "He broke us out."
"I don't know what you are trying to pull, but Mario is a trusted agent." Reynaldo stated.
"He's telling the truth." Gelee stated. "He broke us out and had us kill for him."
"Mario here has been in contact with us throughout this whole ordeal gentlemen." Jerry stated as agents moved into arrest them. "He's told us that he found you out here and played along to find out about your plans. Now that we know them, you are under arrest."
The agents began to move them. While they were going to jail regardless, neither of them liked to be betrayed to further someone else's goals. They were going to insist they were telling the truth to bring Mario down for what he's done.
"No, you must listen to us." Gelee stated. "He broke us out."
"He had us kill random people." Sebastian added. "We didn't even know them."
Mario stepped up to them, making the agents taking them away stop, so he could deck the two in the face. "Scum like you make me sick. You killed a young man's family and have the audacity to go after some of WOOHP's best for your own mistakes." He nodded. "Take them away."
Sebastian and Gelee continued to insist even as they were loaded into the backs of different cars.
"That was uncalled for Mario." Jerry walked up to the guy and put a hand on his shoulder. "We've talked about not going that far before."
Mario feigned a sigh. "Sorry Jerry, but men like that make me sick." He shook his head. "It's because of them, that Dash Baxter is left alone in the world and in need of help." He looked to his boss. "What's going to happen to the boy?"
"He'll most likely be put into foster car until he's 18 since not many would want someone so old." Jerry stated.
"If that's the case, allow me to adopt him." Mario stated firmly. "I'm better suited to help him through this than some foster care ever could."
"Are you certain?" Jerry asked.
"You know me Jerry." Mario nodded "I wouldn't offer if I weren't."
"You do have a point, but even with my status, you will receive regular check ins to ensure things are going smoothly. We'll work out the details later." Jerry stated. "For now, let's give him some time to absorb what's happened."
"Yes, time is what he needs." Mario nodded. "Rest assured, I won't reveal anything while raising him to be a respectable man. You have my word that I will help him in any way I can."
"Very well." Jerry moved to get into one of the cars. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go meet the spies to tell them that the situation is handled."
Jerry would save the more gruesome details for another time. While Jerry left in one of the cars, Mario walked over to a one himself and drove away. Once he was away from prying eyes, the man made a call.
"Did everything pan out." Tim's voice came through on the other end.
"Everything turned out exactly as you planned." Mario stated. "Jerry doesn't seem to suspect a thing."
"Keep a constant watch just in case." Tim stated. "Continue to serve me, and your fighting prowess can be used to make money without interference."
Time hung up.
With the Spies, Investigators, and Mandy
Danny currently sat on a branch with the unconscious Java and was looking at himself in shock. Just mere moments ago he felt more powerful than ever before. Honestly, he wasn't sure how to feel about it even if he could remember the feeling he had beforehand. It was wrath.
As for the girls, Mandy, Martin, and Diana, they were handing from tress. Well, Mandy was currently hanging off Clover having jumped onto her back in hopes that the girl could save her. Fortunately, that proved to be the case.
This did not stop Mandy from revaluating things. "This is all my fault. I'm being punished for being so horrible. If I get out of this, I'll never call you three or Danny another name."
"Thanks." Sam stated uncertainty. "I think."
"Or make fun of your clothes." Mandy continued.
"What's wrong with our clothes?" Alex asked.
"I personally think you all look good." Martin chimed in.
"Martin!" Diana yelled. "Now is not the time."
"Or steal your boyfriends." Mandy finished.
That got Clover's attention. "Now, you're speaking my language. It's a deal."
The small group dropped on down with Mandy falling into the snow.
"Alright, Alex you'll take care of Mandy while the rest of us go after Gelee and Sabastian." Sam stated. "I'm fairly certain Danny's got Java, so we'll leave him to it."
At this point, Danny was confident the larger group could handle themselves. Plus, he was the one who knocked Java out, so h might as well follow Alex and Mandy. Of course, making himself and Java invisible.
Once Alex, Mandy, Danny, and Java took off, a WHOOHP vehicle pulled up and Jerry stepped out. "While I appreciate your willingness to continue the chase. another agent took them down from the inside."
"What!?" The remaining four exclaimed.
Jerry nodded. "It appears an agent caught wind of those two and played a game several steps ahead of Gelee and Sebastian. As such, this mission has come to a close, and you are all free to return to your vacation."
"Huh, that sure is lucky." Diana stated.
Sam agreed. "Real lucky."
"Of course, you've all done a splendid job." Jerry nodded. "I am glad to see your teams are working well with each other." He got back in the car. "Hopefully, you can use the rest of your spring break to continue bonding."
Jerry drove away.
"Talk about anticlimactic." Clover stated.
Martin was all smiles as he put his hands behind his head. "I say it's a welcome change of pace. Why question it when we can meet up with everyone?"
Diana shook her head. "Same old Martin."
C.W Lodge, Late at Night…
While Jerry relayed this news, and the group took off to meet their teammates, Alex and Mandy ended up in that snowboarding competition against Todd. Not only did they become a last-minute addition, but they beat the guy taking 1st place.
Afterwards, Mandy left the group to go back to her lodge while the others returned to their lodge where they found Danny, now back to normal, standing next to an awake Java proving that everything had ended well.
Now, the group were free to enjoy what time they had left. In that regard, there was only one thing Danny wanted to do. Perhaps even more so than he had originally after his mind came up with what it did. Fortunately, that night was the perfect night.
In secret, he got Sam to come with him to the lobby even if she had insisted on them both wearing their everyday clothes. In made no different to Danny nor his plan. All he needed was Sam, a big, fluffy blanket, and the bay window on the perfect night.
This was that night. Sam hadn't said a word, but her mind did wonder what Danny was intent on doing with her. She knew better than to let her mind wonder to the gutter as most would say. That still left plenty of possibilities.
Eventually, Danny climbed into the bay window and sat down while patting the area beside him. "This is all I've wanted to do since we've arrived."
Sam joined him in the window and stared out at the world which was illuminated by the various lights dotting the resort. This gave the two of them a view of a gentle snow falling over the area. Sam got it. What Danny had wanted was nothing physical or material between them.
What he wanted was a moment. A memory they could look back on fondly. This was something the red head was happy to provide as it was a nice sentiment. Sam laid her head on Danny's shoulder, and they sat there watching the snow fall in a comfortable silence.
One of the few that had been between them since they never have failed to find some topic to talk about. Now, they had this moment in which the two were happy to be with each other. After what Danny saw, he found this was just what he needed.
Morning…
At some point, Danny and Sam had fallen asleep leaning on one another. Now, they were awoken by two flashes of light behind them. When the pair realized what had happened, they separated with crimson blushes evident on their faces. That's when two more flashes came about.
"Aw, this is just precious." Alex stated. "I'm going to save these and use them as screen savers."
"Sorry Danny, but Alex convinced me to take a couple of pictures for your uncle." Martin just shrugged. "Plus, I'm an agent of chaos when it sounds fun." He chuckled. "Admittedly, this is fun."
"Alex/Martin!" Sam/Danny yelled embarrassed.
This started a chase throughout the lodge as Clover, Java, and Diana watched on. In Clover and Java's case, it was bemusement, but with Diana it was something else. Something she couldn't identify save that she didn't like Danny and Sam being the ones to chase her brother and Alex.
Resort Area, Spring Break's End…
All good things must come to an end, and this trip was good even though they had to deal with Gelee and Sebastian. Currently, the spies were waiting for Reynaldo to pick them up and drive them back to the jet.
Todd approached Clover. "Hey, I didn't notice before, but you're pretty easy on the eyes. Mind if we exchange numbers?"
Clover was so over him. "Sorry Todd, but I'm not interested in recycled goods."
Todd walked away dejected, and Mandy saw the whole thing. "Ah, you devious, horrible person."
"What are you talking about?" Clover asked.
"Now it's clear." Mandy stated firmly. "You had me kidnapped, so you could have Todd all to yourself. I see right through your little game of playing hard to get."
"If that is what you believe, leave us now." Danny stepped in front of Clover. "We do not have time for the ramblings of the deluded."
"Gladly freak." Mandy stated before storming off.
"I guess she hasn't changed." Sam stated.
Alex shrugged. "Eh, at least we still have each other."
At that moment, Reynaldo pulled up and they piled in deciding to wave off what just happened. After all, they were heading back to California. No matter how much fun they had, that was home, and it was nice to be returning.
Mario & Dash: Mario was a villain used later, season 5, in Totally Spies. I figured I'd bring him in earlier as one of or only one of Tim's inside men. I also figured that I might as well do something more with Dash than the stock bully. Unfortunately for him, his current level of intelligence, combined with his physical prowess, makes him an effective pawn.
Sebastian: When I conceived this chapter, he wasn't originally apart of this. Then, I got to thinking. The guy has the perfect tool to control people. Look, I like Java as a character, but he's honestly the prefect person for Sebastian to go after especially when you have a ghost boy against you. Java's strong, not the brightest, and given the right gear, he could effectively hold back Danny at the very least. Since I took out the guy's earlier comeback episode, I put him in here.
Jebest4781: Thank you
Yakuza2010 (Guest): You're not wrong about the science divisions being important to the field agents success. Honestly, we didn't need much on them in the canons of Totally Spies and Martin Mystery, but more than some scientist who turned evil would have been nice. As for Fun House, he has his goals in mind, but not many people really know the big picture in story save a few.
Runeion: You made a very good point, and I've changed it. Thank you.
Matt: The ghost has to do with later developments beyond this story.
Matt: I'll be quite honest. I tried looking into this, but I'm not sure I found what you were referencing.
charizardatemymathteacher: Why thank you for the compliments on the story. They just seemed like logical next steps that should be taken.
charizardatemymathteacher: Again, I thank you for the compliments. The date and build up between them was something I worked hard on. Thankfully, you did supply a decent base to jump off of.
